but i think the thing that really gets me about the bonnie & clyde musical is how inevitable it all is. like i don't use this phrase often because it's used so much on tumblr that it's kinda lost its meaning but the pair really are doomed by the narrative on so many levels.

first of all, it's based on real events. therefore everything that happens in the play has already happened and is predetermined

this wouldn't matter were it not for the fact that bonnie & clyde are so notorious and as a result we know they're going to die and we know they're going to die violently

secondly, and more importantly tbh, the play is cyclical. it starts and ends on the exact same scene – bonnie and clyde lying dead in a car that is riddled with bullet holes with the same faint music playing in the background

i love love love cyclical structures in tragedies because they really do give the viewer the sense that everything was leading up to this one moment – and in this case, that moment is the death of bonnie & clyde

finally, throughout the play we get the sense that the two know they're going to die. bonnie's poetry – 'some day they will get you too' and 'it's death for bonnie and clyde' for example, as well as the songs 'dyin ain't so bad' and 'too late to turn back now' again make their deaths seem inevitable

so yeah. doomed by the narrative wahoo. consider this me trying to convince you guys to get into the bonnie & clyde musical <3

This is me realizing that not a lot of people know Jeremy Jordan from Newsies on Broadway anymore.

WHICH IS TOTALLY FINE BTW

It's just super interesting to see the fandom spaces where actors are currently the most influential in. Like, for me, I'll always know Jeremy for Newsies, Bonnie&Clyde, and Supergirl. Other people will know him for Tangled and Death Note the Musical. And obviously people will know him as Lucifer in Hazbin Hotel, now.

I just think that's cool :)

Weirdly normal facts about The Barrow Gang:

Bonnie ate boiled eggs. Blanche sometimes boiled them for her

Bonnie and Blanche would sometimes sneak off to movies. But sometimes they all went to the movies together.

Bonnie and Clyde Playing poker, cleaning their guns and making noise until 2am which Blanche said she disapproved of.

Clyde once worked as a movie theatre usher!

see the thing is. bonnie & clyde is a tragedy. not a single character comes out of that happy. buck? dead. blanche? loses her husband whom she loved. clyde? dead. bonnie? dead and never gets to be a movie star. ted? loses bonnie and has to live with that guilt. the barrow gang's parents have to live with their grief & also the fact that the pair were on their way to meet them when they died and therefore it's partly their fault. the only person who's remotely ok by the end is mf hamer
