Ben was running... He couldn't look back, he couldn't stop... He couldn't go back to living with his brother... but he was lost. He knew he was in Brooklyn. He crossed the bridge on purpose... but he'd never actually been to Brooklyn. Hell, he'd never been out of Manhattan at all. As night started to fall, the more lost, and the more nervous, he got. He had no idea where he was going, but he would NOT be going back to the Refuge or to his brother.

"Ritz! Get back here!" Mac ran out into the streets of Brooklyn just outside the Brooklyn lodging house. Bedtime was never easy for their littles, but usually Ritz was easier than the rest. Unfortunately, wrangling them all in from playing was a difficult feat tonight. Soon enough she had the nine-year-old wrangled under her arm, ready to go in for the night when she saw him: an older boy, maybe 13 or 14 running in the night looking afraid. She looked around for anyone chasing him, but didn't see anyone. "Hey! Are you alright?" Mac called out, coming down the street towards the boy.

"Or maybe, is there world ending or am I just being crushed from immense guilt of something that was my fault like, almost ten years ago." Darcy was fully referring to the accident with the fire she'd caused with her friends after their high school graduation, but that was only for her to know because as far as the town was concerned, it was some electrical issue in the house they were in.

Darcy realized just what she said so she tried to quickly saved herself. "I mean, yeah... adulting. It sucks. Anyway! Yes, I would love that!"

"That's something I ask myself a lot," Mac admits with a scrunch of her nose.

"Is the world really ending, or do I just feel that way because I'm an adult with more awareness of the world and too much access to information?"

Mac pulls the bag out of her backpack.

"No, they're funny gummies, you know? I got them from the dispensary -- they're peach ring flavored if you're down. We can split it?"

BTW, if you've never had both Loghain and pro-templar Hawke at the same time, there is some FANTASTIC unique dialogue... I wish I could remember the exact wording because I can't find it anywhere... but it starts out with Hawke talking about all the things that Loghain has done wrong in his life and then Loghain says, "I see. Atrocities are your purview alone? You killed every mage in Kirkwall."

Mac shakes her head, getting down on her knees and wrapping Johanna into a hug. She's not stupid. Never stupid. Stubborn maybe, but not stupid. Mac squeezes lightly. She knows she's a little bit of a mess, but she can't help it. Johanna's her sister. Thought not of blood, instead by love, Mac has to keep her safe. Needs to keep her safe.

She nods at Johanna's request, letting go reluctantly. Johanna's dehydrated after all. Mac quickly grabs the water from their table, handing it over. "The water will help," she says sitting on the floor next to the couch. Mac rubs at her eyes, leaning her head against the side of the sofa, able to rest and relax. Johanna is okay. It's all okay. "We can always go out later."

doctors have always scared her, even before fogg's where she was commonly dismissed by members of the medical staff when she pleaded with them. it left her with the need to be as compliant as possible ( if something is wrong or if she does feel uncomfortable, what if they yell at her? ) and be as defiant as the birds that sing every morning despite all the loud city noise around them. clearly, that more defiant side has found its way out of her this morning. but this isn't a doctor, this is her friend.

giving a small, if somewhat tight smile, she shakes her head. ❝ i was being reckless. it's alright. i'm being stupid again. there's nothing wrong. ❞ sometimes, johanna thinks she's going to die. her body isn't strong enough to keep her alive and carry a baby, is it? ❝ see? i'm lying down now. i'm not going to move. ❞ she pauses. ❝ um, i know i just promised i would stay here, but i would like, um, some water? you don't have to give it to me, though! i'll be fine without! i feel fine now. i could probably just get it myself. ❞

People will be out here complaining that repressed or traumatized gay characters not getting together as quick and simply as they want them to or taking a lot of time to figure themselves out in guilt-ridden or unpalatable/unconventional and toxic ways is bad rep, as if Catholics don't exist in real life

Mac's breathing is raspy, and she's exhausted. Anthony already had to carry her from the couch to her bed. What had started as some sniffles and a headache on Tuesday morning had blossomed into a full array of flu symptoms by Thursday noon. Despite her better judgement she had trudge through her classes, taken her organic chemistry exam, and sat through her nursing classes. But enough was enough. She had already emailed her professors for tomorrow and found coverage for her shift on Saturday.

Mac needed to rest.

She didn't even make it to dinner time before falling asleep on the couch. Johanna had been playing with her hair, her cool fingers against her hot forehead soothing her to sleep. The next thing she knew, Anthony was carrying her to her bed and Johanna was covering her with her blanket. "'m sorry 'm so much trouble," she mumbled, a bit disoriented. "Should have listened and stayed home."

"Maybe it's because I didn't go to school here, but this has been making me feel younger." Felix laughed. He supposed suddenly having a kid to look after made you grow up pretty damn fast so it was nice to feel young again even if he wasn't old himself, at twenty-seven.

"I'm afraid to ask you how old you are, because if I'm older than you and I'm feeling young and you're not, I'm going to feel like maybe I should feel old!

"The only thing this is doing is reminding me how much older I've gotten since my actual prom," Mac admits from her seat at a table, taking a long chug of punch to hydrate herself.

"I thought for sure I'd at least have until my ten-year reunion before I started to feel ancient. How you holdin' up?"
