First Impression: (first time I saw her was in SSBU) damn this girl is kinda broken. time to abuse her in quickplay

When I saw her while playing Xenoblade 2 my thoughts were pretty much. oh right there’s a blonde one

Impression Now: Holy crap I love Mythra. While I played the main game I liked her enough, but because Pyra gets more screen time I favored her and didn’t have much of an opinion on Mythra. But when I finished Torna? Oh god. Her entire character arc is written so well, realistically and made me cry ugly at the end of Torna. She’s awoken on Addam and knows nothing of the world, just her power and role as the Aegis, which makes her seem like a massive biatch to those around her, but really she’s “unpolished”, as Addam puts it. One of the underlying themes of the game is her learning. She learns to care for others. She finds a family in the group and slowly changes. In the beginning she tries to use Siren to kill Brighid, not even considering that would blow up the rest of the party or finding Brighid’s intentions, and at the end she calmly reasons with Milton why he needs to stay, and remembers that they’ll be waiting for her, and this motivates her. And yet, it all means nothing, not in this time period. Malos kills the whole city, he kills Milton instantly. It’s this that breaks her. All of that character progression? It creates her worst fear— her power. She kills Hugo because of her power, she sinks titans because of her power, and she seals herself away because of her power. When you reawaken her in 2 she screams at you for it, because she killed everything she loved, but can’t kill herself. She’s tried everything to end her life, leading to Pyra’s creation, but can’t. Pyra and Mythra ask Rex to take them to Elysium because they want to beg the Architect to die. And even after admitting this to him, Rex doesn’t give up on them. Heck, he doesn’t even think about it. His response is that he’s going to take them there anyway, because he cares for them. He knows what Mythra did in the war and forgives her for it. He teaches her that what matters is now, and most importantly: To forgive herself.

After that moment, Rex awakens Pnuema. Because really, Mythra was holding her own power back, subconsciously or not. In this cutscene, Mythra is finally able to move on.

Mythra’s story is beautiful because it shows her changing. It shows that scars last. And it shows how they heal.

After this, Mythra is different. In the Land of Morytha, she helps Jin, despite what he’s done and despite learning of how he’s a flesh eater. She’s still herself, but she no longer hostile towards Rex. She comforts Poppi when Poppi has the same fear she does.

Mythra has changed.

And her journey is one of the most awe-inspiring stories I’ve experienced.

(TL;DR (I swear I didn’t intend to turn this into an essay): Mythra’s story is one of my favorites in any video game. For that, she’s one of my favorite characters.)

Favorite Moment: Mythra’s promise to Poppi. Not only does lead to an epic finale, but it shows her growth as a character.

On a less serious note:

Idea For A Story: On Ao3, I saw a prompt for basically a hero villain role-reversal story, and I wanted to do this with Mythra and Malos. In an AU that takes place after the Aegis War, Mythra is left half dead and winds up getting found by Addam, who is banished from Torna due to his heritage. I think it would be cool to write Addam teaching Mythra that the world isn’t as bad as her awakening on Amalthus has led her to believe.

Favorite Relationship: Mythra and Pyra. Why would I place this higher than Mythra and Rex or Addam? It’s not higher, I equally appreciate these three relationships but Mythra’s relationship with Pyra doesn’t get talked about a lot. I think that it’s interesting how Pyra was created to be everything Mythra wanted to be. Good at cooking, easy to get along with, as powerful as a normal blade. But despite Rex’s insisting, they aren’t the same person. Not really. Pyra talks to Mythra regularly, and in her own words Mythra is like her sister.

Now that they’re separated, I wonder if Xenoblade 3 will touch on this. I haven’t played yet, almost almost done with 1 and I’m waiting to finish it before starting 3.

Favorite Headcanon: Don’t know a ton but this made me laugh.

Thanks for the message! That's really all I try to spread with the XC games is general positivity. Like dont get me wrong, XC2 has some Problem Areas, I'm not a blind fanboy. I wish Pyra wore some pants. But XC2 is still such a fantastic experience, with a cast just as (and in some cases more) endearing and engaging as in the first game. It was disheartening upon its reveal 5 years ago, seeing people be so ruthlessly against it, and its been disheartening seeing the same song and dance play out for the entirety of those five years.

Both games good, is my ultimate point. Neither is free of criticism, but both are worthy of the "Xeno" moniker.
