I am still baffled that we are literally told in the novel that Wei Wuxian defecting from the Jiang Sect AND the fight after, was staged, because they really had to bring home that there was nothing between them anymore to keep the Jiang Sect safe, and yet people still use it as an argument for why Jiang Cheng is the worst and totally hates Wei Wuxian. Like we don't have that lovely little Yungmeng trio scene only 2 chapters later. Wild.
Oh and if you're interested here are the citations that that support that the defection in it's entirety is a sham:
After the fight, Jiang Cheng told the outside that Wei WuXian defected from the sect and was an enemy to the entire cultivation world. The YunmengJiang sect had already cast him out. From then on, no ties remained between them- a clear line was drawn. Henceforth, no matter what he did, they'd have nothing to do with the YungmengJiang sect!
MDZS exiled rebels translation, chapter 73
Before they parted, Jiang Cheng spoke, "We won't see you off. It wouldn't be good if someone saw us."
Wei WuXian nodded. He understood that it wasn't easy for the Jiang siblings to have come out here. If someone else saw them, all those things they did for the public to believe would be wasted.

okay cause i missed this point out on one of my last posts... the fact that jyl, who had extremely less privilege and power than jc did, as a woman and a weak cultivator, still stood up to the sects by defending wwx ' PUBLICALLY. a boy, who in the eyes of the gentry, was a son of a servant who had far rise up past his station, a dog who needed to be leashed. she defended him, in front of the gentry which could give off the implications she was sleeping with him - remember mianmian, who was accused of having the hots for wwx when she stood up for him. in fact, she WAS accused of that - didnt jin furen imply it was unseemly for her to be so close to an unrelated man ? and yet she announced that her a-xian was her 'didi', claiming him, putting him under the jiangs protection.
and yet, what did jiang wanyin, jiang zhongzhu, do ? he folded like the wet, thin paper tissue that he is under jin guangshans manipulations, succumbed under his own insecurities and petty envies, jealousies. he went far beyond the plan that wwx and him had agreed on, and declared his ex-shixiong an enemy of the cultivation world.
dont tell me jiang cheng didnt have power, that the jiangs were rebuilding and couldnt afford to go against the rest of the sects. because, at this point, yunmeng jiang had already grown fat off of what yllz had won them during the war. because he had no reason to declare wwx an enemy, to paint an even bigger target on wwxs back.

I have just read the fic recommended (bitter recompense) and I have to agree about LXC. I think it was part of the au idea, if I'm not mistaken it was from that angstymdzsthoughts tumblr.
It was an angstier au in general, which is why I took the advice and imagined a better future after the ending of the fic, lol. Can't handle WangXian with anything but the happy ending they got in canon.
(The comparison of JGY and WWX makes my skin crawl. WWX was NOTHING like JGY. He was the one who only ever reacted when the only other choice was death for him and the remnants. Very much unlike JGY --and fanon JC-- who only ever made excuses for themselves.)
anyway, love your blog!! It's so good to find someone who isn't ridiculously delusional about the characters!! This is so refreshing!!
i also have a feeling that it was the actual prompt, tho no hate if the author shares the same opinion, i cant help myself from pointing out things i have a different opinion in dsjkfhkjdfh my annoying like that.
the only comparison ill take of jgy and wwx is how they are narrative foils. its pretty clear that both jgy and xy serves as a comparison to wwx to further hone in on the fact that though having a rough background can affect your outlook on life, you still have the agency to make decisions of your own isolated from that, and you cant excuse the bad things you do by claiming that people didnt treat you fairly in life. but other than that jgy and wwx couldnt be more different, their circumstances are similar, but the actual context and them as characters are complete opposites.
also you didnt ask but i cant stop thinking about it in reference to lan xichen. idk what people think lxc knew at the time of the nightless city battle and the siege of the burial mounds. he knew that lan wangji clearly felt strongly about wwx (probably didnt realise the extent of these feelings until he saw him escaping with wwx at NC). but in terms of his opinion of wwx, he had been shown no evidence that wwx /wasnt/ creating an army or actively trying to harm the cultivation world. lxc knew wwx as a teenager, then again as a war hero, and finally the last time he saw wwx he was threatening people at koi tower (obviously wwx was in the right here but you see that lxc was on the fence about it and jgy downplayed the whole war prisoners thing and why wouldnt lxc trust his sworn brother over the guy who ambushed the party)
like no matter how obvious lwjs attachment to wwx was to lxc, once jiang cheng declared him an enemy to the cultivation world, there was no hope for wwx. who wasnt going to believe wwxs own marital brother he grew up with, that they knew were very close with each other. at that stage it was basically guaranteed wwx was going to someday make a move on the cultivation world, it was just when.
i just feel like people were expecting too much from lxc, and place too much of the blame for wwxs downfall on his shoulders (especially for someone who wasnt even present at the siege of the burial mounds), like the concept of lan wangji resenting his own brother (and not jiang cheng apparently who was also there in the fic which yes i do remember that this ask was about that fic djkfhkd) just feels too ooc for my own personal and very picky tastes.
and im so happy you enjoy my mess of a blog, even with its very biased opinons. i really do love talking to people who have similar takes to me dksfjhsjkf makes me feel like im not reading into stuff completely wrong fdgjhfdjk
