Holistic Cloud Open in Bellaire

If you know Bellaire's Bill Schmitt Jr., then you know he's a fierce advocate for marijuana legalization. Given his birth date is on April 20, one could insist he was born into it. He was the driving force behind the move to decriminalize possessing 200 grams or less of cannabis within the village, resulting in a ballot measure the residents passed in 2016. He's aided similar efforts in towns big and small across Ohio. While recreational use statewide isn't legal, medicinal is. Medical marijuana contains THC. It requires a specialized physician's prescription and a trip to a dispensary. CBD, though, does not contain THC. It requires a trip to 3048 Belmont Street in town. There you will find The Holistic Cloud, Schmitt's CBD shop offering alternative and natural remedies for those looking for a safer way to combat pain and other ailments. Safe to say, the response has been positive thus far. “It's gone absolutely amazing,” Schmitt admitted of his first week. “The first day we did $2,200, $1,100 the second day, $724 the third and we haven't looked back.” His only advertising thus far has been the store's Facebook and web pages, along with word of mouth, but when you have credibility in an industry, word travels fast. “Everyone knows me from all the legalization cannabis work that I've done and I have a pretty good following,” Schmitt said. “People know that I pride myself in quality products and they know they can get that here, as opposed to say a gas station or Walmart or online. “Getting your CBD from a credible source is very important.”

CBD More Readily Available than Medicinal

Medicinal marijuana is legal in 33 states and counting. Eleven of those states also legalized recreational use. Here in the tri-state area, only medicinal has been approved, with Ohio and Pennsylvania already up-and-running while West Virginia is dragging its feet, slow to bring its program from the conceptual to the operational. Ohio lists 21 diseases and conditions eligible to receive a medical marijuana card. It also requires an in-person evaluation by a physician, and only certain medical professionals across the state can administer such an evaluation. There are none in Belmont County certified to do so according to Ohio's state medical board, and the closest certified doctors are in Wheeling and Steubenville. The appointment isn't free and it isn't cheap. If you are approved, you can only receive your product from state-certified medical dispensaries, and there are two in Wintersville. The next closest locations are Coshocton and Marietta so proximity problems limit the options. But what if you don't have one of the qualifying conditions but do suffer and would benefit from cannabis-based products? Or, what if you live in West Virginia and are tired of waiting around for the program to get up and running? That's where CBD can come in. The main difference between CBD and medical marijuana is the absence of THC in CBD products. THC is the chemical compound that causes the euphoric “high” generally associated with marijuana usage. CBD, therefore, isn't as tightly regulated and can be found in CBD shops like Schmitt's, in gas stations, big-box retailers, and even online. But Schmitt cautions just buying your CBD from “just anywhere.” “There is such a learning curve when it comes to CBD and THC products and those (other) options can't really direct you or explain the products as well as a real CBD store,” Schmitt said. “Go and get some valuable information about your medicine.”

The Holistic Cloud offers a number of CBD products, from tinctures and edibles to patches and creams. It even offers hemp cigarettes for tobacco users looking for a safer alternative to aid in smoking cessation.

A Natural Alternative to Opioids, Both Legal and Illegal

To say that the Ohio Valley has an opioid problem is a severe understatement. Centers for Disease Control numbers show West Virginia as the statistical leader in drug overdoses nationally at 57.8 per 100,000 residents. Number two is Ohio, at 46.3. Care to guess number three? Yes, it's Pennsylvania at 44.3 That's a lot of people overdosing on heroin and prescription pain pills. But it doesn't have to be that way, Schmitt insists. “I want to bring all the various forms of CBD to help the health of this area,” Schmitt said. “Ohio is number two for opioid-related deaths. West Virginia is number one. We need some natural, holistic health. CBD and natural plants are something that can really benefit people.” Schmitt knows first-hand the healing power of both cannabis and CBD oils and products. He qualified for his medicinal card, suffering from chronic neck and back pain from multiple vehicle accidents. But he never took prescription pain pills but instead chose to walk a more natural—and safer—path for his pain management. “I never took pills and strictly used cannabis,” Schmitt said. “I've watched people around me die and pass away using pills for injuries and I didn't want to be that guy. I want to be the one to throw the life raft out there to help save people that start going down that opioid or pain pill road.”

Schmitt recommends finding the CBD product that works best for you as everyone is different and what works best for one person may not perform the same for another.

Find What Works for You

So, you're ready to try CBD oil. The first thing you'll discover is there are A LOT of options available to you. From tinctures and edibles to hemp flowers, drinks, creams, patches, and even vaporized products, where does one begin? Which works best? The best way to find out is to experiment. Each person's body will react to CBD products differently and what works best for some may not be as effective for others. “I encourage everyone to try different brands as well as different forms of CBD,” Schmitt said. “For me, I can do a tincture or edible of a couple of hundred milligrams and I'm good. “If I used a 50 mg drink it will destroy me. I can take four times as much in a different form, but any drink I have destroys me.” Schmitt gave the example of someone using a 1,000 mg tincture to treat elbow or shoulder pain. It works and helps the rest of the body, but, that same person could be using a 10 mg patch applied directly to the problem area that would be much cheaper than the 1,000 mg bottle. Again, experimentation is key. Find what works best for you. “Not everyone knows about the different forms,” Schmitt said. “There are nasal inhalers, hot cocoa, transdermal patches, I have caramel popcorn, breath spray. “The reality is any product that is out there in the world you can incorporate CBD into it. Most vaping-related lung injuries linked to marijuana products, CDC says

State health officials said Friday that many patients sickened with mysterious lung injuries used black market marijuana vaping devices, offering the strongest clues so far into what might be making people sick.

Officials in Wisconsin and Illinois, the states that were the first to report cases, conducted in-depth interviews with 86 patients who said they used a wide range of e-cigarette products. The vast majority reported using illicit products containing THC, the psychoactive component of marijuana. The products were sold as prefilled vape cartridges — tiny disposable containers — and obtained from informal sources, officials said.

Nearly 70 percent of those patients said they used Dank Vapes cartridges, which appear to be predominant in a class of “largely counterfeit brands with common packaging that is easily available online and that is used by distributors to market THC-containing cartridges with no obvious centralized production or distribution,” according to a report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday.

Other brands identified by people with the lung injury include TKO, Off White, Moon Rocks, Chronic Carts and others. Industry experts said many THC products on the black market come from distributors who buy empty cartridges, fill them with THC mixtures, then purchase packaging with those brand labels.

Amid growing alarm about the lung illnesses and increases in youth-vaping rates, states are rushing to enact bans and restrictions on vaping products. On Friday, Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee (D) directed officials to impose an emergency ban on flavored vaping products — both nicotine and those containing THC. The governor told the state Board of Health to vote on the ban the next time it meets: Oct. 9. He also said he would push legislation to make the prohibition permanent.

Earlier this week, Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo (D) signed an executive order barring the sale of flavored e-cigarettes throughout the state. State officials said the regulations would be effective for four months and could be extended for another two months. In Massachusetts, Gov. Charlie Baker (R) announced a four-month ban on all vaping products. Michigan and New York also are banning flavored-e-cigarette products.

Other states, including Virginia, are considering similar action.

On the federal level, the Food and Drug Administration is preparing a ban on flavors in nicotine e-cigarettes that was endorsed Sept. 11 by President Trump. Administration officials have said the ban would prohibit retail and online sales of flavored vaping products except for those that are tobacco-flavored. The order is expected to be finished in the next several weeks and go into effect 30 to 60 days after that. It would effectively remove flavored products from the marketplace until, and if, they get authorization from the FDA.

Both the state and federal actions could be delayed or blocked by legal challenges.

The Vapor Technology Association, a national trade group, along with two New York-based businesses, on Wednesday sued to try to stop the New York ban. “Banning flavors for vapor products, while leaving all flavored combustible products on shelves can only entice all users to smoke more,” said Tony Abboud, executive director of the group. In Michigan, the owner of a vape shop filed suit in a bid to block the flavor ban of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D).

In the marijuana industry, vaping cartridges are among the most popular items in both the legal and illicit markets, industry analysts have said.

Officials have said there is no single e-cigarette or vaping product, brand or specific substance that has been definitively linked to the growing national outbreak. Patients have used many kinds of products with a wide array of ingredients, some of which may have been mixed with potentially illicit substances, such as marijuana.

But the predominant use of prefilled THC-containing cartridges among patients who have been sickened “suggests that they play an important role” in causing the outbreak, the report said.

So far, 805 cases have been reported in 46 states and one U.S. territory, and at least 12 people have died.

Nationally, CDC officials said most of the people in the outbreak, or 77 percent, reported using THC-containing products or both THC and nicotine-containing products. That is the “most prominent link across all patients,” said Anne Schuchat, the CDC’s principal deputy director, during a briefing with reporters.

The data from Wisconsin and Illinois, which Schuchat described as “very compelling,” along with more information from a national snapshot of patients who fell ill, prompted the CDC to modify its warning Friday. The agency is urging people to consider refraining from using any e-cigarette products, especially those containing THC.

At the same time, even though evidence is “pointing to greater concern around THC-containing products,” Schuchat said officials don’t know whether that is the “only risky substance for lung injuries.”

“We are in the midst of a complex investigation that is encompassing nearly all states, and involves serious, life-threatening disease in young healthy people who have reported the use of a wide variety of substances and products,” Schuchat said.

Officials don’t know whether the illicit THC-containing vape cartridges associated with injuries in Wisconsin and Illinois are also linked to cases elsewhere. The FDA, which has been testing samples collected from patients, has not yet provided results on what substances were in the illicit cartridges collected from Wisconsin and Illinois patients. Patients obtained most of their illicit THC products from informal sources, including friends, illicit dealers or off the street, said Jennifer Layden, chief medical officer for Illinois’s health department.

Some teens who regularly use THC vape cartridges say they are aware of many counterfeit products. One Northern Virginia high school senior said he relies on his regular supplier, who graduated from the same high school, to buy products from legal dispensaries in the District, where recreational use is legal.

“I’ve smoked with him and smoked his stuff with him,” said the 17-year-old student, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to be candid.

Officials also don’t know whether there is a particular solvent or adulterant in one product, whether there are multiple products, or whether there are multiple brands involved, Schuchat said.

Officials have said they suspect the cause of the lung disease to be some kind of chemical exposure. One key focus of investigators is vitamin E oil, known as vitamin E acetate. Experts in the legal marijuana industry have said it has been used in the marijuana black market to stretch out THC oil that is used to fill vape cartridges. It is colorless and odorless, has similar viscosity to THC oil, and is much cheaper.

Vitamin E acetate, which is sold legally, is commonly used as a nutritional supplement and in skin-care products. It’s not harmful when ingested or applied to the skin. But health officials have warned it could be hazardous when inhaled, potentially causing the sorts of symptoms many patients have reported: cough, shortness of breath and chest pain.

Vitamin E acetate has been found in THC products taken from sickened patients and tested by state labs and the FDA’s forensic lab, officials have said.

The national investigation now includes a criminal probe by the FDA and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Officials are not pursuing individual vapers. But the FDA is investigating whether individuals are manufacturing or distributing illicit, adulterated vaping products that caused illness and death for personal profit. That would be considered a criminal act, officials said.

In a second report released Friday, CDC officials provided more detail about patients and what they reported vaping. More than two-thirds are male, with a median age of 23. Of 514 patients for whom officials had information on what they vaped, 395, or about 77 percent, said they used THC-containing products, with or without nicotine-containing products; 82, or 16 percent, said they exclusively used nicotine-containing products.

Is CBD Oil legal in all 50 States?

That is the $64,000 question and the true answer is that it depends on what plant it was derived from. CBD or Cannabinol is a compound found in the Cannabis Sativa family of plants. It is vital to understand that there are two distinctly different subspecies of the Cannabis Sativa plant; Hemp and Marijuana.

THC and the Federal Government

While both the Hemp plant and Marijuana plant belong to the Cannabis Sativa species of plants, one has a far less THC content than the other. The exact amount will depend on the specific variety of the Marijuana plant, but in general, there is a concentration level of at least 10%. When it comes to the Hemp plant, there is .3 % or less concentration of THC.

This is why the Federal Government does not classify the Hemp plant and any product derived from it to be illegal. As long as the THC concentration level is controlled and kept below .3% it is not covered by any federal ban.

Hemp-derived CBD Oil – Legality standpoint

Since the Hemp plant is legal in all 50 states any product that is derived from the plant is deemed to be legal. The key is to ensure that the cannabidiol used in all products contain .3% concentration of THC to be considered 100% legal. The fortunate part for the companies that deal in CBD and the Hemp plant is that unless the plant has been altered, there is no way that the CBD Hemp Oil will contain an illegal concentration of THC.

Marijuana-derived CBD Oil – Legality standpoint

There has been a lot being reported in the news about the increased evidence the marijuana may just have more medicinal uses than once believed. This has led many states to pass laws that allow the possession and use of a certain amount of marijuana (a.k.a medical marijuana) to medicinal purposes. CANNABIS CURES CANCER AND THE GOVERNMENT HAS KNOWN SINCE 1974

Cannabis is labeled by the US Government as a Schedule 1 Narcotic, meaning little to no known medical value. (Even though the US Govt holds patents that state otherwise) Marinol, which is APPROVED BY THE FDA, is synthesized THC.

Millions of people are sitting in jail for using Cannabis raw, but it’s ‘perfectly fine’ to use the plant if the Government and their corporate owners take most of the medicine out of it, then get to charge you an arm and a leg for it. Why is that? I shall explain.

The US Government is well aware Cannabis has medicinal properties. How could they not? It’s been used as a medicine for at least the past 10,000 years. Even in America, Cannabis was used as a medicine for over 100 years. It was in over a hundred over the counter medicines for a wide range of reasons. Everything from pain and nausea medication to sleeping tonics. (Why did they make it illegal? It’s a long story so I won’t go into it today.. Among the reasons you will learn about on the link I shared above, the US Government has even more reason to keep it illegal today. If Cannabis were to become legalized, it would eat away at TRILLIONS of pharmaceutical profits over the years. (Not including other profits like the billions they get for keeping our privately owned prisons full.)

What most people don’t realize is, the Government(s) have been helping the major pharmaceutical companies stonewall natural cures for decades. (Cannabis is merely one of many they have tried to bury and discredit) In fact, the US Government has known since 1974 that Cannabis cures Cancer. In 1972 Richard Nixon wanted a larger budget for his war on drugs.

He thought that if he proved Cannabis caused lung cancer like cigarettes do, he would get the support he needed. He gave the Medical College of Virginia 2 years to do a study on the effects of Cannabinoids (such as THC and CBD) on the body.

In ’74 the study was completed. It turns out, when ingested in highly concentrated forms (such as eating Cannabis oil) the Cannabinoids in the oil will attack any mutated cells in your body while strengthening and rejuvenating the healthy cells. They accidentally found the PERFECT cure for Cancer!

It worked fast, it worked well, it worked on many different forms of Cancer in ALL stages and it had ZERO harmful side effects. (Unlike Chemo which deteriorates your entire body and kills 1 in 5 patients. Not only that, but other research shows it dissolves ALL forms of tumors and can even combat super-bugs like MRSA.)

When Richard Nixon saw the results of the study he was FURIOUS. He threw the entire report in the trash and deemed the study classified. In 1976 President Gerald Ford put an end to all public cannabis research and granted exclusive research rights to major pharmaceutical companies, who set out — unsuccessfully — to develop synthetic forms of THC that would deliver all the medical benefits without the “high.”

We only found out about the study a few years ago thanks to dedicated medical and law professionals who filed Freedom of Information Requests. The Government lied for many reasons.. One of the main reasons is Pharmaceutical Companies. They spend billions every year lobbying to keep Cannabis illegal because they make TRILLIONS off Cancer drugs and research. They are already well aware that Cannabis cures Cancer. They have a well thought out con going at the moment.

Cancer patients and their loved ones will spend their entire life savings or even sell their houses and businesses in order to pay for Chemotherapy and other Cancer treatment drugs. A lot of the time they spend all that money and their loved one dies anyway. If the public found out that the Government has been lying for over 40 years, that MILLIONS of lives could have been saved and that the dying could grow the cure they so desperately need in their own backyard… We all know the American public would be going nuts over it.

US Patent 6630507 states unequivocally that cannabinoids are useful in the prevention and treatment of a wide variety of diseases including auto-immune disorders, stroke, trauma, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and HIV dementia. The patent, awarded in 2003, is based on research done by the National Institute of Health, and is assigned to the US Dept. of Health and Human Services. In the age of information, they can no longer keep their lies about Cannabis afloat.

Here are 20 more studies proving Cannabis cures Cancer. Please note that these are by no means the only studies that prove it. There are in fact several dozens.

In case you are wondering the difference between a few things like Hemp oil and Cannabis oil, I figured I’d explain that too. THC, CBD and other Cannabinoids are soluble in alcohol and fats only. This is why people saute it in butter and use it in things like cakes and cookies. You can make Cannabis Ghee (which is essentially Canna-butter) and use it how you would normally use butter in a recipe.

Cannabis oil is made by crushing raw Cannabis in grain alcohol (as close to 100% as possible), straining it and cooking off the alcohol VERY carefully. All you will be left with is essentially ‘pure medicine’ in highly concentrated form.

Hemp oil is made by cold-pressing the seeds of the Hemp plant and extracting the healthy oil within. It is used for things like food and fuel, but it will not cure cancer because it lacks THC. (Hence the reason it’s legal to buy at places like Trader Joe’s)

Now, I realize how badly some people are going to want to get their hands on Cannabis oil for their suffering loved ones. I’m sorry to say, the only place you can get the oil is from Cannabis dispensaries in areas where it is sold legally. Otherwise you have to make it yourself which can be highly complicated and even dangerous since you have to worry about alcohol fumes and legal repercussions if you get caught. (Here’s a video that shows you how)

Still, in my opinion it is well worth the risks since it has already saved THOUSANDS of people (and pets) from horrible deaths due to diseases like Cancer. When you do, you will see how many people are trying to get the word out about this AMAZING cure.
