Noah's Ark on Broadway

NOAH’S ARK on BROADWAY in 1896

You are not likely to find anything about Noah's Ark on New York City's famous Broadway today … but, at one time, it was the "toast of the town".

Noah's Ark, and the great world-wide flood as recorded in Genesis, is perhaps one of the most easily identifiable events in all of the Bible. The most interesting aspect of this episode is not the illusion itself, but the fact that it attracted so many people from New York City's secular population: from every-day working families, to the City's upper crust … all were thrilled with the experience.

A few points of note:

Technical details of the illusion were featured in Scientific American magazine

The Olympia was the premiere entertainment showplace of the world

Biblical themes were very popular, with all NYC audiences at the Olympia

It was founded and built by famous Oscar Hammerstein

It was reported that audiences were left spellbound after each Noah’s Ark performance

It was so popular and well-received, that the highly respected science publication, Scientific American, devoted an entire page to this Biblically-themed entertainment attraction -- complete with stunning illustrations.

Let’s take a step-by-step look at the Noah’s Ark illusion. I will inter-space the steps throughout today’s presentation.

STEP ONE

Hammerstein's Olympia Theater and Music Hall was once celebrated as the foremost entertainment venue in the entire world.

Located at 44th and Broadway in New York City, it was only two blocks from what is known today as Times Square. The main theater held 2,800-seats. And the building took up an entire city block.

STEP TWO

The rooftop was just as famous as the theater and music hall. It had a 65-foot tall glass roof, and was illuminated with over 3,000 light bulbs. To provide electricity, there were four dynamos that generated 3,200 amps of power. These dynamos also powered a complete air circulation system, and pump, that brought refrigerated water from the basement to the rooftop area -- providing what was a very early version of air conditioning ... in 1896!

Not to be outdone by any other venue, the rooftop also had trees, rocks, and even a stream that eventually led to a 40-foot lake. There were swans, ducks, and even South American monkeys.

And, while you were enjoying all of this, you could walk around the perimeter of the roof, and take in views of Central Park and neighboring New Jersey.

At the time, the cost of admission for everything, including entertainment, was only 50-cents! However, keep in mind, with the rate of inflation from 1896 to 2025, that same fifty cent admission price would be equivalent to roughly $15 to $20 today.

STEP FOUR

The Scientific American publication was founded by inventor and publisher Rufus Porter in 1845. Contributors of note include Thomas Edison, Robert Goddard, Jonas Salk, Albert Einstein, and Linus Pauling -- just to name a few.

STEP FIVE: The SOLUTION

The answer to the filling of the Ark with water is a simple one … the water funnel on the top of the Ark is attached to a hose that runs down through the support beams, then empties under the stage. The water never fills the Ark in the first place.

Other than taking creative license with a few details (for instance, the real ark was never filled with water), it was a wonderful opportunity for audience members to experience one of the great Biblical events on the grand Broadway stage.

Perhaps one day we'll see a revival of the Noah's Ark Illusion, or a variation on the theme. In the meantime, I'm glad to have been able to bring it to you with this Celebrate the Bible 250 podcast.

Step 2: In the capturing events page, tap on the Down arrow at the top-right corner then click on the Clear cache and Flush sockets. Click on Clear host cache button.

Part 2: Disable Chrome Cache Manually on Windows 10

Considering the safety of your account information, you need to disable Chrome cache when you use a public computer. Follow the two steps below to disable cache easily.

आखिरकार बहुत सी चीनी मोबाईल ऐपों (apps) को भारत सरकार ने फ्लैग कर दिया है । अर्थात बहुत सी चीनी ऐपों के बारे में भारत सरकार ने चेतावनी जारी करते हुए कहा है कि या तो इस ऐपों को बहुत ही सावधानी से प्रयोग कीजिए या फिर इन्हें फिलहाल के न ही प्रयोग में लाएं तो ही अच्छा होगा । कुल 52 ऐसी ऐप हैं, जिन्हें सुरक्षा ऐजंसियों की रिपोर्ट पर सरकार ने यह बड़ा कदम उठाया है । इस रिपोर्ट पर राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा परिषद ने भी सहमति जताई है । ऐसा इसलिए किया गया है क्योंकि सुरक्षा ऐजंसियों का मानना है कि इन सभी ऐपों का सीधा संबंध चीनी सरकार से है । इसमें आजकल बहुत ज्यादा प्रयोग में लाई जाने वाली जूम ऐप (Zoom App) भी शामिल है, जोकि दफ्तरों व स्कूलों में वीडियो कानफ्रेंसिंग के लिए काम में लाया जा रहा है । हालांकि यह अमरीकी ऐप है, लेकिन इसके सर्वर चीन में हैं । इससे पहले सुप्रीम कोर्ट में जूम ऐप को बैन करने की पिटी��न भी दायर की जा चुकी है ।

इसके अलावा बहुत समय से प्रयोग किया जाने वाला ऐप शेयरइट (SHAREit) भी शामिल है । यदि हममें से किसी को भी इन अपने फोन या कंप्यूटर से किसी भी किस्म का डाटा या फाईल अन्य मोबाईल या कंप्यूटर पर भेजना होता है तो शेयरइट एक बहुत आसान व सबसे अधिक इस्तेमाल किया जाने वाला ऐप है । इन ऐपों पर यह रिपोर्ट ऐसे समय में आई है जब भारत और चीन के बीच तनाव अपने चरम पर है और दोनों देशों के बीच युद्ध होने के पूरे आसार हैं । गलवान घाटी में जो चीन ने किया, उसके बाद वैसे भी भारत चुप बैठने वाला नहीं था । जितना चीन ने भारत का नुकसान किया, उससे दुगुना भारत ने भी उनका नुकसान किया है । हालांकि चीन अपने नुकसान के आंकड़े डर के मारे छुपा रहा है । सीमावर्ती इलाकों पर तो भारत ने अपने -गश्त तेज कर दी है और लड़ाकू विमान भी तैनात हो गए हैं, किंतु भारत के भीतर भी जनता की निजता और डाटा को जो खतरा बहुत समय से था, उसके भी पुख्ता इंतजाम करने भारत ने शुरू कर दिए हैं ।

वैसे 1962 का इकलौता युद्ध था, जो चीन ने जीता था । लेकिन उसके बाद से जब भी भारत के साथ चीन का तकरार हुआ है, हर बार चीन ने बुरी तरह मुंह की खाई है । चाहे वह तकरार 1967 की हो, 1975 की या फिर 1989 की, तीनों बार ही चीन पर भारी पड़ा है । और यह बात चीन को भी पता है ।

शाओमी (Mi – Xiomi) जैसे मोबाईल फोन का भी इस चेतावनी में नाम है । यानि ऐप के अलावा जिस फोन को बहुत से भारतीय आज के दिन प्रयोग कर रहे हैं, उसे भी भारत के लिए बहुत बड़ा खतरा माना गया है । इससे पहले 2014 में शाओमी के बारे में भारतीय वायुसेना ने यह चेतावनी दी थी कि यह कंपनी संदिग्घ है और सारा डाटा वह चीन में रखे सर्वरों में भेज रहा है । हालांकि शाओमी ने बाद में इसमें साफ किया था कि वे सारा डाटा भारतीय सर्वरों पर ही भेज रहा है । इसके अलावा भी अन्य कई बार कंपनी पर इस तरह के आरोप लगते रहे हैं । यदि किसी को लगता है कि उनका डाटा जैसे फोन के कॉटेंक्ट, फोटो, ईमेल, पासवर्ड आदि बिलकुल भी काम के या ऐसे नहीं हैं कि उनका प्रयोग किया जाए तो वह पूरी तरह गलत है । तेल के ईजाद के बाद से अब एक नई कहावत उभर कर आई है कि ‘डाटा ही अब नया तेल है’ (Data is the new Oil). यानि जिस कपंनी के पास जितना अधिक डाटा होगा, उतना ही अधिक वह उसे बेचकर पैसा कमाएगी और उसका देश उतनी ही अधिक तर��्की करेगा ।

कुछ लोगों का सवाल है कि इस ऐप से भारत को क्या खतरा हो सकता है । इसका उत्तर है कि कि इस समय भारत और चीन का विवाद अपने चरम पर है और यहाँ तक बातें हो रही हैं कि कही इससे तीसरे विश्व युद्ध की शुरूआत ही न हो जाए । जब ऐसी स्थिति होती है तो दोनों देशों की सुरक्षा ऐजंसियाँ जहाँ तक हो सकें हर वो हथकंठा अपनाती हैं, जिससे दुश्मनी देश के बारे में अधिक से अधिक जानकारी जुटाई जाए और उसे उसी के विरुद्ध इस्तेमाल कर नुकसान पहुँचाया जा सके ।

हालांकि देश में एक तरफ हमारे सैनिक हरसंभव कोशिश कर देश की रक्षा कर रहे हैं और यहाँ तक की अपनी जान का भी बलिदान कर रहे हैं, लेकिन फिर भी देश में बहुत से ऐसे लोग हैं, जिन्हें इससे कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता । वे अब भी टिकटॉक पर अपनी वीडियो बना कर खुश हो रहे हैं । देशभक्ति से उनका रत्ती भर भी कुछ लेना – देना नहीं होता । ऐसे लालची और स्वार्थी लोगों के कारण ही सरकार कोई कदम उठाने से पहले कई बार सोचती है । यदि सभी भारतवासी ऐसे गंभीर मसलों पर पार्टी की राजनीति न करके देशहित के बारे में सोचें तो देश पाकिस्तान चीन जैसे देशों से भिड़ने व उनसे पार पाने में अधिक समय नहीं लगाएगा ।

अत सभी भारतवासियों से अपील है कोरोना वायरस व चीनी हमले के इस दौर में सरकार के साथ एकजुट खड़े रहिए क्योंकि इसी से सीमा पर खड़े फौजियों को दुश्मन के सामने का साहस मिलता है ।

Several Chinese mobile apps could be red-flagged: Report Intelligence agencies of India have red-flagged 52 mobile apps that are linked to China over concerns that they extract huge information outside India. As per a report by Hindustan Times, the Intelligence agencies have sent the list to the government to either block these apps in India or advice people not to use these apps. The decision is backed by the National Security Council Secretariat. Many apps that have been red-flagged by the Indian Intelligence Agencies are widely popular among Indians, such as TikTok, SHAREit, UC Browser, UC News, SHEIN, Mi Community, Helo, etc. All of these apps are live on both Andriod and iOS platforms in India. However, this is not the first time that the Indian Security Agencies have asked the Indians to refrain themselves from using the apps that are linked with China. Earlier this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has issued an advisory over the Zoom video conferencing app that it is not safe to use as it is vulnerable to cyber-attacks. The app is already banned in countries like Germany, Singapore, Taiwan, etc. In a 16-page advisory, the Cyber Coordination Centre (CyCord) has warned that the Zoom app is vulnerable to cyber-attacks, which may lead to the leakage of the sensitive information to the criminals. Ministry of Home Affairs further stated that people who are still willing to use the Zoom app must follow certain safety measures. Is Zoom App safe?
