Unpopular Opinion: Every time a black female character (especially if this black female character is dark skinned) enters into a relationship with the popular fan-favorite white male character usually one of three things happen a. the black female character is now headcanoned as a lesbian (never bisexual or queer or anything that would leave the character with the possibility of still entering into a relationship with a man) b. white male character is now shipped with other popular fan-favorite white male character/other white female character (the popular fan-favorite white male character is usually headcanoned to be bisexual and when he is, shipped with a woman that woman is always white) or c. black female character (and sometimes their actresses) is now being talked about as if they are the devil himself.

Wanting characters to explore their sexuality is fine but I always find it odd how this always happens when one member of the relationship is a black/blackish woman. *forgot to mention the suddenly polyamorous relationship the three (black female, white male and white male/woman) characters are now without a doubt in*

If people can’t see how this can be harmful/dangerous, that’s cool, but anytime you want to paint all of a group a certain way and won’t show them in any other setting, that’s how you end up birthing new stereotypes.

It’s so all or nothing with our media representation. Black women don’t want to be shown as one thing(which seems to go right over most people’s heads).

Idk if you’ve seen s2 of hotd but it was so bad… im actually depressed about it because i was super attached to the story and they fucked up something that could have been insanely epic. How did they fumble this bad?? Like what actually happened.

No I haven’t seen s2(I made a vow and I’ve stuck with it), but from what I’ve gathered it doesn’t seem like a lot of people are happy with how it turned out. They did screw up royally considering the fact that they had the book(s) as their outline, but honestly the writing was on the wall with s1. Rarely do shows get better and s1 was absolutely atrocious. S2 which contained on the the trajectory of deviating from the books(like trying to axe Nettles)….it was doomed from the start.

Show!Alicent and Show!Rhaenrya were never going to experience motherhood (or marriage for that matter) the same way, when you take into consideration that Alicent was forced to marry Viserys (Rhaneyra was technically forced to marry Laenor, but even then they had an arrangement and Rhaenyra still had power, whereas Alicent didn't have that power or that arrangment).

Alicent was forced to have her children (Rhaenyra willing had children with Harwin a man of her choosing and did not have to endure marital r@pe. Even though she and Laenor didn't want to have s!x they agreed they would until they had a child. Alicent on the otherhand is quite literally summoned by her husband for s!x. S!x that upon hearing she was being summoned for began crying and during said s!x mentally had to dissociate).

While of course people can still compare them it always annoys me when people specifically compare their relationships with their children because the context in how these children came to be is completely different (and the fact that this is only ever used to demean Alicent). Therefore how these mothers view their children is going to be completely different. This doesn’t mean that Alicent and Rhaenyra don’t love their respective children it just means that the dynamics they have with those children are going to be vastly different.

Not only that but the way Alicent and Rhaenyra themselves were raised and the relationships they have/had with their own mothers (and fathers) is also going to impact how they raise their children.

Nothing to add cause this is an excellent analysis. Wish more people would acknowledge their different positions(in life and situation) and keep that in mind when talking about their mothering, but this fandom is allergic to actual analysis🙃

Yeah there is still some hope Nettles might show up in s3 if Rhaena hasn’t claimed him. However, I think it’s safe to say Ryan Condal, Sara Hess, and all the rest are racist fucks hell bent on propping up their Valaryan queen of flops and don’t mind throwing Nettles out the window and replacing her with a more acceptable character that they race-bent for that reason….

It makes so frustrated and upset that so much of the hotd fandom is already rushing to claim that the it’s not racist to combine rhaena and nettles. I really want the showrunners to feel the backlash cuz maybe they might change it? But no ofc not. The bootlickers and delulus are in full force defending everything these showrunners do. Let me tell you though, if Daeron would be cut, the world would have split in half.

Sadly Nettles has never been a very popular character. Even before HOTD a lot of fans have ignored her, her characterization, her race (people only like to admit she’s Black when it’s time to replace her with someone else), her importance in the Dance, her importance to Daemon, and the broader implications of her character in the ASOIAF universe.

Shes been working an uphill battle since 2013 because she’s a Black female character in a fantasy novel.

In the ASOIAF universe she’s further marginalized because she’s a non-Valyrian lowborn orphan. She survives a war (with her dragon) where many more beloved characters perish. Whether people want to admit to it or not(most obviously don’t), she has an extremely close relationship with a desirable male character.

A relationship that gets in the way of another more popular ship (which is really the source of most of these fans “beef” with her), but the fandom's treatment of her has worsened thanks to the show's fanbase. Thus we have arrived at this point where people actively want her cut and merged with Rhaena..…who she has absolutely nothing in common with.

All I’ll say to the people who think Nettles must be cut in order to prop up Missy Anne give Rhaena “something to do” is that it really does not have to be this way.

If there is room enough to makeup characters, include every other dragonseed/secondary character and expand on their arcs, there is room enough to include the only canonical surviving dragonseed. There is room to include the only Black dragonseed.* There is room to include the only female dragonseed and the only non-Valyrian dragonseed and expand on Rhaena’s preexisting book arc.

*It doesn’t matter if Alyn and Addam are Black now or that Baela and Rhaena(who aren’t even Black, they are mixed) are Black-ish now, Nettles is the only Black book canon character and she’d still be the only non-Valyrian dragonseed.

I cannot stress this enough, even in regards to show canon, there is no good reason to cut Nettles and give her arc to Rhaena.

There can be more than a handful of “Black” characters in the show. There isn’t a limit to how many “Black” female characters they can have. Rhaena doesn’t need to be ride into battle on dragonback to be cool, interesting, and worth character exploration. Nor does Nettles need to be sacrificed in order to “give Rhaena something to do.”

Just like how Helaena and Rhaenyra, Ulf and Hugh, and Addam and Alyn all exist despite sharing the same gender and racial background, so can Nettles and Rhaena.

Y’all can’t have one set of rules for yourselves and another for us. That’s not how this will go down and y’all won’t gaslight your way out of this.

It’s no surprise though that the showrunners seem to share the fandoms sentiments. Nettles unfortunately gets in the way of the narrative (fanfiction) they are trying to tell. They don’t care if she’s axed as opposed to a character like Daeron (who shouldn’t be axed either, but he isn’t more important than Nettles) because Rhaena exists and she’s Black-ish now too.

Rhaena is seen as the “safe option” that will appease shippers while at the same time won’t have the majority of Black fans(the racial group, not the team) calling them out for their blantant misogynoir.

She doesn’t break the status quo. She doesn’t get in the way of a dry wonder bread ship. She doesn’t make Missy Anne look bad. She’s not a threat.

The amount of times Black female characters continuously get the short end of the stick and get treated like human garbage thanks to the showrunners and racist fandoms boils my blood, but you can’t point that out because then you are making it into “a race thing” and you’re being “ungrateful,” blah blah blah

Honestly unless the fandom magically stops being racist(yes it is racism if you think Nettles and Rhaena are one and the same or that Nettles isn’t needed anymore since the show has a whopping five “Black” characters), GRRM talks some sense into Ryan, or Ryan realizes the value in Nettles, don’t expect much.

I’m remaining hopeful that they aren’t stupid enough to cut her, but it’s best to just not give this show any views(that’s the one thing we have control of and the show isn’t even good so it’s not like anyone is missing anything).

Aegon bends the knee to Helaena and look at her in the eyes and say “Our son will be avenged, i swear to you.”

Aemond standing there close to the door, while Aegon is walking to get out of the room, he tell him “find Daemon. I want him alive. Bring him to me.” Damn i love this it sounds so cool!

I actually find funny that Daemyra was expecting something like that with Daemon and Rhaenyra, but Ryan is giving the scene to Aegon and Helaena lmao i think Daemyras will be ready to jump on a cliff if all these leaks we're getting, is real 😂 However i see they're setting up God's eye battle! 👀

If that’s true they definitely will be upset and I have no idea why considering Weak Boy #2 wasn’t Daemon’s nor did he consider him his son(the line was Luke shall be avenged not our son).

Regardless of whether this leak is valid or not, I think they’ll definitely be hinting towards the final showdown between Daemon and Aemond at some point in this season.

Rhaenyra being forced at nineteen (when most noble born women are betrothed when they’re children and married sometimes before their sixteen to men twice their age) to marry (after being allowed to tour the seven kingdoms to find a husband of her choosing) isn’t sexist. Heirs both female and male have to have a heir to continue the line. Politically marrying Laenor Velaryon is a smart move but Rhaenyra was only forced to marry Laenor because of her inability to choose one on her tour and the fact that she was seen in wh*re house allegedly having sex with not only her Uncle but with Daemon. I understand Rhaenyra’s reasons for not wanting to marry (i.e her mother) but by wanting to eventually be Queen she has to bite the bullet and do it.

And as for her leaving Kings Landing I’m pretty 50/50. I understand why she left but leaving and not returning for six years was a big no no. This is more of a side note but her and Daemon ragging on the fact that Alicent changed the design of the Red Keep makes me angry. It’s been six years and Alicent is Queen Consort to a sick and dying King (a King who treats both herself and their children horribly) let her decorate how she wants to. And with all the sick sh*t the Targaryens do they need Jesus lol (another thing the way they made it seem as if Alicent is the only person wanting Aegon and Helaena to marry makes me mad. Book!wise Viserys and Viserys alone does that. By having Alicent arrange that the two be married makes her a very main cause of her children’s suffering).

As for Daemon himself he’s a sh*t father and a sh*t husband. He “tries” but he should try 100x harder. So why he thinks he should have an opinion on what goes on in a home he hasn’t laid his head down in for sixteen years is beyond my understanding lol.

Nettles and Daeron is not cut or being replaced with others. They're coming in S3 but they're making Nettles the only Dragonseed not chosen by Rhaenyra which make sense since she's supposed to hate her. I believe Daemon will bring her in the team and she won't trust her immediately.

Even Daeron might be there in s2. Ryan has confirmed he will be there(at some point), however, he won’t say anything on Nettles.

I agree that she’s not cut, but I’m livid that this show thinks it’s acceptable to literally include and highlight everyone except the most important dragonseed. I’m incensed that they don’t think she’s worthy of address.

I don’t care what they do at this point. I don’t like her being treated like a fucking afterthought.

It's always interesting how as soon as black women become a love interest in a straight ship 1 of 2 things will happen.

1. They will try to make the male gay or bisexual to devalue the ship or even if he is canonically bisexual his relationships with men will be more valued, ex; how every one was hyped when Daemon was allegedly flirting with the male servant in Pentos.

Or

2. They will claim that the ship has an abusive dynamic.

And this isn't just House of the Dragon this can be seen in almost ALL fandoms.

Add on the they don't have chemistry or why can't they just be friends and you've hit the nail on the head. Honestly the man doesn’t even have to be white either(cough Black Panther cough Namor and Shuri cough).

As long as there is a Black woman involved you can bet your last dollar there will be a million and one dumb excuses stating why it’s too problematic(yet they’ll have no problem shipping incest or a teenage girl with a man 900 years old) or why this other ship would actually provide representation(and then decry about wokeness).

tbh after these leaks I’m lowkey happy the show runners aren’t touching nettles/daemon. they fucked up every relationship on this show, even the ones they seem to like and want the audience to root for (d@emyra, rh@enicent)

For real, this show really is not worth it. The only thing I’ll say about this shit show is that it’s very telling that the only way they can prop up Dumbnyra is by erasing Nettles(who Dumbnyra’s racist ass moronic fanbase claim meant nothing to Daemon/she was just his daughter/she wasn’t a threat).
