Day 5 Bleach (anime) Challenge: Favorite Character from the 13 Court Guard Squads

Impossible to choose just one lol. So I'm choosing five. First is Kenpachi Zaraki, second is Renji Abarai, third is Shuuhei Hisagi, fourth is Toshiro Hitsugaya and fifth is Byakuya Kuchki. I just love all 5 of them because they are all incredible fighters. All of them are strong in their own ways.

Ichigo Kurosaki

Our man is really respectful and tries to do the traditional thing of letting you sleep in his bed and he take the couch on nights that you sleep over. Not that he doesn't want to be close to you, Ichigo just doesn't want to deal with his dad's perverted questions and praise.

Can he commit to that decision? Absolutely not.

It's probably just past midnight when he sneaks into the room.

"Good, you're awake." Ichigo would say even if you were completely knocked out.

He's so great at spooning. Like so good at it.

Man has such long arms and he holds you so close too himself that his arm almost wraps around you twice.

Don't think he won't sneak out to come see you!

Post fighting, Ichigo only wants you to bandage him up if possible. Some things need to be handled by a professional, but the usual scrapes and bruises he wants treated by you.

For many reasons. Mainly because it's an excuse for you to touch him and you're so gentle about it he loves it.

Not to mention he'd be all, "I just fought for my life! Least you could do is give me a kiss!"

It takes forever to get him fully taken care of because all he really wants is to have you in his lap and kissing him.

Byakuya Kuchki

Beautiful and intimidating. That's what Byakuya is on the surface.

And it's unnerving to have him watch you any time you're within his sight.

Everyone tells you that he looks at you with admiration, but how would they know when his face never changes??

It's so true though. Byakuya wants to approach you, but you know how it is in the court...everyone's always busy! He has to watch you closely to see when you're free!

That's why he shows up randomly to your quarters. (Something he makes a habit of until you inevitably just tell him you'll move into his.)

"Captain." You greet him with a bow.

"Do you think I'm handsome?" He asks in the most casual tone you've ever heard. If you had tea in your mouth you would've spat it out.

"Uhm...yes. I think you're very handsome Captain."

He's closed the space between you now and reaches his hand out. "Let me treat you to dinner."

Did I mention when you're standing behind your own captain Byakuya is nkt paying attention to a single word that's being said.

"Captain Kuchki, I hope you've heard what is to be expected of you."

Byakuya doesn't even break eye contact with you, but agrees. "Of course. It will be done."

He's a man of few words so his love language is physical touch.

Some may consider it bad for his image to have his hand wrapped around yours all the time. Could possibly make him look "soft".

But who is going to tell him otherwise?

You often give his hand a squeeze to let him know you're fine and don't need him to step in.

Heaven bless anyone who shows you disrespect.

If anybody values quality time it's this man.

Hes also not afraid to show his affection in public.

"There's my sunshine." "How was your meeting my love?" "Stunning as always I see." "You light up my world."

All of that said within 30 seconds of seeing each other. It's almost embarrassing.

At home, you wear his favorite kimono. You want to obviously, but Shinsui also asks you to.

The reasoning is that you make it a good luck charm when you wear it.

It also smells like you and when he's laying about it puts a smile on his face.

You have a lot of quiet, intimate moments with Shinsui.

Those mornings where you're up right as the sun rises is the best.

Breakfast is served, the tea is hot, you're both sitting across from each other in the most comfortable silence you could imagine.

Shinsui pauses to just stare at you. You raise your eyebrows in question.

"Nothing. I just realize every time I look at you how much I love you."

Are we acting like Byakuya isn’t a fashion icon? He constantly had the best outfits out placed together.The scarf ? The gloves ? Let’s not forget his version of the Captains cloak with the gold tinsel and accents suited to his figure? And let’s not forget the iconic, multipurpose and style TYBW outfit

I just wanted to share this revelation my friend and I had. We thought about how Byakuya must of been a kind sweet soft hearted child + plus his legendary temper (as we have seen in the flashback arc). Byakuya must of loved his father and his father babied him and let him do whatever Byakuya liked. So when his dad died his grandfather was probably like “ stop fooling around like this, you are the Kuchki heir, start acting like it” so he shuts down on Byakuya’s free time and makes him work constantly. With lessons on how to be a proper noble, politics, training and other things. So when Genrei didn’t have the time he had Ukitake and Kyorakyu, Yoruichi and perhaps Kaien take over his training and stuff. So there’s a huge probability that they were also hard on Byakuya, pressuring him to be better and training him harder because he’s to been clan head one day and a squad captain. He wasn’t babied. So when I see how Kaien and Ukitake treated Rukia kindly and how Yoruichi is kind to Ichigo I thought, damn. They all must of been hard on Byakuya, but easy on the others. Like how the first born sibling is pushed more by their parents while the younger ones get off easy. So maybe Byakuya internally is like “I got bruised and yelled at by Elder brother Kaien but Rukia gets taken out to lunch ??!” That’s it, just Byakuya not getting any candy from Ukitake as a child and had to do training from dusk till dawn nonstop while Rukia gets the cherry flavoured lolipop and nap time and byakuya just :( about it

This. uh. sure is a take.

I. um. disagree with basically everything you have to say here? I think the most fundamental problem is that you seem to think that Byakuya hates working hard and resents the adults in his life that made him work hard? That seems... fundamentally at odds to my entire conception of Byakuya, a guy who is extremely proud of his position and family, and takes his obligation to become strong and protect Soul Society extremely seriously.

1) Just because Soujun is described as "kind" doesn't mean that he spoiled Byakuya and let him goof around. He's actually still alive in the Turn Back the Pendulum arc (at least the Bleach wiki says the MASKED databook says so-- I don't happen to own that one. He's def in the splash page that I think is from that book that has all the captains and lieutenants from that era). Anyway, Byakuya was 2nd in line for clan head, of course he's gonna go through a hefty regime of training and education, and it makes sense that Ginrei had a hand in his upbringing even before his father's death. It's a little hard to get an emotional read on that scene where Ginrei shows up to watch him train in the manga, but in the anime, it's pretty clear that Byakuya loves and admires his grandfather and wants to both look good in front of him and spend time with him (unfortunately, the only clip I could find is both sideways and dubbed, but here it is)

2) Why would Ukitake, Kaien, and Yoruichi be responsible for his noble training (they are all in other noble houses??) It's fanon that Byakuya served in Squad 13 once upon a time. I happen to love this idea, but I've never seen any canon argument for it (I think Ukitake is referred to as "his mentor" once, which is where people got the idea, but that could mean a lot of things). Anyway, all three of the people you mention are far more casual people than Byakuya. If anything, they would be trying to get him to chill out from his natural inclination to drive himself too hard. Yoruichi gets on his nerves because she doesn't take things seriously enough.

3) Byakuya??? resents??? that people are nice to Rukia??????? I'm sorry, this is just nonsense. And if that were the case, why wouldn't he just pull her out of Squad 13? Or he could levy his own harsh standards on her. Also, I think one of the major things that Rukia and Byakuya have in common is the degree to which they have high expectations of themselves and drive themselves hard to achieve them. In any case, at least at the beginning of Bleach, I don't think Byakuya thinks about Rukia as a person at all, let enough cares about her to be jealous or whatever this is.

I mean, you can write any kinda fanfiction you want, but I feel like you've made yourself sad here over a scenario which is a huge stretch and out of character for nearly every single person involved.

“W- two worlds”

Ichigo Kurosaki- A resident cardiac surgeon,whose father is a famous webtoon artist,gets dragged into the webtoon that his father has created.He stumbles upon Rukia kuchiki, The lead protagonist of the webtoon and chaos ensues.

the webtoon, takes place in edo period of japan, Where Rukia Kuchiki is sister of a powerful warlord Byakuya Kuchiki.Born in a simple middle class family, Rukia was adopted into the kuchiki family due to her sister’s marriage to the Kuchiki clan head, Byakuya Kuchiki. she faces the trials of becoming a Kuchki. Her strong character quickly becomes famous among readers and within no time, “ W” - becomes a famous webtoon.Ichigo himself loved the character.

one night, Rukia’s entire family was murdered,with no clue of whosoever had done that.despite facing accusations, trials of murder and punishment from the king, she proves herself to be innocent and takes  the reins of Kuchiki clan and starts hunting out for the Murderer that killed her family.

In her attempt to apprehend and take vengence against the real culprit,she spearheads a “ project W” that involves part of Kuchiki-clan Private army which rivals modern day special forces.Despite her failure in catching the real culprit, a number of cases were solved by the “project W” that spreads peace among the people of kuchiki land.one night,she recieves information from one of her spies about the murderer.she gets severely injured in the fight with the same murderer.

Ichigo learns from his sisters that his dad went missing.worried for his safety, he quickly reaches to his father’s house and gets shocked to see on his father’s tablet, a dyeing Rukia. while attempting to read a note left by his father, a hand suddenly extends out of the screen and drags him. he finds himself infront of the original Rukia Kuchiki.He manages to give her an emergency treatment, before the medic of kuchiki clan arrives and takes Rukia away. Ichigo sees the word “to be continued” in the air .he finds hinself back to the real world in his father’s studio. alarmed by the turn of events , he checks out the new “W- “ episode and is shocked to find the entire scene he had experienced with rukia to be real. 

the story continues, with Ichigo appearing in Rukia’s world whenever her character is endangered, which starts happening more and more frequently.

Ichigo relooks into all the files and notes his father had kept regarding W and finds out that Rukia’s character was supposed to end after her family was murdered.Isshin , at that time, due to masaki’s death,was emotionally unstable, and decides to end manga.he draws a suicidal situation where Rukia kills herself by jumping into river.but when he woke up in the morning, he finds himself surprised, seeing Rukia clinging to the bridge as if she was against the ending.he continues the series, which becomes a blockbuster and famous through out the japan.

Isshin kurosaki turns up mysteriously in his office and strongly insists to Ichigo that he created a new character based on him and that he drew a new episode and sent it to publisher himself. Ichigo questions his father , how he exactly know what he decided to wear, since the same dressing appeared in webtoon.Ichigo finds out his father knows that webtoon was indeed alive and he himself believes that the webtoon was alive.

Isshin, however fears that Rukia kuchiki turned into a monster for vengence and decides to end her character. but due to Ichigo’s connection with rukia, he gets dragged into the cartoon when Rukia’s life was endangered and successfully saves her character from his father’s attempt to kill it.Rukia realises that Ichigo is the key to her life. at the same time, she becomes suspicious of his sudden appearance and dissappearance.in her world. she confronts him about it, where Ichigo surprises her by kissing. he deduces that he can only leave webtoon based on change in Rukia Kuchiki’s feelings.

later, Ichigo gets dragged into webtoon and Rukia brings him to her manor.Renji, rukia’s right hand firmly believes that Ichigo knows something about the killer.otherwise,it wouldn’t have been easy to learn of each and everytime Rukia was attacked and come to her rescue. He firmly believes that Ichigo Kurosaki might be the Murderer they have been looking for.He ordes his men to capture Ichigo and sends him to the king’s prison. Rukia scolds renji for not telling her about the incident and rushes to meet Ichigo. there, she questions him how he appeared whenever she was in danger.she warns him that his only way out of this prison might be the truth. Ichigo honestly answers that this was a webtoon created by his father. Rukia finds herself believing , because, Ichigo describes each and every detail happened in her life so far. Ichigo gets back to the real world .when rukia realises that everything Ichigo told was nothing but truth, time stops in her world and she regretfully realises that it was the consequence of knowing the truth. a rectangular shield appeares infront of her and she passes through it, finding herself in the real world for the first time.

she goes to Isshin’s studio, where she confronts Isshin . assuring him that she wasn’t a monster and she needed to find the criminal who killed her family, she pleads him to tell who the culprit was. Isshin, moved by her pleas, tells her that Aizen Sosuke,her past mentor, was the real culprit. thanking Isshin, she decides to go back to her world, determined to end Aizen. before leaving the real world, she meets Ichigo at his hospital and kisses him, implying that she harboured some feeling towards him. he reutrns the affection enthusiastically.she bids him goodbye and leaves for cartoon world .

Ichigo learns what happened to rukia and asks his father to get him back into the cartoon to help Rukia.But the webtoon no longer followed Isshin’s command. Ichigo and Isshin finds out that Aizen took control over the cartoon world and its upto Rukia to save their world.

meanwhile , In cartoon world, Rukia finds each and everyone of her plan being thwarted by Aizen before she could implement it.She was betrayed by Renji, who turns out to be one of Aizen’s henchmen.She finds out that Aizen hypnotised some of her people to his side.she comes to a conclusion that, for a manga to end, either the protagonist or the antagonist must die.if she was dead, there would be no reason for Aizen’s existence for he was created on a sole reason to kill her. She wills herself to sacrifice for the sake of people inside and outside of the cartoon world.

she prepares to go to Aizen by herself, deciding to end the manga, before it could get out of hand or worse, Aizen could discover the world of living.she thinks of Ichigo one last time and prepares herself for sacrifice.

Ichigo comes back to cartoon world and tells rukia that she could’nt sacrifice herself. she needed to fight Aizen.Rukia tells him that she couldn’t and had no chance of winning against him.this would be the best choice. Ichigo tells rukia that Aizen had discovered about the real world by visiting his father in real worls and tells rukia that Isshin was killed by Aizen.Horrified and clearly enraged,Rukia along with Ichigo reaches place where Aizen was situated.working together, they bring down  Aizen and Ichigo becomes fatally injured in the process.

Rukia takes him back to the world of living and nurses him back to health. clearly guilty over the fact that she was the reason for his father’s death,she leaves him once he was totally recovered.she draws ending to cartoon,showing Ichigo Kurosaki forgetting everything about Rukia kuchiki.

finding there was no return to manga, she adapts to the real world.after 17 months of torturous loneliness, she once again encounters Ichigo Kurosaki, who remembers everything upon seeing her. he tells her his feelings towards her and the emptiness he felt past 17 months despite him not remembering her. he tells her that his father’s death wasn’t her fault and proposes her to marry him.

unable to hide her feeling any longer, she accepts his proposal and marries him.

and they share a happily ever after!

Training

After returning to the thirteen court guardsafter years of being away Ryoko was taken back. His first day back was like the first time that he was ever there, and in teuebtorist fashion he wanted to site see. He started at the offices of each of the squad and seeing him they smiled politely as he went about his rounds.

Though he wanted to stay and look around the area he knew that as a newly appointed person in one of the court guards squads he needed to train. The academy was closed and many of the units were using their training grounds. The only area that seemed abandoned was the training grounds for. The squad of the head of the Kuchki clan . Lord Byakuya wasn't known for his kindness but he was over all a fair man so if caught the man hoped for liancy. Taking his place on the ground Ryoko took and began to meditate focusing only in his power and it's flow into he felt a presence.

He passes through his training with a single-minded determination, determination to succeed.

He is driven – more so than the freezing snow, or lashing sandstorm.

This alienates him from his peers. Where they joke and laugh, and pace themselves, he breezes on ahead, so eager to leave the last remnants of his childhood (even when he is an adult already) in the past.

He blends into the shadows, quiet and unseen, yet always waiting, always there, eyes and ears open to the world.

There are bright patches here and there; if he is careful to edge his way around the twisting rotten roots of old-world politics.

And then, one day, the brightest star of all practically falls right into his lap.

‘They were bare legs,’

How they met did not matter.

How they fell in love cannot be explained.

Two such very different people, but perhaps she set his soul alight? Perhaps she blazed bright enough for the both of them? It had to have been something special for worlds like theirs to collide.

Or perhaps it was something as ordinary as can be.

We are all stories in our own right. Unprinted, unbound; just wild words dancing on the winds of time. Theirs was not written down, and so we will never know.

But it was special. Because it was theirs.

‘entangled in dirty bedsheets;’

It was not proper for a noble to marry a commoner. Not proper for a man with such standing as Byakuya to turn away every eligible young lady in the seireitei and set his cap at a girl like Hisana. But he did it anyway, saw something in her that nobody else could see.

Anybody with a brain should have seen this coming, for all his icy exterior, he was (grudging) friends with the Shihouin empress – the flash goddess Yoruichi. For all his cold stares and frigid words, his zanpakuto was a shimmering example of beauty bound up in a deadly dance. For all his birth and breeding, he had the heart of a poet and the soul of a romantic.

How could he not defy all, and shatter the rules for a girl like Hisana.

He chose her, and she chose him.

Was that all that should be needed, for them to be husband and wife?

One might think so.

A red string might have bound their fates together, a blessing from the Gods.

But the Gods have no power over free will, or self-destruction.

And even fate, embroidered with delicate red, cannot guarantee a happy ending.

‘She was a girl made of shattered stars,’

Hisana is bright and alive. She refuses to be stagnant like the noble clans, who can wait patiently, play out games of politics while the universe passed them by.

She is vibrant in her own way, incapable of sitting still.

There is a gentleness to her, one that was learnt, it did not come to her naturally.

Or perhaps it had once, before life had taken that from her?

There is a titanium spine, and an iron will hidden beneath her smile too.

She burns so fiercely, and searches relentlessly. She never says what for. But she is a girl a woman on a mission.

[He worries sometimes, that she will work too hard and burn herself out.

He did not think it would be so literal though.]

‘but the stars were burning out;’

It starts with an extra hour in bed every morning. Before she had been up with the sun, but she was tired these days. Long nights, longer days. Desperate longing, the confusion and grief and self-hate that had taken root in her soul was destroying her.

Souls are delicate things; tough and resilient and near impossible to truly break, but delicate all the same. They were not designed to be at war with themselves.

And Hisana is fighting a losing battle.

‘And he was the night,’

…

His love is not enough to save her, and oh how that burned. How that stung.

Why was it not enough?

[“I'm sorry for being so dependent on you even in the end.” She says, and he wants to protest. She has never been a burden; her illness is not something she can help. The illness saps her spark away, leaving an echo of the woman he loves.

“I'm sorry for not being able... to return the love that you've given me whole-heartedly.” She tells him, and he wants to protest. He’s seen the love she shows.

It’s in the soft smile she gives him in the mornings, it’s in the movement of her arm when she pours tea for him on a winter’s night. It’s in the sound of her footsteps as she approaches him with a blanket when he’s been up late working on paperwork.

“The five years in which I spent with you... were like a dream... Byakuya-sama...”

‘Don’t leave me,’ he wants to beg.]

Why couldn’t she have asked for help? He would have done anything she could have asked.

But she did not ask, not until she breathed her last breath. A whispered plea, as the tiny spark inside her flickered in the wind, and then could not last any longer.

And then he was alone.

‘left blank and bare…’

What was the point in anything, when Hisana’s body dissolves into reishi? Because for all that he had loved her, really and deeply truly loved her with a fire he had not thought to possess; she could not allow herself to return that love. Had thought she did not deserve something like that.

What a silly woman she had been.

Had. The thought chokes the breath in his throat.

Everybody deserves to be loved, at least once in their lives.

And so, decades later, he walks through the halls of the Academy on an errand and passes by a girl who looks so much like his beloved.

If he were an ordinary man, perhaps, he might have been a storm of thoughts and emotions – all coming together like lightning and thunder and waves twisted into a tempest and locked away in an ornamental tea pot.

But Byakuya is a law unto himself, and he soldiers on with a relentlessness bordering on dangerous.

And then the next morning, he sets out to adopt his beloved’s little sister for his own.

Rukia – Rukia who dances through her zanjutsu kata with a serene grace, Rukia who was raised in the rukongai as a peasant – becomes a Kuchiki, and Byakuya wonders if Hisana would have been happy.

[Unseen by mortal eyes, the red string wrapped about his wrist does not flutter listlessly, but waits patiently, as strong and bright as ever, for his soul to collide with hers once more.

Silly Shinigami, Fate sighs. Whoever said that death was the end?

It is not. They will meet again, will write their own destiny once more.

Maybe they will learn from their mistakes. Maybe then, they will get it right.]

I used to hate Hisana. Her last words were so cruel (in my opinion). But Coolio101 made me think.

And I wonder... maybe Hisana thought she didn't deserve Byakuya's love. Maybe she heard the whispers and saw the glares, and just didn't have the strength anymore to ignore them. Maybe she wanted him to hate her so he would move on and find love again. Maybe she didn’t want him to mourn her for the rest of his life.

The truth is, I don't know. All I know is he loved her. And that's enough for me.

Love isn't always fair. It's not always beautiful. It doesn't guarantee a happy ending.

But it's ours. It's human. It's imperfect. It's the soft smile when you say goodbye, it's having the kettle on the second somebody is through the door, it's putting a blanket over someone's shoulders… it's letting them fight their own battles, and wrap their own bandages. Love is a thousand different indescribable things, unique to its owner.
