Misaki has been saying how she wanted to do better for Miri, be better for her. Goes so far as to try her hand at cooking Hamburg steak from scratch because she wants to be able to give her everything she deserves. Then, she dies.
Post episode 7 Kazuki believing that they could change, that they could really be a family. That him and Rei and Miri, despite having not-so-good pasts could have a bright future together. Then, he argues that they’re bad for her, that they need to put her in an orphanage far away. That they could never achieve happiness as a family.
Rei not wanting to care for a child, being wholly unfit and partially unwilling to care for her. Continuing the charade while knowing that he had an obligation to the Suwa family and his fake happiness couldn’t last. Then, advocating to be Miri’s papa, to be with her forever and care for her and love her because him and Kazuki are all she has left in this world.

Everyone will be hypocrites, indeed.

I can’t believe this is real. It has to be 100% intentional that it sounded like wedding vows

Before, Rei kills because he was told to. He was ordered to. It's a job he can't refuse because he was brought up to be a killing machine.
But in this, he chose to kill anyone for Miri.

Disclaimer: I LOVE Kazuki and Rei. They are amazing characters and I'm not attempting to criticise or dishonour them lmao. This post is more of a talk about how we don't really pay attention to their so called dark side since we don't connect with their victims
A thing we all have to sometimes remember is that Kazuki and Rei are bad people. Awful people, in fact. They killed kid's dad and then basically stole her to live with them. "Oh but her dad? That man who looked uncomfortably similar to Kazuki? He was bad, so it's okay!"
He still was her dad.
Than because of them kid's mother was also killed. "Oh that woman who abandoned Miri? She was bad, so it's okay!"
She still was her mom.
And, on top of that, they both are killers, murderers, assassins. They've killed people. "Oh but they were bad..."
But they still were people.
And, c'mon, we don't even know if those victims actually were criminals or smth. They just interfered with other bad guys.
And despite this all, Kazuki and Rei are very good by moral standards of choice they make or way they act with, for example, Miri. We sympathise with them. And this makes them amazing, deep characters, but I just wish the topic of them both being literal mass murderers was explored more in the fandom lol

Ok, I need to talk about this scene right here. When Rei almost sinks back into his smoking habit but thinks better of it, and even gives Kazuki his lighter to signify that he is going to quit forever ;v;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, while they are talking, Rei says that Kazuki was the one who told him to quit and he seemed a bit confused- asking “Did I say that?” “Did I say that?” We were shown that Kazuki was the one who made him avoid smoking around Miri (using the kitchen fan to pull away the smoke), but I also think that Rei made the conscious effort to quit as long as they had Miri. Which is different than just avoiding smoking inside the house
Also I just wanted to add this pic of them sitting and watching small children’s cartoons all day I CRYY

ARE YOU OKAY?!
No like, seriously, y’all just got thrown into the pits of angst and I am worried for all of you. I couldn’t watch the show because of Animixplay shutdown (rest in peace) so I’ve been silently keeping up with everything on Tumblr and, like, ep 11?!!??!? No seriously y’all need some help. Everyone here gets a hug. I don’t care if you haven’t watched the show, you get a hug. Because like all of tumblr is just a bunch of depressed people cobbled together by the strings of fandom (I mean I’m no different I’m thriving off of the existence of sxf) so I think a hug is well deserved. Long live fandoms, bringing us together since the 60s

BD Episode 11 thoughts! SPOILERS
Omg I was waiting on the edge of  my seat for todays episode and honestly? Not as angsty as I was thinking it was going to be.
1st, I thought Kazuki and Rei going separate ways would be a much bigger argument, but they just....leave. Which honestly might be sadder, because it makes it feel like neither of them even have the energy to fight for each other anymore. They don’t have the strength to keep from drifting away from each other and that's heartbreaking. I do like that decision though, I think it makes sense that Kazuki wouldn’t want to be in that apartment anymore without Miri or Rei and that rei would retreat back into his persona as a stone cold assassin. They are both grieving in their respective ways.
2nd, I don’t like Misaki, and her dying doesn’t really make me like her more per se. BUT I will give her credit, she was trying, REALLY trying, not just passively being her mom but actively trying to do right by her. I don’t think that absolves her of sending her daughter to a criminal, not caring if she lived or died, BUT perhaps if she had the time she could have made amends.
I have seen some people saying killing her in this fashion is cheap and misogynistic and I don’t agree. I can agree that this was probably the easiest and least creative way to get Miri back into the hands of our Buddy Daddies, but the show only has one episode left. The show runners don’t have the luxury of more time to make a more compelling or complex arc for Misaki, nor do I really think she deserves it. I don’t agree that killing female character= misogyny or sexism. It’s a show that, by design, is about two men, that’s like getting upset that anime’s about male sports teams don’t have enough strong female characters. I think Misaki served her role, and the fact that she got any good characterization before ep 11 is again, perhaps more than she deserved. She got to love her daughter, to live with her and stood strong on her promise to be better, those facts prove that people can change, a big theme for the show. Plus, I don’t think this plot beat is unrealistic for the context of the show, I mean we saw how the organization treats the lovers of those who try to leave. It makes sense that rei’s dad would finally put his foot down and remove the “distractions” from his heir, including Kazuki mind you!
and finally 3rd, them leaving, I’ve heard we only have one episode left, so I’m worried about how well they will wrap this up. Because we KNOW they can’t just leave, we’ve seen what happens. But they also make no reference to actually taking out the organization themselves, so I dunno? I can’t guess where this is going, I HOPE we put a bullet in between boss’s eyes. But I do love that it’s Rei fighting kazuki for them to remain a family, he is invested now and he won’t let his family leave him again and that's really sweet.
Our Buddy daddies are daddies again!

I can't imagine how difficult it would be for Miri (even older Miri) to explain... things. It's one thing being a daughter of hitmen. It's another thing getting to be told that your mother got caught in the crossfire because of the said job. Holy shit.

I repost these pictures because now that I watched episode 11 I can see clearly Rei’s gaze toward Kazuki : a reassuring one , even if Kazuki seems conflicted and sad Rei is not.He is looking at him like silently saying “It’s gonna be alright Buddy”
And I think given the way the anime is ending ; it is going , indeed , to be alright for their little family 💕
