is it possible she was trying to make a [bad] joke? like instead of asking "how's college going" she asked "how's student debt" since they're basically synonymous? it's still in bad taste especially if they know your financial situation, but it's something to consider.

oh no she meant it in a sinister way. we ended our friendship on bad terms. so when i put in our grade groupchat if anyone had a grade picture of us bc i wanted one for my dorm, she messaged me and told me to x her out becuase she “doesnt want to be on my wall” and ofc i was irritated as fuck with her and we started going to blows and it went from there
