this is not going to be articulate but i've been thinking about it.

i feel like a lot of people believe they're winning some kind of morality olympics by not consuming any media that contains dark or disturbing imagery and that's. really stupid to me. dark and disturbing media has been present since the beginning of storytelling and watching or reading it does not automatically mean you condone everything that happens within the story. people watched fucked up shows and read fucked up books and watch fucked up movies all the time and for a variety of reasons. it also does not mean the author condones everything happening in their story. in THIS case (made in abyss) it does bc the author is a fucking pedophile. however, if i watch a slasher horror movie, it does not mean i condone going out and killing people for funsies. if i read a book in which the main character is a soldier in a war going on, i'm not pro-military. if i watch a show where someone is abused in their backstory, i'm not enjoying their abuse or fetishizing it or anything like that. i'm watching a story play out. some of you sound straight up puritanical with your arguments and it doesn't bode well for media literacy or censorship of the media. the show doesn't need to be banned and people who have watched it shouldn't be getting fucking death threats. it's a fucked up cartoon made by a gross people but how many of you even knew about the author before this happened? i've been aware of the show since it came out and this is the first time i'm hearing most of this. do you research the entire plot of something as well as everyone involved in its creation before you watch it to make sure absolutely nothing bad happens or do you go into it like a normal person, to discover the story?

- I don't think Blitzo is absolutely amazing at cooking as he never really bothered to learn, but he can make simple things. Usually just buys you dino nuggets and some other stuff and calls it a day, but he does make cute little scenes with the food- Like a dino on the beach using mashed potatoes. Probably somehow gets really mushy with it, I mean like makes ketchup hearts.

- When you're younger however, he's the absolute gentlest. Has a gentle grip on your bottle and your head as he tilts it back to feed you, probably even spoils you with strawberry milk sometimes. Also when he buys you baby food, he does infact try some- he swears it was to encourage you! (Also he was curious but- hey don't giggle at him!)

- If you can't tell, Blitzo takes every chance to tell you he loves you and he always, always means it. He loves taking care of you, and has no shame in your regression like mentioned before. He will brag about you being the cutest baby though, gives children dirty looks still. "..Not as cute as my baby."

- This also means you have him wrapped around your finger, You want that thing?? He's bought two and they are in your favorite colors. You can get away with breaking rules- although Blitzo isn't a strict caregiver so there's not alot of rules to break, minus bedtime.. But he won't punish you, he'll probably just make you sleepy by cuddling or warm milk- or sleepy time music as he calls it.

- Blitzo doesn't stop swearing around you, however he doesn't make any lewd jokes and he will fight anyone who does around you. Poppy and SFW Spaces - Part 2: About that time that Poppy posted lewd furry art in a SFW channel...

The last time this came up, I didn't want to overwhelm what was already a big post, but now that this is coming up again, it's reminded me to post the follow-up conversation from the server.

Because you know that there was a follow-up conversation.

TLDR:

Two server members spoke up about how uncomfortable the post made them.

Poppy has a conversation where she disagrees in a troubling way, then steps aside to allow for a mod to handle the disagreement (to avoid conflicts of interest).

Saige, who Poppy has disclosed on-stream that she is an FP for, stepped in to essentially parrot whatever Poppy had said (to, you know, avoid conflicts of interest).

First off, I want to make it clear that Saige is in an entirely impossible situation. Please do not attack or judge her for her place in this situation. Instead, look at it my way: as proof of what nearly a year under Poppy's control will do to you.

Anyway.

I'm feeling spicy and like digging into something, so here's Poppy telling a minor that they're wrong for feeling uncomfortable over her shoving her fursona's sexually posed, barely clothed ass in their faces.

Then we're going to talk about their server rules and how the subject of minors and NSFW content is handled. I'm going to properly dig in here, so strap in [EDIT: we're at over 2100 words, so I'm serious].

Note the immediate defensiveness and invalidation. Describing what's clearly erotic art as "cute."

"There are even more explicit versions and I didn't post those, so that makes these fine." You can use relativity to justify anything. This is not a real argument. Pro tip: always be cautious of relativity when it's being used to argue against your feelings.

"We get into stuff that's NSFW on our streams and we don't restrict that." I'm pretty sure this isn't the own you think it is, Poppy. This is you telling on yourself.

And then...

"we expect people who come there to be mature, the same is true about the server"

I... hm.

1. Why do you expect people who come to your streams to be mature?

YOU HAVE LITERALLY NO CONTROL OVER THAT. It's a mental health political drama channel that gets suggested to people who watch similar content. If the statistics you shared a while back are still true, less than 2% of your audience is minors, but that's who marking your channel as mature is for.

Even ignoring the barely censored lewd art for now, you discuss a lot of really adult topics on your streams. These are the rules for a reason, Poppy, and you don't get to decide that they just don't apply to you. IF YOUR CHANNEL IS FOCUSED ON ADULT TOPICS YOU MARK IT AS "MATURE." FULL STOP.

You have ZERO CONTROL over who wanders into your channel. It isn't your decision as to whether your videos show up in front of minors. You are fucking wrong here.

Fix it, or leave it as more evidence of how little you actually care about protecting minors from adult content.

2. Why do you expect people who come to your server to be mature?

You explicitly position it as a place for vulnerable, traumatized, mentally ill, BPD (etc) queer people to go. You have stated that you want your community to be a safe place for the people from Lily Orchard's community to go once they're out. You know that that community contains a lot of minors, many of whom are there for content about cartoons. Why are you outright assuming that these people are mature enough to handle this content? Because if that was really a major priority for you, Poppy, I would think that the absurdly low bar of DON'T SHARE YOUR FUCKING LEWD ART IN SPACES WITH MINORS would be one you'd gladly clear to make sure that those people were entering a safe, friendly, non-sexualized space. You know, because a major problem with LO is her being unable to keep her fetishes and sexuality out of minor-inclusive spaces. I've been researching some things recently and you'd be surprised how deep the parallels go.

And on one last note about this one, I think it's really funny that Poppy tried to act like the other sections of the server are some big secret. "What separate area" come on, now. lol

First off, I want to reiterate and stress that Saige is in an entirely impossible situation. Note how she's basically just agreeing with Poppy. I was torn on whether to include who this mod is, but the context of her relationship with them is important to show just how much of a conflict of interest this is. Having your BPD partner, who you are an FP for, be a mod for situations like this?

What was that about conflicts of interest, Poppy? Why is Saige moderating your conflicts on the server, as a mod?

Can you imagine, as a person with BPD, being put in the position to moderate disagreements over your FP's inappropriate posts in the server that she owns?

Anyway.

Looking at these as Poppy's talking points because I don't trust that they didn't discuss this behind the scenes before Saige posted her "verdict."

1. "This isn't harmful for minors to see."

According to who?

2. "On this server, we don't shy away from difficult interactions."

This is pure, basic Foundation propaganda (Poppaganda, heh). They say this, but all you have to do is look at the receipts for my interactions with them to see just how good they are at dealing with conflict. "But that was personally in dating" yes, I know, but believe me, it goes far beyond that. It's just how they handle their personal affairs. I've seen and have extensive evidence for it, I just can't share it yet.

3. "You are responsible to some degree for managing your interactions with an environment."

This is one of those abuses of therapy-speak. Poppy and Zena have been increasingly weaponizing certain definitions, particularly the notion of "boundaries." While boundaries are by definition things that you can state will be your response to specific actions and circumstances, you only have to look at Poppy's Twitter right now to see how that works out in practice.

There's no avoiding that unless the rules of the space itself change.

Oh wait. Also. About that second part. There's plenty in my previous post, but here's another fun one from last year that someone sent me today.

Maybe they changed the header in the year since, but uh... yeah. It's still in Safe, where there are minors. To be fair, the images were spoilered, but uh... yeah. Again, this is in the "Safe," minors-present category.

2) People 23 and older can't act inappropriately towards minors. Check age roles to see if this is okay.

This comes across as weird for number of reasons. For one, this isn't something that should just apply to minors and 23+; anyone who feels uncomfortable with an interaction should be reporting it to the mods.

For another, while it makes sense to warn people that there are minors in the server and to mind themselves accordingly, why is the age gap specified like that? Why does it make a difference if they're 23 or 20? If they're making a minor uncomfortable, it's a problem!

I could say more, but it's just... weird.

I want to first talk about that last bit because I know she'll be offended at the very suggestion that it isn't true; I truly do believe that Poppy believes that this is true. Unfortunately, wanting to do something and believing you do something and actually doing that thing are very different things.

But let's talk about this age difference thing again.

Take a moment and think about this: whose perspective is this from?

At what point does someone start "considering the power dynamics in the age difference" when they're interacting with a 22 year old? Maybe it's something to consider if you're over 30, but I wouldn't blink at a 24 year old dating a 20 year old.

So whose perspective(s) (#nozzerasure) are the age-based categorizations of "old enough to date question mark" designed for?

Most servers I've seen either have NSFW stuff specifically sequestered to NSFW spaces, or they spoil NSFW stuff. Why wouldn't this server do that?

So what's my point?

What's all of this ultimately mean?

Firstly, I need to stress how NONE OF THIS IS EVIDENCE OF POPPY PURSUING MINORS IN "THAT" WAY. While her behavior is certainly concerning and inappropriate, I will not abide by any p*do-jacketing. If you're making any accusations like that, you'd better be bringing evidence, or at least a testimony.

Mainly, what this points to is a troubling pattern of behavior as far as her understanding of appropriate boundaries around sexual content. This directly impacts her ability to create truly SFW safe spaces for minors, especially minors who are emotionally/psychologically vulnerable or seeking refuge from sexually charged spaces.

Some of them may like being treated like adults, but that's not the point. The point is that it's not up to them. These are the rules for a reason.

Poppy, you may not believe that the rules should be this way, but please stop being so fucking stubborn. You're endangering minors with this behavior. All people are asking of you on this front is to be more restrained with your sexual stuff (including the "risque" stuff) in spaces where there are minors present.

Just exercise a little bit of self-control for the sake of making your server the safe space that you work so hard to convince people (including minors) that it is.

i was 15 when i watched made in abyss as well, finished the 1st season and promptly never touched it again because of what i learned about the author. From what ive seen from koreans they say that the version shown on korean tv is censored (which sounds plausible) which could mean that the weird parts that we skip may be cut out entirely(?dont quote me on that idk) soobin is on thin ice cause the 2nd season is worse and taeyong is in deep shit because i dont think there is any reason why someone should own the manga😟

I'mma preface this by saying I completely get everyone who couldn't stomach this series. It contains a lot of disturbing topics and at the end of the day, it's a horror series, of course not everyone is gonna be able to handle that, and again that's fine. But I can also say that this arc was surprisingly handled with a lot of care, wasn't fetishized nor glorified just... disturbing. Think of Outlast 2 or the ending of Amnesia:Rebirth.

TLDR:

Second season is way more disturbing but not as sexual in nature and Soobin most likely was talking about the fight scenes when saying how cool it was. And if he wasn't then who knows what he was yapping about, don't know him personally so I can't put words into his mouth unless he says something. As for Taeyong, can't defend him at ALL but calling him a p3d0 would still be a bit too much for me.

AND I wanna add after further investigation, Mingi said he didn't even watch it and instead dropped it because it was too much for him, so there's that.

I'm gonna have to explain the lore in order for you all to understand this FULLY, so heres a summary:

The arc introduces us to Vueko, a victim of trafficking who was thrown into the Abyss with the rest of the now villagers because she wasn't deemed as someone useful. So obviously, when she meets Irumyuui, who has been exiled from her village for not being able to give birth at the age of 8, she immediately takes her in. As a victim, she understands her, and the author explains how, through helping Irumyuui, Vueko is able to heal her own trauma and heal Irumyuui as well. It's extremely well written, and as a fellow victim, there was something so sweet about seeing someone heal with the help of another. Especially when that someone acted like a mother figure. But of course, this is the Abyss. The point of the Abyss is that despite you thinking there's some light at the end of the tunnel, there isn't. Wazukyan takes that away, and Irumyuuis wish backfires (think of it like the wishes in Madoka, you get what you want but at a cost), and she gets turned into a horrible monster. But despite everything, she's happy because to her, she's fulfilled her purpose.

This is the part that I could discuss for hours because to me, it was commentary on how young girls even nowadayas are convinced by others that 'they have to find a man one day' and how having no kids is looked down upon. Especially in 3rd world countries. I could write an entire essay, but we're not here to do that.

I can tell you immediately that none of this was fetishized nor glorified in an yway, it's just supposed to make you feel absolutely empty because again, author is really trying to push that "oh you think you got the good end of the stick? Think again!" The manga if FILLED with situations like this, from Rico's origins to Nanachis arc, the subplot of this entire manga is 'how far are you willing to go to survive?'. Think of it like Fire Punch. Disturbing? Yeah, I mean, even I had to drop it once they began talking about trafficking women. Once again, I am comparing it to Madoka Magica but far more gruesome. Nothing explicit was shown, Irumyuui's private parts were never exposed, and her giving birth was also never shown. Her transformation WAS shown, but it's your basic body horror, like in most Junji Ito works.

SO, obviously if you're not a fan of the horror/seinen genre this is deeply disturbing and fucked but after seeing games like Outlast 2 and Amnesia: Rebirth, I wasn't as disturbed PERSONALLY. Again, recommending this publicly might've not been the smartest idea because you really do have to be into the horror genre to be able to handle topics like that. Even I just had to sit in silence for a couple hours after reading that backstory cuz damn, it hits you right in the feels. And most of the manga past that part just has badass fight scenes and when people praise it, they usually talk about that. From what I saw it was well animated and lots of clips were shared on tiktok, twitter etc. So there's a big chance he was talking about that.

Now as for Taeyong... see now the reason I didn't mention him in the original post is because of that specific thing. Alright, so about the whole Made In Abyss situation, I shared some of my opinions here, but I've been looking into it more closely so I could finally make up my mind about it. I don't really stan any of the idols involved in this controversy except for Soobin, so he's the one I'll be talking about, but I guess some of this might be applicable to those who only mentioned watching the anime.

I'm putting this under a read more bc it's long as fuck but anyway. I'll probably repeat myself a lot but I'm just trying to organize my thoughts. If you plan on coming for my head please read the full thing first.

First of all, once again, the whole "he said he does NOT recommend it" argument is not valid for me at all. As I've said before, just the fact that he mentioned it as something he was enjoying at the time is enough of a recommendation to most fans. Let's stop using that as an argument.

I watched an interesting deep dive about the anime where she talks about the controversial content, and I also took the time to read some long comments people left under that video. From what I've gathered, most of the problematic content is used in a way to make you see it as wrong and fucked up, much like other pieces of media have done multiple times before. The biggest problem is the use of children in those scenarios. Even though it's for shock value, it seems to be something that most of the people who enjoyed MiA have a big problem with.

It also seems that 99.99% of the people who have enjoyed it, enjoyed it for the world building and the main plot (the main character going into the abyss to look for her mother). I've watched/read some reviews (not linking them bc they're in Portuguese) and most people only really talk about these aspects, and how scary some parts are. When the problematic parts are mentioned, it's to complain that they aren't necessary and shouldn't be there. They acknowledge it's problematic and make it clear they're uncomfortable with that. It's a general consensus that people didn't like the problematic parts and they agree that they should've been removed. I got the same type of reaction/opinion from my friend's friends who watched the anime in question.

I've seen multiple people saying the Korean version of the anime is heavily censored to remove all the pedophiliac content. I've seen multiple (Korean) people saying they've watched it and it had none of those things that are being brought to light. I've seen people claiming that many of the things that are being brought up are actually from the original manga and the movie (which allegedly wasn't even aired in SK). Reportedly the 15+ rated version was being aired (and highly popular) in SK at the time. And to be honest, like I said in previous posts, if you remove all the problematic parts and you enjoy scary stories, then the anime sounds like a great option to watch.

"Soobin said once he watched 18+ rated animes, therefore he was DEFINITELY watching the original version": I don't think that's something you can claim for sure. 18+ doesn't always mean sexual, too. Plus, apparently even the 19+ rated version of the anime is censored in SK to remove the problematic parts?? So idk.

Even if he were watching the 19+ version, like I said, I haven't seen anyone who enjoyed the anime and DIDN'T have a problem with those problematic parts. Everyone seems weirded out by it. Plus, from what I've gathered, the more """subtle""" problematic parts are things you only really notice if you're watching it critically.

What's getting to me the most is: 1) He mentioned it over a YEAR ago, and somehow NOBODY cared about it at the time. It was only brought to light NOW, and it's only now that people are seeing a problem with it and pointing out what's wrong with the source material — something that went over everyone's heads at the time. Wouldn't anyone point this out earlier? 2) Would he honestly come out and say he's enjoying the anime on a livestream to thousands of watchers if he were watching the original version with all the gross CP stuff? Being an idol (and the leader of one of the most prominent groups we have in 4th gen, under one of the biggest kpop agencies), he's usually very cautious with what he can and cannot say. We've seen it before, and that's enough for me to think it's most likely not the case.

"Nobody should be promoting the work of a pedophile", yes, you're right, I agree with you 100% there!!! But I don't personally run a background check on the creators of every single piece of media I consume, and most people don't either. I don't know jack about the writers of most of the stuff I've watched. I highly doubt he'd go researching the background of the writers of everything he watches, so I don't think it's fair to hold this against anyone as an argument to cancel them.

I'm all for holding our favs accountable, I think it's important to call them out. I've unstanned people before because of problematic behaviors that made me feel like they didn't deserve the time I was putting into them, things that made me feel disgusted by them. But most of us have watched shows/movies with problematic themes, and it doesn't mean we condone them in real life. Of course, there's a limit and I wouldn't support someone actively enjoying basically CP, but considering everything I've said above, I genuinely don't think that's the case. In my head it doesn't make sense at all for me to think he'd just be like "heyyy I like borderline CP content it's so interesting <3", considering how much BigHit/HYBE is always up their asses when it comes to maintaining a good image.

On the other hand, I still think he shouldn't have mentioned it. As he said it himself, it's disturbing (which is what that word translated as "provocative" meant), so even without all the CP stuff it's still not something he should've mentioned by name to an audience of mostly young fans, a majority of which are very impressionable. It's even worse if he was watching the 19+ version even if it's still allegedly censored in SK. If I remember correctly, he has mentioned animes without mentioning their names before (or maybe that was just once? I'm not sure), so he could've just done that.

However, I personally don't think there's enough reason for me to unstan him, at least for the time being. After doing research for hours on end and doing my best to think logically and objectively, it doesn't make sense for me to do that.

Of course, you are entitled to stop liking a celebrity for whatever reason, or even for no reason at all. It's your right, there's nothing wrong with it, and please don't let ANYONE tell you otherwise!!! But if you decide to unstan, please let's be level-headed about this and not go around throwing people under the bus without knowing the full story. You can call people out and dislike them without being disrespectful towards others. And please don't go around calling people pedophiles, that is a VERY heavy word that shouldn't be thrown around so lightly.

I did my research and I'm still reading/watching stuff about it, and I think it's important for everyone to do the same rather than jumping on an extremist bandwagon (be it to defend or to condemn anyone). It's not invasive at all, don't worry! And no, I'm not, at least for now. I actually wrote a very long post about this and saved it in my drafts because I'm still doing some research on the whole controversy and I wanna have enough information about it before I post it. But basically with so many people saying the korean version of the anime is heavily censored/edited, and with all the research I've done so far, I particularly don't think Soobin would just outright be like "hey so I'm watching this show and I'm really enjoying it even though it's super dark" if he were watching the version everyone has a problem with. He's the leader of one of the most popular groups we have in kpop right now and he's usually careful with what he can and cannot say (plus hybe is always watching them to make sure they don't taint their image), so it doesn't make much sense to me, especially considering he talked about it over a year ago but it has only become a problem now. Wouldn't anyone have done or said something about it before? I have enough reasons to believe he was watching a censored version of it, and although I still think he shouldn't mention the anime on a livestream (bc even without all the cp stuff it's still a really dark and disturbing story, and he has a LOT of fans who are too young for that), I'm not gonna bash him and treat him like a criminal. I'm against blindly defending people, but I'm also against blindly condemning them, which is why I'm taking my time to read about this and watch some videos to get a better understanding of what's going on. I'm keeping him out of my blogs for the time being just to be safe though!

I saw a curious exchange of "how to translate 'pardon my french' into Spanish" and there were different solutions coming from different countries, let me show you a couple:

Option number 1 sounds very polite but it already has a strong difference with the English one: "you *will* excuse [my language]". It feels like a threat, which more or less is the same as in English. In Spanish I'm not asking for forgiveness, you are forced to accept what I say. Technically in English it's the same thing, the insult is coming anyways, but I apologise in advance, whereas in Spanish, it's just a warning.

Now, "Hablando mal y pronto" is not even an excuse to be polite. It literally means "Speaking badly and quickly" and it's usually used AFTER the bad words have been said. "Me suda la polla, hablando mal y pronto" [Literally: It makes my dick sweat, speaking badly and quickly - Translation: I don't give a shit, if you'll pardon my french].

You could think that this second option is not a good translation because it doesn't convey exactly the same meaning, but there are cultural differences to note. Particularly: some Spanish speaking countries use a lot of slang, insults and swearing in everyday language to the point that it's not perceived as unpolite or aggressive. It's just a way of expressing yourself and nobody will take offense. And if somebody takes offense, it's their problem, why do they care more about the superficial words than they care about the intent or the message itself?

In English, and particularly in the US, swearing is really frowned upon. Look at all the tv shows, series and films that censor swearing. I have never seen that in European tv or many Spanish speaking shows either. I still remember when I watched Kitchen Nightmares US edition (I knew the Spanish version first) and people stopped Ramsey to tell him to watch his language. They literally didn't listen to him or got distracted or offended by his swearing to the point of changing the conversation. That has never happened in the Spanish version where swearing is all over the place. Nobody in their right mind would use swearing as a form of shifting the conversation or ignore what's being said, people would call you out if you do. Nobody really notices the swearing in Spanish.

So here the decision to make between this two option is do I want to be closer to the original language and culture or do I want to get closer to the meta language and culture? What fits better in this context?

Digimon Adventure (Manga) - Vol. 5 (Final volume)

Okay, now that I've finished the manga (or, manhua I guess), I can safely say: don't bother! Reading this was a chore. The only thing I got out of it was the occasional nice bit of art or cheesy dialogue to laugh at. Other than that, they completely butchered the pacing/storytelling/essentially any charm the anime had. It's all par for the course with these kinds of money hungry releases.

Ch. 29

-Pinochimon calls TK "the boy in the ridiculous hat" which made me really look at TK's hat for the first time lol. It actually is kind of weird looking. My brain always read it as one of those winter hats with ear flaps, but giving it a closer look it's more like a hat that a cleric would wear in a JRPG or something. Why does it have a gem on it?

-Pinochimon's gun isn't censored in the manga! They didn't show TK holding a gun though, so I guess the original JP anime is still the most hardcore viewing experience lol

Ch. 30

-I simultaneously dislike the "the group breaks up" part of the story but it also feels necessary. It would be pretty unrealistic if everyone was just blindly gung-ho about being the "chosen children" for the whole series, so I like that it shows the inner doubt/turmoil.

-I had completely forgotten about that "spirit talks through Kari" bit. I don't think they ever fully explain what that is...? Very contrived.

Ch. 31

-Sadly they killed of Pinochimon in like two seconds which means we don't get to see his fight with MetalEtemon. That was like the only good part about Etemon coming back!

-For whatever reason, they decided to call the mecha version of Pinochimon's house "Housemon." Sure, why not. The part never really made sense anyways. I double checked the digimon fan wiki and the house is not considered a digimon in the anime. Continuity!

Ch. 32

-If Leomon can digivolve into SaberLeomon due to being "bathed in the light of the digivice," then there's no reason the kids shouldn't go around trying that on all of their ally digimon. Just sayin'

-In one panel, Machinedramon looked like he had a huge dick lol. I had to google a character reference to realize that it was his knee, oops...

Ch. 33

-This chapter was just one (or rather two) big battles. The action and drama was somewhat ruined by the cheesy dialogue. Tai literally says "Guys, rage against the machine!" and Machinedramon says "deus ex machina, fool!" What is this, an abridged series??

-WarGreymon looks pretty goofy with his armor shattered at the end there. I don't remember that visual being in the anime.

Ch. 34

-This chapter was terrrrible. They shoved like 5 episodes of content into 20-ish pages and nothing had any emotional impact. The whole "Matt and Gabumon in a cave" bit was especially weak. Matt's like "I'm sad," Gabumon says "you're not yourself!" and then Matt's like "Oop, you're right, I'm fine!" in about 3 panels. There's also a narrator textbox being like "we later found out that some evil force made Matt feel that way." Total waste of time. If they're not going to treat the emotional beats with respect, don't bother even adapting them.

-The fact that they gave Pinocchimon little voodoo dolls of the characters and then Piedmon has keychains that look pretty much the same. Pretty redundant...

-We were cheated out of LadyDevimon in manga form :'(

Ch. 35

-Dull, rushed, anticlimactic and devoid of emotion. I sincerely hope no one read this manga before watching the anime, that would probably ruin the whole series for them lol.

-Since this was written post 02 Gennai is like "bye kids, the next batch of digidestined will take care of the rest!" I feel like that goes along with my whole "digidestined have to be a certain age and then they graduate" theory. Either that or the digital world is just nice and doesn't want to trouble the same kids twice? Who knows...

Ride Like The Wind - 2018 --> 2019 --> 2020

Yesterday (May 10 2023, for those of you playing at home) marked four years since the final episode of the Australian version of Pointless aired.

While it's fair to say that it wasn't a particularly popular adaptation - it didn't rate particularly well and it even got axed twice - this quiz show had such a strong hold of my heart for the ten months it was on air, I look back on it now and it's like looking back on an intense and prolonged fever dream.

And I'll admit, I wasn't really a fan at the start. I grew to love the UK original from what I'd seen on the ABC, and seeing Ten's attempt with its condensed format and commercial breaks was too jarring at first. But then I saw a call for audience members. I hadn't been to a recording of anything for a long time at that point, and I'd never been in an audience for a proper quiz show with actual cash prizes so I thought, "Hmm. This could be interesting."

I went along to a recording on August 29 2018. And friends, I was instantly hooked. I'd end up going to ten recordings and watched a total of seventeen episodes get made. Every single one of those recordings was a lot of fun, and it gave me a much needed reprieve from the horrible shit that was going on in my life at the time.

The first image up there was something I doodled in my daily drawing diary to mark the fact I went along to that first recording. If I remember correctly, I actually drew this a few days later, and I was largely relying on memory of what Mark and Andrew looked like as I didn't have any good reference pictures. I put it up on my "art" Insta account, taking care to not explicitly tag anything that could have anyone from the show actually finding it.

Mark found it anyway. He gave it a like. I freaked out.

But that gave me a spark. I thought if my (what I thought was shit) doodle was enough to get a like from one of the hosts, what if my art was actually good? So across the next six months, I'd go to more recordings, fall more and more in love with the show, actually apply to be a contestant (my Pointless friend and I made it to the auditions but we didn't make it onto the actual show), and I'd find myself doodling a lot of AU!Pointless related things throughout my workday.

In hindsight, I think the show was all I let myself think about. Work was starting to get worse, and I was hideously stressed and anxious and probably incredibly depressed - AU!Pointless was my escape from all of that.

February 8 2019 was the day it was announced the show would be axed due to low ratings. The recording on February 15 would be the last. I took the news pretty badly. Very badly, to be honest. I felt like I was losing a friend. I remember being in the audience for that final recording and trying my best not to totally bawl my eyes out when Mark and Andrew said their final goodbyes to camera.

The second image is a second, Copic-coloured version of a pencil drawing I made to commemorate that final recording. I posted it to both Insta and Twitter at 6:30pm on May 10 2019, just as the final episode finished airing. Mark thanked me for being "so wonderfully supportive" and told me he loved the drawing. He then shared it on his Insta a few days later, thanking me as a "superfan".

My entire year was made, right there and then.

The third image was something I drew on my then relatively new iPad, and posted on May 10 2020 to mark one year since the last episode aired. It's one of my all-time personal favourite things I've drawn.

I still fondly think about AU!Pointless and just how much joy it gave me in the brief time it was on air. But more importantly - and it only hit me recently - if it weren't for this kooky dinnertime quiz the network censors somehow forgot about and how much it did consume me, I honestly don't think my artistic ability would be anywhere near where it is these days. If it weren't for the praise and attention I received back then, I might not have been motivated enough to keep going and to keep improving my skills.

And for giving me that motivation and that sense of achievement back then, I am eternally grateful.

As to why I've named these pieces "RIde Like The Wind"? The Christopher Cross song of the same name was playing in the studio before the last episode was recorded. I'll probably forever associate that song with this show now, to be honest.

apple completely censoring tumblr to the point where you can't even say words that aren't even sexual like soap or pipe is the beginning of the end for tumblr’s usability and user experience. the process already started with the Dec 17 ban and recently with the overexposure of ads. but pretty soon, apple is gonna make tumblr unusable. it's not like virizon cared about making the site functional when they owned it, and automatic/wordpress (current owners) definitely don't give a shit about tumblr now.

everywhere else on the internet, content is heavily monitored and censored. you'll get banned if you say anything that's against tos. sometimes that's good, as it gets rid of all the nazis. other times it's terrible, when people abuse the reporting ai to ban normal people. the whole banning system is unpredictable, so to be safe, people need to censor themselves on twitter and tiktok and facebook and ig and youtube. they can't say "kill", they have to say "unalive". they can't talk about violence, so they have to sugarcoat real world events. they can't swear, talk about racism or sex or history, or even acknowledge that the world is a fucked up place, because "kids use this app". tumblr was one of the last safe places on the internet where you could threaten to kill the president without having the fbi show up to your house.

but with this new apple shit, tumblr is becoming more like every other site online. any post that contains a word on a constantly expanding list is hidden from ios users. any blogs marked as "explicit" (which is also a huge issue btw) are unaccessible by apple users. not straight up banning people, but still preventing access to the real tumblr for those users. now over a third of tumblr’s userbase is either stuck on a completely sanitized version of tumblr, has to use the web browser version on their phone, or just cut off from tumblr entirely.

the internet used to be a place of togetherness and inclusiveness and content sharing and entertainment and fun. now it's mostly corporate garbage and ads. companies love ads. and to run ads effectively, they need as many people as possible to see them. and to do that, the places they advertise have to be family friendly so everyone can use them. that's what all of these sites are doing. banning creativity and expressiveness so they can force you to watch more ads. I understand that there's server costs. I understand that the employees need to eat. but there are so many bugs that haven't been fixed in years that it seems like @staff is getting paid to do fuck all, and instead wasting their time making stupid design decisions to distract us from them selling out.

what does this current situation say about the future of tumblr and the internet as a whole? I don't really know. if things continue as they are, more people will leave tumblr for newer sites, or twitter once tumblr becomes just as unusable as it (might as well use the more popular shitty site if they're both equally shit). eventually, within 5 or 6 years, tumblr will shut down after server costs are too high, and unless users take the time to archive everything, nearly two decades of internet history will be erased forever. I'd give it until 2035 before the internet (and by extention the vr world / metaverse / matrix) becomes so riddled with ads that it becomes completely unusable. unless, of course, something changes with how advertisements work. whether that be a new law that makes it so ads have to be less distracting or optional, or even just some sites refusing to run advertisements at the cost of user membership fees. one of those seems extremely unlikely, and the other sounds equally shit.

the internet sucks ass. I just want to return to 2010 playing club penguin and browsing early tumblr and early watching minecraft youtube videos and playing flash games on newgrounds.

He met her in the woods. This was back in the 1800s. She was a slave girl in a European village. She had been sold off by her parents to work for others, and she was beaten and bruised as a kid.

At some point, a wealthy family bought her as a servant, and they also ab*sed her. She was mistreated repeatedly, but she stayed because they provided for her.

She fell in love with the family's son, so they beat her and tossed her out into the woods by the lake, covered in dirt and bruises. Her clothes were tattered and b⸸oodstained too.

Seeing she had nowhere to go, she lived outside in the woods by the lake. The girl had to make the most of it while she was by herself. She took whatever she could find for food and clothes. Most times, she wore thin cotton dresses, and they were filthy and worn out. She used to sleep outside on the grass fields and by the trees. 

Now when Yuma met her he was out in the woods one day in the evening (he was a vamp at this point) and it was by the lake.

And since there was no other way to clean herself the girl always used the lake as a way to clean herself up. So like every other time she stripped from her clothes and swam for a bit.

Now I picture that Yuma was walking by the lake and he heard some splashing noises and so he took a look from afar. He saw a girl swimming in the lake. He eventually got closer to the lake to see but she still hadn’t noticed that someone was watching her.

It wasn’t until she came up to get air that he noticed she was topless in front of him.

Of course, here she’d scream and he'd just be annoyed, mostly cause he just doesn't care if she's n@ked.

"Damn woman, quit screaming!" He'd say, covering his ears.

Yuma saw how this girl only hid behind the boulder that was big enough to cover her n@kedness.

"Here. Put this on." He'd say handing her the dress.

Instead of listening she just watched him seeing that she wasn't sure to trust him.

"Look you can't hide in the lake the whole time. You'll catch a cold."

After changing and slipping on her dress which clung to her wet body she walked away to gather her things.

“Hey, are you lost or something?” Yuma would ask fighting the urge to help or not. “You shouldn’t be out here on your own. These woods ain’t safe at night.” He added on.

Seeing she didn't respond he got annoyed and raised his voice a bit. “Hey, I’m talking to you, the least you could do is answer me?”

She stopped knowing that if she didn’t answer he might not leave her alone. She looked down, her hair in her face a bit as she mumbled, “I’m fine. Don’t need anything.” She shivered from the cold and the possibility of this going all wrong.

It seemed like she was upset after answering him because she ended up walking away from him.

Seeing this, Yuma decided to watch her to see where she was actually going. Something about her just seemed off.

So he watched her and saw that she slept outside beside a tree and he just felt bad for her bc he knows what that is like. The next morning he waited at the lake and she ended up being there, washing some things that she had to wash. 

He startled her and told her to shut up about it.

“You shouldn’t sneak up on someone like that!”

“Ya, well you don’t really notice your surroundings that well.” 

She scoffed, “Why are you following me?” She asked, still not looking at him.

“I brought you something, I know it’s not much but you probably haven’t seen one of these in a while.” He’d say crouching down to her level to give her the apple in his hand.

She was hesitant to take it bc she was worried she’d get in trouble bc she was never allowed to actually eat better food when she was a slave to that previous family.

“Hey, it’s not poisonous. I grew it myself.” His response was honest and so she took the apple and placed it in the pocket of her dress.

“Thank you, sir.” She said, she was trying to show her gratitude by addressing him since she was used to being people’s slave.

Yuma was taken back by it and felt hella awkward. “Look, I’m not your master or anything, so don’t say things like that!”

“But then how’d you grow this? You have to be well off to own a field.”

“I like to garden.” He’d say looking down at her as her beat hands scrubbed the cloth. She nodded at this and understood.

“Do you have a name?” Yuma waited for her to answer.

“A name?”

“Yeah, you a foreigner or somethin’? Cause it sounds like you don’t understand some stuff I’m saying.”

“Ah, I just, I don’t really have a name . . . ” She practically whispered, “I don’t have a birthday either.”

She might have a spring name or something sweet like Juliette or Yulianna. But I think Yuma will give her a name (I’ll talk about it further down).

“Huh, it’s a shame  . . .  I’m Yuma.” 

“Y . . . Yuma?” She’d trail off in thought. “How do you spell that?” She looked at him in utter confusion but also curiosity.

“So you never went to school either ay?”

“I used to go to reform schools but I didn’t stay long enough. But I learned the alphabet thanks to someone I know.” She smiled to herself thinking of the boy she loved and how he helped her with reading on the days his parents weren’t around. 

“Damn, you really are dense.”

There was silence between them, even tho he technically insulted her she just decided to ignore it but Yuma couldn’t settle for less. He took a stick and started writing his name in the dirt.

“Alright, I’m only gonna show ya once. So look here.” He said cutting the silence. She had finished cleaning and put the clothes into a basket. Hearing this she walked over to him to look at what he wrote.

“. . . y-u . . . ?” The girl traced her fingers on the engraved letters, struggling to remember the next letters.

“‘m-a’. Tch, man, that person who taught you surely didn’t do a great job.” He degraded, even tho that’s not what he really wanted to say to her.

This hurt her feelings, causing her to frown. “At least, he was kind to me.”

Yuma focused more on his senses and was able to pick up the scent of b⸸ood from her. And decided to help her seeing he knew that she wasn’t healing. He assumed she had more than just bruises on her body judging by her scent. He could smell b⸸ood and that her flesh wasn’t healing. So he took matters into his own hands and brought her home wherever he and his brothers were staying at.

He was hoping Ruki could help him but he wasn’t there so he just had to put his skills to use in order to help her. Luckily he knew a thing or two and so he got her to shower and he did his best in treating her. 

Considering he needed to know where she was injured he had to have her show him but bc it was all over her body she didn’t want to. And knowing how Yuma is so shameless he just started to unbutton her dress to see where the cuts were but they had a bit of argument. But overall he did his best to help. 

Yuma made her stay because he told her she needs to rest and plus Ruki didn’t care but he did want him to keep an arm's distance because he could get attached. Although rather than getting better she started to feel worse because her wounds were infected. Yuma felt bad for her seeing how much she twitched in pain with the side effects of the healing medicine Ruki had tried to put on her in order to help.

Ruki had to tell Yuma that he had to let her go because she was too weak to live at this point.

“C’mon man there’s gotta be something.”

“Yuma, you and I both know her body is rotting. Her scent has changed since she came here.”

“I know . . . but I don’t want to tell her she’s dy!ng. She's young, man. She could have a life.” 

She’d be lying on his bed barely on the verge of being awake anymore but her persistent coughs stirred her awake constantly. When she saw Yuma come in and sit next to her, she smiled, “Thank you.”

He looked at her with his brows furrowed, “For what? It’s not like I saved you.”

“No, but you tried. That counts, even if I’m going to d!e---” She said stopping due to her having a coughing fit.

“You’re not dy!ng today.” It was the last thing he told her before having her turn.

He only managed to have this happen because he asked Karlheinz to spare her life and he said he would if he agreed to not love her.

She ended up living with Yuma and his brothers seeing she was supposed to.  When she first woke up and realized she didn’t d!e she was confused, Yuma was the first person she saw when she was awake and he tried to explain, but she didn’t accept what he told her.

He taught her how to feed which didn’t go very well seeing that she didn’t want to. Yuma gave up trying to teach her and asked Ruki for help instead seeing he had a more gentle approach it worked.

She didn’t have much of a wardrobe so he took her out so she could buy fabric and sew herself some dresses. He even paid for it bc he felt bad and he wanted to give her something to wear. 

I picture that when she was done making them she tried one on and showed it to him. He thought it looked good and was surprised she could be so handy.

Although she is in the times when girls are neglected Yuma doesn’t do that to her, he treats her as an equal in fact all of his brothers do too. Yuma’s honestly a little too tough on her but considering she was a slave she’s used to it. She doesn’t even complain about it. 

She didn’t get along with him at first bc of what he did but the more she thought about it and got to know him she wasn’t upset.

She had to help out with chores and he typically did them with her unless one of his brothers was already helping. Apart from their plantation they also took care of animals because they are wealthy and back then people used to buy land and make a living off of animals and what they grew so she’d help out with animals. 

And I think she used to feed the pigs and Yuma thought it was cute and I think that’s where he got this “little pig,” (this is not canon it’s just an idea I had).

One time Kou tried giving her all the work because he was being lazy and Yuma was so upset that he got into a fight with him. She tried to stop them and she only got hurt in the process.

He felt so guilty for bruising her, that he apologized and stuck a sugar cube in her mouth. She didn’t know what to say because she felt it was strange.

She’s also never had sugar so she was surprised about the taste.

Yuma made her work in the garden with him sometimes when he needed extra help. And honestly, he gets mad if she makes a mistake. Although she usually knows what to do. 

He likes to watch her work because she’s gentle and even nice to the small animals and doesn’t k!ll the insects.

I could see she doesn’t like to eat tomatoes so when he shoved one in her mouth she made a face before swallowing. And he was upset that she didn’t like them.

Yuma was mean to her for a good while since he’s kind of harsh and so I’m not surprised if he called her stupid/ other insensitive things a bunch of times to the point where he made her cry. It was in the kitchen when she just made a small mistake or something and his brothers saw everything.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to--”

“You know you really are stupid, you ever wondered if that’s why that family threw ya out!? You can be so dense--”

“You’re crying? You gotta be kidding me!”

“D-don’t you ever feel bad for what you say to people? . . . I have feelings t-too you know?” She said between hiccups. “But maybe you forgot what that feels like because you haven’t been human in so long but it really hurts. A-and I just d-don’t understand . . . if you h-hate me so much then why did you turn me!? Am I really that h-horrible?  . . . W-why didn’t you just let me d!e?” She sobbed in her hands uncontrollably leaving him a little shocked and for his brothers to scold him, especially Kou since he took a liking to her and felt bad for her.

Eventually, they made up and were a bit more honest with each other. It’s honestly when he started to be a little weird bc he liked her and she kinda felt strange about it seeing he was nice to her. Well, he did his best.

There was one time they were outside in town and she was cold and he put his rustic sweater on her bc he said it was too hot anyway. So she wore it and smiled secretly finding it kinda funny bc he didn’t know how to be nice.

One time she made a cherry pie and he was watching her in the kitchen until Kou pointed it out.

“You’re watching her?”

“I’m waiting till she messes up.”

“Uh-huh, you know she’s better than Ruki.”

Kou has even pushed you two together because he knows what’s up. And Yuma’s mad at him for it. I think it’s because this is like the first woman he’s ever been serious about.

And tbh she’s kinda clueless about his feelings at first since she feels like it’d be to weird to imagine.

Because fall is harvest season he becomes extra busy in his garden which meant that he wanted her to help. I honestly see that she’d mess with him too.

I think she splashed water on him and it was a never-ending water fight.

He’d chase her around the garden sometimes.

Although when things got really strange he once k!ssed her while showing her how to harvest one of the plants. (depending on how you cut your plant when you need the leaves or flowers you can potentially stop the plant growth so you gotta be careful.)

He caught her completely off guard, so much that she just panicked and turned the other way even tho he just k!ssed her again thinking it was fun to mess with her.

He’d even ask her if she was embarrassed because he sucks.

Although she got him back when they were walking around in town and she k!ssed his cheek in front of his brothers.

It was kind of her way of confirming how she felt with the k!ss he gave her before.

Oh before I forget to mention since she doesn’t have a name she goes by because people always changed it he just called her little pig or you bc he didn’t know what else to call her. However when they were a couple he actually gave her, her name.

“Hey, you ever thought of giving yourself a name? It’s getting tiring just saying ‘you’ all the time.” He’d say looking at the new plants that were sprouting.

She sat on the bench in his garden weaving a basket, “Oh yeah, hmm I was thinking maybe something like Violet?” 

“Violet? You sure, you don’t really look like a Violet?” He disagreed thinking she should find a better name.

“How about ‘Poppy’?”

“Nah.”

“Rosemary?”

“You really wanna be named after a plant, little pig?” He chuckled.

“Well, all of the people I have served always asked me for a name and a lot of the times the only words I could get out of my mouth were names of plants or flowers since I work with them a lot and plus my parents never gave me a name because they thought I was never worthy of one and I’ve been to shy to give a real one.  . . . so, I don’t really know what name a girl could have . . . Hey, Yuma, what do you think should be my name?”

“You want me to choose?” He turned to look at her as he tended to his plants, his brows furrowed at this.

She stopped her weaving, holding the straw in her hands, “Yeah, what name do you think suits me?”

He walked over to her, taking a seat next to her, “Hmm, how about piglet?”

“Yuma, I’m being serious. You didn’t like what I suggested so what should my name be? It’s better if you choose.” She insisted, hitting his shoulder playfully.

“Alright, alright . . . how about, Y/n?” He’d ask brushing a strand of her hair behind her ear.

(If you don’t want it to be an x reader or you don’t like your name I really see him suggesting the name Juliette or even Yulianna but I mostly see Juliette).

“I like it.” She smiled at him. 

Since she has low literacy judging by the time this is taking place I think Ruki taught her but Yuma was the one to help her practice and he was a bit of a jerk sometimes. He was kinda hard on her too but if she did really well he’d give her a sugar cube.

Or he’d give her a day of no chores and take her anywhere she’d want to go in town. So it’s like going on a date.

On one of her outings, she saw that boy she used to like and his family. They tried to bother her and Yuma got mad and she kinda ended up telling him about it.

From then on he was kinda protective of her just a little more and slightly worried. He was mad that people did that to her too.

I’m not sure when he started to like her but once he realized it he tried to ignore it.

Here are what the pics mean in their relationship:

Hands--it kinda resembles their relationship in the beginning of how close they are but not close enough.

Hair with soap -- he’d wash her hair cause he likes to pamper her in that way.

He also just wants to join her in showering, so not surprised if they’ve gone skinny dipping in a lake tbh.

Girl and Iips -- In the pic she’s kinda sweaty so this just imagery of when she’s working hard and Yuma thinks she looks attractive with sweat coming down her neck from the sun and all that. This usually happens when she’s doing chores and hard labor. Since this was back in the 1800s and they have a house with a lot of land so it requires maintenance and the animals to take care of too.

Rustic Sweater girl and boy -- It’s his sweater but he gives it to her a lot of the time to stay warm. And he likes it on her. 

At some point, she was just stealing his clothes cause they were big on her.

Girl under a tree (exposed) -- Represents the first time she met him where she was n@ked and how she’s been n@ked in front of him various times. Mostly when she’s showering or changing. Although it's just cause he walks in on her a lot.

Autumn trees -- the season of when they met and their favorite time of year.

I also picture that she loves to jump in leaf piles and he just looks at her like she’s dumb to even tho he loves her.

Hands against the wall / intertwined -- His intimacy, he’s a rough guy, need to say anymore?

Pie -- She likes to bake and he likes watching her. And I think he likes pies because of her.

White linger*e -- He likes to see her in white and cute frilly things that are kinda girly cause he likes it on her.

Apart from this I think their love was pretty peaceful but things changed after a while and it was either because she d!ed or because he left her.

I see it mostly that he left her and it's not cause he didn’t love her he just didn’t want her to be part of Karlheinz’s plans and so he struck a deal with him to let her go.

And she was honestly just upset and hurt by him deciding for her. She was no longer in his life afterward. He actually left her without a word so that hurt because she never heard from him again.

So then she just had to move on and he did too. I don’t think she ever saw him again.

She still has that rustic sweater and never forgot about it.

so i'm planing this fic and like i say it's tommy-centric but it really isn't. and i'm thinking of having the captain be like a funky dragon lad and has anxiety and worships lady ianite but i have no idea how i'd write that so like help?

hey now. as much as im a bitch about tommy-centric fics. no shame in writing one if that's what you like!! as long as it's properly tagged you don't have to skirt around it or shy away. if you're writing something tommy-centric, own it!!!

that said, i can absolutely give some tips! ofc, the most obvious answer would be to watch some mianite eps, but i'm aware they can get extremely long when they're lore-heavy, so here's some tips!

don't be afraid to make him curse a bit!! especially if you're basing him off of his mianite version. current-day cc!jordan doesn't swear on-screen for monetization purposes, but when you think about it, he swears a LOT if you just replace his censors with the actual curse words they represent. don't shy away from having him have the mouth of a sailor at times (pun fully intended, considering he was a pirate!!)

as much as he can have his serious, badass moments, he's also just a fucking nerd. he gets on tangents easily, and takes hypotheticals WAY too seriously. yknow when people say ranboo goes on stream and just shows symptoms? jordan is fucking full of symptoms. just all of them at once. he laughs at his own jokes so hard his ribs hurt, even though literally no one else was laughing. his puns are bad enough to deal psychic damage.

you're on a good track by acknowledging he's just a ball of anxiety sometimes!! he. cares a lot about how people see him and how he comes off. not in the self-centered sense, just in the overall socially anxious sense. he cares ESPECIALLY about how ianite sees him. he lives to make her proud

oh! on that note! jordan doesn't really say ianite's name to her face often. or in general. he calls her "my lady" in the absolutely fondest tone known to man <3

overall, jordan is just. loyal to ianite to dangerous degrees. overall, she's a fairly reasonable goddess. she wouldn't order him to just kill someone for the sake of it. but if she did, he would do it without hesitation. if ianite told jordan to jump off a bridge he would do it before she even finished her sentence. she's sometimes put-off by this, but it's something she ends up getting somewhat used to

What I still can’t understand is why the hell isn’t just not liking subtitles ENOUGH for Lily?! She could just not like watching anime with subtitles and that would be fucking FINE. That would be absolutely okay, and nobody would give a shit because that is a perfectly non—controversial take to have! But NOPE, instead everybody who likes subs and listening to anime in its original Japanese audio just HAVE to be fucking “perverts” and “weebs” who “treat Japanese culture like a zoo”. (1/2)

Honestly, your guess is as good as mine on why she....just can't say, "I don't like subtitles", and move on. Like, no one would care. Its pretty common in anime you will find either subtitles lovers, dub lovers or a mixture of both. Like, I do get not liking sitting down for long for subtitles. I am the type who....has to do everything otherwise my brain goes to sleep, so sitting still for subtitles is pretty hard. But at the same time, I found I did enjoy YGO 5Ds with subtitles and cause its the non-dub, I saw the missing episodes 4Kids for some reason, cut out. Which you know, is a little more against Lily's argument on YGO fans complaining. Again, people don't just hate it because death scenes got cut. A whole fucking season of GX didn't get dubbed cause 4Kids wanted to go to 5Ds where again, MORE episodes got cut or skipped. But you know, perverts, am I right?

Honestly, I saw that take about the zoo and its...just really??? Lily really wants to fucking die on this hill. Because by implying dubs that erase anything Japanese and try to american'ize it by anyway possible are the better version, shes implying America does Japan's own works better. Like, I get there are some weird anime fans are out there who may treat Japan stuff like that, but AGAIN, that's not all anime fans. People wondering why the fuck One Piece got America'ized and why Pokemon called rice balls 'jelly doughnuts', isn't a zoo moment. Its just people wondering why dubs love to censor Japanese culture.

I mean, there's a reason why I coined the term 'Lilydom': it basically sums up how Lily wants everything to be. Only her opinions can be true. If you dare disagree with them, your in the wrong and your whatever what the fuck person she can throw out without any evidence beyond what she makes up to justify it. And if you dare try to defend anime to her....well good fucking luck, really, is all I can say. Honestly, this is why I say never trust Lily to discuss any media. She will not research properly and will miss out half the context for the media in Owl House's case and won't even try to just say she doesn't like subtitles and move on, and her 'hot' takes will be her making up shit to justify her opinions and why your wrong and because its Lily, has to trash someone somehow in it.

I mean, no joke Lily has a-lot of growing up to to. This is the same women currently making a video on her critics just so she can dub them as stalkers and make up BS about them so she can act like she's never in the wrong.

what's the reason you like Freddy Krueger enough to list him as one of your favorite villains? do you actually feel bad for him and think he didn't deserve what happened to him? or do you just think he's a well written character and that's why you enjoy him? i don't mean to nitpick but i think it's important for some of us to know the reason in order to determine whether your blog is a safe environment for CSA victims/survivors or not. i mean no disrespect i just feel like context here is key.

I grew up with his movies. It wasn’t about the backstory or the deeper analysis - just like with Friday the 13th and Psyko and all of those. Freddy was just another horror movie monster who killed people in whacky ways for me and to be honest, I neither remember, nor ever really cared about where he came from. He was just a dream-monster man to me, who gives me nostalgia today.

Only later in life did I read that Wes Craven initially intended for Freddy to be a predator - something which was dropped and turned to “just” a child killer (emphasis on killer) due to an at the time current criminal case going on in America.

I know they brought the initial backstory back for the reboot, but I neither knew about it as a kid, nor do I consider it as canon for those original movies, since it wasn’t at the time. Though, that isn’t to say that I’m not uncomfortable with this additional bit of the story of the making of him. I am, very much so. But I keep my fondness for those old time movies separate from the knowledge of where this figure came from, because I don’t want my memories tainted.

As far as I knew growing up with the movies, he was a dream-monster who would bleed into the real world to try and kill you with whacky practical effects just because. Me being very big on dreams only made it cooler. It was my father who introduced me and my brother, and when we were growing up he’d make this goofy sound effect and open his hand as if he had a clawed glove on, and pretended to stab us in the guts - to our laughing delight. Freddy bleeds into a father figure for me (which, yes, made me even more grossed out and sad when I read about the franchise beginnings). I never had the heart to tell him where the idea for Freddy started, he doesn’t know.

It was a mark of pride and achievement when he declared that we were old enough to watch this and that volume. It also was a bonding experience that I appreciate, because he’d tell us about him watching it with friends, how he’d scare them afterwards and what practical effects he admired the most.

So yeah... I remember the franchise fondly, though not the details of the story. Learning later that there was an extra malicious backstory made me very uncomfortable, but I view that aspect as separate to the goofy practical horror movie childhood I had and cherished.

Of course I don’t appreciate Freddy as a person. And of course I don’t condone what he did - in any version of his character. But it is as I said in my lengthy villain post - how much I look at morals in fiction, depends on how much I’m invested in its realism. A nightmare on Elm street isn’t something I take very seriously (unlike real life CSP, as I can think of no worse thing).

The big mistake I have made, though, is not taking into consideration that others don’t have the same relationship to those old movies as I do. I have also taken for granted that not everybody sees those pop culture horror icons - Freddy, Jason, Myers, Leather-face, Pinhead, etc - as lightheartedly as their constant referrals in pop culture makes it seem like everyone does. I forgot to consider that even fiction that I consider “not deep/meant to be taken seriously” can still trigger. And I’m sorry for that ignorance on my part. I’m sorry for not prefacing Freddy on the list with some sort of explanation to easy those of you who look at Freddy and only see that. It simply did not occur to me, and that embarrasses me.

Now, I won’t lie. The A nightmare on Elm street franchise will always mean a lot to me, regardless of how others see it. Even regardless of whether that makes you uncomfortable with me or not. I cannot undo the impact it had on me growing up. And I will not censor that fact here. If I for some reason want to talk about it or reblog a gif set of it at some point, I will. I still have to be true to me. I know my own intentions. I just want you to know that.

However, I WILL tag Freddy from now on. I’m always open to receive tag requests. Always! And I’m very appreciative of inquiries like these, rather than people assuming things and holding those ideas in their mind as fact without asking. So thank you for asking, anon.
