Did Rin Itoshi get held back two years?

I was playing through the game (ProjectWorldChampion) and Rin mentions he is in 8th grade. The average 8th grader in most places is around 14 but Rin is currently 16. The Blue Lock program started on November 20 and Blue Lock most likely has been going for less than a year, and his 16th birthday (September 9) was before he started at Blue Lock.

I have a few theories on why he was held back (assuming the game info, minus the player insert, is canon). Rin could have just missed a LOT of school two years to be held back, Rin got pretty bad grades to be held back (even though he's fluent in English), or he just started school late. Let's be real, Rin probably only knows English because of his passion for soccer/football that he thought he would end up pro and decided to learn the language early.

Blue Lock Project: World Champion Global Release

I can't wait for the english version of it honestly. I have the JP version since I wanted to play and I'm obsessed with Blue Lock right now but if what I'm seeing is right then it'll be out sometime this week coming in.

You may or may not see me posting a lot about it, but this will definitely make me get ideas to write about (hopefully). Plus with the Project Nagi movie releasing like two days ago (at the time that I'm writing this post) and the fact that the global release of it will be later on this year (June 28th if I'm not wrong), I'm like so hyped and going to be brainrotting over this. Whether you guys see that brainrot or not, depends on if I have tumblr open when I'm going through these moments lol.

I'm really not up to date on anything ever 🤣 so I only found out that a Blue Lock gacha game exists on Nagi's birthday, promptly downloaded it and was greeted with this:

For now there aren't that many characters, in the future I'm hoping to see more versions of Nagi, Reo and Zantetsu since they're my faves <3 rn we have those three, the entirety of team Z, Niko, Okawa, Barou, Wanima twins, Kira and Rin. Like 30+ versions. Later on it'll likely look more like Bleach Brave Souls with its 1700+ characters 😁
