💬 What are your weekend plans? | Happy #caturday! There’s a shop in Ghent that pairs books and booze

The idea is that each book is paired with a bottle of wine or spirit that is connected to or featured in it. Located in the pretty medieval city of Ghent (Belgium), Books&Booze offers tastings and workshops, and they also sell vinyl records and original art. Bonus: a fair proportion of the books are in English, so you can still enjoy your visit if you cannot read Dutch.

Whiskey’s Greetings

I made a huge mistake when I was in undergrad: I abandoned pleasure reading. Growing up, I devoured books so quickly that, between my parents and the school and public libraries, my desire for new reads was barely sated. Once I entered high school, the tables turned a little, and between the demands of school and increasing responsibilities at home-- you know, the kind that come with the ability to safely operate an oven and eventually a motor vehicle, I didn’t have the time. College was equally challenging in that department, but for slightly different reasons. 

After graduating in May (yes, May, 2017; yes, I’m a fresh-faced 22 year old, thanks for being condescending) I tried to get back into it, but it was difficult-- I had just fried my brain with four hard and fast years of education. Now, eight months later, you can bet your ass I’m going back for more. Yep. I’m starting my masters program in just three short days. Little nervous, tbh. But I have a plan: 

1. Kick ass at part time job

2. Kick ass in classes 

3. Go out with friends at least once a month (curling up with bf for movie night does not count) 

4. Read one book a week. Just for fun. 

And this blog is about all of these things, but mainly number 4. I want to keep in the habit of reading fun books throughout my time in grad school (at least the masters part of it) just because it makes me happy and I love a good book. This is the intro. Enjoy the story. 

And I will be writing these drunk (read: tipsy), because “weekly reads” was already taken and the only thing that sounded good in the mix was “whiskey.” Cocktail recipes to be included when I feel like it because it’s my blog, so ha.
