There’s The Last Shadow Puppets, of course. When did you two decide then, that actually this friendship, kinda playing around, you wanted to make it kinda more serious?

It was so sort of innocent really, it was like we’d sort of just written all these songs and we made all these acoustic demos, just me and hi- like we’d write them in his mum’s conservatory, in my mum’s house in the Wirral, d’ya know what I mean, M&S shredded veg, microwave meals for dinner, heebie jeebies getting off our nuts, it was all this combination of these things. And we wrote a collection of these tunes and then we made these demos and then we sent them to like, Domino this label and we had the same managers, as we still do and we were like ‘we wanna make an album’ and they were like ‘oh ya know whatever, yeah, go and do it’. This is at the height of their blowing up big time and they were like I think they sort of entertained it for a bit so I’ll let them go and do that. But we made the album in two weeks and I think it was so strong and we tapped into that thing of ya know, I love Scott Walker, which like our James put me onto, I passed to Al, and we had this vision of being like these grand, quite dramatic songs, again it’s touching into that sort of Italian footballer thing but like as a young rock and roll band and that was our sort of blueprint and when we did it and we did it in two weeks and I think we played it to the label and they were like ‘oh this is actually fucking amazing and you’ve got to put this out’ and that was it.

it's occurred to me that i have to get some kind of outfit to wear to my sister's function that doesn't consist of barn clothes. should i get a dress which i will most likely only wear this one time because i hate wearing dresses but it will take up less space in my backpack (have to stuff a weeks worth of clothes in there) or commit to a men's business casual sort of thing which i would look and feel better in but which would take more space and probably more money? this is for october in michigan
