Curled up in the passenger seat of her friend’s car, Maia didn’t know how long she had been asleep for. The hospital had let her out early on one condition; she had to rest for as long as possible and take it easy. In Maia’s mind resting wasn’t an option and she had been quick to say yes to Javier when he���d asked if they could hang out. She didn’t exactly know where they were going but with no intention to talk to anyone and a long drive, she’d soon found herself falling asleep. Her face was still pale and she still looked sick, she only hoped that she wouldn’t start to look as terrible as she felt. “Where are we going?” Maia asked now, keeping her eyes closed.

Sal needed smoked paprika. He was completely out and though he did have regular paprika, it wasn’t smoked paprika, and it did make a difference. Quite unusually, he hadn’t even noticed he was out until he took all his ingredients out and now they’d all been left abandoned on his countertop while he ran to his preferred (dare he even say favorite) grocery store. Standing in front of the spices, he was scanning through the names in search of the smoked paprika when he felt someone else nearby and instinctively looked up. Recognizing the face, he gave a slight nod.

It had been a long day for Evelyn and she was just tried, she hadn’t really had time to herself at all since the day started that she as finally free to relax and do nothing. She was walking around campus, it was something she did to calm herself down and relax and just do nothing or worry about nothing. Finding a spot on a bench she sat down and looked around her realizing how quiet it was and she was happy to be doing so because it was definitely something she needed. Sitting there she heard voices and she recognized one of them but she was hoping it was her imagination and it wasn’t who she thought it was. She sat there and just sat comfortably waiting for the voices to go but they just didn’t seem to go.

Julien was grateful for the offer. This was why he could never imagine leaving Clearwater -- he had so much support here, whether it was personally or professionally. The people were Clearwater were some of the nicest he'd ever known. Even the city was sizable, every single resident felt like family. "I appreciate that, really." He tilted his head to the side, considering, before speaking again. "I'm genuinely thrilled that this event has turned out well. I hope you find even one thing that's enjoyable for you today, JR. Take a break from working so hard today. That's an order from your Mayor."

"From one extreme to the other. I get that." Javier chuckles, shaking his head. Heh ad definitely made some life changes after he and his ex split, some more successful than others. Not that it was quite the same. Though he had lost fellow soldiers and other teammates through the years, he could never understand what Julien went through with losing his wife. "I'm sure you have people who help you with all that sort of stuff, but if you ever need a second opinion, I'm all ears."

Mal clapped a hand on Javier's shoulder. "Just send me a text whenever you'd like to join. We'd be happy to have you." Usually running was a solitary activity for him, but having someone else along would be a nice switch up. He thought back to his boot camp days and how much having someone beside him had motivated him to get through some of the tougher exercises. "Feel free to drop in whenever. Can't really go wrong with a treadmill or some free weights. It's not the same as being outside, but these summer days are just too brutal."

"It really is." Javier replies with a smile, nodding his head. Being a father was the best thing he ever did in his life. He might not have always been the best dad, but he loved his kids in a way he never loved anyone else. "Yeah? I'd like that." He smiles at Mal's offer, making a mental note to take him up on it one of these days. "Having a project helps pass the time." Javier agrees, chuckling along with Mal. "I'll probably drop by when it's too hot to run outside. I'll take a treadmill and some air conditioning over heatstroke any day."

"I don't know. I prefer the more floral blends." A sly smile spread across Andrea's face as she teased. It was her duty as the younger sister to pester her older brother in any way she could even if it meant poking fun at his tastes in wines. Truth be told, there was nothing wrong with the blend they were currently tasting. "Yes, I have to remind Yarrow, but honestly, she's more likely to show up than I am. Don't worry, though," she rushed to clarify, "I have the entire evening already blocked off in my calendar."

"This one's nice." Javier muses, swirling the wine in the glass he was holding. He meant more than the wine too. Getting to spend a couple of hours relaxing with his sister was a treat in of itself. They both often got caught up in their respective jobs. "I've been meaning to ask you....we're gonna do a dinner after the high school graduation. Can I put you down for two to be there as well?"

From anyone else, the words would have sounded like empty compliments -- someone saying kind things because they felt like they needed to -- but Julien knew that Javier meant them. "Thanks," he replied, expelling a long stream of breath. He'd probably been holding that breath for the last six months. "Party planning was always Claudia's thing. So, naturally, I went from never doing it to throwing a party for the entire town."

Sakura mochi in hand, Javier turns to offer Julien a smile, nodding after he's swallowed the bite he's just taken. "It's great. You've outdone yourself, my friend."

"That's..." he paused, sighing a bit... "incredible." Malachi couldn't imagine having children. It wasn't that he didn't love them. When he'd been younger, he'd wanted nothing more than to give a child the love and care he had had to fight for himself, but Malachi worried now that he simply didn't have the capacity for children. What if their crying triggered him? What if he woke up in the middle of the night, caught in one of the memories he couldn't quite scrub from his mind, and terrified them? It was simply too big of a risk. "Yeah, I get that." Javier didn't have to finish his statement for Malachi to be able to commiserate. They could only outrun their trauma for so long. "Athena and I run every morning if you ever need buddies," he offered. At the question, Mal shrugged. "Can't really complain. At some point, I'd like to expand, but it's not really necessary right now. Things are going well. I think I just always need a project." He chuckled a bit. "But you know you're always welcome to drop in."

"They're graduating high school soon...it's crazy how time flies." Javier swore it was just yesterday that he and his ex were bringing two little babies home from the hospital, and now they were about to turn eighteen and graduate high school and start their adult lives. "I run ever morning. It helps, but..." Trailing off, he shrugs, knowing Malachi would understand where he was going. Running was definitely the thing that helped him clear his head, but it didn't always help. Some demons he couldn't run from, no matter how hard he tried. "How are things going with the gym? I should come take a class sometime."

"That makes sense." Malachi didn't have children of his own. He didn't even have a partner. So, he couldn't imagine what it was like to have to split your life, to have one week where life felt like it was supposed to only to be followed by another where it felt as if all you did was wait for life to start again. It was disorienting just thinking about it. "Ever think of a hobby or something? Bird watching, maybe? Or running. You'd be able to pause it on the weeks that the kids are around so you're not losing time with them, but it'd give you something to do when you're alone."

"Always good to see you, man." Javier replies, giving Mal a smile. It was nice to have a core group of people that he could rely on, who understood what he had seen and experienced throughout his years of military service. "When is it not?" He asks half jokingly, shrugging his shoulders. Life was a lot, but for the most part, it was good. "I know I've talked about it before, but it's always tricky when it's not my weeks with the kids. The apartment is so....quiet. 've been trying to fill my tie, but I don't want to overextend myself either."

"Hey," Mal greeted as he settled into the booth across from Javier. The military had taken a lot from him, but in so many ways, it had given him so much in return, namely friendships with other servicemen. When he'd first returned to civilian life, Malachi had felt isolated and alone, but meeting the others, and connecting with them on a frequent basis had helped him to remember himself. "I'm good, but I hear you on life being a lot. Anything you want to chat about?"

it had been a while since javier had made it to one of the support group meetings. not because he didn't want to, but between work and other general life things, it seemed to have slipped to a lower priority on his calendar. after realizing he had missed yet another meeting jr decides to text mal to see if he'd like to meet up one on one instead. hands wrapped around a mug of coffee, he gives mal a little smile and wave when he sees the other man walk towards him, leaning back against the booth. "hey, thanks for meeting me. sorry I haven't been around much lately. life has just been...a lot lately. how have you been?"

I won’t deign to repeat the bile you decided to dump on him, but you decided to undermine his self confidence by mocking his use of an adaptive device as something that was detrimental to his status as a good sub.

I wasn’t mocking him in any way, you dumbass. I was merely asking why he needed it. And it had nothing to do with him being a sub. Now, I don’t know what he told you, but I think he might need his ears checked as well.
