My journey with the Olympus XA2 and Kentmere 400

So here it goes, my first ever photography blogpost. I'm trying to start this blog akin to something like 35mmc. A blog where I can share my thoughts on my photos and where I can share my experiences with an at this point too large selection of cameras.

The first image I'd like to show is one that I've taken quite recently. I had gotten an Olympus XA2 from a second hand store for about €20. I shot one roll on it when I was with some friends but barely touched it afterwards. The zone focusing controls were very awkward to me and I did not know how to handle them well.

A bit later I got a roll of Kentmere 400 and decided the XA2 would be the ideal camera to try it in. I very quickly relearned that I do not in fact like the zone focus sytem of the XA2. I was able to take some decent images, one of which I'm genuinely quite happy with.

This photo was meant to be a quick streetphoto, initially I thought it had failed but looking at it now I really like the blurriness of it. I can chalk this up to the fact that the shutter of the XA2 didn't always work.

Before developing this photo I had already decided to sell this XA2 and try to trade it for a nice Pentax Spotmeter V I had seen in the window of the local photo store. This picture was actually taken on my way to trade in the camera.

Afterwards I still had a half shot roll of Kentmere 400 that I wanted to fill. I decided to go to my favourite forest and shoot it all up with a strong red filter. I took my trusty Canon EF with my 55mm f1.2 and took what is possibly one of my favourite pictures I've taken so far.

Somehow in just a couple of weeks this roll of Kentmere 400 saw 2 different cameras and very different shooting scenarios.
