things i adored of the catalan version of jesus christ superstar

so i just saw the catalan version of after discovering there is one (it's here, check it out!) and i think it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. shoutout to @this-is-a-name-dont-worry for making me discover it <3

catalan is my favourite language and i am lucky enough to speak it every day, and this production didn't disappoint at all!

so as a tradition in this blog, let's review my favorite parts!

first of all, i adored the setting and the cast. the costumes were also fabulous. so the whole aesthetic of the show was impeccable, giving me the same vibes as the 2018 nbc version. 10/10 for scene.

now, specific things. many of these things have to do with lyrics because i think the translation was EVERYTHING.

heaven on their minds is always a banger, no matter the production. one thing i loved about this particular version was the lyric obri els ulls i escolta el que t'he de dir / que no veus que no vull veure't morir?, which literally translates to open your eyes and listen to what i have to say / can't you see that i don't want to see you die? (more or less).

that translation changed my life forever.

the percussion break right before what's the buzz? gave me +20 years of life.

then, judas's expression during mary's bit was so funny.

and also, some note changes during strange thing mystifying that i LOVED.

i also think it was clever how judas was arguing with the apostles in the background during the first chorus of everything's alright.

moreover, the way mary soothes judas in the second chorus

AND HOW THEY CHANGE THE LYRICS SO THEY CAN MAKE IT PLURAL (like mary talks to both jesus and judas).

ANNAS IS A GIRL !!!!! and an amazing performer, gotta say.

also, the little dancing of the priests during this jesus must die.

i adored how in hosanna, jesus and judas enter together and then mary joins them (and judas gives her a little kiss!!).

also judas telling the crowd to be chill while caiaphas sings.

and how he gets mad when jesus talks about heaven.

SIMON IS A GIRL !!!! and also SPECTACULAR.

the way pilate and jesus look at each other just before pilate's dream.

the priests being in the temple during the scene.

mary confessing to jesus during i don't know how to love him and jesus ALMOST KISSING HER???? WOAH.

a priest offered judas some food while he was having a mental breakdown in damned for all time and i thought it was the funniest thing ever.

okay so during the last supper happened a lot of things

first, JUDAS SMOKING. i'm always a fan of that (please, don't smoke).

also, during their first confrontation, judas says deixa'm que t'expliqui (let me explain) to jesus, and I WANTED TO CRY

the way the apostles tidy up the table after jesus and judas's first fight.

at the end, judas looks for comfort in the apostles AND THEY REJECT HIM???? the audacity.

gethsemane was in general absolutely stunning, but some things i liked about it is the way it was translated. the song in catalan seems like jesus is asking god to show himself so that he can see that everything is real. HEART B R E A K I N G.

ANOTHER HEARTBREAK. the lyrics just before the song starts say ningú es vol quedar despert amb mi? / no em deixeu sol avui, which translates to none of you wants to stay awake with me? / don't leave me alone today. I MEAN.

some other lyrics that destroyed me were the pre-chorus. in catalan, jesus sings: vas donar-me llum / però ara sols veig fum / esperant que tú vinguessis / vaig donar-te el que tenia / una vida / no pots esperar més d'un home sol, which translates to you gave me light / but now i only see smoke / waiting for you to come / i gave you what i had / a life / you cannot expect more from only a man. I MEAN X2.

peter's voice was one of my favorites.

and also, herod serving cunt in that animal print trousers. chef's kiss.

judas's death affected me more than any other production

in superstar, judas singing de debò el teu sacrifici et converteix en salvador? which translates to does your sacrifice really makes you a savior? in the cuntiest way possible. yes, king.

and to finish, the timer above the cross going down before jesus's death.

the translation is meh, i could see they were trying to adapt the og text and the 1975 spanish version. kind of a frankentranslation to be honest

More of a conceptual moodboard sort of thing, or notes? Idk, I had a lot of characters and really didn't put thought into anyone's future except Svea's. Also cousin Frej I guess, but he was already in his endgame before Svea met Art, so figuring out what he's up to 20 something years later isn't really difficult.

The Von Grimmelshausen-Lafrenz's

Mostly German.

- Egon von Grimmelshausen (pureblood) Papa, mother was british, attended hogwarts (thus his kids went as well), the von Grimmelshausen's be a super old wizarding fam, makes his money with real estate and fancy resort stuff for the magical world, with some interests in the muggle world, but mostly for that whole "maintain the statute of secrecy" thing where the two worlds should be separate. A bad bitch who is now trying. Adopted Isabelle's two children, and made them his legal (secondary) heirs (most of his money still goes to Leo though).

- Isabelle Lafrenz-von Grimmelshausen née Alscher, previously Reiher, Wöller, Krüger, Niewald, and Reiss (pureblood) Mama, she's been married 7 times

- Leopold Ramón von Grimmelshausen (half-blood) Slytherin Only biological child of Egon. His mother was a muggle, and a member of the House of Montcada, an aristocratic and noble Spanish Catalan family. Very bitter and sad, his mom died in childbirth and believes his father blames him for that (yeah, that's a cliche character motivation, but like, I love it, so shut up). Has a difficult relationship with father (lol), both wants to impress him and get his approval, and has a "fuck you dad" mentality, like pick a lane bucko. A gross whore, but like, a respectful one (we don't play with the rapey douches here), uses the sexy times to fill the emotional stuff he's missing, but since the new family (and meeting a certain someone) finds he needs that stuff less and less. V competitive and bitchy, but has a good heart. Somewhere.

- Stella Adelina Reiher (pureblood) Slytherin Only child of whatever and I don't know Reiher, they divorced when stel was like 6 or stm 'cause of reasons, and then papa reiher remarried to isabelle when she was 10ish, papa reiher died two years later, mama reiher disappeared after the divorce, and isabelle became her legal guardian (later formalizing the adoption). high strung, overachieving, bossy, type A.

- Richard Lafrenz (halfblood) either Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, prolly Ravenclaw Only biological son of Isabelle and who cares what his name is Lafrenz, left the fam when Richard was 2 and he don't give a fuck about that papa anymore. Has some issues trusting paternal figures (for obvious reasons), was close to papa reiher, and now papa egon. close with the sibs, he the smort and sensible one, and the baby, do not fucking even think about hurting him 'cause the rest of them will actually kill you.

Lili was Svea's sister, half-russian, now in control of KC, had an interim leader between her and Frej. Ana be Lili's daughter, no idea who the father is (ooc me lazy, in world 'cause Lili won't say - lol), so she's just assumed to be pureblood. Ravenclaw house, exactly like a mini lili, close to aunt svea.

I'll be honest... I'm personally so enamored with the notion of screamy rock tenors in JCS that Josh Young's voice is a little too "semi-classical" for me. It's well-sung, don't you get me wrong (don't you get me wrong now), but to me, his voice really doesn't fit the rock opera style. His acting is impeccable, though; the storytelling in that revival was actually really, really good, and it's a shame it didn't get more attention.

The Catalan guy though... whoa. That's crazy. I'm gonna be re-watching that loads.

This seemed like appropriate playout music on the way to leaving "Heaven On Their Minds" behind and moving on to the next scene, but before I do, I wanted to open the floor to anyone who still reads this blog or who's been liking the posts so far:

Mention spéciale au député Georges Fenech, ex-président de la commission d’enquête parlementaire sur les attentats de Paris, qui propose la création d’un « FBI à l’européenne ». Comme il l’avait fait en juin, après l’attentat de Londres. Un comble. Surtout quand on se souvient que le FBI avait été accusé très sérieusement d’organiser lui-même de faux attentats “islamistes”… OD

« Un nouvel attentat « djihadiste » vient d’avoir lieu sur les Ramblas à Barcelone, dans la zone la plus fréquentée de la ville catalane en Espagne. Le massacre est identique à celui de Nice et à celui du 9 août à Levallois Perret, contre des militaires…

Dans mon livre « Le djihad et le management de la terreur » paru aux éditions Vérone en 2017, 445 pages, je renvoyais mon lecteur, notamment aux publications de l’ancien patron du Pôle anti terroriste français, Le juge Marc Trévidic qui avait démissionné avec fracas de son poste, après avoir refusé de tenir le discours convenu « officiel » concernant le terrorisme, sur les plateaux de télévisions où il était invité…

Pour information, il est déterminant de lire Marc Trévidic, « Au cœur de l’antiterrorisme », éditions JC Lattès, 2011 ; « Terroristes : les 7 piliers de la déraison », JC Lattès, 2013 ; « Qui a peur du petit méchant juge ? », JC Lattès, 2014.

Une fois de plus, comme nous en sommes désormais accoutumés, il était tout à fait essentiel que le terroriste laisse bien en vue son passeport dans le véhicule ayant servi au massacre. Car il faut à tout prix que l’on puisse identifier la menace ! Qui nous menace et qui vient nous tuer en Europe ? Réponse sans ambiguïté, grâce au passeport : Les djihadistes !

Le but est atteint et nous savons, grâce notamment au juge Trévidic, que ces actions sont organisées avec la bénédiction de la CIA qui avait inauguré en Europe l’utilisation des djihadistes en faisant venir au Kosovo ses armées de Moudjahidin Afghans qui ont perpétré les horreurs que nous savons en Ex –Yougoslavie, (Cf., le Juge Trévidic dans « Terroristes : les 7 piliers de la déraison »)…

Chacun se rappellera des actions terroristes du GLADIO, créé lui aussi par la CIA et agissant exclusivement en Europe, en utilisant des gens d’extrême droite qui se faisaient passer pour des terroristes d’extrême gauche, dans le but de jeter le discrédit sur les partis de gauche et surtout sur les partis communistes européens trop influents aux goût des étasuniens désireux de conserver leur hégémonie sur l’Europe en faisant d’elle leur marché principal et obsédés par l’anti communisme… Chacun aura en souvenir l’attentat de la gare de Bologne qui restera l’action la plus emblématique du GLADIO en Europe et qui avait été commanditée par la CIA…

Tout se passe comme d’habitude y compris avec le détail du passeport de rigueur : si la police ne pouvait pas dire rapidement et avec certitude, l’identité du terroriste, l’attentat resterait un coup d’épée dans l’eau. Il est absolument déterminant que ce détail soit soigneusement souligné ; il était déterminant de retrouver sur les ruines fumantes du WTC le passeport d’un terroriste, intact, ayant traversé le feu intense de l’avion destructeur fondant l’acier à quasi 3000 degrés ; il était déterminant de trouver les papiers d’identité des frères Kouachi, dans la voiture après le meurtre de Charlie Hebdo et la suite ; il était déterminant de trouver le SMS sur un téléphone intact jeté par les terroristes dans la poubelle publique à côté du Bataclan et retrouvé illico par la police avant le passage des éboueurs ; il est déterminant aujourd’hui que les Européens sachent qui les menace et donc ce qu’ils doivent faire pour être protégés : renforcer la coercition, exaspérer la surveillance, laisser tomber leurs libertés, accentuer la militarisation, augmenter les budgets attribués à la seule armée capable de les protéger du djihadisme : l’OTAN !

Bref, les USA veulent dominer assurément les européens et exploiter confortablement ce grand marché. Or, toutes les mesures prises contre les Russes, ne servent qu’à cet objectif : privatiser le marché européen pour les seuls intérêts de l’envahisseur, aidé de son armée l’OTAN, en écartant la « menace russe » qui ose venir manger sur les plates-bandes des yankees ! L’objectif, à terme, c’est de déclencher une guerre contre la Russie et de pouvoir enfin nous refaire le coup du plan Marshal, alias TAFTA, TTIP, prévu depuis longtemps et préparé en grand secret à Bruxelles avec les collabos de service…

Mais les Etats formant l’Union Européenne se montrent récalcitrants, voyant que la stratégie sans complexe des USA ne sert que leurs intérêts en flouant abusivement ceux des européens. C’est là que le recours au terrorisme est absolument nécessaire dans les plans de cette stratégie étasunienne. On peut dire ouvertement que la CIA a réactivé son GLADIO en Europe, via les islamistes cette fois, pour dresser les récalcitrants et les obliger à contribuer à la militarisation excessive de l’UE, via l’OTAN, et ainsi donner tout le pouvoir à cette force armée du IVème Reich pour en arriver enfin au TAFTA,TTIP tant attendu…

Il est surprenant de constater qu’une masse considérable de gens, fasse preuve d’une telle naïveté, face aux attentats ! Comment la majorité de nos concitoyens ne voit-elle pas que le coup du « passeport providentiel », répétitif, finit par être carrément suspect ?

Le député Thomas Zlowodzki, LR, a tweeté en disant que « les Français victimes du terrorisme à Barcelone devaient assumer, puisqu’ils n’ont pas voté François Fillon qui, lui, aurait éradiqué le terrorisme islamiste ». Il faut donc comprendre que si les Français s’étaient pliés à la politique ultra libérale et pro TAFTA TTIP de l’Europe, la CIA n’aurait pas été obligée de fomenter de nouveaux attentats pour remettre de force, dans le giron du fascisme ultra libéral, des peuples trop émancipés et peu respectueux de la dictature néo libérale et néo conservatrice dominant le monde. Partout, dans les journaux, on dénonce l’infâme chantage des « islamistes » sans jamais reconnaître que l’infâme chantage vient des Etats-Unis qui ont créé Al-Qaïda puis Daech ! Ceux qui ne savent pas encore cela doivent se renseigner sans tarder ! On décrit dans les medias, l’attentat de Barcelone à la camionnette bélier, survenu sur les célèbres Ramblas de Barcelone et les 20 morts (13 continuent à dire les medias français) et une centaine de blessés à ce jour. Daech, « Etat Islamique » revendique l’attaque ! Tout y est et rien n’est vrai ! Tout est ainsi en apparence et rien n’est ainsi en réalité !

Comment expliquer cette naïveté et passivité des peuples européens face à la manipulation évidente qui est faite sans arrêt concernant le terrorisme en Europe ? Combien de personnes, en France, ont-elles pris la peine de lire les publications du juge Trévidic, l’une des personnes certainement les plus compétentes et les mieux informées concernant le sujet du terrorisme ? Comment les Européens ne comprennent-ils pas encore que les vrais et seuls terroristes qui nous menacent sont les Etats-Unis d’Amérique ? Comment n’ont-ils pas encore tiré les leçons de l’ex Yougoslavie, dont la déflagration a été orchestrée par l’OTAN, ainsi que de l’Irak, de la Libye et de la Syrie ? Combien de centaines de milliers de morts innocents faudra-t-il encore aux Européens pour qu’ils comprennent qu’on les prend pour des idiots? Face à un « terrorisme chirurgical » ne portant plus ses fruits, ne terrorisant plus personne, tellement il en est devenu banal et prévisible, il n’y aura que la guerre nucléaire qui pourra constituer le niveau suivant d’un terrorisme de masses dont l’efficacité accordera d’office aux prédateurs dominants, la liberté de conduire ce qui restera des peuples en esclavage ! Le collapsus à venir ne garantit absolument pas qu’il y ait encore quelqu’un pour faire valoir un TAFTA TTIP, pour conduire des peuples à l’esclavage, après ce sommet atteint par la bêtise humaine et c’est peut-être mieux ainsi pour notre Mère à tous la Terre ! »

they made the sexiest decision of CASTING ANNAS AS A WOMAN (she acts and sings very good!)

AND SIMON TOO (well, she had a lower voice register, it didn't really fit but alright)

it's fine, but overall i give it a 2 stars bc

the translation is meh, i could see they were trying to adapt the og text and the 1975 spanish version. kind of a frankentranslation to be honest

the instrumentals felt a bit cheap?

there was a very random percussion choreography?

caiaphas is not really a bass

also the priests are represented as villains

the priests do this disgusting thing during "judas' death." they appear while he is suffering and offer him a GUN and MAKE HIM SHOOT HIMSELF WHAT THE HELL
