Some idiot climbed down this ladder once, I guess. Spelunking takes a certain kind of brave idiocy, I guess.

Going On a Trip
Just a quick status update for you all: next week I’m going to be going on a trip with the family for a few days: we’ll be going to Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico. The plan is to leave on Monday, and return home either Wednesday or Thursday.
Because I’m going to be gone for a big chunk of next week, regardless, I’ve decided not to schedule any commissions for next week. HOWEVER, there will be a story for you all to read on July 19th, as a sort of special. The story will be my first time writing for “Lullaby of Demonia,” so if that interests you, be on the lookout for it. ;)

Most of Carlsbad Caverns' speleothems (cave deposits such as these stalagmites) consist of the mineral calcite (CaCO3) that precipitates from groundwater that enters a cavern. Some speleothems are also composed of aragonite and gypsum. (USGS)

Hello, Carlsbad Caverns National Park! by Mark Stevens
Via Flickr:
Natural Entrance Trail-13 A view looking down and to the east while walking the path on the Natural Entrance Trail in Carlsbad Caverns National Park. My thinking in composing this image was to capture the look of the man-made walking path as it led into the depths of the cavern. All around would be the cliff wall and areas caught in reflected sunlight, but there would be that one “hole” leading into the darkness below.
