Good Morning and Happy Monday. Today I will be talking about a costume/designer who is not really known to a wider audience but was a hidden talent. I introduce to you Ms. Ola Hudson (October 12, 1946 – June 5, 2009). Ms. Ola Hudson was a young vibrant energy and born with many talents, she studied dance with the Lester Horton School of Modern Dance and with Bella Lewitzsky and Linda Gold in Los Angeles. She would continue honing her skills  at the Institute of Dance in Paris, Switzerland’s Le Loft, and The Max Rivers School in London and where she would meet her husband Anthony Hudson an album cover artist. They would give birth two sons; Saul aka guitarist Slash of the rock group Guns n Roses and Albion.  Their marriage wasn’t a success, Ola reinvented herself and she became a costumier to the stars. During the 1970’s when album covers and musicians were fashionable and artistic. Ola Hudson had her hand in designing and styling for icons John Lennon, David Bowie, The Pointer Sisters, Ringo Starr and Diana Ross. She worked with Bowie and designed the costumes for his Isolar Tour and his film ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’. She would also open up her own on boutique on Sunset Strip called ‘Skitzo’.  Hudson would continue her career designing for major retailers such as Henri Bendels, Fred Segal, Neiman Marcus and Maxfield Blu. Ms. Ola Hudson is a woman that did not remain in one lane, she did what her heart desired and manifested her dream in all artforms. #blackhistorymonthfacts #blackhistorymonthfactoftheday #blackwoman #blackshero #blackexcellence #blackcostumier #blackdesigners #blackownbusiness #olahudson #slash #davidbowie #dianaross #pointersisters #ringostarr https://www.instagram.com/p/BtvqpzaHElc/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=y1q2an7g8j7x

#Jean-MichelBasquiat was an American painter of #Hatian and #PuertoRican descent. He could be considered a genius in many respects. Basquiat's mother encouraged a love of arts in him and he attended an exclusive private arts school from the age of seven. Basquiat's artwork has continued to gain in value over the years and his painting "Untitled" is considered to be one of the most expensive painting ever purchased at $100 million. Recently his work "We Are All Warriors" is expected the most expensive Western artwork auctioned in Asia. Basquiat's artwork drew expensively from his cultural roots, including Spanish words and African history. These references were often not understood by art critics during his time, and unfortunately they were not explored as deeply as they should have been as a result. Basquiat dated Madonna and was thought to have had a relationship with Warhol. Jennifer Clement described Basquiat's approach to attraction as "as: "... not monochromatic. It did not rely on visual stimulation, such as a pretty girl. It was a very rich multichromatic sexuality. He was attracted to people for all different reasons. They could be boys, girls, thin, fat, pretty, ugly. It was, I think, driven by intelligence. He was attracted to intelligence more than anything and to pain." "The black person is the protagonist in most of my paintings. I realized that I didn't see many paintings with black people in them." "For a while, I was drawing on good paper, but now I've gone back to the bad stuff. I put matte medium on it. If you put matte medium on it, it seals up, so it doesn't really matter." (That second quote is a good reminder that supplies are not the most important thing!) . . . . . #blackhistorymonthfacts #blackhistorymonthiseverymonth #happyblackhistorymonth #blackhistorymonth #blackculture #melanated #melanin #blackhistoryfact #blackmovement #blackawareness #blackhistory #harlemrenaissance #embracingblackculture #blackandqueer #queerandblack #blackqueermagic #blackvoices #bhm #blackartistconnected #blackartistmovement #blackartistry101 #blackartistsmovement #afroamerican #afrocentricart #blackartspace #africanamericanart #black https://www.instagram.com/p/CLaCvrbDVoa/?igshid=22taar6l37k9

Here’s a list of 15 of them that, until now, you probably didn’t know about.  Frederick McKinley Jones  If your refrigerator has any produce from your local grocery store, then you can credit African-American inventor Frederick McKinley Jones .Jones took out more than 60 patents throughout his life, including a patent for the roof-mounted cooling system that’s used to refrigerate goods on trucks during extended transportation in the mid-1930s. He received a patent for his invention in 1940, and co-founded the U.S. Thermo Control Company, later known as Thermo King. The company was critical during World War II, helping to preserve blood, food and supplies during the war. Dr. Shirley Jackson. Dr. Shirley Jackson is an American physicist who received her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1973. They stole scientists, doctors, architects, teachers, entrepreneurs, astronomers, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, etc., and made them slaves. Sincerely, your ancestors".
