i’m sure you’re sick of hearing about chelsea but it’s on my mind so i’m gonna talk about the boys from it (since chelsea doesn’t rlly have any “lore” of her own to speak of) and just talk about a couple lil fun facts for each of the boys

charlie: name is short for charles, the nickname for his nickname (that only logan ever called him when they were kids) was “lee”, considers smoking gross but would partake if offered, is a film major bc film majors are pretentious assholes, and he actually cares more about leigh than he lets on, but due to the nature of their relationship, he’s reluctant to really be friends with her

logan: ran track in high school because he didn’t have the hand-eye coordination for basketball and he had to put his height to good use somewhere, isn’t the only guy in the friend group to have a car, but due to being a pushover he drives his friends most places, he and charlie have been friends the longest in the friend group, but the second guy to join their little posse, steve, joined bc logan befriended him cuz they went to the same church, logan also plays guitar

steve: picked up his smoking habit from his mother, got his suicidal tendencies from his father, but only really shows anger towards his biological dad and expresses it by making fun of his bio dad for being gay, says he likes hunting and is actually pretty decent with a gun, but he feels uncomfortable taking the lives of any animals, would probably be the best swimmer out of all the guys due to being on a swimming team when he was younger, but his need for glasses and refusal to get contacts led him to slowly stop swimming professionally and now he’s just kinda average, can also play guitar like logan, and some keyboard

Thomas: has a twin sister named Perdita, when they were young he gave her the nickname “Perry” and she gave him the nickname “Tommy”, may be kind of quiet but often does more of the hard drugs and is really capable of holding his alcohol, both he and his sister have freckles, partially because they lived in florida when they were small and got a lot of sun there, moved around a lot for the first couple of years of his life before they finally settled in [INSERT STATE THE MOVIE TAKES PLACE IN I RLLY DON’T KNOW EXCEPT IT’S SOMEWHERE ON THE EAST COAST] when he was just entering middle school, so his sister was his best and at times only friend for many years

isaac: last to join the friend group and therefore is most worried about losing it, bonded with steve due to also having separated parents, is the embodiment of “the saddest people smile the brightest” because he’s the comic relief friend and is also the only one in the group diagnosed with depression (that he doesn’t tell the others about) would love to make a short film with his friends one day, but every time he pitches an idea to mr. film major charlie he gets ignored or rejected, knows how to play bass guitar

C:tGitW sexuality/gender headcanons

Remember this is just MY correct opinion ❤️

Logan: My hot and conflicted bisexy king! It is literally canon that he’s attracted to men and women, you just KNOW a threesome with him Leigh and Charlie could’ve saved this story from being a tragedy. Don’t worry I’ve already written a 5k word fanfic reimagining of it here. Also he’s transmasc and uses he/him, I feel like that’s literally canon since the guys bully him for being “a girl” or not masculine enough, like that’s the universal transmasc exclusive experience right and has nothing to do with how cis men police masculinity and view emasculation as an easy tool to uphold the status quo. Anyway since we see him as a ten year old and he’s presenting as male he’s obviously known his gender since he was like 5 and transitioned easily and all that other shit

Charlie: Oh my sweet uwu sinnamon roll he’s just a misunderstood gay in denial. Yes he had sex with a woman multiple times but bc he was just doing it to get over a guy he had feelings for and bc he cheated on his previous girlfriend with a man that means he’s gay and has no feelings for women whatsoever. His gay jokes are just bc he’s closeted and the fact that he doesn’t care that much about the very few women in his life isn’t misogyny, it’s bc he’s gay! And we all know those don’t overlap ever. Also he uses he/they and is also my transmasc angel. Like Logan despite his homophobia and transphobia he clearly adopted from somewhere he knew his gender since he was a child and had a supportive environment (except for when I can write angsty fanfic about it) and he’s just an asshole bc he’s scared you guys omg it’s not his faultttt

Steve: He and Isaac def had some sexual tension so I say he’s bi but doesn’t know it yet, esp considering how shitty he is towards the only gay person (that he knows of) in his life. Also insert multiple metas about how the visuals of him smoking a cigarette are visual metaphors for fellatio or something. Isaac should’ve just kissed him during their confrontation but I’ll get into Isaac’s sexuality in a sec. Anyway Steve is cis and uses he/him but he’s a trans ally (just not a gay one apparently)

Isaac is literally a ray of sunshine so ofc he’s pansexual bc that’s the only sexuality for characters that have done nothing wrong in their lives. He uses they/he but I will only talk about him using he for some reason.

Thomas is ace bc he canonically hasn’t had sex with anyone and I think he’s the least interesting and worth talking about. He uses he/him, and I think he and his sister are identical twins so he’s either trans and she’s cis (I’ll write about this a lot) or I think he’s cis and she’s trans (I never write about it)

Chelsea is straight bc she says loves Logan and I refuse to engage with the source material on a deeper level than that. Or I say she’s a lesbian so she doesn’t get in the way of Logan/Charlie

Leigh is bisexual and transgender (uses she/her) bc I want to call her and Logan t4t and bi4bi but never actually engage in that and don’t think about the deeper implications of how Charlie objectifies Leigh in the context of my idea of her being a trans woman. Or she’s actually a lesbian (ignoring that she had sex with two guys) so she doesn’t get in the way of Logan/Charlie

i think i talk too much about my favorite version of c:tgitw which is that it's a metaphor and chelsea is a sympathetic and sad character but it's also written with a potential interpretation that chelsea is a vengeful ghost who's killing off all the boys for unclear reasons

My metaphor that is c:tgitw has consumed me I wanna put the metaphor itself into words

Chelsea as a metaphor is my favorite interpretation because it’s the one that’s the most disheartening in my opinion. Chelsea represents the friend group itself, the prologue of her death which happens an ambiguous amount of time before the rest of the movie, is indicative of the fact that the friend group was already dead before we even saw them onscreen. Then, the next time we see her, it’s all five of the guys literally coming face to face with the reality that the friend group is dead. They all react with shock and surprise, but over the course of their conversation, begin to accept that while this is reality, they aren’t going to do anything about it. Logan is the only one who is adamant that they can’t pretend like nothing is wrong, which is why he’s the only person to see Chelsea’s ghost. He’s deluding himself into believing that she (the friend group) is still alive and well, and if he can just find the reason and the person responsible for her (its) death, then he’ll have some closure and maybe things don’t have to be ruined. That’s why Chelsea’s appearance gets better over the course of the movie until the climax where she doesn’t even have her fatal wound anymore. Logan is forcing himself to believe that what he’s doing is helping and is going to lead him to find the cause and the person responsible. He’s trying to find out who is the one person responsible for ruining the friend group, which of course leads him to blame Charlie. Their friendship has been on a steady decline for the past three years, and it’s affecting everyone else and their relationships to each other (in his eyes) but really, it’s not Charlie’s fault. We see other instances of the guys feeling left out or like their friendships have worsened independent of anything having to do with Charlie. Steve’s suicide attempt and subsequent addiction, Thomas’ grief and obsession with his missing sister, Isaac’s fear that all of his friends will abandon him is based on real reasons everyone else has for not talking to him ever again, it isn’t one person’s fault, it isn’t even everyone’s fault. Nobody is at fault for this friend group falling apart, which is why Logan doesn’t actually ever find the person responsible for killing Chelsea in the end. Because there is no one person to point the finger at. Sometimes things like this just happen, people stop talking to each other, friendships end. But Logan doesn’t see it that way. That’s why at the end after Logan leaves Charlie to die and approaches Chelsea, she looks alive again. Logan thinks he’s solved the issue, that he cut off the one person responsible for this awful thing that happened, and that he can move on and things will be alright now. But when he comes down from that high, he’s faced, once again, with the objective reality. Chelsea (the friend group) is still dead, he’ll never see any of his friends again, nothing he did changed anything, it only let him lie to himself for longer. But “Chelsea” was always dead, and in reality, there was never anything Logan could have done to change that

Introducing Chelsea’s short film counterpart, Daisy!

The short film, Daisy Meadows, is really just a way for me to practice script writing before I tackle something as long form as c:tgitw. Daisy here is the dead girl in the woods for the short film, and aside from also being a brunette who wears a blue dress, she’s pretty much nothing like Chelsea, both design-wise and her role in the story
