CATCHING MY DEATH, AND I COULDN’T BE SURE

Carmen always felt she was never taken seriously as a street racer. Especially since she was born in Evermore, the small town thought her dreams were too big for a place you couldn’t leave from. Always being judged by her appearance rather than what she could do on the track. Carmen was hot, and she knew that. She liked makeup, the color pink, and getting her nails done. But she also loved getting her hands dirty and racing against strangers along the freeway with the cops behind their trail. She couldn’t understand why she couldn’t be both? So she decided to set the example herself. Showing up to races in revealing clothing and high heels so sharp that it could kill a man. She loved fooling an audience. Because once she finished a race in first place she was the first to tell them “I told you so.” Anything you could do, Carmen could do better. When Tiffany came into the picture it really didn’t effect Carmen like it had the other sugar rush racers. Carmen still had a good amount of followers on the track and online. Carmen knew she was good and felt no need to compare herself to Tiff. Carmen races for her own happiness, not others. However that doesn’t mean she doesn’t love to compete. She loves the rush of adrenaline of being able to prove people wrong. But mainly it’s because she loves doing it, and looks hot while doing so. It’s kind of her gimmick. There’s only a few select people Carmen actually likes from the racing squad. The rest of them she can either take them or leave them. Especially when she hears rumors of her own friend group trying to dethrone her. It’s a cut-throat world out there. Carmen’s content with watching from the sidelines, whatever happens is just all apart of the game baby.

❀Taura Butter: These two were close and fast friends ever since the day they met. Taura was Carmen’s anchor when she needed it and vice versa. ❀ Phineas T. Kettletree: Sometimes Carmen can come off too intimidating, and that was definitely the case with Pineas. He came to eat at the Jukebox often enough and yet always seemed to avoid her. It wasn’t until she broke the ice one day that he seemed to relax a little, she loves his company. ❀ Brystol Utonium: Carmen doesn’t know much about Brystol; all she knows is Brystol seems like a cool ass person. She totally wouldn’t fan girl if they met or anything.

He was slipping again; staying out too late, drinking every night, but Swizz had no concern for himself. It was hard to care when you had nothing to lose. Walking alongside Carmen, he tried his best not to stumble over his own two feet, though his vision was blurred enough to make that impossible. “I appreciate the concern,” he told her, hoping she didn’t notice the slur in his words, “but I’m good to get home by myself. You think I can’t handle my liquor? I could totally pass a straight line test right now.”

CATCHING MY DEATH, AND I COULDN’T BE SURE

Susie wasn’t born in Evermore, but she’s been there so long, she figures she may as well have been. She hardly remembers now what life was like before the family woke up in an unfamiliar house in an unfamiliar town. She was only a child, but she was a child to overachieving parents who weren’t very accepting of the unplanned change for awhile. Her dad was a bigshot cartoon writer, her mother a French chef, airline pilot and doctor; their lives revolved around not being trapped outside of the cities their businesses were in, and their stability was ripped out from underneath them. They had worked so long and hard to get where they were, only to lose it all without warning. But eventually, after watching Susie become friends with the neighborhood kids and becoming friends with their parents, too, they began to settle in and appreciate the calm of the small town. They found jobs there, their other children enjoyed school and truthfully, it felt more like home to them than anywhere else had. Susie filled the protective, supportive role when it came to the neighborhood kids, butting heads with Angelica on the regular, but still considering her one of her best friends.

Opportunities in Evermore seemed limited to her parents after the colleges they’d gone to, but Susie felt like there were almost too many choices. She wanted to make them proud, she wanted to be successful, but most of all, she wanted to be happy. And the thing that made her happiest was music. She was a naturally talented singer, winning many singing competitions over the years or placing in second and third at the very least. She was bilingual, she excelled in all of her classes, she was a gifted dancer at both hip-hop and ballet... anything she put her mind to, she was confident she could do it, but what she truly wanted underneath it all was to see her name in lights. Or even just stand in front of a small crowd singing along with her. She started out singing in coffee shops for free, and worked her way up until she landed a job at the Moonlight Casino. A lounge singer wasn’t her goal in life, but it was a start, and she was excited to see where it took her.

❀ Carmen DiCarmello: Susie met Carmen after she saw her cheering her on in the crowd at Neverland. They got to know each other over drinks, and she has really enjoyed hanging out with her a few times since. She drags her along to all the hotspots and she is just so... cool. ❀ Shona Samhain: She works almost all of the same shifts at the casino with her, and Susie is as nice to her as she can be, but there’s something about Shona that is just downright terrifying. ❀ Florence Marin: Flo gave Susie one of her first jobs singing at her café, and insisted on paying her for what was supposed to be a free gig. Though she makes hourly pay now, she still likes to come back and play at the V8 Café on occasion. It feels more homey.

ah yes, mabels matchmaking madness. i knew this was going to be a shit storm because not only was it being run by one of the pines twins but... it's evermore. what was anyone expecting?

knowing how the wolves in this pack run, i seriously doubt anything will come from any of these dates besides maybe a hot fling, but i'll mention a few pairings i had the most visceral reactions to.

speaking of a pines twins, mabel pines and luis salgado getting paired up actually made me audibly cackle. you're gonna put the two ends of the good and evil spectrum on a date? with each other? i don't know which of the two i was more worried for.

carmen dicarmello and andy davis. i'm sure swizz was absolutely pissing his pants seeing this match up, because if these two don't end up together... i've never seen a more fitting match before in my lifetime.

meri webster and vitani kagai. god this is one sexy pairing that i would have given up an organ to be a part of. there are few women in evermore that i speak highly of, and they're sitting across from each other? lord have fucking mercy, i hope they went home together.

benjee bong and barley lightfoot. come ON; this is the most wholesome, nauseatingly adorable pairing on that entire list. i actually think i got cavities just imagining how that date must have gone. christ, i've gotten soft.

Heir to the Oberson Oranges Orchards in Florida, Llyod never had to lift a finger. Everything he wanted was handed to him and then some. It was easy to feel carefree when you had luxury at your fingertips and a million dollar business waiting to be all yours at the ripe age of eighteen. With that being said Lloyd wasn’t perfect. He skipped school, always fell into the wrong crowd and overall wasn’t leadership material. It wasn’t until his father had enough of his shenanigans that he threatened to take the position of heir away from his only son. Until Lloyd cleaned up his act he wouldn’t see a cent of the Oberson family money. That was enough initiative for Lloyd to clean up his reputation at least publicly. Away from the media he was still set in his old hedonistic ways. However he was willing to play saint for as long as he could. When Lloyd finally managed to slide back into his parents good graces something happened that changed his life. Falling asleep in his Miami pent house to waking up uncoherent in a town called Evermore. His memories were foggy but they came back to him quickly enough. He hated Evermore at first, it was too small for his liking. But the more time he spent in Evermore he realized how nice it was to be out from his father’s watchful eye. The news of Evermore didn’t seem to travel back home as quickly as did it everywhere else. Here he could be himself and still keep the family business. His parents still transferring money often as they fulfill his lavish lifestyle. He just hopes there was still a home waiting for him if he finds a way out of Evermore. For now he spends time putting money into his sports car and spending time with the other sugar racers even if he’s not necessarily good at driving. Money really can’t buy you everything.

❀ Hercules Kosta: Lloyd’s co worker at the uppercut club and closest confidant. Lloyd isn’t use to having genuine friends but he considers Hercules one of them. ❀ Carmen DiCarmello: One of his many exes that he’s scorned. Being new to Evermore meant a whole variety of new people to choose from. Carmen was just unfortunate enough to cross paths with Lloyd. They had an off and on relationship for a long time until she was too sick of his cheating and broke up with him. ❀ Rosetta Fleur: His newest infatuation. Though she doesn’t seem to acknowledge his attempts, he’s trying hard to impress her but ends up falling short every time. He knows soon enough she’ll crack, they always did.

CATCHING MY DEATH, AND I COULDN’T BE SURE

Sterling couldn’t tell you where things had went wrong. He’d had a decent childhood, he was a good kid. He always followed the rules set in place, always offered to help out, didn’t complain about chores -- or anything for that matter. He was always smiling and using his manners. It was somewhere in high school that he’d lost his way, though he wouldn’t be able to pinpoint the year. He started acting out just for the sake of it, started finding he could combat the numbness that had been growing inside of him with adrenaline rushes. It would take several hands to count the amount of fights he’s gotten into, random houses he’s woken up in after blacked out nights of binge drinking, careless hookups and school suspensions. If you asked him, life wasn’t worth living unless you were living on the edge. There is nothing Sterling -- or Swizz, he’d insist -- loves more than an adrenaline rush. The thrill of going ninety in a thirty five, graffitiing the side of a police station, popping wheelies, breaking into the school playground at one am. He doesn’t care about getting caught, he doesn’t care about getting himself killed; if he wants to do something, he’ll do it, and the more people that tell him no, the more likely he is to try again. That’s what got him into racing in the first place. It wasn’t that he took the sport seriously, it was just that it made him feel alive, if only briefly. Though he doesn’t remember many things about his past life, this town has more opportunity than the town from his memories, more trouble to get into, and he plans to run full speed until he crashes.

❀ Pacifica Northwest: The fact that she seems annoyed with his attempts to flirt only makes him try harder. He’ll win her over one day, he’s sure of it. ❀ Ryan Baker: He knows they’re supposed to be friends and he pretends they are, but he really can’t stand the dude. Every time he opens his mouth, Swizz just wants to punch him square in the face. ❀ Carmen DiCarmello: She’s yet another vice, and possibly the most dangerous. He doesn’t know how to handle the way she makes him feel, so he tries to ignore it.

Eeyore wasn’t always so... Eeyore. There was a time when she had quite the zest for life. Her mother was a quirky woman --- just look at what she named her daughter --- and she encouraged Eeyore to be different, to stand out. Which was great... until middle school. All of the kids that wanted to befriend her just a grade or two ago began to mock her, and that was when it all started going downhill. Her father lost his job. Her previously happy parents started arguing every night. The stress destroyed them. The electricity was cut off. Even after her dad found more work, even after she graduated, all of the things that had interested her before started to feel meaningless. She felt herself fade away, slowly; just a shell of the girl she used to be. Stuck in a rut she couldn’t find the energy to escape. Waking up in a new town far away from home with no recollection of how she got there should probably bother her, but like everything else at this point, it didn’t. She didn’t care about the college classes she was missing. She didn’t wonder if her family was worried, it didn't occur to her they would even notice. She didn’t try to leave. She found a job to pay rent for a one bedroom apartment and she took life one day at a time, like she had for the last thirteen years. This was nothing out of the ordinary for her; she had stopped hoping that it would get better a long time ago.

❀ Nuka Kagai: Maybe she’s got a crush on him, but she knows it would never go anywhere. If by some miracle he was interested in her, after watching her parents fall apart, she truly believes love is dead. 

❀ Carmen DiCarmello: She doesn’t know how she does it. Eeyore is too clumsy and not nearly friendly enough to rake in the same amount of tips as Carmen. She admires her, sometimes she wishes she could just be her.

❀ Stitch Pelekai: He’s so wide open, Eeyore gets startled every time he’s around. He’s nice to her, though, while a little strange, and she appreciates his presence.
