one silver lining of our collapsing world order is that scifi and fantasy writers will maybe be moved to put some fucking thought into how farming & food systems work!!!
#I am plagued and bedevilled by the question of ag bot from the murderbot diaries still#you know who would never betray me in this regard? Ursula k Le Guin#the mvp#that was a writer who knew the importance of food security#war in the ancient world was constrained by harvest season because societies did not have the technology to produce enough surplus food#to feed a professional standing army. there simply wasn't enough FOOD for full time war. everyone had to be involved in food production#so. what is the technology and or magic here? how many people are labouring to support your protagonist who is NOT#visibly participating in agriculture#and if the answer is a lot - do we get to hear from them at all???#tbf tolkein was not BAD in this regard either. he had a bit of a tendency to forget about rations when actually describing battle fields but#he was VERY concerned with ecosystem degredation.#but u gotta know that changing the food systems technology HUGELY shapes the world order ur portrying!#not 2 be a fucking marxist or anything#...............why does agbot look like a giraffe. perplexed. bedevilled. haunted by the question of ag bot#me fein#agriculture#where my solarpunk bitches at
