Healthy easy to make Ragi Cauliflower rotis. Goes well with onion tomato chutney or hung curd. Our experience: S stopped enjoying ragi porridge and refused preloaded spoons around 7.5 months. We then started using the ragi malt in veggie rotis since he enjoyed eating it in this form. Keep in mind that the rotis have to be made slightly thick to make it easy to pick up. Serve them with a dip smeared on top so they are soft and not dry. We used to cut them in strips and offer on his highchair tray. Ingredients Cauliflower Sprouted Ragi flour Jeera powder Pepper powder (9M+) Preparation 1. Rinse cauliflower florets well and immerse them in boiling hot water (with a pinch of turmeric optional) for about 5 minutes. Grate it finely once done. 2. Mix grated cauliflower, ragi malt, a pinch of jeera powder and a pinch of pepper with just enough water added to bind well. 3. Flatten it out using your hand into a slightly thick paratha. 4. Heat the tawa, add homemade ghee/ homemade butter and cook the paratha well flipping on both sides. Note: 1. If making for toddlers you can add some salt as needed to the dough 2. you can also add some grated garlic and chopped coriander leaves to the dough for added flavour. Pasta is both fun and healthy for kids! In this recipe we used a combination of broccoli and coconut milk for the sauce and it tasted sooo good! For the pasta itself we used the red lentil pasta from @pinkharvestfarms (highly recommend). It's a single ingredient pasta which means if you see the list of ingredients there would be only one ingredient listed, nothing else. No better way to check which products are actually healthy in our opinion. Also, we've got a few questions on how babies can enjoy pasta without teeth. Babies gums are extremely strong and if the pasta is cooked soft, they can easily chew through it. From our experience S loves picking up the pasta pieces one by one and we usually overload it with the sauce since S loves the taste. Note: Don't overcook the pasta though, because then it'll easily break in their hold making it extremely frustrating for them to pick and eat. Ingredients: Pasta of your choice Steamed broccoli florets Coconut milk Powdered pepper/ whole peppercorns Homemade butter/unsalted butter Preparation 1. Add the steamed broccoli, coconut milk and a pinch of pepper to a blender. Blend until smooth. Adjust coconut milk amounts to the consistency you desire. 2. Add pasta to a pan of water and boil until soft. 3. Heat a little butter on a pan. Add the blended broccoli sauce and let it heat until you see it thicken. 4. Add the cooked pasta and mix well. Remove from heat and serve once cool. That's it! You're done :) Check out babyledweaningindianrecipes.com for fun and healthy baby recipes ❤️ #blw #babyledweaning #broccoli #broccoliforbaby #coconut #coconutmilk #pepper #babyfoodrecipes #weaning #blwindianideas #blwfoodideas #babyapproved #whatmybabyeats #whatifeedmybaby #solidstarts #babyledeating #pastaforbaby #pasta #blwinspiration #blwindia #babyledweaningrecipes #babyledweaningindianrecipes #weaningfood #weaningrecipes #vegetarianbabyfood #veganbabyfood #vegetarianbabyledweaning (at Bangalore, India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTtZefwBK1y/?utm_medium=tumblr

Do you take milestone pictures of your baby every month too? 🥰 We took this pic of S with the kitchen theme when he turned 7 months. He had so much fun throwing the flour around unrestricted. Being a BLW baby S automatically started taking the flour to his mouth initially🤣 Do share your milestone picture ideas! We would love to recreate them over the coming months ❤️ #blw #babyledweaning #baby #babiesofinstagram #milestonepictures #7months #solidstartsbaby #blwindia #blwindianbaby #whatmybabyeats #babyfun #babyledweaningindianstyle #blwindianideas #blwsouthindian #blw7months (at Bangalore, India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSZq3WNhxh3/?utm_medium=tumblr

First foods are always special :) we put a lot of thought into them and want to introduce the best foods to our babies. On the very first day of weaning we offered preloaded spoons of ragi porridge and steamed carrot sticks to S. Very messy and not too much was eaten but S immediately took both the spoons and the carrots to his mouth and attempted eating them which we felt was a very good start! Our daughter also introduced the concept to him earlier by doing activities like giving him raw carrots (peeled and washed in drinking water) as teethers and we did our best to keep meal time a zero pressure space for S so he would explore at his pace. Today, he's an adventurous eater and he's slowly developing a good pincer grasp. He tries to pick up smaller pieces of food that breaks off and attempts to fully finish the pieces offered to him. He also looks forward to his meal times and starts getting annoyed if we put him in his highchair but delay getting his food by a couple of minutes 😂 The post has the very first foods we offered S :) All were offered in a blw friendly way. Initially we held out the pieces for him to grab and eat and by the end of the week he was picking them off the highchair tray on his own. Do try to include iron rich foods as part of the meals. It's said that iron reserves reduce by 6 months and that's why it's important to start weaning at this stage. Iron is essential for growth and brain development and deficiency in iron may also cause lower appetite. Pairing iron rich foods with foods high in vitamin C help in better absorption of iron. What foods did you offer your baby on their first day of solids? Sweet Potato can be started as one of the first solid foods your baby when he turns six months old. Sweet potatoes are a rich source of fibre as well as high in beta-carotene, vitamin A, vitamin B6 and vitamin C and minerals including iron, calcium, selenium, thiamine, niacin, potassium and copper. They are also a good source of protein, calcium, vitamin E. To prepare, wash the Sweet Potato well and boil the Sweet potato in Steamer or Pressure Cooker without salt. I’ve found sweet potatoes take longer to cook to a soft consistency so you can keep it for more whistles if pressure cooking. If steaming using a steamer, please check if it’s cooked all the way through before offering it to your baby. Another alternate way is to roast it and offer. This tastes really good as well! If you're worried about the texture or if you've just started on blw, you could also pre-load spoons of mashed sweet potato and offer them to your baby. Paneer or Cottage Cheese contains protein and good fat in good quantities and is also loaded with calcium that helps in building healthy teeth. We recommend making the paneer at home and take care to not add salt when preparing for babies below 1 year of age. Our experience: we introduced this to S when he was 7.5 months old. He absolutely loved it! It broke into two pieces in his hands and he held one piece in each hand and alternatively ate it 😂 we offered the two pieces shown in the image and he ate one and half pieces in total. Ingredients 100 grams Homemade paneer 1 Tomato 1 Onion 2 Garlic Cloves 1 pinch Coriander powder 1 pinch Jeera powder 1 pinch Turmeric 1 Tsp Cold pressed oil of your choice Preparation 1. Heat the oil in a kadai and add finely chopped onion and tomato. Sauté till tomatoes are cooked well. 2. Add the turmeric, jeera powder and coriander powder and mix well. Remove from heat. Allow it to cool. 3. Cut Paneer into 2 inch sticks 4. Spread the Tomato gravy over paneer sticks and serve. Do let us know if your baby enjoys paneer as well ❤️ You can find more healthy recipes at babyledweaningindianrecipes.com :) #blw #babyledweaning #paneer #babyfood #babyapproved #babyrecipes #indianbabyfoodrecipes #weaningbaby #weaningideas #weaning #blwindianideas #blwindianbaby #blwindia #babyledweaningindianrecipes #whatifeedmybaby #whatmybabyeats #solidstarts #blwinspiration #indianweaning #blwsimpleandeasy #babyledweaningindia #babyledweaningindianstyle #babyledsolids #northindianfood #paneerlove #blwindianrecipes https://www.instagram.com/p/CR4gb_PN_fS/?utm_medium=tumblr

Pesarattu is a Dosa prepared with protein rich green moong dal. Serving suggestion: you can cut into long strips and place on the high chair tray or plate for the baby to pick up. We usually smear some chutney on top before offering. Our experience: we first introduced this to S when he was 6.5 months. Since we made it slightly thick, it was easy for him to hold and eat. He enjoyed it and was able to chew off the pieces, but honestly we felt he enjoyed the chutney a lot more 😂 Ingredients 1 cup Green Moong Dal 1 tablespoon Raw Rice 1 teaspoon Jeera 2 tablespoons Fresh Coriander Leaves Preparation 1. Rinse whole green moong dal and soak in water for 8 hours. Wash and soak 1 tbsp rice separately. 2. Rinse the soaked green moong and rice well. Put the soaked green moong dal, soaked rice, coriander leaves and jeera in a blender/mixie and grind finely by adding a little water. 3. This batter need not be fermented. You can use it immediately. If not using immediately, store in fridge. 4. Heat the tawa. Rub few drops of oil. Spread the batter thickly if making for baby. Add few drops of oil around the dose. Alternatively you can use homemade butter/ ghee. Once done flip it over and cook well. Let us know if you try it out. It's almost the end of mango season, but we had to make a mention of the king of fruits! Mangos have a unique flavour and taste that babies love chewing on. It is one of the highest food sources of vitamin C and also has good amounts of vitamins A and K. Serving suggestion(6-9M): peel the mango and cut them into long slices that can be grasped by your baby. Keep in mind that mangos are extremely slippery, so if your baby has trouble holding on to it, you can also roll it in finely grated coconut or nut powders for better grip. Once your baby develops a good pincer grasp, you may also dice it into smaller pieces that your baby can pick up and eat (optional). Keep in mind that nuts are known allergens, so better to introduce one at a time and in the mornings to better monitor. S loved Alphonso and Banganapalli. Which varieties did your baby enjoy? ♥️ #blw #weaning #mangoes #babyledweaning #blw #mango #blwideas #babyledweaningideas #solidstarts #whatifeedmybaby #babyapproved #whatmybabyeats #fruitsforbaby #babyledweaningrecipes #babyledweaningindianstyle #babyledweaningindia #blwsouthindian #blwindianideas #blwfingerfood #weaningideas #foodforbabies #blwindianstyle https://www.instagram.com/p/CRhAnC3twLp/?utm_medium=tumblr

Nendram banana / Plantain banana powder for making porridge.
When you buy plantain banana ask specifically for nendram variety which is very popular in Kerala. Buy raw plantain which is green in colour. Our recipe for Nendram porridge is available in a separate post.
Preparation below:
1. Wash the bananas well and remove the outer skin.
2. Take a slicer and make thin slices. If the slices are thick, they take longer to dry.
3. Spread the slices on a tray and keep it outside in hot sun to dry for a couple of days.
4. Once fully dry, transfer to a mixie jar and make a fine powder. If it is not fully dry, it will form lumps while grinding. In that case, dry it further and grind again.
5. Once finely ground, transfer to an airtight container and you can store it in your freezer and use as needed.
You can store this for a long time and use as needed for making porridge. You can also alternatively add it with veggies to make veggie patties.
Check out the link in bio for more recipes :)

Raw banana (Nendram) porridge is full of carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins and helps in easy digestion, weight-gaining & immunity building for babies.
This is extremely easy to make. To make it BLW friendly, you can make this thick in a halwa consistency and preload on spoons to offer your baby.
Recipe below: 1. Mix the Nendram powder in water thoroughly to avoid any lumps forming. 2. Place it on the stove on a low flame and slowly bring to boil while continuously stirring. You’ll notice a change in colour and texture. If required add some water little by little if you feel it’s getting very thick very fast. 3. When done, you’ll notice a shine in the colour and a thick texture with a nice aroma. Once it gets to the consistency you like, add few drops of ghee to it and switch off the flame.
It’s very easy to make the Nendram/ raw banana powder at home too. You can make one batch and store it in the freezer and use as needed.

We got a lot of interest in the coconut milk recipe after our Aappam post, so thought of sharing it with everyone here ♥️
Coconut milk is a tasty healthy ingredient to use in recipes for babies. You can also use it as a dip on the side for Aappam and idiyappam.
Please keep in mind that while it can be used as an ingredient or a dip on the side, it cannot replace breastmilk or formula feed as the primary source of nutrition, specially for babies under one year.
Ingredients - freshly grated coconut and nothing else!
Preparation: 1. Put the freshly grated coconut in a mixie jar and grind well by adding little water. 2. Remove the milk from the ground paste by squeezing. 3. Again add little water and grind. 4. Repeat the process 2-3 times. 5. Heat the coconut milk on the stove on a low flame for about 30 seconds.
Your coconut milk is ready!
For Adults and babies over 1 year, you can add sugar or jaggery powder with a pinch of cardamom powder to the freshly prepared coconut milk.
Do let us know if you try this recipe and your baby enjoyed it ❤️

Which kid doesn't love pasta? We wanted to introduce this to our grandson but I also wanted to make it very healthy. We found they sell single ingredient pastas made completely of red lentils/ chickpeas/peas etc. We bought these to try and they tasted really good! After that we started coming up with simple, easy to make pasta recipes for S to enjoy. Our experience: We first introduced it to S when he was a little over 6 months. S loved picking up the pieces one by one and eating it. Through trial and error we learnt it's better to not overcook the pasta - mainly because though it's softer and easier to chew, it would break easily in his grip and frustrate him since he couldn't put it in his mouth. We also picked pasta varieties like fusilli or penne since they are longer cuts and easier to hold. Recipe below: 1. Make a "X" shaped cut on the tomato skin. Blanch it in water for about 5 min or until you see the skin start to peel back.  2. Sauté the garlic pods after peeling the skin in butter. 3. Mix the two together in a Mixie and grind coarsely without adding any water.Note: you can also very finely chop the cooked garlic and add to the pureed tomatoes. 4.Boil Water and add pasta to boiling water and cook until the pasta is soft. 5.Strain the water from cooked pasta and toss it in the prepared Tomato sauce and serve. Try it out and let us know if your baby loved it as well 🥰 Link in bio for more details. #babyledweaningindianstyle #babyledweaningindia #babyledweaningindianrecipes #blwindianideas #blwindia #blwindianideas #blwindianrecipes #blwpasta #pastaforbaby #tomatosaucepasta #blw6months #blwindianbaby #blwfingerfood #blwfingerfoodseries #babyledweaningmeals #blwsimpleandeasy #blwsimple https://www.instagram.com/p/CRJnAbWNqt_/?utm_medium=tumblr

Beetroot is definitely one of the fun vegetables out there for babies. They get so fascinated as they see the beetroot colour on their hands after holding it. You can introduce this any time after 6 Months after cooking it properly. Beetroots are highly nutritious and has a good amount of vitamin C which aids in iron absorption. They are rich in iron, folate (vitamin B9) and potassium. They are also a great source of fibre. Serving suggestion for 6M+ You can introduce well-cooked beetroot pieces to your baby cut to appropriate finger food length. Ensure the cuts are long enough for your baby to hold and eat. After 9 months or once your baby develops good pincer grasp, you can also cut it into smaller pieces that your baby is comfortable with. #babyledweaningindianstyle #beetrootforbabies #blwindianideas #blwfingerfood #blwindia #blw #babyledweaning #blwindianrecipes #babyledweaningindianbaby #babyledweaningindianrecipes #babyledweaning6months #babyledweaningideas #blw6months #blwbeetroot https://www.instagram.com/p/CRHNzFLtkBL/?utm_medium=tumblr

Kuzhi Paniyaram is a classic South Indian dish that’s perfect to introduce to babies at this age. Usually Kuzhi Paniyaram is done with lots of oil but we made this with just only 3-4 drops of oil for each dumpling for the baby portion and it turned out really good! S had a lot of fun eating it.
Serving suggestion: You can offer the kuzhi paniyaram whole or cut in half (6M+). It would be good to have a dip on the side like onion tomato chutney and smear it and serve.
Our Experience: we introduced this to S when he had just turned 7 months. We initially offered it whole with onion tomato chutney smeared on top. He loved it! He was able to chew through and tear it apart making it good chewing practice for him. We also offered it sliced in half (which was easier for smearing the dip). We will definitely be serving him this more often. Folks at home love this too, so it’s a good option for an easy healthy breakfast for the family.
