Aki - Prince-Kechi and Shinji - Black Mask
was due to their Personas being Polydeuces and Castor, Polydeuces being Zeus's son and Castor being a mortal. That's the reason.
I know, it's still dumb imo. TT0TT There's a better symbolism swapping Aki with Ken tbh (plus it's not like Prince-Kechi is immortal TT0TT ksajflkd;f he's famously known for possibly being shot and dead lfjdlksjfjdf; something Ken/Shinji both were in danger of being/happened to)
Ken reflects prince Goro better, as well as the symbolism of him becoming like Shinji (esp if he killed Shinji). Shinji is fine, he represents the line that was crossed. And both tie better to the death of a mother (Ken's mom, her being Ken's mom who died, and Shinji being the one who killed her....which might parallel Goro feeling like his existence led his mom to suicide).
Aki fits Yusuke better (arcana and personality). Could've ended up similar to Goro but was saved. (Yusuke found friends and got rid of his abuser, and Aki got adopted).
So it doesn't work via symbolism/arcana/role match (Mitsu, Yukari, Fuuka). And it doesn't work via "joining the team" structure (most of the other cast). And it doesn't work via personality structure (Junpei).
Like it was a 50/50 shot was gonna be Mako or Haru (both have PQ2 moments w/her) and Aigis would get the left over. Considering Aigis/Haru were the last girls to join (barring Sumi, who would've been better for Aigis while Metis would've fit Haru due to the ax weapon), and both Mako/Mitsu were prezs, the likelihood of Mitsu/Mako and Haru/Aigis was high. u_u MC/Anne/Ryu fit MC/Yukari/Junpei because they are first to join, Futaba/Fuuka for navi role, Koro/Mona for animal mascot, Mitsu/Aki for Mako/Yusuke for the female/male who join the team right after the og 3, and lastly Goro and Ken/Shinji work for being the last guys to join.
Like, symbolism, arcana matching, role matching, when they join the team......there's more working against Aki/Ken's costumes than it is for. TT0TT
Sorry it just gives me the ick, a real shame of a choice. u_u

For the hurt/ comfort dialogue prompt: 11 and/or 14? 😳🙏 thank you and have a lovely day!
Hey, you know how Strikers gave us all those Protect Oracle fights?
11 - “Just keep breathing. In and out. You’re doing great.” 14 - “Show me where it hurts.”
Yeah. Yeah, I can work with these. Thank you so much! Under a cut cause I rarely write small. Enjoy!
Send me a hurt/comfort prompt and I’ll (try to) write you a thing!
Futaba Sakura was a lot of things; a second year in high school, a prolific Featherman merch collector, one of the most formidable white hat hackers in the eastern hemisphere (possibly the world), and Oracle, the official Gal In The Chair for the notorious Phantom Thieves of Hearts.
She was not a combatant. Not even remotely built for being on the front lines in the middle of all the action.
Really, it was the worst part of these Jails. She never had to leave Necronomicon during a fight for a Palace run or down in Mementos, but the Jails were practically lousy with terminals tied to otherwise impassable walls. Terminals that only she could crack, and only by directly interfacing with them. Oracle trusted the other Thieves with her life, there was no doubt about that. But it was a lot easier to say that when she was cozy in her UFO controlling the flow of battle with just a few taps of her fingers than, say, completely vulnerable hunched over a screen with only four Phantom Thieves between her and an endless, fuming horde of Shadows eager to snap her like a glowstick.
Not only was it more comfortable to be where the baddies couldn’t reach her, it was a lot easier to see when a particularly nasty Shadow was winding up for a full-party instakill attack when she was that high above the action. Down in the thick of it, nerves thrumming with adrenaline and heart pounding a deafening drumbeat in her ears, she had only a split second to register the ominous droning of a Shadow casting Mamudoon. Really, it wasn’t even the sound that tipped her off, not over the din of the battle raging behind her and the rapid-fire clattering of her fingers flying over the keys in front of her and the rising hysteria screaming bad idea bad idea bad idea in the back of her head. No, something about Mudo was pure instinct, the hairs on the back of her neck standing straight up as icy dread trickled down her spine and settled like lump of ice in her stomach before those creepy little straw dolls could even manifest. Not only was Mona out of juice and Skull completely devoid of healing abilities, Sophie was in the fight and Joker was using one of his better healer personas, leaving them both weak to curse. Mudo would shred them, and if they went down, everyone else would go toppling after like the world’s worst game of dominoes.
When that realization hit, everything sort of happened at once.
In a heartbeat, Oracle had twisted partway around, one hand on the keyboard and frantically tapping out the last little bit they needed to take the barrier down, the other hand flinging her goggles haphazardly off her face. The next heartbeat, Necronomicon rose in a blaze of blue fire, painting the battlefield flickering teal as vivid green glyphs spread under her teammates’ feet and protective barriers shimmered to life around each of them. Another heartbeat, Mamudoon glanced off of them, curse nails clattering uselessly to the ground and blood-slick handprints sizzling away on contact with the shields, and Oracle almost had time to breathe a sigh of relief. Fourth heartbeat, the hack was almost done, but a shadow fell over her, pain lanced through her abdomen and... she was suddenly a lot more preoccupied with whatever that little point of silver was poking out of her suit than whatever it was over her shoulder. Fifth heartbeat, more painful than the last four as red seeped out around-- ah, that was the tip of a spear. She’d been stabbed clean through her diaphragm. Rude.
And then the world went sideways.
The Shadow--Eligor?--had flung her across the field with his spear still run through her and Futaba was distantly aware of several screams as she’d gone sailing through the air. Her vision went hazy as she bounced off of a wall and thumped to the ground. Man, how hard had that thing thrown her? She was either concussed or just delirious, because the last thing she saw before blacking out was Joker and some little blond girl laying into the enemy with an army of teddy bears with dynamite strapped to them.
The next thing after that was pain. Futaba didn’t so much regain consciousness as she was dropped unceremoniously into it like a pool of ice water and agony. One arm flailed blindly, trying to push away the hands that were holding her down, the other grabbed at her face in attempt to summon Necronomicon in her panic. Utterly blind to the Shadows that had her but if she could just get her persona out she’d be safe there, she’d be away from the fight, she wouldn’t hurt so damn much, she just needed to escape. But her mask was gone, her hand smacked uselessly against her face and pain was overshadowed by terror. Shadows had her pinned, Necronomicon was gone, this was how she was gonna die, wasn’t it? One hand was still free, she ignored the way every rib in her chest screamed in protest to fling one last defiant fist out at whatever had her trapped, and connected hard with--
“OW! Dammit, Oracle calm the hell down! You’re just hurtin’ yourself worse!” Ryuji’s voice snapped as a hand gripped her wrist, firm but gentle. The panicked haze in her head cleared a little and her eyes came into focus enough to see Skull looking down at her. He was rubbing at a bruise on his jaw and pouting hard enough she could have laughed. Theoretically. Y’know, if every muscle in her abdomen hadn’t seized up hard enough to keep her from breathing through the pain when she tried. Instead, all that came out was a strangled whimper and she tried not to focus on her vision going grey at the edges or the black spots that danced in front of her eyes.
“Easy.” Queen’s voice soothed as fingers gently combed through Futaba’s hair. “We had just enough stamina left to fix the worst of your injuries, but you’re still pretty beat up. Thankfully we still have enough medicine to do things the old-fashioned way.” Makoto was off to her left, uncapping a container of weird smelling ointment after she released Oracle’s other hand. Futaba tried to crane her neck to see who had her head in their lap only to have every bruise across her entire left side throb at once at the movement. A choked sob escaped her and her head spun, stomach roiling as tears blurred her vision. Skull’s hand slid up from her wrist to lace his fingers with hers and she squeezed back hard.
Whoever was holding her head and petting her hair stopped long enough to wipe the tears away from her face as they welled up. “Try not to move until Mako-chan has finished,” Haru murmured and ran her fingers gently through her hair again. “Can you move your right arm?” Futaba released Ryuji’s fingers and raised it gingerly rather than try to answer verbally. Why risk her voice cracking partway through or just flat out screaming as soon as she unclenched her jaw?
“Good. Show me where it hurts.” Makoto ordered gently. Oracle winced and released a shuddering breath as she gestured weakly to her entire left side. Her vision blurred again and Haru cleared just it as quickly. Ryuji took her hand again rather than let it drop and hurt her from jostling herself.
“Broken?” Futaba rasped quietly. The searing ache in her ribs every time she even breathed meant she barely managed to force enough air into her lungs to get even that much out.
The beat of silence was broken only by the sound of fabric being shredded as Queen sliced through her shirt to survey the damage underneath, then she finally answered, “no, nothing’s broken. That was the second thing we checked when we got to you.” The hacker managed a quizzical noise in the back of her throat, only to suck in a sharp breath through her teeth as Makoto started applying the ointment. The touch was gentle but still felt like Queen was dragging the knife over her bruises rather than her ungloved fingers. “Your... your pulse. It was weak, but still there.” Queen finally answered, her voice slightly thick.
Futaba managed to huff a weak laugh that time and that medicine was apparently doing its work because she barely even got any tunnel vision when she did. “Hack?”
Skull squeezed her hand a little, maybe to comfort her and soothe the fear clear on her face, maybe to force some circulation back into the fingers she was strangling the life out of. “Sophie finished it up for ya. Basically just hit the open button after Joker cleared her a path,” he chuckled, but his smile didn’t meet his eyes. Behind him, the rest of the team--minus Queen and Noir--watched at a distance to keep from crowding her. Mona up on Fox’s shoulder, each of them alternating between watching for more enemies and keeping an eye on their preoccupied teammates; Panther with one arm around Sophie and rubbing soothing circles on her shoulder, although it wasn’t clear whose comfort it was for judging by the wobble in Ann’s lower lip; Joker was a few steps away from the other group, mouth pressed into a tight line and hand occasionally reaching to his side like he would have been flipping his dagger as a distraction if he hadn’t passed it off to Queen. Every single one of them was visibly paler as they watched Futaba receive treatment with red-rimmed eyes and tense shoulders. Oracle’s chest ached in a way that had nothing to do with her injuries to realize how terrified they’d obviously been, even Joker. Maybe especially Joker; he was always so cool and collected and stoic even when shit was about to really hit the fan, so if she could see how scared he was under his mask, especially that far away...
Dwelling on it wasn’t going to help. Thinking about it and working herself up into a panic attack definitely wasn’t going to help. Especially when hyperventilating was probably the worst thing she could have done to her bruised ribs right then. Eventually Ryuji was sent away in favor of Ann and Sophia when Makoto had to start cutting away her shirt past what was decent to get at the rest of her injuries. Sophie brought one of the “armor” pieces they’d leveled past--an oversized hoodie with a nonsense motto in English that Futaba had called dibs on and wouldn’t let Akira sell--as well as Joker’s trench coat, both meant to cover her up when they were done. At Ann and Makoto’s insistence, the boys were banished entirely to the Monabus with no argument. Somehow that lack of argument is what really drove it home for her. It was almost funny, it wasn’t the bruises or the pain. No, the lack of Ann and Ryuji bickering, that was what made it real.
Futaba had almost died.
From there things were just sort of a haze of soft words barely keeping down the panic attack building in her chest while the other girls on the team patched her up. They wrapped her injuries that the medicine couldn’t completely work its magic on, they wrapped Futaba in the hoodie and coat to get her presentable long enough to make it to the next checkpoint, and they planned to wrap up the infiltration for the next couple of hours so everyone could get some rest after running on fumes. Of course, when Ann gave her a hand up, Oracle’s knees wouldn’t support her. Akira was kneeling in front of her in a flash, quieter than usual without the rustling of his coat to give him away, and thankfully kind enough to ignore her yelp of surprise when he materialized.
“I can carry you, it’s not too far--” Futaba didn’t even wait for him to finish his offer before gratefully and bonelessly draping herself across his back. The rest of the group scouted ahead and Mona took over navigator duty to make sure no more Shadows got the drop on them between there and the exit.
“Onward, noble steed.” She mumbled into the material of Joker’s vest, arms thrown loosely around his neck as he shifted her a little higher and a little less likely to slide off onto the ground. Huh, Ryuji was right, Akira did always smell like coffee and curry. He smelled like Leblanc, like home and Sojiro and--oh god, if she’d died, what would they have told him? What would her dad have done without her? He’d closed himself off almost as hard as Futaba had after her mom had died, how would he have handled--
“Hey.” Akira’s voice was low and soft when he pulled her up out of her downward spiral, and she felt it rumbling in his chest more than she actually heard it. “Deep breaths. Match me, okay?” Futaba did her best to follow along with his pattern; slow inhale, hold, slow exhale. It was shaky and still hurt, but eventually she fell into rhythm with it. “Just keep breathing. In and out. You’re doing great. Is there anything else you need me to do?”
“Keep talking, that’s all. ‘S calming.” Futaba added with a weak chuckle, “you should do ASMR, dude. You’d make bank.”
“I’ll think about it.” Akira hummed in thought as she worked on keeping her breathing even. “We can talk about whatever you need after you’ve gotten some rest in the real world, we’re almost to the checkpoint now. I’m sorry...” he trailed off, readjusted his grip on her legs as he hoisted her further up on his back, and started again, “I’m sorry I did this. I knew it was dangerous because we were all exhausted and you all warned me it was a risk but it was my call and I pushed us because I thought it’d be okay. The checkpoint was just on the other side, but then you took that hit and I was terrified I’d just gotten you killed because we were all out of energy and--”
Futaba awkwardly patted the side of his head with one shaky hand and he leaned into the touch while his babbling slowed but didn’t stop. It was kinda cute and a little funny how he acted more like a cat than Morgana did sometimes. But that wasn’t what she was trying to do. After the third pat, she found where his ear was hiding under that thick mop of curly hair and yanked on it.
“OW, THE HELL--???” Akira’s voice was a lot less soothing when it was that loud and the shout made her head pound and the rest of the team whip around in alarm. At least he’d stopped hyperventilating and holding her tight enough to leave bruises. As if she needed more.
“Those are not calming words, Joker.” She grumbled against his back.
“Right. Sorry.” He waved off the other thieves, who all had their hands halfway to their weapons like they were ready for another ambush after he’d yelped.
“We can definitely talk about it later, but I get the first Futaba Almost Died Panic Attack, okay? You can have the second one.” It was meant more as a joke, but once she’d said it, it actually seemed pretty fair.
“Sounds good. Any other requests?” He laughed, although the sound was really more of a quiet little huff, all nerves and no humor.
“Hmmm. I get to pick dinner for the rest of the vacation.” Futaba said matter-of-factly, hoping to lighten the mood until they were in the clear.
Akira sighed and, after taking a moment to readjust her on his back again and catch up to the rest of the group, nodded. “I’ll stock up on curry supplies when we get back.”

I refound this scrap and am not sure it'll actually get used for the fic it was written for, so. Ren charms Eiko by making a display of charming Makoto. He has no idea Ryuji's falling for him as well.

Status: Asleep
This was inspired by another fic I read oops. I like it. Hope you do.
Futaba really disliked status effects. They brought down the team and caused them to do things they wouldn’t normally do. They caused the team pain and made them weak. Futaba felt worse because it wasn’t often she could help with Necronomicon. It was one of the hardest things for her to do with her Persona.
Not all status effects were that horrible, though. The ones like burn and poison went away quickly in the Metaverse and didn’t cause much of a problem. Futaba thought the worst effects were the ones that dealt with emotions. Especially confusion. It made the front line do things they would never do. Futaba would never forget only being able to watch as Ryuji helplessly whacked Akira with his weapon. Ryuji desperately looked like it was the last thing he wanted to do, but his body had control over him. It was hard to tell how Akira reacted, but Futaba was sure it hurt him to see his friends like that. He was their leader, after all.
Ryuji was tentative with him after that. He was hesitant to speak out loud. It took Akira openly telling him it wasn’t his fault to get the blond to open up again. Futaba was their support, but at times like that… she felt useless.
Just like now, as she watched Akira crouch over Ann, Yusuke, and Morgana. Today they had made a trip to Mementos in hopes of doing a little training. The three had been put to sleep in the last battle, and didn’t look like they’d be waking up soon. Sleep was different from other status effects. It didn’t wear off right after the enemy was defeated like the others. Sleep wore off whenever the person woke up. She frowned a bit at how defenseless they were like that.
“How long do you think they’ll be out?” Makoto asked softly, bending to take Morgana in her arms.
“Not soon, I’d say about an hour and a half,” Futaba answered, tilting her head as she analyzed.
“There’s a safe spot just a floor above, right? We can rest there,” Ryuji pointed out.
Akira nodded in assent. Their leader was never one for talking. His usual time of speaking was when he was answering a question or helping his friends. Futaba’s favorite time he spoke was when it had anything to do with his Personas. He always sounded thrilled when he summoned them. It showed the nerdy side to him.
“Do you know where we’re goin’, Oracle?” Ryuji asked, shifting Ann in his arms so her head rested on his shoulder. “I don’t feel like gettin’ lost down here.”
“Trust me, I know where we’re going,” Futaba began walking back the way they came.
Akira picked Yusuke up bridal style and swiftly got out of his crouch. Futaba didn’t want to keep them walking for too long, since the air in Mementos wasn’t very healthy and they didn’t have Morgana to turn into a car. She mostly focused on navigation until she heard Akira and Ryuji talking behind Makoto and herself.
“Do you think they dream when they get put to sleep by Shadows?” Ryuji was asking. “I mean, is it any different from falling asleep in the real world?”
Akira shrugged, “It could be.”
Futaba glanced over her shoulder, “Have you never fallen asleep down here, Skull?”
He cocked his head back, “Uh… Not that I can remember.” – his head jerked back up with realization – “Wait- you were listenin’?! I guess you always are, though…”
“Not always. It’s not like you asking questions all the time is interesting conversation,” Futaba sassed.
She smiled when it made Makoto and Akira laugh. Ryuji just looked hurt, like he usually does whenever someone sasses him good.
“She got you there, Skull,” Makoto smiled.
“I have to agree,” Akira said slowly, but warmly. This was another time he loved to talk, when he had a chance to be sassy.
“Aw, not you too, Joker!” Ryuji groaned, slumping down a bit.
“But to answer to your question, I think being put to sleep by a Shadow is like taking a really effective sleeping drug,” Futaba commented, kicking her feet out as she walked. “So it’s like naturally falling asleep in our world, but really quick. It’s entirely possible they could be dreaming.”
“Huh, that makes me feel better about this,” Makoto said, glancing down at Morgana. “It’s not some unnatural thing that could be harmful. It’s just sleep.”
“It really does, now that you say that,” Ryuji tilted his head when he spoke, but returned it to it’s regular position to complain. “Are we there yet? Panther is heavier than I thought she would be.”
“You better not say that to her face,” Akira said amusedly.
“You don’t think I’m that dumb, do you?” Ryuji asked with actual concern.
“No need to worry, the stairs are right there!” Futaba pointed straight ahead.
“That’s good, we’ll be out of the open, then,” Makoto nodded. She glanced down at Morgana and stroked the top of his head. “I don’t know why, but I still don’t like seeing them like this. I know they’ll wake up and that they don’t have any major injuries, but it bothers me.”
“I get how you feel,” Futaba responded sincerely, a touch of sadness hitting her.
They were in the safe zone now. Akira and Ryuji gently laid Yusuke and Ann down on the waiting benches. Makoto set Morgana down gently next to Ann’s head. She sighed and checked over the sleeping Phantom Thieves.
“I think it’s because they look so helpless,” Makoto spoke softly to Futaba, “why I don’t like to see them like this.”
Futaba nodded, “I feel the same. When I’m stuck up in Necronomicon and watching you guys fight, it sucks seeing you get those status effects. It’s really hard to hack the cognition to get your status effects off, and I would so do it more if it was easier. I can barely do anything unless it’s absolutely necessary. It sucks.”
“Futaba…” Makoto sighed and moved to place a hand on her shoulder. “You don’t have to push yourself for us. We’ve taken on a lot of ailments, but we’re still here and kicking, yeah?”
Futaba sighed, “Yeah. Thanks, Mako-” – Futaba’s eyes widened when she saw Akira and Ryuji – “Hey! What are you two doing!?”
She called out as soon as she saw Akira jump. Makoto squeaked when she turned to see him midair. They both let out a sigh when he landed on the other side of the platform.
“What on Earth are you two doing?” Makoto asked in her high-pitched accusing voice.
“I wanted to see if Joker could make that jump, and in this world he can,” Ryuji teased, giving Akira a look from his side of the tracks. He began to get in a jumping position. “Now it’s my turn.”
“Nuh-uh, no way. Skull, you are absolutely, one hundred percent, not allowed to attempt that jump,” Makoto took on her role as their superior as she strode towards Ryuji.
“I thought I was the leader,” Akira joked, placing a hand mockingly on his chest.
Makoto’s cheeks faintly went pink, “As your advisor, I have to disapprove of this action. Now, Joker, get yourself back on this side of the platform, please.”
The way she said “please” made Futaba shiver. It also made Akira’s smirk falter for a second before he jumped back to the other platform. Ryuji laughed and swung an arm around Akira’s shoulders.
“I never to get to show this guy up, do I?” he complained lightly.
“Not like you could in the first place,” Akira teased.
“Oh, I could take you right here if I wanted to!” Ryuji reached up to ruffle Akira’s hair.
A second later both boys were on the floor, wrestling on the concrete. Futaba tilted her head as she watched, but Makoto just had a hand over her mask, shaking her head.
“Are a lot of boys like this?” Futaba asked.
“A lot of them are,” Makoto responded in an affectionate sigh. “Yusuke is an exception.”
Futaba nodded her head in agreement. Yusuke did not seem like someone who would want to wrestle on the floor. But watching the two boys on the floor made her laugh.
“I wonder what Mona would say if he saw this,” she giggled.
Makoto smiled and tapped he chin, Or Ann. She’d probably say they need to stop acting like such kids.”
Futaba and Makoto laughed again. Ryuji and Akira had stopped wrestling and were now panting as they looked up at them from the floor.
“I, for one, would not have listened to her. How about you, Joker?” Ryuji asked.
“I might have, all things considered,” Akira responded after a moment of contemplation.
“Really? Well, I guess she can be kinda scary sometimes,” Ryuji grinned.
They all laughed at that. Ann could be feisty when she wanted to be. Makoto crossed her arms as Ryuji and Akira returned to their feet.
“Maybe we should get some rest as well, seeing as we’ll be waiting a bit longer for the others to come to,” she suggested. “We all could use it.”
“I’ll take you up on that,” Ryuji accepted. “I’m tired.”
“I can stay up. I’ll be your watchful protector!” Futaba said confidently.
“It’s a safe zone, Oracle, you don’t have to watch over us if you want to rest, too,” Makoto spoke as she walked back to the benches.
“You never know what could happen in the Metaverse, plus I can sleep in if I need to. You all have school,” Futaba insisted.
“If you’re set on it,” Makoto smiled.
Futaba took a seat on the pavement, leaning back on the seat Morgana was asleep on. She watched as her friends took comfortable positions. Makoto filled the free space next to Yusuke’s feet. Akira sat next to Ann’s feet, stretching out his legs. Ryuji leaned against a seat near Yusuke’s head, letting his legs straighten comfortably.
Futaba closed her eyes behind her mask, but didn’t fall asleep. She focused on Mementos and it’s endlessly twisting paths. She checked on her team’s Personas and their status. She searched for reappearing Shadows. She let her friends get their well-deserved rest.

this is prolly gonna be a hot take on this blog, but i dunno if Ryuji and Ann have super necessary roles in the PT, do they? Like they also seem to mainly be filling out thief tropes via the muscle and femme fatale (Granted they're def important in the first two dungeons, but after that they kinda fizzle out in importance unless it's badly written conflict for Oku's dungeon; heck i recall someone even calling Ann kinda useless later on in the game)
For the blog? Yeah. For me personally? No, I've thought about it before skldfja;jfkajf I just don’t talk about it cause the point is moot (and I’d rather talk about how they could’ve been used more effectively cause I think they have more they could provide). Technically no one is exactly SUPER IMPORTANT except maybe the MC (not because he's Joker, but because we need an MC kefjklasfjfjsda), but Anne/Ryu do have roles that can be utilized well in the game/story that could be neat......if actually used (plus they can serve multiple roles than just femme fatale and muscle). But yeah the game doesn't utilize roles well, it makes everyone useless tbh. Makoto and Futaba are only useful because of plot convenience and......*fumes* I've explained why I think their roles are poorly handled (and it's not cause it takes things away from other chars, but that is one).
Grant it, most of the "usefulness" of chars is them getting ideas for targets, which could just be accomplished by Google and a list of well known people. 8U But let's pretend the Nav doesn't ONLY require a name to figure out if someone can be a target (hey I didn’t write P5 to have overly complex half assed solutions for simple problems, Atlus did~!) But I’m prioritizing finding targets and info on targets since that seems to be what the team has a big hard on for.
Anne: While yes she can be femme fatale, it'd require actually using femme fatale abilities. Not only can she provide a certain type of distraction, she can use her “wiles” to gather information. Her being a model could also provide us with possible targets in a celebrity-esque field that we otherwise wouldn’t have access to. She’d also pair really well with Haru in that case as well (Haru possibly using her connections to get Anne into those places).
Haru: Not only can she be the financier (and also providing possible cover for the money we make in the Metaverse), she also has access to high society, and that doesn’t just mean celebs. And if written....a different way, she can prove to be able to speak very well and be able to mingle in any convo (which can be used as a distraction or info gathering). Which could also provide a great skill in negotiations.
Ryuji: Now it’s been awhile since I researched this, but last time I checked single mother’s in Japan tend to......not have the best income (I think the research was me wondering how can he attend a prep school?), so it’s possible he can have access to not the best neighborhoods, and if not, he looks like a delinquent so he can probably infiltrate those neighborhoods for info more easily than Anne/Haru. On top of being the muscle, and being able to provide distractions that require more physical effort (such as Mada’s dungeon)
Mona: Not only does he have info on the Metaverse, he also has more experience (*cough* lies?????*cough* .....his backstory is confusing but that’s for a different time.....much later but at some point) and can help advise us. He also has the ability to info gather in most public places without issue. Which makes him one of the most OP in terms of info gathering.
MC is really just there to pull it all together, maybe be able to sneak into seedier place due to his probation status (I mean he shouldn’t, but if he needed to he might), but yeah he’s there as the leader.
So while Anne/Ryu/Mona/Yusuke/Haru(*cough*MC*cough*) are all useless in the actual P5 story compared to the supposedly “not useless” contrived plot devices that are Mako/Futaba (that either don’t do their jobs right/well, or the game pretty much has to create scenarios to justify the job even tho......we didn’t really need it, and both can take away from possible gameplay/story scenarios)......let’s just say Anne/Ryu/Haru/Mona have a bit more than just their “thief trope” they are based off of that could provide a lot to the team if P5′s writing wasn’t absolute crap.
Their roles are pretty standard, but they also work in the strength of what they need (targets), and cover what the other lacks. Like I guess Yusuke could replace Ryu, if Yusuke wasn’t always categorized as a starving character, despite his in game strength stat it doesn’t really make sense nor feel as reliable compared to Ryu; he could provide a decent substitute to Ryu’s role as the muscle, and while he is on the lower end of society and thus filling Ryu’s other attribute to the team.....I feel like he’d have a harder time sneaking into/utilizing it due to his appearance compared to Ryu. But again, nothing is super important, chars can be changed to be utilized better, nothing matters. I just think Anne/Ryu/Mona/Haru already have a solid foundation that is good for the setting and the only way to go is up with them (in rewrites of course akjfesdkl;jfaf Atlus already screwed the pooch klfsdajf;ajf *sobs* orz)

so I've been thinking about making/writing a big ol/ P5 AU (aka a fix-it fic because P5 infuriates me) and I was wondering; what are some changes you say would have to be made in order to improve P5?
Can do my dude, under the cut for length. 8U
So ngl I’m personally trying to do one myself too, I can give you a few ideas. I should tell you, I personally am just......trashing a lot of what happened in P5, and just using it’s setting to explore other ideas. I’m 1) choosing topics that weren’t in the original that I think would fit well, and 2) expanding on some things they talked about, and revolving my plot and characters in a way that the story can work with those two things (rather than......trying to force a square into a circle, I’m just going to shave off the sides to make it a circle and make it work). Doesn’t mean my fix it AU fic is what should’ve happened tho, just.....it’s made in a way that I want to work with things so I have to change a lot. Which makes it very AU than fix it but elkasfjls;jfad yeah
But I’m not one to judge on how much you wanna change, just that if you wanna change a lot, this is coming from someone who is changing....A LOT! XD
First thing I think you should always consider is tackling the Metaverse’s ground rules, REALLY establish them (that’s what I’m doing, I’m not changing/taking away a whole lot but I’m clarifying what can and can’t happen and tbh just adding to it). These rule are up to you, but make them clear, and establish them. P5 really suffers from pretending to establish rules but then........breaking said rules without a care or explanation. Like this is probably it’s BIGGEST problem P5 has because it’s story HINGES on these rules for it’s plot to work. Here’s three examples of things that were broken constantly or just....aren’t explained well:
Boss Wakaba not changing nor disappearing once Futaba realizes her mom was good (thus no need for the boss). Even tho we saw, in real time, Madarame’s cognition changing over a gd door. So explain how cognition worksAccidentally pulling people in, we dunno what causes some to be pulled in instead of other’s (other than plot convenience). If a Persona can be touched/ridden on/ridden in.....utilize that, or make it so that they CAN’T utilize that. A lot of P5′s puzzles/road blocks could be bypassed with just “hey lemme try something-oh cool that works.” (Yusuke/Makoto, and probably Futaba wouldn’t have joined the team if they just did that, Haru is needed for a bio scan, but hey they could at least TRY ramming their Personas into the door 8U)Heart changing, explain how it really changes a person, why is Futaba considered having her heart stolen despite IT NOT BEING GD STOLEN, or how (like that 5 hour vid suggested) why Yuuki and Sae kinda act like they had a change of heart and how come one still has their palace despite that possible change of heart.... (if you go that route, you can maybe explain the difference in behavior of those two vs actual people having their desires ripped away).
(side rant, one thing that still bugs me is that Sae has an alarm meter, but like.....She’s like a P4 shadow, she KNOWS you’re their, she even MEETS YOU at times! So like??????? Why have the meter?! She’s screwing you over all the damn time!!!! And she can only do that if she’s aware you’re there and know where you are! ANd she does! JUst????? I dunno make sense of that, maybe just explain there’s no meter?)
The next big issue is character consistency (first world building consistency, now Character consistency, tbh plot consistency is pretty bad too.....consistency is not in P5′s dictionary tbh). Everyone’s acting OOC everywhere, Anne’s biggest asset is somehow a flaw in her own CoOp (aka can read people and is very attuned to not saying the wrong thing), Ryuji isn’t a perv in HIS CoOp nor the first dungeon and is pretty level headed but after that???? nope, Futaba constantly talks about how it’s the TEAM that helped her and still help her but in her CoOp she only talks about how the MC is who helped her and can only do things cause of him and leave the house cause of him (despite the fact after she said that Yusuke went to her house the next day and got in in the main story >.>). Make the characters consistent, give them more flaws too tbh but as long as everything is the same and is foreshadowed well.
So those are the two biggest flaws in P5 that you might want to focus on fixing, how you do it is up to you! I’d also keep in mind to make sure that if the team needs to change cognition, make sure it’s for a good reason. Madarame’s door is a good reason, until you realize the stupid place has open windows and they can easily get to said open windows. Or Sae’s dungeon, her blockade is REALLY FREAKING STUPID cause it’s a public place and should already be open and JFSDKLJFLK;JASFD  JUST ANYTHING ELSE! Have the team work smarter not harder, if they are doing the opposite it can be....frustrating.
Now the next stuff is up to you. Personally the first thing I do next is cut the team down to size (once Mako/Futaba/Haru were announced I started sweating and really felt like they should’ve kept it to 5ish). Too many characters to juggle on the team, who you choose is up to you if you want to do that. Think Yuki, Hifumi, or Sae should’ve been a thief? YOU DO THAT! Personally my fix-it one I’m doing MC/Anne/Ryu/Mona/Haru, but that’s because the story is based around their strengths and weaknesses (Yusuke and Futaba are important side characters/Coops tho, Makoto is a secret), there’s not need for a “smart person” because they all just work as a team, there’s no need for Yusuke’s art skills, and hacking isn’t going to appear in my fic (you can still do it, but my god the way P5 does it is horrible and OP and just.....why bother doing anything if Futaba can just wave her hacking wand? so unless you have a way to nerf it then go for it....but you’ll probs have to explain her “hacking cognition” bs cause.....why? just....why?). I tend to stick with the OG4 because they are solid and can fill a useful role that’s seen in other Phantom thief works (and can fit into P5, again I don’t think Yusuke’s artist eye is....useful), I chose Haru for reasons I won’t go into (but her personality is going to be different, this isn’t the reason, but I did need a personality change).
But like I said, it can be anyone you want! Don’t like Anne or Ryuji or Mona (well you might need Mona, but you can re-write him!), then kick them! Or keep everyone doesn’t matter to me akldfjs;lajf XD
If you want to keep all the characters.......I dunno. I don’t know where to start with Futaba, you can probably go a few different ways, but if you want to be more realistic, she’d probs still have issues for a few months (you don’t just get better after like a week XP) but that could make it hard for her to do anything for the team. Yusuke you’d have to make more relevant, you can make him the more level headed one (and you can remove Makoto via doing that). Makoto.....give her humility? I dunno, I wrote something on how to fix her arc (you can use it cause I’m not) but flksdafafafan I’d just boot her too personally XP (I guess character wise I’d actually make her smart, not point out obvious stuff in an attempt to appear smart, and ACTUALLY BE AN ACTION GIRL cause she ain’t shit when it comes to that either) I’d add more faults to Anne and Haru (love my girls, but first thing I did was add more issue to them), Ryuji make him consistent first then figure out what you want (I’d say keep him and Mona fighting the same, but make it more organic, with a good make up at the end). I’d also have Haru show up.
I’d also personally change Anne’s CoOp. I remember researching on Hafus well before P5 came out, and iirc I remember one hafu model lamenting on how everyone thinks they are pretty this and that and then talking bad behind their back, and then also how Hafus are kind of a commodity in Japan (aka they model and people think they are pretty, but then they also trash them for being “other”, think of it kinda like how everyone loves black culture in America but will trash black people for being black). Just the hypocrisy of “oh this is so awesome!!! BUT ALSO YOU SUCK!” kinda thing. It’s been awhile (I found it like a year or so before P5′s release), but it always stuck with me. And it made sense why Anne was a model but.....the way she’s....shamed for treating her PART TIME JOB/HOBBY as JUST THAT..... And then shaming her for her own natural beauty....it just reminded me of the interviews I read and it felt icky. I have an idea, it’s in the similar vein as modeling, but I think changing the writing so that it just treats her like a person instead of a hafu is one way to do it (after I finish writing it you can use it if you want/if you like it, it’s roughly similar to what we have but just tweaking it, I’m gonna use an aspect of that in my own fic but it won’t play beat by beat like it does in P5).
I’m not sure about Kasumi, I personally started planning before Kasumi was announced. Do whatever with her tbh kflsjdf;asj
As for Goro.....listen I don’t like who we got, it felt like Atlus gave us like.......a few different characterizations they could’ve taken Goro and shoved them all into him despite these characterizations conflicting and not melding at all. They just contradict. He’s someone I think SHOULD be in the story (if not him, then give someone else the role of the “shadow archetype” but there needs to be one because that’s a staple for Persona, tho I mean if you want to reinvent the wheel and not have one then I say go for it! It’d def something new/different). But if you have Goro, you NEED to smooth him out. I’ll give you a few ideas.
Want him to be a puppet? Make sure it makes sense (by which I mean, due to his powers as we have it now, and how much he hated Shido prior to said powers, it doesn’t make sense for him to be Shido’s puppet when he can easily monitor Shido with said powers, and it doesn’t make sense for him to not monitor him nor be Shido’s puppet. It makes sense for him to pretend to be Shido’s puppet, and then turn around and be the REAL puppet master). A good way to make him a puppet is for him not to be related to Shido (or he and Shido are unknowing to that fact if you want), and Goro is just moved by this politician he sees one day and just stans the shit outta him, despite not knowing he’s a puppet to Shido (if this is the case, I don’t think think Shido planning on killing Goro would make sense, but proving he only thinks of Goro as a tool would def shake Goro’s world, since in this case he is unshakingly DEVOTED to Shido, hence why he’d never go into Shido’s mind). Sympathetic, and similar to Sho, has the best chance of being helped.
Want him to basically be an extreme lawful person/Light Yagami? His way or the highway (also couples well with him being the real mastermind with Shido being the puppet). Well intention, but the ways he is doing it is horrible? Sympathetic? Not Sympathetic, your choice!
(closest rewrite you can get to keep it like the original P5 without the BS puppet thing) Guy that wants to just get revenge on Shido and Society, and is the real mastermind (much to everyone’s shock, due to thinking the red herring Shido was the real mastermind), who has Shido under his thumb. Sympathetic, but he’s willing to hurt whoever for his revenge. Might not be able to be helped, unless you count jail time.
Personally I’m all for changing the god too but that’s just me. 8U
I know I didn’t touch on the bad guys, personally I’m keeping some the same, adding more to some other’s (tho changing their sin), and then just creating like some original bad guys to replace the one’s I’m not using (aka like.........Madarame is going to be a Mementos boss in my fic, I’m replacing him with someone else, and if you looked at my Haru link earlier Okumura is obvie going to be 2nd dungeon instead). You can do whatever with them imo, depends on how much you wanna change. All I can say is just make them deeper/more well rounded characters/no shallow Saturday Cartoon villains (aka give them nuance 8U). And don’t just....have a throw away line about this or that, incorporate it more into the dungeons (imo I’d take a page or two out of P4′s book, have their internal dialogue blasting a lot, maybe even have a memory play that we see).
And that’s as much as I can word vomit atm (I’m very tired ;w;), I feel like I might’ve missed something but.....I’m not gonna worry about it. Sorry it’s in very big strokes, but you have a lot of wiggle room imo. I don’t think there’s a “perfect” way of fixing P5, so as long as you have a vision you want to execute I think you’re good. Like I said, my fix it fic is just retooling a lot of P5 in a way I can make certain ideas work, it’s not supposed to be “this is how P5 is supposed to be” but a “this is how I think a tighter version of P5 could’ve gone down.”

So I’ve started watching the P5 crit video, only about 18 min in tho (probably gonna take a break I was sick and just watching it while I eat).
There is one thing I disagree on, or I guess I should say....it’s something I never saw come up in discussions I’ve seen over the past few years. It’s in terms of the combat and who is the most ideal party. He says “Ryuji/Yusuke/Mona” but over the years I’ve seen the meta community (aka I’mma be a parrot from remembering the stuff I read from that community) go through tier ranks of each character and they apparently found the most ideal team being “Ryuji/Anne/Makoto.” Tho I dunno if the meta community ever considered “Phys, phys, and phys” (and tbh, Makoto is probably still a better alternative to Mona for the reasons below).
So like when it comes to late game they’re like “doesn’t matter tbh, everything is OP” and “if you like a character or your party you can still use it! but Ryu/Anne/Makoto is still the most ideal, not saying you HAVE to use it but those are just cold hard facts we’ve looked at.” (personally I run Ryu/Anne/Mona then Ryu/Anne/Haru but I’ll still stand by what the Meta community says, so yeah it don’t take their talk as a personal attack they just speaking facts 8U)
So before I go into why those three are the most ideal, this is roughly what their tier rank (from Sish tier to like Dish tier) is Ryuji/Makoto>Anne>Haru/Mona>Yusuke>Goro
Mona’s been moved around a bit due to reconsidering his lucky punch and his healing, he’s a good alternative to Makoto (but Makoto is still better). Haru is versatile (but Heat Riser is bad, I think they said if she was the one with deliberate it’d be better) and a good alternative to Anne (but Anne is still better for reasons I’ll get to). Yusuke isn’t good cause his Su-spells are only a 50% CHANCE rather than an set 50% increase/decrease like the atk/def spells. Goro is just not that great? (been awhile for Goro tbh). Another thing is that people on the higher end have more enemies weaker to their skills, rather than Ice/Wind (iirc there are a lot less enemies with that weakness than Nuke/Fire/Elec).
Now, the reason people choose Ryuji over Yusuke is because......he out damages Yusuke. They’ve done tests, even with Ryuji missing sometimes he’s still better than Yusuke. Again, iirc, there’s more enemies with Elc weakness than Ice, Ryuji just outputs more damage (thanks to charge and certain other spells), and his bad beat/swift strike multi hit help decrease him hitting less. Ryuji’s Atk increase skill is ALWAYS a 50% increase, and Yusuke’s Speed is only a 50% CHANCE (so it doesn’t always work).
The reason Makoto is better than Mona. She out damages in the physical department (tho he does have the crits). Her spells are more viable, tho Mona’s Salvation is technically better than her two healing spells she’s still more viable. 1) There’s A LOT more enemies with Nuke weakness than Wind (Wind I think has the least), 2) Her defense buff makes it so she doesn’t have to heal as often (thus why it’s a good trade off for her not having Salvation but having  Mediarahan and Energy Shower separate) and tbh this is a biiiiiiig reason for the meta community choosing this as their ideal team (less time healing means more time attacking). 4) The fact she synergizes well with Anne
Which leads to Anne. Like, Haru is a GREAT alternative (both do great damage tbh), but Anne just.....works the best. Her attack down spell works amazing with Makoto, it makes it so that there’s even LESS time you need to spend time on healing. Fire is also a very common weakness too. And Anne has spot healing just in case of emergencies.
But yeah the Meta community basically strives for “Less time healing when you could be attacking and/or taking a turn away from Joker attacking” and Ryu/Anne/Mako is the best team to make that happen.
But it’s interesting why that guys is saying Ryu/Yusuke/Mona when......Makoto is just a better alternative to Mona. She can heal just as well, hell Ryu/Yusuke will take less damage cause of her. And she can deal out a decent enough damage herself (again it might not be Mona’s crit, but if we’re just looking at heavy damage output then yeah she’s the better call). But I’m not sure how they’d feel about Ryu/Yusuke/Mako team up vs a Ryu/Anne/Mako team up (tbh they probably talked about it and I forgot I’ll have to dig up those posts again). Cause they agree phys is crazy OP in P5, and Ryu/Yusuke team up seems like a match made in heaven, but.....I have a feeling they’ll say “I guess it’s fine for dungeon crawling, but for mini boss/boss fights you should run Ryu/Anne/Mako cause that matches up better with a longer fight.”
