This is a brief photoshoot of band black midi following the release of their 2021 album Cavalcade. The cover is for a magazine called ele-king and black midi was interviewed with the likes of Black Country, New Road and Squid, being honored as the bands of the future. Stepping away from the sound of their debut album Schlagenheim, Cavalcade embraces more of an electrifying prog-jazz approach, just as mathy as one would want a black midi album to be though. It’s comprised of fun songs of riddling lyricism such as John L & Hogwash and Balderdash. Gorgeous ballads such as Marlene Dietrich and Dethroned. My favorite song, Chondromalacia Patella is a perfect mix of both. I’d advise all to listen if you’re looking to expand your taste in rock music.

i've got an art assignment and my art teacher is welcoming us to use song lyrics on our assignment, we can draw pretty much anything. if you had to choose a metal song with the most poetic and beautiful lyrics to go with an art piece, what would you choose?

Saw THE FLYING LUTTENBACHERS in my buddy's basement the other night. Some great psychedelic brutal prog no-wave free jazz math punk face melter stuff. This was a great show in a great place.

I'm not really into the punk house thing anymore as much as I used to be, so I really appreciated that this was that, but for weird outsider artists who are all about experimental music. Yeah we're there to be merry and have a good time, but it's for the love of art, not as an excuse to act like a jerk.

I hear this is more like what it used to be like in the 70s for that kinda stuff if you found the right people, back when this was more the norm. It's something I can very much get behind. I went to punk house shows to party and do substances. I go to something like this because it genuinely caters to my interests and creates a very positive space for like-minded people.

Because before the main set, there was an hour long "5 Minute Fest" that me and my partner and some friends played. Anyone who brings gear is invited to play. Everyone sets up, makes sure they're good to go, and then once we figure out a playing order, we go around the room, and everyone plays a five minute solo improv set, and then that will just roll into the next person's set, not stopping, back to back. And it was super cool and a good excuse to make some noise.

I had a great time at this. It was much needed.

I had a great time writing/recording this EP of brutal prog tunes and creating these pixel art ships! The EP is conceptualized as the soundtrack to an imaginary retro shmup. Gnarly bass guitar riffs and quirky keyboard licks abound, with prominent usage of a Yamaha Reface CS and software emulation of the Korg M1.
