June Jordan: 09-24-1981, (video, 41'30"), with June Jordan, Peter Marchant, Adriane M. Livingston, and Mary Elsie Robertson, Brockport Writers Forum, Brockport, NY, 1981 (transcript pdf here) [Writers Forum Videos, SUNY Brockport, Brockport, NY]
«[…] for sure, if there is anything that I want to do with my work, it is to encourage them if not kick them, pull, drag, yank them into action. Life is action. Inaction is death. At this time, if you can’t see that, at this specific time in American history, if you can not see that, I think you are already gone, not a victim, gone.» ― June Jordan (1981, transcript, p. 11)

The offender "got a rush" out of committing crimes and enjoyed being a "criminal."  -- Prosecutor
Shaun R Zimmer, New Your inmate 16B1617, previously 06B0611, 03B1386; born 1980, incarceration intake (this time) at age 36, scheduled for parole consideration 01/18/2038, with full release 10/24/2041
Assault, Robbery; with prior convictions for Robbery and Assault
In May 2016, a man pleaded guilty to robbing several stores and a bank the previous summer was sentenced.
Shaun Zimmer, 35, robbed a number of stores and a bank between July 4 and 9, 2015. On July 9,2015, he was approached by Gates police officers on Lyell Avenue; Gates Police Officer Patrick Ellison was stabbed in the arm on Lyell Avenue when he tried to arrest Zimmer. During a subsequent struggle, the officer who was attacked shot Zimmer in the lower body.
Police surrounded that area after receiving a tip that Zimmer was in a car counting cash he got during a bank robbery. The money was stained with red dye.
Zimmer was sentenced to 26 years in state prison for three counts of first-degree robbery, one count of second-degree robbery and one count of second-degree assault.
Prosecutors say Shaun Zimmer "got a rush" out of committing crimes and enjoyed his career as a "criminal." They added that he didn't care if he terrorized clerks when he robbed stores at knifepoint, or attacked and stabbed a police officer.
Zimmer received a harsh sentence because he is a predicate felon -- New York State term for a person with a qualifying prior felony conviction.
In addition to the sentence of 26 years, he will face five years on parole once he serves his time.  Police praised the sentence Zimmer was given, saying it sent a message to anyone who attacks a police officer.
It was Zimmer's status as a parolee that was most concerning to police when they learned he was the suspect in a string of convenience story robberies. They said there was no sense of urgency from the State Division of Parole when Gates Police reported that they couldn't find Zimmer.
Police claim parole didn't properly track Zimmer; It was Zimmer's parents that identified him and called police.
"Clearly we still have an issue with the state parole system," Gates Police Chief James VanBrederode said. "$1.5 million is what it's going to cost us to incarcerate him for the next 26 years."
Chief Dan Varrenti of Brockport Police and the Monroe County Police Chief's Association said this legislation is needed so police can better track parolees and charge them if they have committed crimes in violation of their parole.

About Me
Hey, I'm Taylor. I am a student at SUNY Brockport. I double major in Art with a Graphic Design concentration and Biology along with a Chemistry minor. I realized I wanted something different than the career path I had originally planned for, so I decided to add my Graphic Design major this past fall as I have always loved art and design. Welcome to my space for creative development.

Hello everyone! My name is Sarah and I am a double major in both Marketing and Graphic Design at SUNY Brockport. I choose these two majors as I feel that they compliment each other well, and I will get a deeper understanding for each major due to the other. I am also in the women's rugby club here on campus. I have been fortunate enough to travel to Paris, France and have seen a lot of the churches we have talked about so far. I was able to visit both the Musee d'Orsay and the Louvre where I got to take a selfie with the Mona Lisa. My favorite part of the whole trip however had to be visiting the Giverny gardens where Monet painted many of his most famous paintings.  I have worked at the Corning Museum of Glass and have learned a good amount on the history of glass and glass art. I have also worked with the artists in Corning to create murals and promote the importance of public art.
