Shinya's childhood was much sadder than Guren's.

For those of you who haven't read Catastrophe at Sixteen yet, you can stop here.😊

Shinya's childhood literally wants to make me cry.

He had an amazing life, good friends, he was top of his class and the best at everything, with loving parents. (Yes, they loved him. Just... not enough. His parents couldn't defy the Hiragis. They even asked them to take good care of little Shinya!)

Anyway, he was living a happy, child-like life that every kid should!

And then he was taken away. His parents had given him away for money. He never saw his family again. For all we know, he could even have a sibling that was born while he was away at the Hiragi school! We'll never know. HE'LL never know.

He was 5 years old.

A child.

Forced to study harder than an average child, forced to learn how to fight, how to use spellcraft, combat, fighting techniques, illusion spells, you name it. Pleasures of life? Gone.

And then he was thrown into a gladiator-style life at the age of 5.

He made friends.

He killed them.

Repeatedly.

Until he plastered a smile to his face and continued like that. He found that, if he smiled, everything was easier.

He was terrified.

For 5 years.

Kill or be killed.

And then, he survived but was thrown into a forced engagement. And Mahiru wanted absolutely nothing to do with him.

This adorable, blue-eyed child. And she was so love-struck by some other kid that she didn't even bat an eyelash in Shinya's direction.

And he had to endure her incessant gushing about Guren for years following.

All this time, Shinya had never met his adoptive father once. Nor did he have any mother figure.

Parentless.

Forced to be the best.

Living in a family where he was treated like a dog.

Guren had a loving father.

Guren had a good (ish) childhood.

Guren was loved by his entire clan.

His only problem was forbidden love. He wasn't strong enough.

Well, guess what. Neither was Shinya.

I love Shinya so much, and his story makes me wanna cry. He deserves so much, and he's just tossed into... ugh.

He needs more love in the main series.

That's my rant.
