Violence?
There have been times when–showing support to Luigi Mangione and his shooting of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, net worth of about $43 million, whose company got rich off of denying health insurance claims to those who desperately need the money–I have been scolded online for promoting “vigilante violence.” A couple of things should be taken into consideration before scolding me in…

Brian Thompson wasn't even a billionaire, he made 10 mil a year in a job he had for like. 3 years. estimated net worth I could find online pegged him at 43m. if he had no other source of income and didn't invest he'd have to work that job 100 years to become a billionaire. That's the scale of how dumb it is billionaires exist.
The high's starting to wear off. Someone shoot another billionaire CEO

Piers Morgan Rips Into Taylor Lorenz as She Giggles About Healthcare CEO's Death

Piers Morgan had enough of Taylor Lorenz’s antics on his show. The former Washington Post reporter has been vocal about her pleasure over the death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who was murdered in the early morning hours on December 4 outside the New York Hilton Midtown hotel. Lorenz has taken the weird position that wishing death upon those who they think might have caused the issues within America’s healthcare system is warranted and should be celebrated.
It's the Left’s weird segue into debating the failure of American healthcare, which is fine. The roping-in of a brutal murder is weird. You can have a substantive policy debate without exhibiting joy over the death of someone because he’s a corporate executive. On his show, Morgan had enough of Lorenz’s schadenfreude, asking the writer why the f**k she was smiling about this event (via Mediaite):
“Why would you be in such a celebratory mood about the execution of another human being?” he questioned. “Aren’t you supposed to be on the caring, sharing left where, you know, you believe in the sanctity of life?” Lorenz replied, “I do believe in the sanctity of life and I think that’s why I felt, along with so many other Americans, joy, unfortunately.” Lorenz’s answer visibly shocked Morgan, who asked, “Joy?! Serious? Joy at a man’s execution?” “Maybe not joy, but certainly not empathy,” Lorenz declared. Morgan pressed, “How can this make you joyful? This guy is a husband, he’s a father, and he’s been gunned down in the middle of Manhattan. Why does that make you joyful?” […] “So should they all be killed then?” asked Morgan. “Should they all be killed, these healthcare executives? Would that make you even more joyful?” After Lorenz laughed and replied, “Uh, no,” Morgan shot back, “Well, why not? Why are you laughing? You seem to find the whole thing hilarious. A bloke’s been murdered in the street. I don’t find it funny at all.” […] “Taylor, I don’t mean to be rude, but why the fuck are you laughing all the time?” Morgan snapped. “I don’t get it. Sorry, apologies for my language, but honestly I find it unbelievable! What are you laughing at?”
Guest Tomi Lahren tried to provide a saner take, especially since Mr. Thompson leaves behind a wife and two kids. Lorenz's sophomoric attitude got to Morgan.
Luigi Mangione, who hails from a prominent Baltimore family, has been arrested and charged with Thompson’s murder. He was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where police found a firearm, four fake IDs, and reportedly $8,000 in cash. He also had a manifesto on his person. The irony about making this kid some working-class folk hero is that he’s not. He’s a rich kid who probably had a higher net worth than that of Mr. Thompson, an Iowa native who came from a working-class background.
It's Lorenz’s reaction that makes it impossible for Democrats to connect with people because they’re so online, detached, and extreme that it makes voters want to punch them in the face. Whatever cockamamie take there is out there, the Left will adopt it. Handicapped parking spaces being symbols of white supremacy is something liberals would adopt and likely will at some point because they’re all mental invalids at this point.

Stop saying UHC CEO Brian Thompson was a billionaire! His net worth at time of death was only $43 million. Saying he was a billionaire just gives the hundreds of obscenely wealthy and moraly corrupt millionaires another shield to hide behind.

*Millionaire down. Thompson’s net worth is estimated to be only $42.9 million. Over 20x less than 1 billion. So even screwing over millions of people doesn’t get you there. Billionaires really shouldn’t exist.

Billionaire down!!!! UnitedHealthcare is super predatory, they utilized AI that falsely denied 90% of doctor approved claims, they lobbied against the ACA, they fuck over people regularly, they're shady as fuck. "Police do not know why" oh yeah sure keep telling yourself that
#not even close to a billionaire it’s ridiculous#the fact that all of what he did was legal is proof of how unfair and wrong our system is

Parents of Teens Who Stole $1 Million In Bitcoin Sued By Alleged Victim
An anonymous reader quotes a report from ZDNet, written by Charlie Osborne: The parents of two teenagers allegedly responsible for stealing $1 million in Bitcoin are being sued. According to court documents obtained by Brian Krebs, Andrew Schober lost 16.4552 in Bitcoin (BTC) in 2018 after his computer was infected with malware, allegedly the creation of two teenagers in the United Kingdom. The complaint (.PDF), filed in Colorado, accuses Benedict Thompson and Oliver Read, who were minors at the time, of creating clipboard malware. The malicious software, designed to monitor cryptocurrency wallet addresses, was downloaded and unwittingly executed by Schober after he clicked on a link, posted to Reddit, to install the Electrum Atom cryptocurrency application. During a transfer of Bitcoin from one account to another, the malware triggered a Man-in-The-Middle (MiTM) attack, apparently replacing the address with one controlled by the teenagers and thereby diverting the coins into their wallets. According to court documents, this amount represented 95% of the victim's net wealth at the time of the theft. At today's price, the stolen Bitcoin is worth approximately $777,000. "Mr. Schober was planning to use the proceeds from his eventual sale of the cryptocurrency to help finance a home and support his family," the complaint reads. The pair, tracked down during an investigation paid for by Schober, are now adults and are studying computer science at UK universities. The mothers and fathers of Thompson and Read are named in the complaint. Emails were sent to the parents prior to the complaint requesting that the teenagers return the stolen cryptocurrency to prevent legal action from being taken. However, the requests, sent in 2018 and 2019, were met with silence. Schober's complaint claims that the parents "knew or reasonably should have known" what their children were up to, and that they also failed to take "reasonable steps" in preventing further harm. In response (.PDF), the defendants do not argue the charge, but rather have requested a motion to dismiss based on two- and three-year statutes of limitation. "Despite his knowledge of his injury and the general cause thereof, Plaintiff waited to file his lawsuit beyond the two and three years required of him by the applicable statutes of limitations," court documents say. "For this reason, Plaintiff's claims against Defendants should be dismissed." However, Schober's legal team has argued (.PDF) that the teenagers were not immediately traced, and roughly a year passed between separately identifying Read and Thompson. Schober's lawyers have requested that the motion to dismiss is denied.

As a reminder, the textbook definition of terrorism is...
The actual use of force, or threat of use of force, by non-state actors against civilian or soft government targets with the immediate goal of instilling fear in the general population and the ultimate goal of affecting policy change.
In Luigi's case:
✅ Actual use of force or threat of force
✅ by a non-state actor
✅ Against a civilian or soft government target
❓ With the immediate goal of instilling fear in the general population
❓ With the ultimate goal of affecting policy change.
Did Luigi intend to instill fear in the general public (median income of $43k/yr, median net worth of $192k) of being gunned down by allegedly gunning down Brian Thompson (2023 compensation $10.2 million, net worth $43 million)? Or was this a very specifically targeted hit?
Did Luigi intend, by allegedly gunning down a CEO, to cause changes to UHC's policies, the insurance industry's policies, or laws? Or was this motivated by personal spite?

Everybody Got a Deal: 2020 NBA Trade Deadline Edition
What is an NBA Trade Deadline without some gasbag giving their opinions on which players should and shouldn’t be traded? That’s right, it’s that time of the year. Trades and rumors are flying all across the Twittersphere, so that means it’s time for another cliche list of trades (insert gasbag here) would want to see happen. Does that mean these will happen? No, probably the opposite. But here are four trades that I think I certainly plausible enough for both sides to do that will make both sides better. Enjoy!
1. Lakers/Nets: DeMarcus Cousins, Kyle Kuzma and Troy Daniels for Spencer Dinwiddie

Just to get ahead of things: no, I would not expect the Nets to accept this trade. But, it follows the template of what the Lakers would look for should they trade Kyle Kuzma. The Lakers are short on players who can create their own shot on the perimeter (no, Rajon Rondo’s incessant indention of the hardwood followed by reverse flicks off the backboard doesn’t count), one of a few reasons why the Lakers bleed points when LeBron James exits the floor. I expect the Lakers to play the buyout market to improve there and get another wing defender if possible, but Dinwiddie would be a drastic upgrade as a ball-handler should Rob Pelinka and crew be able to pull this trade-off with the limited trade equity they possess. It would make some sense for Brooklyn too; Dinwiddie’s contract expires after the season and the fit between him and Kyrie Irving has been tricky at best. Perhaps they could get more via sign and trade in the summer where cap space is limited amongst the elite of the league, but if they decide it’d be best to move on, they might as well move on now. Kuzma is a polarizing player, but I think he’s improved a bit as a defender and willingness to do the little things to go with his scoring ability. I’m on the glass-half-full side of the conversation. I love Kuzma’s competitiveness, his scoring ability and his willingness to play defense and rebound (at the very least, trying on defense is a decent floor as a defender!). I wouldn’t trade him just to trade him and I’m not alone. It would have to be the right trade: a trade that fills a need while getting a player that is also young with upside for more. Spencer Dinwiddie fills that bill. He’d be worth trading Kuzma, in my opinion, but not everyone rumored to pique the Lakers’ interest is.
2. Clippers/Cavs: Moe Harkless, Rodney McGruder and Mfiondu Kabengele for Tristan Thompson

The Clippers need size, and, as Brian Windhorst stated on ‘The Lowe Post’ podcast, they’re looking for some at the center position. Currently, Kawhi Leonard is their leading rebounder. They have had troubles with bigs capable of doing work offensively, such as Anthony Davis, LaMarcus Aldridge, Nikola Jokic, etc. Montrezl Harrell is not one to be confused with Draymond Green or Bam Adebayo for his defensive prowess, or lack thereof (the Clippers’ defense is better when Harrell is off the floor versus when he is on it, where he typically plays against second units). Is Ivica Zubac ready for big-time playoff minutes? Enter Tristan Thompson, who not only wants out of Cleveland, has championship experience, but also has championship experience with Tyronn Lue, now an assistant coach on the Clippers. The Clippers wouldn’t lose much in terms of Thompson’s ability to roll to the rim but would gain his menace on the glass and defensive ability to switch on guards and protect the rim. Losing Maurice Harkless would be a loss (I know he can’t shoot it well but I’ve always liked Harkless and his toughness defensively) but they don’t need him as much as they’d need Thompson and need to match the salary. The Cavs move on from Thompson and his expiring contract and get one of my favorite prospects from the 2019 NBA Draft in Mfiondu Kabengele, who can protect the rim and stretch the floor, a couple of things the Cavs could very much use to go with their young guards.
3. Thunder/76ers: Chris Paul for Al Horford and Zhaire Smith

If there’s a that somehow needs a playmaker on the perimeter more than the Lakers, I present the Philadelphia 76ers. Josh Richardson is their most qualified since Ben Simmons not only can’t shoot but refuses to, and he averages only a modest 0.88 points per possession as a ball-handler in pick and roll, per NBA.com. That ranks in the 60th percentile of qualified ball-handlers. Chris Paul on the other hand? 1.08 points per possession, good for the 94th percentile. He still very much has it. I think Al Horford still has it too, but his fit has been tricky in Philadelphia where he is constantly met with bodies and forced to be a floor spacer when he can do more than just that. Perhaps a change of scenery with his old college coach could do the trick, where the possibilities of a two-man game with Horford and young stud Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who needs more opportunities since Paul and Dennis Schroder (who I think is most likely of those three to be traded) are sharing his spotlight too, are endless. Paul is a basketball genius who can figure out how to navigate through the tight corridors the Ben Simmons - Joel Embiid pairing present (he basically did the same with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan). Paul’s contract is a brutal one to eat but could be the best way to turn Philadelphia around without trading one of Simmons or Embiid. Give the Thunder another young prospect in Zhaire Smith and that may be enough to take on Horford’s longer but less extravagant contract while getting off Paul’s ginormous deal. I think both would benefit from this deal.
4. Heat/Pelicans: Goran Dragic, Justise Winslow, Duncan Robinson, Kendrick Nunn and 2025 1st Round Pick for Jrue Holiday, Nicolo Melli and Frank Jackson

I don’t expect a deal to get done without Tyler Herro getting shipped to New Orleans from Miami unless David Griffin loves Justise Winslow. Nonetheless, in this hypothetical world, this deal gets done. Holiday would fit perfectly with the glorious, gritty Heat culture and provide another player to create his own shot alongside Jimmy Butler as well as grind defensively to try to compete for a championship this season in the Eastern Conference. With Brandon Ingram ascending into an All-Star and Zion Williamson growing into the alpha he is destined to be, how essential is Jrue Holiday to New Orleans, as great a player as he is? He is a free agent soon too and might be ahead of his young teammates’ timeline at 29. Duncan Robinson, Justise Winslow and Kendrick Nunn all do (they are all below 25 and somehow Winslow is the youngest at just 23) and all could fit alongside the young Pelicans team. Goran Dragic could fill the veteran void left behind by Holiday and previously played in Phoenix during GM David Griffin’s tenure in Phoenix. I don’t expect this deal to happen, but I think it could make sense for both sides.

UK Visitor Arrivals Spending Up 19% in October 2019
Visitors to the UK spent £2.3 billion in October 2019, the highest ever for the month and 19% more than in October 2018. During the month, there were 3.4 million overseas visitor arrivals to the UK, a rise of 3% on October 2018. These latest statistics from VisitBritain show that it was a record-breaking August to October period for both overseas visits to the UK, and for visitor spending. August 2019 was the highest month ever for both inbound visits and spending, and only the third time ever that the four million mark for inbound visits to the UK has been surpassed in a single month. Quarterly data shows strong growth in spending and visits from the US, the UK’s largest and most valuable inbound tourism market.

Visitors from the US spent a record £3.4 billion in the UK between January and September 2019, up 23% on the same period in 2018. A record 3.5 million US arrivals visited the UK during that time, an increase of 13% y-o-y. There were also a record number of visitor arrivals from China between January and September 2019 with 321,000 people, an increase of 8% on the same period in 2018. Spending by those arrivals during this period jumped 11% y-o-y to £553 million. VisitBritain Director, Patricia Yates, said, “These record-breaking figures underpin a longer-term pattern of growth from our long-haul high spending markets, demonstrating Britain’s continued ability to compete internationally for visitors in a fiercely competitive global environment. The results also reinforce tourism’s importance as a driver of economic growth and its role in promoting a positive, welcoming image of Britain globally. Working with partners we are telling customers about experiences they can only have here, converting the inspiration to visit into bookings and encouraging visitors to discover more of the country, boosting local economies.” These latest figures bring the number of overseas arrivals to the UK from January to October to 32.8 million, up 2% on the same period in 2018 with visitors spending rising 8% to £21.2 billion. Looking ahead, VisitBritain has predicted that spending by visitor arrivals to reach a record £26.6 billion this year, a 6.6% increase on the expected spending in 2019 of £25 billion. The number of overseas arrivals to the UK is forecast to rise to 39.7 million in 2020, the highest ever. Tourism is now worth an estimated £127 billion to the UK economy.
