Bricriu had made sure Lily was with his parents before he went looking for her, knowing the cops wouldn't do shit. It hadn't been all that easy to figure out where they'd taken Nancy, but once he found her he wasn't going to leave her there.

He'd ended up camping out, watching, waiting for the perfect chance until it happened, the window of opportunity. It wasn't much longer before he'd found a way in without being seen. Upon hearing her voice he hushed softly in the dark, "shh, don't alert them they didn't see me come in."

Puling his phone out he turned the torch on and pointed it into the cage, "are you hurt?"

With the exception of one short passage in Scéla Conchobuir maic Nessa,* there are no physical descriptions of the Ulster Cycle’s premier Trickster, Bricriu mac Carbada. Despite that, I’ve been working with him for so long now that he’s all but gained total sentience in my head so here he is—the man, the myth, the menace.

I love this little shit with all my heart. He’s a social manipulator of the highest order. He throws the best parties. Him and Fergus are the most extremely divorced couple in the world. He’s such a pain in the ass that it actually puts him beyond reproach. He is completely pathetic. Ulster would have self-destructed without him.

*Frankly, I’m not entirely inclined to read the pinnochio-esque boil as particularly useful for a few reasons but I did like the idea of at least some of his otherness showing outwardly, hence the port-wine birthmark.

Happy STS! It's been a long, weird week, so have a character ask! Which one of your characters would you trust to dress you? Would they pick pieces in your style or would they mostly use you as a chance to play dress up?

Most of the cast are non-fashion people, so I don't know that I'd pick any of them. More specifically, Scarlet and Whisper a) aren't fashion people and b) might steal my clothes instead of helping.

Florian and Bricriu do have pretty good clothing sense, but Florian would either a) be impossible to find or b) not be interested, and I wouldn't want Bri to help for non-fashion related reasons. On a similar note, Kaira probably wouldn't be available, but if she was she's got a pretty good fashion sense and I think it'd go well.

I'd trust Tay, Iris, and London to help, we'd probably wind up having a fashion show and not actually getting any outfit chosen, but it would be a lot of fun and now that I'm thinking about it I really wanna do that.

And that leaves Felix and Helen, if I wanted to actually get clothes chosen instead of having a fun fashion show I think I'd pick them. Helen's good with looks in general, and Felix knows what most fashions are like, so I think I'd wind up looking very nice.

Finally the weather was improving, if Bricriu said he wasn't excited to finally be able to be back out in the dirt he'd be lying, having been locked away for years he missed helping his dad out with the landscaping business. He didn't feel ready to be back to work just yet, but his parents had given him free reign of the home garden to ease back into it, they were just glad he was out in the day and not hiding away in his room or the garage.

As he got up from his knees from where he had been planting some seedlings he'd started in the makeshift growing station in the garage during winter and noticed someone was looking at him. "Hi there, admiring the flowers are we?" His tone was warm, though there was some nerves within his tone, rubbing his dirt covered hands on the thighs of his jeans.
