but latex balloons are biodegradable. latex comes from a plant. they degrade faster than leaves do

woah! I didn’t know that, actually! the 6 month - 4 year lifespan that google is telling me they have is way less than I thought it was. that’s definitely some good news

mostly I just didn’t want the balloon to blow back out to sea and get eaten by marine life

hey there Wunkolo my boy - have any Photoshop plug-ins by any chance? Ever dabbled in that sort of thing? I'd be really interested to see what you come up with in terms of automation and animation

Haven’t messed with it no! First thing I’d make if I did mess with PS is make a built-in stroke stabilizer and a more Sai-like pixel brush

-Actually from the looks of the SDK documentation I cannot do either of these things

How can I even get back into art if I've given up on my abilities and find the overall process meaningless and unfun; with the fear of not making anything worth while hanging over me?

The answer to a difficult problem is often a simple (albeit not easy) one. If you’ve fallen off the horse then you just have to get back on. 

Falling into a slump happens and it’s brought on by the following:

Lack of reward. (e.g. no positive reinforcement, no positive social interaction).

Harsh self-criticism. (e.g. Trying to take leaps towards a goal instead of taking steps.)

Lack of challenge. (e.g. Stagnancy from drawing in the comfort zone- such as only drawing heads or only eyes.)

Comparing and despairing. (e.g. Comparing yourself to seasoned professionals whose lives depend on the income their art brings).

First things first, you need a positive environment in order to thrive. Artists who don’t have friends to draw with, or who don’t know any friends who like to draw similar things– will feel isolated and outcast. Making friends can be hard and it takes time, but ultimately you need their presence to strengthen you and help you grow. (SOME, not all, of my favorite peers in alphabetical order who draw in the vein of things I like: @alienrat-art​, @bugartist​, @cyborgzloth​, @evan-bryant​, @guitarbeard​, @halleyjevelandart​, @mynkothra​, @septi-art​, @sevsartstuff​, @spaghettibastard​)

And a positive environment also includes surrounding yourself with objects (or posters/print outs) that inspire you. (This is my tower of trade paperback comics topped by kaiju).

This is also probably the most important thing that is the solution to most problems: completing a sketchbook.

The artist standard is a black hardbound. Like this one:

But you can make do with any other book like a composition graph:

You have to complete one whole sketchbook (fill every page) by the end of 1 month (31 day’s time). That’s like 4 sheets of drawing per day.

You fill up one after the other but you will immediately see progress after 1 book. Each book is like a level in art skill. In my lifetime I’ve filled up tons of composition books and black sketchbooks.

To accomplish this, you have to abandon the idea that all the art you make has to be “worth while” or meaningful. And most importantly, practice and have fun, and draw lots of different random things.

Only by doing mundane doodling and sketching can I move on to other things such as this:
