The stories are funny. Politeness progression of "scavenger" > "prospector" > "antiques curator", I guess. And for "the big city", read "a vault". Natalia suddenly being a neuroscientist is a little worrying given her terrible Doctor skill.

The funniest one is still An October December Mystery and its new One For My Baby quest description :) Boone and the Courier look a lot better than they did last year, too!

You might have guessed that the eponymous canine in A Puppy For Christmas is Dogmeat :D And Natalia is wearing Ian's jacket <3

The dollmakers are on dolldivine :) They're really fun, but I don't like how obviously the gay ones are just the straight one spliced together. The women are looking up at a non-existent man, the men are looking down at a non-existent woman. I covered it pretty well in both cases, but the number of f/f couples here makes their faces a bit too similar, which I don't like, and also makes them all be going in for a kiss, which I guess I do :)

Las Vegas being one of the half dozen location options is very convenient for FNV fans!

Slow burn

My first idea for HTTWSB had Boone and the Courier only deciding to act on their feelings after the 2nd Battle of Hoover Dam. The second one condensed that a bit - it would be near the end of the fic, after the Courier has been away doing the DLCs for a while, that they realise they don’t want to be apart again and it’s worth the risk of being bereaved again (my Courier is widowed, too)

I think I might have still been aiming for that when I started writing. What I actually wrote was that they fall for each other (quite literally) 2 days after meeting, after the first few hours they’ve spent together. Boone nearly kisses her the next night, but he chickens out. Instead they wake up grinding on each other and pretending it never happened. Just thinking about it. A lot.

It ends up being a whopping 19 days(!!!!!!!!!) after they meet before they actually kiss, confess their feelings directly and have sex. It is also nearly 300k words, so...!

And it’s another 35 days before they kill Benny. Priorities, you know?

How Much Territory Are the Fallout Player Characters Actually Micromanaging: An Analysis

I did some amateur research to figure out which of the Fallout protagonists (specifically 3, NV, and 4) have a reasonable area of land to constantly traverse. I used Apple Maps to find the straightest possible walking path from a point on either end of the game map, then multiplied the north-south and east-west figures to get an approximate square mileage. Since none of the walking paths were completely straight, these numbers will all be a little higher than actual. BUT the game maps also don’t completely correlate to the real-life locations, so consider these numbers to be estimates.

The Commonwealth: Around 600 square miles. This is honestly pretty manageable, especially if you’re teleporting or helicoptering all over the place. It would be exhausting, but you could theoretically get across the map in a day with time to spare for questing.

The Capital Wasteland: Around 800 square miles. Fairfax is the halfway point; very few locations on the western half of the map actually correspond to anything in real life. The exception is the cavern Little Lamplight is based on, which would make the game map 100 miles long. The map definitely doesn’t extend that far into Virginia.

New Vegas: Kind of hard to calculate at this scale, but we’re looking at a little under 3000 square miles! Through. the Mojave. Desert. The Courier is really going to have to commit to a course of action before traveling, because they won’t be coming back for about a week.

If you’re a fanfic writer, remember that you don’t owe realism to anyone. BUT, if realism is something you care about for your writing, keep these distances in mind!

Most unrealistic part of Fallout New Vegas companions is that they all just disperse from you once the story is complete. Like you fought a war with and/or for me, a REVOLUTION, and you just fuck off after all that???

In my mind they all just sit in the Lucky 38 having Always Sunny-esque conversations with each other and the Courier until they venture out to get shot at for fun.
