King Slayer DIPA, Buxton Brewery.
King Slayer DIPA, Buxton Brewery.
As you can appreciate from the beers namesake, this one isn’t going to leave you high and dry with a poor finish. The brewer isn’t going to give up after years of sculpting a fantastic product and turn in a half-assed result. I am of course talking (again) about Game Of Thrones….some wounds never heal. Like having your sword hand cut off! King Slayer DIPA from Buxton Brewery does not suffer from…

Buxton Brewery King Slayer Double IPA (Picked up at a Tesco in London). A 3 of 4. A relatively straightforward Double IPA that delivers a nice mix of citrus and tropical fruit in the nose, some herbal/resinous qualities behind it, and a balanced body that ends up firmly bitter. The medium, slightly sticky body carries it all quite well.

Germany vs Sweden
Germany vs Sweden. A highly entertaining match and sneak preview - this contains one of the best beers I've sampled all year
A European match up. Germany (current world champions), who suffered a shock loss to Mexico in the first round of games  – check here for those beers, face up against Sweden. Both countries not only deserve to be at the finals in Russia, they are also known for creating great beers.
Mandatory “Berliner Pilsner” Facts
Untappd Rating: 3.05 (at time of writing)

Achthundertachtes Bier:
Buxton Brewery Myrica 4,9% vol. Buxton, UK
Gutes Sommerbier. 7/10

Buxton Brewery’s Generation V Brett DIPA (Picked up at de Bierkoning in Amsterdam). A 3 of 4. Smells of mostly floral and citrus hop notes with just a touch of yeasty funk. Not incredibly funky in the nose, but there are some decent barnyardy notes in the smooth, clean body. Not all that bitter, nor that complex of a hop profile, but has some nice Brett character to it.

Buxton King Maker (10.5% abv)
I do so love Derbyshire’s mighty Buxton Brewery. Prolific creators of beery wonder from many a style so they are, but it’s rather predictably their IPA’s and stouts that really send my heart aflutter. This beautifully labelled creation is their first new DIPA since the mind alteringly good Double Axe and my expectations were quite ludicrously high. A thoroughly Shakespearean double IPA, King Maker is a lupulin splattered muddle of whole limes, mixed citrus zest, papaya, wind tussled grass and flower petals, brambles, and earthy evergreen flavours. Semi sweet into hella bitter and with more of a warming booziness than I expected from Mr Stronge and the brew goblins. The body’s full and mouth coatingly oily and there’s a returning sweetness that lingers an age after the beer’s gone down.
Aye, its certain blend of tropical fruits and spicy, herbaceous hop notes isn’t as suited to my particular sensibilities as other DIPA’s of late but that’s just a personal thing and I’ve always struggled a little with Sorachi Ace. But wotevz, this is a tasty, intense, and somewhat brutal broadsword to y'r face hole and entirely worthy of respect. Lest it splits y'r head in half all ~(*_//*)¬ like.

Siebenhundertneunundneunzigstes Bier:
Buxton Brewery King Slayer 8,0% vol. Buxton, UK
