in some ways i think for a lot of queer trans men its a reaction to the fact that the mainstream views trans men as Only parts of the lesbian community, which isnt to say theres not a history of trans masc lesbians but as a gay trans man myself it feels Bad sometimes that the only time ppl ever talk abt trans men is when theyre also talking abt lesbians bc like. im not one! i never have been! i have no relation to the lesbian community other than in solidarity and friendship so it feels bad that a lot of ppl assume that i as a trans man have more in common with lesbians than i have in common with cis gay men. but then a lot of young queer trans men become misogynistic and lesbophobic bc of these feelings instead of dealing with their own dysphoria, and then a lot of them criticize anyone who points that out as transphobic :/ so its like. hey. stop hating women and blaming other parts of the lgbt community for the actions of transphobes perhaps

I get what you mean‚ anon. Idk if maybe you felt my venting applied to you but I assure you it doesn’t—“i have no relation to the lesbian community other than in solidarity and friendship” is exactly the way to go about it‚ and what makes me happy to see. The whole point is you don’t need to identify with someone’s exact experience to stand in solidarity with them. Of course you’ll have more in common with people who share your sexuality (and in some cases‚ your gender experience) than the transphobic concept of grouping people by AGAB. I myself have the same assigned gender as trans men and I’m trans myself but there are a lot of their experiences that I cannot relate to (straight and queer ones both).

At the end of the day‚ like you said‚ it’s about not letting your personal baggage morph into bigotry. You can show support‚ affection even‚ for gay women without either buying into transmisogynistic ideas of ““afab solidarity”” OR having a fatal identity crisis and i know this because plenty of transmascs (hi friends!) do it easily.

And it has to be said that the bar is really low!! The only people who’ll ever get on your case for your lack of support (or refusal to acknowledge our existence) are sapphics themselves‚ and even then many of us in our own communities tend to let it slide. So it’s about… you know‚ maybe bring attention to lesbophobia every now and then‚ or engage with our media‚ or get excited for us when we’re celebrating good news/progress. Not much to it.

hello wenjamin I'm a trans guy and I was JUST getting comfortable using the word gay to describe myself w/o the fear of being seen as a straight girl but now I think I might be bi. I think part of the reason I wasnt sure is because I worry if I'm with a girl people will assume I'm a lesbian and misgender me. Which fuckin sucks. 1) youre not a straight girl because youre a bi trans dude (hey solidarity!). i get this problem also bc im afraid people will think my gf and i are a wlw couple when actually im a guy and theyre nb woman-aligned. im also attracted to guys and im constantly being bombarded with “oh are you straight??” when im just... a bi trans guy. dont let cisnormative society get to ya my dude. you got this!

2) you can date someone and still be an exclusionist/inclusionist as long as it doesnt bring up any real problems. like im friends with inclusionists but i prefer exclusionists, but that doesnt affect my relationship bc i’ll be damned if the opinions of cishets ruin my relationships lol
