Infinity War (6)
CHAPTER 6: TRUST
Loki & The Avengers
Summary: A work inspired by @queencfthestarsdrfoster ‘s post of the universe where Loki is alive and Thor is avenged.
Series: Will contain all- and more- that we saw in Infinity War. Will not contain smut and fluff for obvious reasons. Might contain weird humor though.
Chapter content: story time. emotions time. new science bros time?
Warnings: talk about the past
Word count: So my cousin wanted to make sure I knew how to smoke before I wasted his precious joint. I wasted good five drags of his cigarette because I kept ‘mouth-fagging’ (heard that for the first time) but when it came to the joint, I kinda (in my sister-in-law’s words) aced it. Now, this in no way means any of you little ones reading this are encouraged to do this. I am a twenty-five year old idiot who does not know how to breathe right. You guys are better than me. And I kinda impressed my cousin by showing them Tari’s little pet. Hehe.
MASTERLIST & Taglist in bio, my love
“We’ll be landing in ten minutes. You better have something up your sleeve for these people.”
Loki smirks at Rhodey. “Is our beloved Captain going to be there?” The curiosity is laced with pure mischief. So much that even Tony can smell it from the cockpit.
Rhodey crosses his arms across his chest and tilts his head at the God. “What is it with you and Steve? You have a crush on him or something?”
Loki shrugs and leaves the silence to be taken as whatever answer they please. Giving up, Rhodey walks and seats himself down in the cockpit next to Tony, who does not seem as welcoming to the company. “What are you doing here? Go in sit the back with the Grinch.”
“Relax, he’ll be fine,” Rhodey reassures, lying back into the seat.
“I didn’t mean-”
“I know who you mean. The wizard is back there too.”
“That guy is on some meditative high floating about like-”
“Relax!”
Loki looks in the direction before easing himself into his seat. The soft streak of light coming in from ahead falls on his dehydrated and wounded skin. For a simple moment, the warmth on his face feels beautiful. It feels free. This star always had a different effect on him; to the point that Loki closes his eyes for a brief moment and soaks up as much of that warmth as it can. His Jotun form feels a different comfort for those minute specs of time and all the memories of the day he has had, float in the space of his mind. No noise. Just the inaudible pictures running at a slow pace, every grain of colour remembered just as it was. Every fire, every explosion, every tear down the eyes, every tear in the enemy’s skin, every drop of blood lost, every drop of blood avenged. The space shows it all till it brings him back on earth, in this jet, under the sun rays falling on him till he starts to feel a chill on his neck.
Loki opens his eyes and sighs, tired as he is. He knows what is the cause of his discomfort- nothing harmless. It’s just that he is still not used to the little human looking at him with the curiosity of a child with those huge dark eyes and surprisingly not scared of him or judging him unlike his father. Scratch that; from his mentor.
“I know you are curious,” Loki utters, his head still resting on the headrest of the seat, tired of life in general, “just ask what you want.”
Peter’s eyes light up, his body adjusting itself in the seat next to Loki on its own. “Oh, okay,” he begins, making Loki wonder in slight surprise how long has this kid been holding himself back, “why did Thanos use you in Battle of New York? How did he get to you? Like did he leave you a text or something or was a like a proper meeting where he called you in his dungeon? Or did he booby trap you to get there? And once you said no, did he like put some spell on you? And why didn’t you tell your brother about it? Thor would’ve helped you, right? And I heard he’d taken you back to Asgard once the battle ended. So, like, you guys must have talked then. Thor must know about Thanos too. Did you make a plan on how to take him down? Are there more necklaces out there like Doctor Strange has? What do they do? Are they here? On earth? Will Thanos be coming to earth to get them? Do we make up a battle plan to stop him? Will we be able to stop him? If we don’t stop him what’s gonna happen?”
Peter finally breathes, something Loki is surprised to witness. Such concern weighing down those young bright eyes. And to think he once had the same fervour. Once. The pocket dimension is accessed to bring out a green packet. Peter eyes it as pale fingers tear it apart from one side to reveal little violet spheres inside, their smell reaching those inquisitive little nostrils.
“Here,” Loki offers them to him.
“Kids don’t take things from strangers here,” Tony announces from the cockpit. Rhodey looks back while Strange opens one eye to observe whatever it is Loki holds.
“It’s chocolate, Stark. Calm down and fly your toy. Take one while you’re at it. It will help get rid of your anxiety for a while,” the God declares.
“It’s fine, Stark,” Strange adds, going back into his meditative pose, “it’s harmless.”
Peter has already popped one in his mouth, the expression on his face reflecting- without any filters- how good it must be. “It’s better than any I’ve ever tasted before!”
Loki smiles at him, feeling one softly crunch under his teeth. With a content sigh, he begins.
“Before the battle of New York, the last time I saw my family was when I tried to take over Asgard. I had a falling out with my...with the Allfather. And Thor. He was to be announced the king by Odin but I felt it was not the right thing to do because he was not ready to take over that role yet. So, I did what I thought the best. I conspired with the Jotuns. They are...were at one time a species bent on dominating the world, monsters in the eyes of all. I did so to delay Thor’s kingship and destroy the Jotuns once and for all. What I did not know at that time was that I...was one of them.”
“The Jotuns?”
“Yes. I was a Jotun who, when an infant, had been taken away by Odin to be raised as his own. I had been abandoned by my father because unlike those frost giants, I was weak and small and hence a disgrace to the king to whom I was born as a son. So, I was left at the alters of forgotten temples where Odin decided my fate after he won the battle against the Jotuns. I was raised just like my brother to look at the frost giants as monsters; the greatest evil of the world. Once I realised what I was, and tried to do right by...Odin, I killed my father, the Jotuns and when that did not suffice...I killed myself.”
Loki can see the emotions brewing in Peter’s eyes. He notices the silence going further than just these puppy eyes, at the foreign ears pretending to be in a world of their own but paying full attention to whatever history is unfurling around them.
“Then?” Peter is almost too afraid to ask.
“Then the universe decided to intervene,” he continues, “I was supposed to die once sucked into a wormhole. But somehow I survived. I figured it was the accelerated healing due to the Jotun blood that flows through me. Or maybe it was a magic that had long protected me from the world. Either way, I found myself on a barren moon, half alive, waiting to die till it felt much arduous than living itself. I gathered whatever strength I had to walk. And walk I did till I found the lowest of life living in the dark corners. I mixed within, to survive before I found resources to move to other planets and lay low. It was an easy task once I regained my strength. I was able to shapeshift into what people wanted to see. The underbelly of certain galaxies found my talents with magic quite useful, which got them objects nowhere within the reach of normal aliens and I got to live on the highest price paid for my efforts. They did not go unnoticed by the assassins who were looking for someone like me to do their bidding. The only downside was they belonged to Thanos and I was going to be paid in kind.”
“In kind?”
“In kind.”
“I don’t ge-oh...Oh...I’m so sorry.”
“Their kindness came with the price of my sanity. Not that I was a completely balanced being before. But Thanos made sure I was moulded into a weapon he could use to wage war on Earth to get him the stone he desired. The space stone. It was-”
“In the tesseract that SHIELD discovered with Captain Rogers,” Peter quips in enthusiastically before he absorbs the hint of amusement lining Loki’s face. “I uh...went through some of their files,” he whispers.
“Illegally?” Loki asks in a whisper himself, bending a little in the little one’s direction.
“...maybe,” Peter shrugs, making Loki chuckle. “Good boy.” The praise takes him by surprise, but it makes his eyes lighter nonetheless.
“Now, Thanos would have invaded earth ages ago if he wanted to. But he did not do it because the last time his henchmen tried to, someone had sent them running back with their tails between their legs. Some say it was a witch that glowed. Others said it was a demon. And the ones with brittle egos announced that the earth had sent a God in the shape of a woman to throw them off their guard. Of course, I thought they were making excuses until I saw it for myself.”
“How?”
“It’s a whole story for another day, child. But to be brief, Barton helped me understand a lot of this planet’s history when he was under the influence of the mind stone. And Nicholas Fury has been one busy man.”
“Son of a bitch,” curses come flying from the front of the jet, “I knew it.”
“So, I was a mere pawn in Thanos’ plan to invade earth. I was controlled and forced to bend to his wishes of procuring the stone in exchange for my life. He was inside my head the entire time I was here on earth. Except for all the moments the sceptre was separated from me. That was the only time I was able to keep a part of my conscience alive and sane enough to think of ways to survive while making sure the stones never got into Thanos’ hands again.”
The blue ocean gives way to African lands beneath them, deserts and grasslands stretching for miles. The sun directly above them makes the inside of the flying machine glow brighter, striking off every reflective surface it can find once it finds its way through the glass. And in that brightness, a thought washes away those long-forgotten anxious bugs sitting in some dark corners of Tony’s mind. The bugs that had sucked on his own rationality ever since the battle of New York. The questions he wanted to ask the God himself but never had the time or resources for it.
“It was you,” Tony declares as his dark honey eyes looked at some void in the distance outside, “you built the failsafe in the portal.”
“Of course, I built the failsafe in the portal. What am I, a monster?” Loki scoffs in Tony’s direction, clearly being bothered by the fact that it only dawned the genius now. “Doctor Selvig helped me with the restricted technology you people had and I made sure there was a way to stop the attack. And a way to stop me. And not to mention I could not have let the earth be destroyed or I would not have heard the end of it from Thor or his girlfriend.”
“Oh tone it down, Maleficent, you killed Phil,” Tony fumes.
“Oh relax, he is alive!” Loki sings back, annoyed.
The jet feels a turbulent jerk before finding its balance but throwing Strange off his. Turning on autopilot, Tony gets up and walks in the back to face Loki. “What did you just say?”
Loki can see all the shades slowly crawling over Tony’s face- anger, denial, resentment, shock, more denial, fury…
“Go ahead,” Loki challenges, “ask Fury.”
“...you killed eighty people.”
“Collateral damage. I’m not a saint either.”
Only the hum of the engine makes up for this deafening silence between these two that makes Rhodey, Peter and Strange uncomfortable. Soon enough, Tony sits down opposite Loki, taking all three of them by surprise.
“Ignoring that statement for now,” Tony narrowed his eyes at Loki, “after Thor took you back-”
“I was imprisoned, Thor’s girlfriend discovered the aether and my mother was killed, the dark elves were destroyed and Thor was given the freedom to go back to the love of his life.”
“That was you too, wasn’t it?” Tony added without a pause. “You sent Thor away. And if I’ve seen the pattern correctly, you sent the aether away and kept the Tesseract on Asgard.”
Loki lets the smirk play on his lips. He is impressed by Stark’s deductions and the same time is internally a little envious of not having met this man during a better time. The things we could have achieved together.
“Yeah,” Tony nods only slightly, giving that two-second smirk that vanishes as quickly as it had appeared, “smart move. Sending your family away. Keeping the stones apart. Thor told me his father made peace treaties when he left. So, adding to the previous list you increased Asgard’s defences in case Thanos ever came looking for you or the stones there.”
“Stop before you start sounding impressed, Stark,” Loki mentions with a gentle smile, “this colour does not suit you.”
“Rest it, daddy issues,” Tony chimes, “I’m only appreciating your strategies. Not really a fan of this persona. Never have been.”
Loki does not miss the tick in Tony’s beard as his fingers move in some calculative thought. “What has been bothering me is you had it all- every piece of information on that bastard and never once did you bother to warn anyone. Not even your brother. Do you have any idea how much lives could have been saved had you kept your fucking ego aside and tried to make amends for all the crap you put people through.”
It isn’t much but the reflection of the warm glow from the sun outside touches Loki’s eyes enough to reflect a veiled pain behind those few fast blinks and the movement of his fingers on his other palm. If hadn’t been for his own experience, Tony would have missed reading Loki’s shallow breaths, the urge to fight off the tears building in those tired edges, the sweat collecting on his neck.
“Tell me honestly, Anthony Stark,” Loki states, catching Tony off guard for a fraction of second, “Why, for the love of all things alive, did you not tell your family about the threat you saw coming earlier? And when you did, what exactly did they do?”
Tony opens his mouth just to shut it back up, a thing out of the usual for the people who know this man all too well. He stands up, turns around, only to turn back at Loki and point his finger at him, to try and speak again. And again, he fails. Hands on his hips, he clinches his jaw. “That doesn’t make us the same.”
“Oh, no, it does not,” Loki agrees, “it only shows our shortcomings. Battles on the field are much easier to run into than the battles in our minds.”
There is much disbelief internally but a part of him cannot help but look at Loki in a new light. And Tony curses this part again and again for no reason but the imminent truth that comes out of that Silvertongue.
“We’re here,” Rhodey announces from the cockpit, trying to get Tony to come back and breathe.
“Don’t listen to any advice he gives you,” Tony warns Peter, making the boy nod in uncertainty and the God chuckle in delight. Tony goes back but not before he has taken those exotic chocolates from Peter’s grasp. “First rule of stranges, kid!”
“Those are chocolates, Mr Stark,” Peter whines as he watches Tony walk to the cockpit and take a seat.
He pops one in his mouth, feeling the silken magic work in his mouth.
“You ready?” Rhodey asks his friend, “you’re going in a completely foreign country with a criminal, a magician and a whole lot of unresolved emotions with Cap.”
“Yeah yeah yeah, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it,” Tony remarks, popping another one in his mouth.
“Dammit, why are they so good!” He whispers in surprise, making his best friend roll his eyes and pray for whatever was about to come.

Days Off
@fyeahghosttrick Ghost Swap Treat for our looovely and wonderful mod, @laughingmango with a small fluffy selection of parts of the OT3. Happy Ghost Swap, my friend <3
On AO3
1.
Alma peered into the room they’d turn into a blend of studio and study. Jowd stood at a blank canvas and while his paints and pencils were out he remained still. She wondered how long he’d stood so still; it happened sometimes. He could either get completely absorbed in his work or at other times he seemed lost in his own head and nothing came out. It seemed this time was the latter.
Alma slipped into the room with a softly spoken ‘Hey,’ so she wouldn’t startle him. He made a small sound of acknowledgement but didn’t turn, letting her wrap her arms as best she could around his broad chest and lean her head against his back. He rested a hand over hers while the other remained still at his side.
“Stuck?” she asked.
“So it seems.”
“Hmm,” she thought for a moment. There were any number of possibilities, but there was generally one sure-fire way to lighten the mood. “Well, we could always call Cabanela to model. Keeping him still long enough is an accomplishment in itself if not a finished painting.” She smiled at the welcome sound of Jowd’s laugh and the feel of it rumbling through his chest.
“I thought of it,” Jowd said after a quiet pause. “Doing another series. It’s not… right. It’s not needed.” He shifted and Alma released him so he could turn to face her. “Besides,” he added, touching his temple, “present or not, he’s here. Always has been, regardless of what I had to say about the matter.”
“He has a way of that,” Alma replied warmly. He clearly had then and there was no doubt he did now. She wouldn’t have it any other way.
“He’s not the only one.” Jowd cupped her cheek and she leaned into his touch as he met her eyes. “I couldn’t hide from you. I couldn’t keep you hidden.”
“As it should be.” She reached up to ruffle his hair. Too often the gloom lurked around the edges and she would not allow them drown him today. “And you never will be able to. I’m here.” Her hand drifted down over his cheek in turn before stopping to toy with his ever-tempting beard. “So, maybe something else?”
“Oh? You have something in mind.”
“Well, how about those you didn’t paint the first time around? Sissel is always around here somewhere. And you know a few years is a long time to wait for Missile.” She smiled up at him while still winding her fingers through the ends of his beard. “I wouldn’t say no to a preview.”
“Ha, I’m afraid I only met him posthumously.” He paused then added. “Both of them. Funny how that works.” He looked distant again and Alma started to worry she might lose him to those depths after all before he gave a small smile. “We wouldn’t be having this conversation without them.”
No, they owed everything to them and she still hadn’t figured out to repay either for her life and family. “A tribute then?”
“It’s a start I suppose.”
And not a bad start. “Tribute or not, Sissel knows he has us. We’ll simply have to make sure we also spoil that pup when he arrives as well.”
Jowd chuckled. “I don’t think Lynne, Kamila, or Cabanela for that matter would settle for less.”
“And rightly so. So does that help?”
“As I said, it’s a start.” Jowd pulled her closer to kiss her before wrapping her into his arms.
She leaned against his chest with a contented sigh. This went better than her initial worry at the door. He had his painting and she had some work she’d wanted to get to but that could all wait for a little while longer. She remained in his arms, running a thumb over his hand simply enjoying the moment they had now.
2.
The early morning grew brighter as Jowd attempted to juggle the flimsy tray of coffees, small bag of pastries and the door knob all at once. None of this had been planned, but he woke early and was wide-awake despite the early hour on a day off and saw the rare opportunity while both Alma and Cabanela still slept peacefully. So, why not? The walk had been pleasant anyway.
And maybe that was the problem with a lack of planning. As he entered the house he discovered his intended surprise wasn’t going to be much of a surprise at all when he spotted Cabanela lounging on the couch, relaxed, but most definitely awake. Then again, it was a surprise he’d managed to wake before Cabanela in the first place; getting this far was a feat in itself. Alma, on the other hand appeared to still be asleep, or she hadn’t come down yet at any rate. Half wasn’t a bad result.
Cabanela craned his neck back to watch Jowd’s approach while wearing a smile that rivalled the growing sunshine outside. “Theeere you are, baby. Out for a little early morning stroll all alone?”
Jowd passed one of the coffees to him along with a danish from the bag. “A walk and breakfast.”
Cabanela eyed the decadent display of chocolate, cream and caramel over more chocolate in whatever coffee fit into the mix with appreciation and a small hum. “And you got it all right, I see.”
“Even the most complicated things start to stick after enough times.” As proven when he’d started to rattle off the long order only for the barista to nod with a knowing ‘Cabanela then?’
Is Alma still asleep?” Jowd asked.
“Sleepin’ sound and comfy when I left her.”
Jowd nodded and set aside his coffee and muffin and lifted the remainders. “I’ll bring these to her then.”
Cabanela’s eye glimmered. “Breakfast in bed. Anything else we should watchin’ for today? You’re aaalmost romantic.”
Jowd shook his head. “Don’t push your luck.”
Naturally Cabanela only sipped at his ‘coffee’ with a look of amusement in reply and Jowd left him to it.
Alma was still asleep when Jowd entered their bedroom—asleep and buried under the blanket, looking to be so for a while yet. Jowd gave her a soft smile as he placed her drink and pastry on the bedside table for her to wake up to. He lingered a moment longer in the peace and quiet before leaving to rejoin Cabanela on the couch, taking a seat beside him.
Of course staying side-by-side didn’t last and Jowd knew he shouldn’t have expected anything else. Before he knew it he had a lap full of Cabanela while Cabanela’s legs draped over the remainder of the couch cushions. One arm looped casually around to let his fingers trail over the back of Jowd’s neck. In turn Jowd rested an arm around Cabanela providing some support for his lanky mass. It left Jowd with only one free hand currently occupied by his coffee but the food wasn’t going anywhere. It had taken some time to get over how right and easily comfortable this all was—aided by those fingers working over his neck—and he wasn’t about to squander this opportunity now.
They had the whole day ahead of them and were off to a good start already.
3.
Alma leaned against the kitchen windowsill, looking out into the backyard while she finished her tea. She only smiled when she heard the front door open. There was no need to turn to know the rhythm of those particular steps and so she simply waited until she heard the cheerful “Good mooorning!” in sing-song tones that denied the morning to be anything but. Only then did she turn and found herself face to petal with a large bouquet of flowers.
“Oh!” She gave both flowers and Cabanela’s grinning face beyond the colourful display a curious look. “What are these for?”
“Do I neeed a reason?” Cabanela’s eyes sparkled with good humour as he added, “Buuut if you’re lookin’ for an occasion hooow about us spendin’ the day out on the town without any long and dreary sighs to accompany us?”
Alma met his cheer with amusement of her own. It was true that it could only be a mercy on all of them to leave Jowd out of their shopping trips. “Hm,” she said with an attempt at very serious thoughtfulness, “that is a good occasion, it’s true.”
“Now you’ve got it, baby.”
With that Cabanela twirled off in a swirl of coat and in his clearly excellent mood she almost expected a rain of glitter to be left in his wake. She shook her head in fond exasperation as he unerringly fetched down a vase—she had only just rearranged the kitchen and already he seemed to know it better than she. The vase was filled, flowers placed and the whole arrangement set neatly into the centre of the table with a flourish.
“They’re beautiful,” Alma said appreciatively. She went to Cabanela and with a gentle tug to pull him down to her level, kissed him before looping an arm around his.  Almost as beautiful as he was anyway.
“Jowd and Kamila have each other thoroughly occupied for the day,” she said, “judging by the plans I heard them make. I’m not sure who looked forward to it more, but I will be shocked if they make it home before this evening. Shall we follow suit?”
For a moment Cabanela only gazed at her, eyes warm and smiling as he took advantage of her hold on his arm to pull her in closer and with his free hand teased a bit of stray hair from her face. Alma felt that warmth course through her as well at his expression and the caress. Things had been so good since they’d settled into this new normal—free, open, happy. It had been utterly wonderful and she still sometimes couldn’t believe her luck.
“I found a looovely little shop,” Cabanela said at last when it seemed he’d finally drunk in enough of the sight of her. “They have some very pretty clothes and other things I didn’t look too close at knowin’ you’ll want to see. You’ll like it baby. What do you say to a little shoppin’ and some lunch to start with?”
“That sounds like the start of an excellent plan,” Alma agreed.
Arm in arm they left the kitchen, pausing only for Alma to grab her things, and left for an entirely pleasant day in the best company.

of comfort and joy {Ben Hardy}
Anons asked: can you write Ben as a dad / imagine staying up late to wrap presents for yours and Ben’s kids (the original prompts have been lost i’m sorry, but this goes out to you guys)
A/N: 1562 words. So this is my second attempt at this. I lost both the prompts but they weren’t super complicated, and this fills both very nicely.
Ben’s so careful as he slides the door shut to the kids’ bedroom, the hour just edging past eleven. He winces at the sound of the door latching closed, and he waits for a few moments, listening for the telltale sounds of laughter or the thump of little feet, but all was quiet on the other side of the door, and he let out a sigh of relief, coming to join you where you’d surrounded yourself with gifts that needed to be wrapped at the last minute.
“They’re asleep.” His voice was soft as he rested his head on your shoulder, sitting beside you on the floor with the sofa at your back, legs kicked out in front of him and resting on a stack of assorted labels and gift tags.
“My hero; how’d you manage that?” You asked wryly, concentrating on where you’re writing ‘To Abby, From Santa’ on a soft package that contained a Harry Potter robe and wand for your eldest daughter; Ben had been reading them the series as a bedtime story for the past few weeks, and Abby, who was always in awe of her dad, was adamant that she was a Slytherin, just like him.
“Bribery.” Ben yawned, looping one of his arms through yours, tucking himself closer to you. “The boys were okay, I mean, they’re too young to really know what’s going on, but I had to tell Abs that Santa would only write her a letter if she goes to bed on time.” And you laughed softly at that, putting the finishing touches on the label before putting the present onto the pile of wrapped gifts sitting neatly beside you.
“So how many chapters did you end up reading?” You asked, letting yourself relax for the moment, leaning against him, your head resting against his. The light from the Christmas tree showered the whole room in a warm, multi-coloured light, shining off of ornaments and the screen of the TV which was muted, playing an old black and white Christmas movie.
“Only two; we got up to the Death Day party and she was out.” He sounds so fond when he says it, warm and kind, and he yawns again, letting out a low hum of contentment. He relaxes further against you.
“Honey, there’s still so much wrapping to do, you can’t fall asleep yet.” You say, gently shaking him, and he groans, before he moves to actually turn his head and look at you.
“You’ve been working so hard to get all this ready, can we just relax for a little bit?” He asked, so wide and bright you can see the lights from the tree reflect off of them.
“Just for a bit.” You could never say no to him.
He wraps an arm around you, pulling you close to him, and you rest your head on his shoulder, letting yourself relax in his arms. You turn up the volume on the TV enough to be able to hear the end of the movie, but not enough to wake the kids. The heater in the corner of the room has you feeling warm and blissful, even as you watch snow flutter down onto the town outside through the window behind the television. It’s hard to find in the holiday season, but you’re going to hold onto this moment of peace and love with everything you’ve got.
When the movie ends, Ben gently untangles himself from you, standing, stretched, and turning the TV off.
“I’m gonna make us some hot chocolate, give us a boost to wrap the last of these presents before we head to bed, okay?” He says, and you reach out, taking his hand and squeezing it in wordless thanks. When he squeezes your hand back, smiling fondly, you can feel your heart flutter like it did when you’d first started dating all those years ago.
“You’re so good to me.” You murmur over the lip of your mug, eyes falling closed as you bring the warm drink close to your chest, inhaling the aroma of chocolate that rose from it. Ben pets your knee softly, and when you open your eyes, he’s sitting across from you, legs crossed, one hand on your knee and the other holding his own mug. He’s looking at you like you’re the only thing that matters in the world, haloed by the tree, expression so full of unbridled love and affection it’s almost overwhelming.
“’cos I know how lucky I am to have you.” He says, and it’s moments like this that remind you why you married him in the first place. Gently, you take his hand and press a kiss to his knuckles.
By the light of the Christmas tree, the two of you go about wrapping presents for your friends and family. The majority, of course, are for your kids; wrapping them at the last minute was easier than worrying that they’d tear into them before Christmas, or try and sneak a peak. Abby, the oldest, almost seven and forever a daddy’s girl, loved anything Ben did, also Frozen; Micha was four and has never met a robot he didn’t want to marry, though he didn’t understand what the word meant when he announced it on a daily basis while holding hands with a transformer action figure; Roan had just turned two and liked the colour red.
“Do you think Abs is old enough for a present hunt?” Ben asks where he’s sorting stocking stuffers. Looking up, you’re confused, and he looks a little shocked, “you’ve never had a present hunt?” When you shook your head, his mouth split into a nostalgic grin. “We had them when I was a kid; you hide a series of clues around the house and the kids follow the clues to find a hidden present.” His laugh was fond, which turned to a thoughtful hum as he reminisced, “I rode my bike all around the neighbourhood one year, dad really went all out.”
“Maybe not around the neighbourhood.” You grinned, and his whole face lit up when he met your gaze. He’s up after that, so giddy he’s practically bouncing as he swans around the house with the sticky tape, writing and hiding clues as he went, ending up with Abby’s gift stashed in the back of the pots and pans cupboard next to the oven. When he comes back, he tapes one last clue to a bauble, hanging it at the back of the Christmas tree, proclaiming it to be the starting point. After that, he settles back in, filling the stockings that hung over the mantle, and helping you wrap the last of the presents.
When everything’s done, you feel the exhaustion settling into your bones, and you take a long moment to stretch. All the presents are wrapped, sitting neatly beneath the tree, and the heater’s been turned off, and all that’s left to do is put all the wrapping paper, tape, and labels that you’d commandeered for the occasion.
“You head on to bed, I’m just writing this letter for Abby.” He said, looking up from where he was leaning over a notebook, to see you waiting for him in the door. With a soft smile, you nod, and head to your bedroom, quickly getting changed into your pyjamas and sliding into bed. He follows not long after, but instead of getting changed, he sits onto the bed beside you, grinning and holding out a neatly wrapped box with your name on it.
“Merry Christmas, love.” He says gently, and you look from the box to where he’s smiling at you, nervous and excited. You’re lost for words, heart overwhelmed with love as you start to unwrap the present.
It’s a photo frame, silver, with metal vines decorating the outside, and space enough for two photos. The photo on the left is from when you first visited him on the set of X-Men Apocalypse, probably taken by a crew member. You’d never seen the photo before, but you know it’s the two of you; he’s got his arms around you, the two of you all but nose to nose and so blindingly happy. He’s in costume, wearing a leather jacket with his hair long, curled and teased, and you’re pushing a small strand behind his ear. The two of you are so wrapped up in each other, and he’s grinning at you like there’s literally nowhere in the world he’d rather be than in your arms.
The photo on the right is from your wedding day, in the same position as the other photo, his arm around you, you with a hand holding his cheek. It’s as if you’re not even aware of the photographer, blissful and elated and in love.
“This was so long ago.” Voice soft and awed, you look up from the wedding photo to see him looking at you with that exact same smile you remember so clearly from when the two photos were taken; the smile that made you feel like the only person in the world. “I love you, Ben.”
“I love you too; there’s no-one else I’d rather by my side to raise our family with.” He says, and you think you’re about to cry, so overwhelmed at the sincerity and sweetness that it’s all you can do to lean forward and kiss him.

MASTERLIST
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Megan Padalecki was not at all how you would have pictured Jared’s little sister. You weren’t sure what you expected, but it wasn’t what came bursting forth your front door. Charlie was immediately up from her seat on the sofa situated in front of the fireplace. She had been reading but the sudden intrusion into your house was enough to have her flying across the room.
“You ought to check if your front door is locked next time,” Charlie muttered under her breath.
“Ah, Jared, you can just put all my stuff over, uh… hm, let’s seeeeeeeee, yeah! That table right there!” A perky brunette pointed over to the bare dining table. You had been sitting across from your sister, picking at the fabric of the couch. Your eyes roamed over to the petite girl who was now bossing around the older Padalecki who looked apologetic. He was carrying totes of things, left and right arms full of things you were afraid to ask about and he promptly set them down by the table.
Charlie, alert and standing defensively between you and the new arrivals, questioned, “Padalecki? What are you doing?”
Jared put a hand at the back of his head, a shaky smile gracing his features, “I’m sorry, my little sister can be kind of…intrusive.”
Charlie didn’t let her guard down all the way, but relaxed her posture. A hand shoved him out of the way and the younger Padalecki stuck out her hand, a toothy smile on her face, “I’m Megan Padalecki! I’m so grateful for an opportunity like this, you really have no-”
“Megan!”
“Sorry!”
You stood up, fully intending to get a better view of his younger sibling. A smile graced your lips when you realized she was probably no older than you and that maybe she would have the same kind of attitude towards you like Jared had. Her brown almost green eyes landed on you the instant you came near and her waist bent at 90 degree angle so quickly, you weren’t sure she was okay.
You just held out your hands and nervously provided, “You-you don’t have to bow! I’m no royalty!”
She slowly came back up, pink dusting her cheeks, “Sorry! I just- Jared told me about the whole dress ordeal and I was just so happy that the legendary Y/N Ackles would even think about asking me! I’m just an ameteur and I’m not a big designer and-”
“Megan!”
“I’m sorry! I talk a lot when I’m nervous.”
“You talk a lot even when you’re not,” Jared interjected and Megan shot him a glare. He turned, whistling a tune of nonchalance. Charlie snickered into her hand.
You smiled at the scene. You hadn’t smiled that genuinely since your time shooting cans with Jared and Misha and it felt good to stretch those muscles again.
Megan turned back, a bright smile plastered from ear to ear. “I am Megan Padalecki, Mrs. Ackles. Wait, I think I’ve said that already, huh?”
“Just Y/N is fine. This is Charlie, she is my-”
“Sister, pleasure. Just ignore me,” Charlie said suddenly and you cleared your throat.
“Uh, yeah, I’m really glad you could come so fast. I had a problem with my original designer. She, um, I didn’t agree with some of her suggestions.”
“Big brother here told me all about it, Y/N. Don’t worry, I think you’re awesome. I mean, I don’t know you well, but from what Jared has told me, you’re just as nice as Danne-”
“Megan!”
“I was just telling her what you told me!” She turned her head away from you to narrow her eyes at Jared. He shook his head in disbelief, more than likely wondering why he opened his mouth about Megan in the first place.
The small brunette hopped over to the totes and began prying the lid of the first bin in front of her. Through the clear plastic, you could make out colorful cloth and other miscellaneous items that of which you couldn’t make out.
You only hoped this would turn out much kinder than your time at the boutique. Megan pulled out dress after dress, once neatly folded now being tossed on the table. She kept digging and prying out colourful pieces of cloth and humming to herself, all the while Jared shook his head.
He took a moment to fully turn to you with an apologetic and almost defeated look upon his face. You weren’t sure what to make of the expression. He spoke with a firmer conviction than the emotion plastered onto his gruff features, “Megan doesn’t mean any harm, Y/N. If she does offend you, you have my permission to scold her.”
You gave a nervous chuckle, tilting your head to the right slightly, “I’m sure that won’t be an issue.”
“Thank you,” he said, softer. You looked and the mossy green in his eyes shone with genuine gratitude. “This… really means alot to her.”
Megan exclaimed suddenly, spinning back around with a dress in her hand and a pencil behind her left ear. She held up the fabric and then peeked above it. Her grin stretched from one ear to the other and she giggled out, “This! This one! This one will be perfect for you! You have to try it on!”
“Right now?” You asked, stunned. The gown was eye catching, simple but beautiful with the intricate embroidery extending from the waist down.
Megan’s gaze flickered to her older brother, “Right! Jared! It’s girls time now! Help me carry the boxes into the room!” She threw the gown over her arm before walking over to pull you towards the spare room.
Following his sister’s request, Jared carried the items into the room and was then pushed out of the room by Megan.
Charlie had flung herself into the lounge chair in the room. Megan scurried over and held the gown to you, “Oh! This will be perfect. You don’t mind, do you, Mrs. Ackles?”
You shook your head no, “Really, I really prefer if you dropped the whole Mrs. Ackles part. It’s always been awkward, especially since I don’t think we’re that far apart in age.”
She blinked, taking a moment. “Right. Sorry, I’ll try to be less formal. I’m just nervous, I mean, this is my first time designing a dress for someone so important. Oh! I swear I’m not horrible! It’s just I’m still starting out, but I’m not a bad designer… at least I don’t think so…”
You placed your hands over hers before saying, “I’m sure anything you come up with will be better than the designer before you. I can probably guarantee it.” You tried to be a little less ominously vague but it didn’t work.
The younger Padalecki titled her head to the side, “Well, at least now I can rub it in Jensen’s face later, yeah? That reminds me, he’s almost as annoying as Jared, ya know? I’m sure you do, you guys are married! I’m an idiot!” She scrunched her eyes as if she was embarrassed for even forgetting.
You tensed a little.
Right.
They were Jensen’s friends.
You cleared your throat, “Um, yeah, Jensen and I don’t really… talk much.”
Megan’s eyes went wide, “Oh! I, I didn’t…”
“Don’t apologize. It’s not your fault.”
Her cheery expression shifted into one a bit more thoughtful. “He’s not a bad guy. He’s a little upset. I swear if he doesn’t come around sooner, I’ll just whack him in the head and tell him not to be a dick!”
Her hand clapped over her mouth fast as lightning. Her hazel green eyes wide as saucers and then the apologies came spewing ut through the cracks in her fingers and she pulled her palm away.
Charlie let out a loud laugh, her hand hitting the lounge chair repeatedly with tears forming in her eyes. You laughed at the petite girl’s words, “I mean, you’re not wrong.”
Her lips curled into a devilish smile as she let out a relieved chuckle.
Megan had you try on a dress - one in similar design, but one she had already designed before, something to give you an idea of what to expect. It was light and airy, the fabric danced in the air when you twirled, it cut off before your ankles and flared out at the hip. You would have been content on wearing this dress, but Megan was hell-bent on providing you something no one else had worn before. The neckline was modest without sacrificing how it complimented the wearer’s figure. Charlie had even walked over to better examine the dress, helping make sure the back clasp was secure in the back.
You asked, suddenly, “Did you design this by hand?”
“Y-yes. It was for my friend;s garden party last spring. You have really nice shoulder, I might consider making it off shoulder for yours,” Megan mumbled to herself before adding a few sketching lines to her sketchbook.
“It’s beautiful. I can’t wait to see how mine will turn out,” you smiled, spinning in front of the mirror, testing out a few poses, something Megan hadn’t expected you to do as she sat mouth a lit agape. You stopped and apologized, cheeks red from embarrassment.
She shook her head, “No, no! I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. I didn’t think you would be this… nice? That was rude, I’m sorry, i mean-”
“It’s fine, I get it.”
“No, it’s just you don’t seem as high strung as everyone thinks you are. Jared would sometimes talk about you when he would meet you during events. He told me you didn’t talk much. I just thought he meant you were stone cold stoic, but now that I’ve met you, I admit I was wrong.”
You sighed and let your body relax. “Truth be told, I was nervous to meet you too. I thought I was going to have to repeat of what happened at the boutique today.”
She quirked her mouth up. “Hm, I think maybe they just don’t know you as well as Danneel. Don’t worry! I’ll be one of your friends, okay? I’ll tell you any story you wanna hear about Jensen, any embarrassing ones I know are all fair game!”
You nodded your head and laughed. “I’ll be sure to ask one of these days.”
Charlie jokingly added, “Let’s braid each other hair now!”
“Don’t tempt me,” Megan said, smiling despite your sister’s unending supply of sarcasm. Your laughter was cut short by the door opening.
All three pairs of eyes snapped to the direction of the door. It doesn’t take long for you all to realize it was nothing more than a face you’ve seen before. In fact, the sound of his voice brought a smile onto your lips.
Charlie was quick to her words, and waved her hand, “Can we help you with anything, bigfoot?”
“Yeah, what d’ya want?” said Megan, all the while throwing her older sibling a suspicious glance.
“Don’t you have something important you need to do?”
Megan mulled over her brother’s words in her mind, trying to piece together what he was talking about and then she cringed. Turning to your direction, “I’m so sorry, YN! I totally spaced out! I have to leave before I can start on your gown!”
She snapped back up and told the taller sibling to give her a hand with things as she scampered about the room. “I, sort of have exams this week. Like, a bunch of them, heh.”
When Jared’s eyes finally landed on you, he looked as if all breath had been punched out of his lungs. “Whoa…”
The room’s attention fell to you now, as the commotion of the room antics slowed to admire you. You felt like you were on a stage, a nervousness befell you as red painted your cheeks. Megan beamed, “I know, right? Almost brings a tear to your eye how scary good I am.”
Jared snorted at that, earning a rightful smack from his little sister. He chuckled and then put his hand behind his head and lamented, “It’s unfair Jensen gets all the cute girls.”
Megan kicked her older brother with her foot, “Jared!”
“Right, sorry. I’m probably just a little jealous of Jensen.” He laughed it off and helped with the boxes before you could comment on it.
You stepped in to try to help, but Megan nearly tackled you, saying, “We got this! You don’t have to, Y/N!”
You felt useless as they packed away everything and with arms full of totes again.
Jared stopped by you before heading out the door, “I know Jensen will come around. He’s not himself lately, just… I hope you both get to be happy.”
“Thank you, Jared,” you supplied. He nodded and said goodbye to both you and your sister.
Megan lingered a little to give you a tight hug, a welcomed gesture. You almost felt sad letting go. “I’ll be back before the party, okay! I promise to keep you updated on the dress!”
“What about this one?”
She looked you over, “Keep it, take it as our friendship gift. Next one will be even better!”
She followed her brother out the door after giving one last goodbye. The room was quieter now.
“Better watch out, sissy, I think bigfoot’s got a crush on you,” Charlie chuckled.
“Where was he when I was single?” You tried to joke. Charlie laughed again.
“See? That’s the sister I love and remember. Now, I almost feel like I’ve cheated you out of an experience. Maybe if I had let boys talk to you…”
“Would that have changed anything?”
“Maybe not, but maybe you wouldn’t look so rigid every time someone mentions Jensen’s name.”
It was almost like you were conditioned to tense up at the mention of him. You couldn’t help it. You dreaded him, the mere mention and your body remembered that you were a burden to Jensen.
Charlie followed your eyes as they hit the ground., a frown replacing any instance of a smile. She furrowed her brow, “He’s really did a number on you, huh? Listen, you can tell me, he didn’t… hurt you, physically, I mean. He didn’t…”
Your gaze snapped to hers and you shook your head. “N-no, Charlie, it’s nothing like that - he hasn’t- what- no! It’s not that. He… hasn’t touched me. At all, actually.”
“What are you saying? You two haven’t… seal the deal?”
Your lack of response was enough.
“Hmmmmm, the picture is coming into focus now.”
You scoffed, “Sex is not the issue! The unwanted, loveless, arranged marriage is!”
Charlie shrugged, “Well, I can bet that if you were having really great hate sex, you two could make it through this relationship. I mean, you take your little victories where you can, right? Reap the benefits and whatnot.”
Your face had turned every shade of crimson by now. You couldn’t even-
Sex! Ha! With Jensen? He hated you! That was impossible! Unbelievable!
Charlie didn’t grasp the concept of He despises me and doesn’t even look at me like anything but an obstacle in his way to Danneel!
“I- I am not like that!” You managed out a flustered response.
“Right, of course, you’re a good girl. Oh c’mon, you haven’t even thought about it? Think of it like a silver lining!” Charlie laughed at how cute you looked flustered.
You started ushering her out the room, “That’s it, I’m going to take a good long bath and sleep!”
Charlie laughed as you kicked her out of your house, begrudgingly saying goodnight. She winked at you before disappearing into her car and down the road, leaving you flustered and warm in the cheeks.
Of course you had thought about Jensen. You were a normal girl, anybody would have done the same, he was far from unattractive and when you and first crossed his path he had charmed you into a trance.
Circumstances changed though.
From blushing admirer to unwanted wife, who would’ve guessed?

It’s been quite some time since my last, and only, Loot Crate review but I’ve finally received my second box. For reasons I shall call: UPS is a very unreliable delivery service in my neck of the woods, I have still not received my October box. The very nice folks at LootCrate were very quick to respond and immediately arranged for a replacement to get shipped out. I must say, whatever else you may think of the product, my customer service experience was fantastic.
I am really looking forward to receiving that October box since I’m a fan of a lot of the series featured but in the meantime, I’ve received the November box. I guess the title sort of made that obvious huh…
Now onto the part everyone actually cares about – the goodies! These boxes are always centered around a theme, but I have to level with you guys – it’s often pretty random. For instance, November’s theme was “Besties” – oh my wherever are they going to find anime with strong themes of friendships? No Hunter x Hunter is not featured ☹
My photography skills have clearly not improved
I’m not sure why I always take a picture of the packed box. Maybe it’s because I’m a child and I get really excited when opening boxes. I’m thinking I can transfer some of that excitement to you through pictures (?)
First thing that caught my eye was this Seven Deadly Sins Hawk eraser. At first, I thought this was a paperweight – it’s super heavy for some reason. I haven’t seen Seven Deadly Sins but it is on my to watch list and from what I know it sounds like something I’d enjoy. Obviously, I haven’t used this eraser yet for its intended purpose, so I can’t tell you how good it is. I don’t think I will. I don’t use pencils all that much anymore and it’s just too cute to ruin. This will probably be a decoration/paperweight somewhere in my home office. I wouldn’t have bought it but I quite like it and who knows maybe Seven Deadly Sins will become one of my favorite shows and I’ll be super psyched to have this.
I got excited thinking this was a T-shirt. I have a T-shirt problem. I buy them constantly and I wear suits at work, so I just end up stockpiling apparel. I really don’t need anymore T-shirts. I was really disappointed this turned out to be a knapsack. This said, I live in a country where one does often have to carry indoor shoes with them (lotsa snow) so I’ll get some good use out of this but I just don’t find it that exciting an item. ED After I put in on the dog, I thought it actually looked pretty cool. I likes it more.
I might be one of the few anime fans in the world that has completely missed out on K-ON. I haven’t seen or read any of it at all. I can’t recommend this manga on content but as far as quality goes it’s quite impressive. Last box featured an exclusive edition of Soul Eater vol1, which I absolutely adored because…Soul Eater! And as great as that manga was, this one seems more luxurious.
The cover and paper quality are all visibly above average and as you can see there are several full color pages throughout the volume. (Not just a centerfold or a few pages at the beginning. I am looking forward to reading this in the bus and having people quietly judge me.
This month’s illustration is by Renée Park and although it is a charming picture, I wonder why they chose a girl quietly reading by herself to illustrate “Besties”. Unless they’re saying that cat is her best friend which I can relate to. This said, overall the illustration invokes calm and relaxation much more than friendship.
They have these phone charms in every box and as much as I think they are useless trinkets (and they are oh so useless), that don’t even use known characters, I’ve actually grown to quite like them. I tie them to purse straps or zippers. They’re these tiny little general anime themed decorations that allow me to subtly flaunt my fandom without getting in the way or making me commit to any particular show. I also have an unhealthy love of accessories and these play into it.
And just like last time I’ve left the best for last:
If anything is going to make these subscriptions worth it, it’s the exclusive figures that come in each box. I hadn’t really gotten into figures. Like I said I love the apparel and my house is generously decorated with anime prints all over the walls but for some reason figures were never really my thing. Which is why I was surprised by how much I just loved the GinTama figure in the August box.
not my picture
It just makes me happy every time I see him and I’m not even that huge a fan of the series. Since then I’ve picked up quite a few more and now I get super excited for them. This month we had a model of Madoka in full magical girl outfit. I do like it but less. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s the face details or the colours. It’s a nice figure and I’M really happy to have it but I don’t get the same excitement out of it as I do with my other ones.
I liked this box, but I think I preferred the August one. Since notebooks have taken over my life now that I have this blog, I got a lot of use out of the Kobayashi diary. I still would have preferred lined, but I love the cover so much. I keep all my notebooks (I have no clue why) so I’m happy to have this one lying around. I also ended us using the Bungo Stray Dogs pouch as a pencil case that I throw in my work bag. But all in all I’m not disappointed.
Next month is a mixed bag series wise:
Batman? underdog?
The Long Shot. The Dark Horse. You may be underestimated but they definitely shouldn’t count you out. In December, we’re rooting for the UNDERDOGS with all EXCLUSIVE items from My Hero Academia, Black Clover, Saint Seiya and Batman and The Justice League!
I really hope the big item is from MHA. IF I ever do receive it, I’ll post some horrible pics for you guys.
LootCrate Anime November 2017 – First impressions It’s been quite some time since my last, and only, Loot Crate review but I’ve finally received my second box.
