"We'll stop for lunch after crossing over", they told us. We had just landed in Dibrugarh for the #BasarConfluence and it was past lunch time. But the mighty Bhramaputra was in between and it had to be crossed by a ferry. Google Maps had shown a bridge over a river. We were surprised that we were taking a ferry, and were even more surprised when we reached the #Bogibeel ghat and saw a full fledged bridge across the river. "It isn't inaugurated yet", they had told us. Well, today the bridge was finally inaugurated by the Prime Minister. A strategically important bridge, it's the longest rail-road bridge in India. It'll make the journey from #ArunachalPradesh to #Assam much easier and also bring train connectivity to this part of Arunachal Pradesh. Which made us among the last set of tourists to have crossed the Brahmaputra by ferry. Asia’s second-largest and India's longest rail-cum-road bridge, Bogibeel Bridge connects the south bank of the Brahmaputra river in Assam’s Dibrugarh to Silapathar in Dhemaji bordering Arunachal Pradesh. The 4.94 km long bridge is also India's first bridge to have fully welded steel-concrete support beams that can withstand high intensity earthquakes.

SAIL feels pride to have supplied 50% of total steel that is 35400 metric tonnes of steel including TMT Rebars, Plates and Structurals for Bogibeel Bridge and will continue to contribute in making a steel strong Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Northeast people dream of bridge couldn’t make a move by Congress government even after realising Chinese aggression towards India.Demand for bogibeel bridge started in 1960 after decades of struggle young students of Assam started agitations with successive congress government but they only acknowledged them after martyrdom of 855 young Assam students. In 1985 bridge was committed by congress government with late Rajeev gandhi but it just kept to words and work never started and after It repeated same with success congress govt.

After 12 years in 1997 United front came to power and by then Prime minister HD Deva Gowda laid foundation for the bridge however work was yet to start. Finally in 2002 NDA government started working on bogibeel bridge with Atal Bihari Vaajpai focus towards North east development. And later Manmohan Singh led congress government came in power in 2004 to 2014 and by that time India has booming economy irrespective of that decades later they finished only 58% of work. Due to delays and inefficiency of congress government budgets for the bridge spiralled from 1767 crores to 5800 crores.

In 2014 Narendra modi led NDA government came to power and work resumed immediately and in 2016 people elected Sarbananda Sonowal as Assam state chief minister from Bjp party and they both worked as team together and finished remaining 42% work in less than 4 years .

After missing numerous deadlines over years a First train did a trail run on December 2018. An engineering marvel #BogibeelBridge used 30 lakh tonnes of cement, so much steel that can make TWO Eiffel towers, my sincere gratitude to the unknown, unsung engineering team & workers who toiled day and night to make this dream a reality. NortheastIndia Assam. Apart from providing convince to people for commuting this bridge is constructed in such a way that this bridge can with stand tremor of battled tanks and armed forces which is major strategic move by India which can supply troops and armed forces swiftly towards indo china border.
