@joltning I present to thee the elaboration requested:
When broken down to the bare essentials Wash and C.T fulfill the same function within the story, and the differences between them as characters mostly results from how the story was executed when it came to them fulfilling that function.
For example, everybody (myself included) complains about how C.T exists solely as a plot device in the Freelancer Saga, but nobody complains about how Wash also exists solely as a plot device in Recovery One and Recollection. I mean Reconstruction is literally the ‘omg theres a plot!?!?!?!?” season of RvB, and without Wash there is no story.
The main reason Wash isn’t perceived in the same way as C.T is due to the level of freedom the writers had when it came to telling the story they wanted to tell. The Blood Gulch Chronicles and Out of Mind set the foundations for Recovery One and Recollection, but it was through Wash that the lore of RvB was reconstructed into a cohesive story. The unexplainable was explained, the unelaborated was elaborated upon, and all the wacky hijinks and random bits and bobs of the previous seasons were tied together in a way that answered the question asked in episode one: Why are all of these idiots stuck in a canyon in the middle of nowhere while being separated into color coded teams that are fighting each other?
C.T however did not have the same level of freedom as Wash, and this is because of pfl’s nature as a prequel combined with the pacing of those seasons. We pretty much already knew everything about her that there was to know, so there was no point in hiding anything or taking it slow because of that, hence the painfully obvious foreshadowing. This approach to the Freelancer Sage, and C.T’s story is what leads to her essentially having the same arc as Wash, just reversed—or more accurately described; mirrored, like Chief and Arbiter in Halo 2.
A majority of the reversal and/or mirroring between them manifests in their personalities, which I actually talk about some here, but some examples of the phenomenon in regards to actual plot points are:
They are both introduced as recovery agents (or rather fake C.T, who was the real C.T at the time, was introduced as a recovery agent). Wash is a single agent recovering human technology from dead Freelancers, and he uses explosives to destroy the rest of the equipment to prevent information leaks. C.T is attempting to recover alien technology from a long dead civilization with the help of other aliens, and he uses explosives to make sure anyone who knows of their operation and presents a problem will be destroyed to prevent information leaks.
We knew exactly who Wash was, who he worked for, and why he was reassembling the blues. We didn’t know who C.T was, who he worked for, and why he was fighting Tucker in the desert.
Wash was shot in the back and survived, but failed to subdue the enemy. C.T was shot in the chest and died just as they were going to subdue the enemy.
In regards to the real C.T, some examples include:
The Meta was portrayed as the primary conflict for Wash, but in reality he had always been aiming for the destruction of Freelancer. On the flip side, C.T’s fight to take down Freelancer is portrayed as the main conflict, but in reality, while poorly explained, tracking down the alien artifacts seemed to be her real goal (which is not as insane as it sounds when you remember that Charon Industries was more aligned with the UNSC proper than pfl was).
Wash never hinted towards his plan of taking out the Meta in Recovery One to South, or his plan for destroying Freelancer to the Reds and Blues until he had the perfect opportunity to strike, and by then he had built enough trust that they were willing to help him out despite his secrecy. If they weren’t, well, he knew what to say to change their minds. C.T however wasn’t exactly subtle with her thoughts and feelings, and she didn’t build any trust with the people around her, so when she finally defected—which didn’t take a genius to see coming—no one was willing to listen to her or take her at her word, and there was nothing she could say or do to change their minds except offering concrete evidence. “I’m starting not to trust you.” vs “I can’t trust you.”
This one isn’t a plot point, but I’m going to mention it anyway because I think it’s a nice example of this subtle yet obvious mirroring I’m talking about, and shows what I was trying to replicate in my blurb that spurred me to finally write this analysis:
Counselor: Agent Washington? Agent Washington? Washington: Sorry, what were you saying? Counselor: Were you thinking about Epsilon again, Agent Washington? Washington: No. Counselor: What happened with Epsilon was not your fault, Agent Washington. Washington: I didn't think it was. Counselor: We have safeguards for the unstable emotional patterns of an artificial intelligence. Sometimes these algorithms fail. Washington: Oh. So then it's your fault. Counselor: We prefer to think of it as no one's fault.
Vs:
Washington: It wasn't your fault, Connie. Connie: Easy for you to say. You didn't drop the ball. Washington: The ball got dropped. We were all there, it's everyone's responsibility. Connie: Dammit, why are you doing that? Washington: What am I doing? Connie: Making excuses for me. I'm not making excuses for myself...why are you?
All I've mentioned above is also why C.T’s relationship with the leader and the plot twist that the C.T in the desert wasn’t the real C.T are disliked by so many, as there was nothing to justify the sudden bait and switch like there was at the end of S6. I mean, considering we see both Tex and South use voice mods to sound like men, it reads as though that was supposed to be the case with C.T as well, which makes it feel like it was changed at the last second because everyone saw it coming.
This is an issue because A) There's nothing inherently wrong with being predictable—a good plot twist always has foreshadowing, even if it won’t be registered as foreshadowing until the twist happens in certain cases—and B) The story of the Freelancer Saga as a prequel was confined in a box created by the previous seasons, and all they were doing was connecting the aforementioned events to tie up a few loose ends and properly establish Carolina's driving force in present day S10.
#mine#rvb#red vs blue#agent connecticut#agent washington#idk how to properly conclude these posts. maybe I should just start going gg and leave it at that

🍰🤡 Cake Topper: Lore and HCs 🍰🤡
Hello, everyone! This is my current take on Cake’s lore, who is the clown character I ship with LJ!
Keep in mind, they are not so much a “creepypasta” oc, rather than a sub-genre of oc that I’ve worked into the “Creeps” canon.
• “Cake Topper” is obviously not their real name; it started as an alias for their clown persona. However, they’ve started referring to themselves as Cake or C.T. in a general sense.
• No one actually knows Cake’s birth name, nor their assigned gender. They like to be as ambiguous with their presentation as possible, but it’s hinted to that their assigned sex is most likely female. Their actual gender identity is nonbinary.
• They developed the clown persona prior to meeting Laughing Jack; it was a character they created during a rough emotional period.
• Being a clown is what drew Cake to Jack in the first place. In a way, they felt sympathy for the clown and his past, despite not necessarily agreeing with his act of killing.
• Cake sometimes dresses as their clown persona to cheer Jack up on his rougher days. They remind Jack of when he used to be a colorful character himself.
• Speaking of colorful, Cake sometimes likes to “pretend” they are a dangerous individual. For example, they’ll often hold a knife while wandering the underworld, and it would be covered in raspberry/strawberry jelly. This is usually what keeps them safe from people trying to kill them, well, other than being close with Jack.
• Cake is a part-time baker. In fact, they own a little bake stand in the underworld. It looks very out of place in comparison to the other shops down there.
• Cake is at least two feet shorter than Jack; he often teases them about it.
• Their most common pet name for Jack is “Candy Cane.” This is partially due to the stripes on his outfit, and also because LJ’s “birthday” happens to be the same day as Christmas.
• They despise Isaac. Even though he’s dead ( due to Jack killing him ), they blame him for Jack being the way he is. They always wondered why Isaac couldn’t just take the box with him after Jack told them his story. This also is the reason why they don’t really get along with Will; his appearance being too similar to his aformentioned ancestor and obsession with being the “world’s greatest killer” rubs Cake the wrong way.
• Cake, during their time as a clown, has gained an appreciation for vintage clowncore items.
• It is rumored that they actually are in posession of the box that Laughing Jack originated from. However, Jack is unware of this, most likely due to Cake not wanting to bring back painful memories of his isolation.

I'm not sure how to best do a intro post. So... until someone sends a ask. This will do. rules. (and heads ups) -BASIC DNI. Please do not interact if you are a pedophile, a zoophile, a NSFW blog, etc. You should get it. Please do not send threats. -This blog is run by someone knew the tumblr. The rules thing will be updated every now and again as their awareness of how to use tumblr increases. Letting you know ahead of time. If I receive a ask that makes me uncomfortable. I will most likely say it, and then update the rules. Possibly -Magic anons are welcomed. Replies to these will be text based primarily so... yea, just letting you know ahead of time. -roleplaying asks or otherwise is A-okay. Would love to try and act out the survivalists running into other toons. People, Anons. Whatever. -More of a heads up, don't expect any art in replies. I am not the artist. I just made this AU/story and wanted somewhere to ramble ideas and stuff. -This is more of a roleplay/info blog than anything else. Expect either Lore I think up for the AU/headcannons for Gardenview and the toons within. Or just... roleplay stuff. -I am new to this sorta thing so please be patient, and be nice, okay? -I am not the artist behind any of the character art of the survivalists toons. That is my good buddy https://www.tumblr.com/neonpaperlanterns They are a writer, and I love their stories and wanted to make one of my own. So... I made this AU. -I don't know how to properly do icons on texts. So uh... when I figure it out. I'll put a icon here for when I do a post out of character. (characters? Eh, you understand what I mean) until I figure that out. /Ooc will be what I use for that. For sake of character, these short initials below will be used for whichever survivalist Toon or OC is replying/talking/etc. Small things they say afterwards is for the most part, how their respected texts will appear. S.S. - Survivalist Shrimp "I HATE hellos. And I hate talking through this stupid radio!... You better have supplies for us, otherwise you can just wait out there for those idiots!" S.RnD - Survivalist RnD "Hiya! Razzle here! (And... Dazzle) feel free to say hello! (Just... stay over there... don't touch us.) O-oh, don't worry, its' just for our own safety... (... fun fact: i have oc lore
oc lore!! it's real
so there's this guy. I call them the Author because that's what they are. the Author. and they have a story they write.
and the story is about a girl. named madison.
madison is a normal girl, with a normal life in some small town somewhere. she lives with her parents, does well in school, has friends. all that jazz.
and everything goes well, until she's 11.
and she has an odd encounter while walking home from school.
a man, shouting to her, insisting she needs to listen. insisting the world isn't real, insisting she needs to get out before she can't. that this is his last day he has to tell her the truth.
she's creeped out, and goes home, tells her parents of the odd occurrence.
the next day she's watching the news, and she hears that the man, referred to as C.T., was found dead.
so eventually, her parents decide they need to get out of the town. this happens sometime after her 12th birthday.
so now she's in a different small town in a different place somewhere. and she makes new friends!
skylar, rayne, and cindy. I didn't draw them because I'm lazy and will draw them later.
so things are, yet again, going well for madison. but the author gets bored of this happiness.
so madison is 16, and another strange occurrence happens. she falls asleep one day, and has a dream. a prophetic dream, in which she discovers her fictionality. is that a real word? probably not.
but she wakes up, and decides she needs to tell her friends of her discovery. but nobody believes her.
it all goes downhill from here.
madison gets to watch as everyone she knows dies. her world's collapsing, but she's become apathetic. she's fictional, everything she knows is fictional. and eventually, she's the only one left.
and at the funeral of the last one to die(cindy, probablys), via divine intervention or something, madison gets a chance to leave her world.
and it dawns on her that her friends are all dead, they're not coming back. and the author caused it. so she kills the author.
but now, with nobody to keep her memory alive, she disappears. gone forever.
sorry guys the shows over.
#lee posting#lee art#lee ocs#tw unreality#I think this could be called that?#idk#tw death#I have a drawing of C.T. somewhere but it's bad and eyestrainy and no good#anyway! uhh everyone's dead. what the fuck#this is crazy.#I would add a read more link but idk how#long post

The Story Behind C.T. Webber’s Iconic Painting ‘The Underground Railroad’
It is among the most iconic paintings in the collection of the Cincinnati Art Museum, and among the most reproduced. Charles T. Webber’s “The Underground Railroad” has illustrated books, magazines and encyclopedias by the score. And yet it took decades for the museum to accept the painting. One might say that this painting justifies the location of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in our city.
Although Webber was born in New York, he spent most of his artistic career in Cincinnati. His first job involved tinting photographs in a local studio. He helped organize a number of arts organizations and clubs in the Queen City and consequently was very well connected in the local arts scene.
It is obvious that Webber possessed some talent. A painting of his was accepted in the 1881 Paris Salon and local newspapers reported that it was the first painting by an American artist, painted on American soil, accepted by the Salon. (Other American artists had provided work that they painted in Europe.)
Although Webber painted in a variety of genres – landscape, mythology, still life, etc. – he made his living painting portraits and through his studio got to know many significant residents of the Queen City.
Levi Coffin, known as the “President of the Underground Railroad,” met Webber after relocating from Indiana to Cincinnati in 1847. Webber painted Coffin’s portrait and also a companion portrait of Coffin’s wife, Catherine.
When the 1893 World’s Columbian Exhibition was announced – the Chicago World’s Fair scheduled to celebrate Columbus’ arrival in the New World – Webber set about painting his tribute to the Coffins and other “conductors” of the Underground Railroad. It took five years from initial sketches to final canvas. Webber’s painting was accepted for exhibition in Chicago along with some still-renowned artists like Frank Duveneck, T.C. Steele, Douglas Volk, Henry Farny and others.
Among this august assemblage, Webber’s painting stood out. The Daily Inter Ocean, a Chicago newspaper, published a lengthy article on “The Underground Railroad” in its issue of 8 July 1893:
“The peculiar strength of the picture, and which undoubtedly calls a halt to the footsteps and signals this out as interesting among the many, is the expression on the different faces.”
Those faces, unlike many other artistic representations of abolitionist activity, were painted from life. As noted, Webber had painted portraits of the Coffins and also painted a portrait of abolitionist Hannah Haydock who, although pictured in this image actually lived in Warren County, the next stop of the Underground Railroad.
It is likely that Webber expected this painting to fetch a good price when the Columbian Exposition ended, but it was not to be. Nearly 20 years later, as Webber lay dying in his home along the Ohio River near Sedamsville, the canvas was still in his possession.
At the close of the Chicago World’s Fair, Webber was nearly 70 years old. His sales declined as younger artists emerged on the scene. Webber’s wife died in 1891 while he was still working on his masterpiece and he moved in with one of his students, artist Mary Spencer, who eventually became his executrix.
In the years before Webber died, some of his colleagues, led by artist John Rettig, endeavored to collect a fund to purchase “The Underground Railroad” and present it to the Cincinnati Art Museum. Rettig, according to the Cincinnati Post [5 April 1911], had visited Webber as he lay dying:
“Even with the hand of death on him, Webber recognized his friend. Then his mind wandered. He grasped an imaginary brush in his gaunt hand and pointed to the easel he thought was before him, asking his friend’s advice as to the picture there.”
For a couple of years, Rettig’s fund-raising group had exhibited Webber’s “The Underground Railroad” at galleries and men’s clubs around Cincinnati in an effort to raise the $10,000 purchase price. With Webber’s death, the canvas was finally hung at the Cincinnati Art Museum, though only on loan while fund-raising continued.
It is a mystery, given the names associated with Rettig’s committee, why the painting could not have been purchased with the pocket change of half the organization. Among the subscribers were James N. Gamble, of Procter & Gamble; jeweler Loring Andrews; drug store magnate Cora Dow; artist Henry Farny; Judge Alfred K. Nippert; best-selling author William H. Venable; kindergarten pioneer Annie Laws and other names from the highest echelons of Cincinnati society.
According to Anita Ellis, former curator of decorative arts at the Cincinnati Art Museum, the purchase price was not fully collected until 1927. That year, the painting was officially donated to the Cincinnati Art Museum. By then, Webber had been in his grave at Spring Grove Cemetery for 16 years. Mary Spencer, Webber’s executor, died in 1923 at the age of 87.
Having acquired “The Underground Railroad,” the Art Museum almost immediately got rid of it. According to Anita Ellis [Cincinnati Historical Society Bulletin, Summer 1979]:
“On June 27, 1930, the painting was lent to Woodward High School, Cincinnati. It was returned on April 10, 1961, and has remained at the Museum since.”
Ellis, in her analysis of this painting, determined that Webber must have actually visited Levi Coffin’s suburban “farm” between Avondale and Walnut Hills to portray that location as the scene depicted in the painting.
Restoration of the painting in the late 1970s emphasized the historic aspects of the painting rather than its somewhat confusing artistic qualities. Still, “The Underground Railroad” stakes Cincinnati’s claim as a beacon of hope – however dim – in a very dark time.

Note
what mess did you get jc into and is xe out of it yet
I think I may have accidently... magicked Jc into having to work for the Fae...
Listen, I wasn't trying to, but yeah now Jc's got to deal with that on top of whatever other stuff xe's got going on.
..Also I'm pretty Jc's still bound to the fae, but they seem fine so maybe not?
I don't know this magic stuff is confusing and I haven't heard from Jc in a bit so.....
