have you ever made a rec list of books w good groveling scenes? If not, I’d love if you would share your favs with us
I haven't made a list, nope! I've mentioned some before, but my favorites are always shifting (aside from some holy faves). I'll break 'em up by genre, I lOVE a good grovel.
These are not all of them (I can think of... several other MacLean grovels I love, for example, but she's just really good at a grovel). But they're some!
Contemporary
Kiss An Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Excellent grovel, which is truly made by the fact that the hero is such an asshole to her. One thing I really love about SEP is that her heroines will just like. Vanish off the face of the earth lmao. And the heroes will be like D: WHERE IS SHE???? But yeah, this grovel is less "sobbing at her feet" and more "this man is debasing himself and betraying everything he said he stood for in order to get her back" which... is deeply compelling.
Act Your Age by Eve Dangerfield. Another one where he certainly needed to do it! I don't really see groveling as a paint by numbers one size fits all thing; to me it's about the hero doing something that is hard FOR HIM in a way the heroine recognizes and understands is specifically sacrificial for him. And I think this hero does that. Also, another situation where she just vanishes and he has to deal with his character flaws.
The Master by Kresley Cole. I LOOOVED this grovel. Again, vanishing! I just loved this one because he was so pathetic. This man is like a billionaire mafioso and he's like texting this broad all "idk what you're doing but I hope it's going well :(" lmao I cackled.
Give Me More by Sara Cate. A MMF grovel, so he has to grovel to both of them. And he does! He really has to do the work on himself in order to be worthy of his wife and his boyfriend. It's so good.
Mafia Target by Mila Finelli. LOL MAN. This is an m/m mafia romance, and it's very literally between a mafia boss's son and the guy sent in to assassinate him. They both know. They catch feelings. Then there's a HUGE reveal. And I just loved that this grovel a) doesn't work at first and b) does work in such a quiet, emotionally vulnerable way. Ugh. I love this book. Also...
Mafia Madman by Mila Finelli. This is one where it's so over the top and great, but it also subverts what you think is happening in the moment. And what makes it even more touching to me is that she does not require these physical or monetary gestures he could rather easily make; she requires him to really emotionally collapse for her.
Historical
Something Spectacular by Alexis Hall. This is not a huge grovel because the person groveling did something hurtful but deeply understandable. But this one was so evocative to me. I mean, again, it all depends on the moment right? So sometimes, I do love a hit your knees crying grovel. And this is a good one.
When the Earl Met His Match by Stacy Reid. Another hit the knees moment. This one is rather beautiful and evocative. The hero is also mute, so he actually signs his speech to her. It's really wrenching and emotionally honest and dramatic, and I just adore it.
Untamed by Elizabeth Lowell. A huge elaborate sort of grovel in the way only a medieval romance can do it. I mean, she doesn't even get to hear his totally deranged spiel after she's kidnapped--but suffice to say, the heroine believes the hero doesn't love her and won't come for her, and he's like "IF SHE IS NOT RETURNED TO ME ALIVE AND LAUGHING I WILL BURN THE WORLD DOWN" it's so great. He's such an asshole. He really has to collapse.
Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage by Jennifer Ashley. I really love a marriage in trouble book, and this is a marriage in trouble book that's basically the hero realizing at the very beginning "oh, I need her back" and like, proving himself to her and making up for his bullshit that ruined the marriage. He spoils her to. In every way.
The Day of the Duchess by Sarah MacLean. Another book-long grovel, but the rare grovel where he's actually groveling for cheating on her. These two went through SO much pain. It was so bad. And he has to really spend the entire book trying to show her that he loves her and has changed. It's so great.
The Bride Goes Rogue by Joanna Shupe. AMAZING grovel. Like, I always refer to this one as the one where he leaves treats on her doorstep (like, a 5 star meal, I think he whittles her something at one point lmao) and then attempts this big "WHAT ELSE IS THERE???" moment because like... a grovel is not LEARNING which is always a great realization moment. And when she rejects him in full. My God. It's so good. Him just falling apart. I wanna eat it up. Nom nom nom, I am a dog and I am happily rolling around in mud right now.
The Hawk by Monica McCarty. This is one where he kind of has to make a grand gesture, and it's kind of insane, but it's also great. And I deeply appreciate that, lol. Like, he really didn't have to go that big with the gesture (or DID he). (He did.)
Paranormal
Lothaire by Kresley Cole. LMAO. AND DOES HE EVER HAVE TO. Lothaire has to realize that he is nothing without her (sadly smelling her lingerie for comfort, unable to even kiss another woman when he tries to force himself to do it) and he has to face his greatest fear in a grand gesture, and he has to give her this entire pathetic love confession (and he's losing his shit so he says it in Russian and she doesn't understand but it's so gorgeous anyway).

Catelynn Lowell‘s family feud rages on!
Just a week or so after Catelynn blasted her mom April, teen brother Nick and grandma Judi on social media, Nick released a new video directly addressing his sister— and revealing why he dislikes Cate’s husband, Tyler Baltierra.
Nick’s new video— which was posted to his YouTube channel on Wednesday— also defends April, and doubles down on the accusations he made last week about Ty and Cate taking their kids’ money, and about Tyler’s sexuality.
“Last week my family— and all of our problems— went viral on social media after my sister leaked screenshots out of context, that [were] posted to her Instagram with nearly 5 million followers,” Nick begins his video.
He states that he said some things about his sister’s finances and about Catelynn’s husband Tyler Baltierra that he regrets. (Nick basically stated that Cate and Ty took money from their kids’ bank accounts to pay off their nearly $1 million tax debt. He also stated that Tyler has a boyfriend in Arizona.)
While Nick said he regrets making those statements, he insists he was telling the truth.
“While I maintain that the things that I said were true, it wasn’t my place to talk about, so I wanted to start off this video by apologizing to my sister,” Nick said.
Here’s a breakdown of some of the other topics Nick discussed in his video.
On why he doesn’t like Tyler & the person he says Catelynn’s become because of Tyler:
“I love my sister. I just don’t like who she’s become over the years, and I don’t blame her,” he said. “I want to make that very clear. The problem isn’t my sister, it’s the person she’s married to.”
“I used to love Tyler, but I feel like Tyler doesn’t like us and he’s never really tried to hide that. Recently, my feelings toward Tyler have changed. I don’t like Tyler because of the way he treats my sister.”
Nick then placed a few quick clips of Tyler insulting Catelynn’s weight (including the infamous “I don’t want no heifer for a wife” scene.)
“I can’t and won’t respect a man who tells my sister that he’ll love her no matter what, then proceeds to call her a heifer; a person who says he doesn’t care how she feels, a person who would constantly drag her down about her weight, and make her cry herself to sleep,” Nick said.
“She couldn’t even slice a pizza without Tyler telling her he’s afraid of how big she’ll get,” Nick said, adding that Tyler has allegedly made comments about how people with weight problems “disgust him.”
“If he can say these things in front of MTV cameras, what does he say behind closed doors?”
“The truth is, I miss my sister. Well, the person that she used to be,” Nick added.
On fans’ claims that Nick & April use Catelynn for her money:
Cate has banked literally millions in ‘Teen Mom’ cash over the years, but Nick insisted that, despite what people say, their family feud has nothing to do with money.
“My mother and I have made our own money off of MTV and ‘Teen Mom’ and we have never, and will never, need her money,” Nick said.
On Catelynn’s relationship with April:
Nick stated that the majority of the family’s issues are between Catelynn and April. (As The Ashley previously reported, Catelynn was angry last week that April drank while she was with Cate and Ty on their recent visit with their biological daughter, Carly. April’s drinking has caused a lot of problems between her and Cate over the years.)
“I don’t like our mom being vilified when she had one beer when everyone else around her was drinking, which you know is a trigger for her,” Nick said. “Mom loves you, and your children. She even babysits them whenever you want her to. All she asks in return is for you to not vilify her on TV or social media.
“She has done everything that she can to repair the relationship she once had with you that was ruined because of TV.”
“I love my mom and I’m so proud of all the progress she’s made over the years,” Nick said. “Was she a perfect mom? No. Does she have a lot of regrets when it comes to her children? Of course.”
Nick went on to say that, because she’s been on ‘Teen Mom’ for so long, it’s easy for fans to “villify” April without really knowing her.
“My mother used to struggle with mental health and depression. She has since pulled herself away from that,” he said. “So whenever I see someone trying to bully her, I take offense to that. My mom is literally my best friend, and I’ll go toe-to-toe with anybody for her, because she’s not the person that social media thinks she is. I wish you guys knew that.”
On Catelynn & Tyler’s claims that he stole from them:
At this point in the video, things get a bit weird.
Nick addresses Catelynn’s claim that Nick stole from her and Tyler. He states that he has never stolen from them, and that the item that was allegedly stolen from the Baltierra home was some sort of microphone.
Nick goes on to claim that he’s “95 percent innocent” of the theft crimes he’s been accused of. (Um…?) He then claims that he was “threatened by the person who stole it” at knifepoint (as you are…)
“I was told that if I ever told anybody about it, he would un-alive me,” Nick said. “He then forced me to text this guy and mess with him for about a month, which I stupidly did.”
(Um…?)
“But when they accused me, I tried to tell them what actually happened, and even went out of my way to prove my innocence,” Nick continued.
While he doesn’t reveal who the knife-threatening thief is, he does state that he’s allegedly someone who is related to Tyler.
Nick’s story gets wild, bringing in fake cops and lie-detector tests, naturally.
“[Tyler] convinced [Catelynn] that I was lying, and even went out of his way to make me look guilty,” Nick said. “First, a friend of theirs even impersonated a cop and interrogated me over the phone. And then they went out of their way to pay for a lie-detector test that came out inconclusive.”
(Last week, Nick showed screenshots of texts allegedly between him and Catelynn that talked about the lie-detector test.)
“I’ve never lied to my sister and I’ve never stole from her. To have something like this hanging over us to a degree where I’m not allowed to see my own niece hurts more than anything Tyler could say about me.”
Nick claimed he only made the video because he wanted Catelynn to see it, and she has blocked him from communicating with her other ways.
Cate and Ty have yet to publicly respond to Nick’s new video.

Eve Ewing is the only reason why you shouldn’t be worried for Outlawed
So I see a lot of people worried that Outlawed will turn into a kill all event and honestly if this was written by Dann Slott or Dennis Hopeless, I’d be annoyed with the premise but Eve Ewing actually is aware of how killing these characters could look especially since some of them are the only source representation for an entire demographic that Marvel has at the moment. She is also one of the Champions-verse writers as she has written Ironheart which compared to Wasp, Ms. Marvel, and Spider-Man, was the more Champions inclusive of all the books.
The Champions adjacent books like Unstoppable Wasp, Ironheart, Miles Morales: Spider-Man, and the Magnificent Ms Marvel were/are some of the best books in today’s Marvel. It helps that the writers actually spoke to one another to make sure they didn’t overlap and they actually give a shit about continuity unlike a Donny Cates.
What I’m saying is that Outlawed isn’t putting the Champions in the same situation as the New Warriors in which it is an editorial mandate to make these teens look incompetent as a plot point and also lack a voice in their persecution. And this is because the group as a whole was created to not be like the adult superheroes who will fight each other at a drop of hat or when a chair randomly thrown into a crowd.
Tumblr media
And it also helps that unlike the New Warriors, the Champions have an extensive PR campaign lethal highlights their individual humanitarian efforts such as G.I.R.L. They are heroes with good publicity and online awareness. Riri was Times Person of the Year for non-violently ending an insurrection in Latveria, Nadia is the founder for a non-profit science organization that aims to uplift women from all walks of life to get involved in science, the Champions as a whole have engaged in several environmental missions, assisted in fighting ISIS and helped liberate little girls who wanted to be educated, and both Riri and Miles stopped the human trafficking of poor people of color on their lonesome.
And Eve Ewing is aware of all of this. And she will make the reader aware of this as well. Persecuting the Champions is like talking shit about Greta Thunberg and Malala Yousafzi. And that is why the premise works. The Champions are the voice of a not only discontented youth but a youth who has engaged in activism that goes beyond simply stopping the bad guy. Old white guys telling them what they can or cannot do looks bad and that is the gold of the premise.
“But what about the Runaways, Young Avengers, and Future Foundation?”
From the looks of it and the sound of the premise, this is a street level vigilante event only so Future Foundation can see their way out. Not sure if the ban on teenaged superheroes is on a national level, but we are not sure if Rainbow Lowell is even involved in this event as she hasn’t confirmed or denied it although it would be nice if the Runaways escaped their bubble of being too cool for the Marvel Universe which is pretentious in of itself.
The teams that I could see taking part in this are the Young Avengers(because Marvel will want to capitalize on that brand since there is a movie coming) and New Warriors since the premise mirrors closely to Marvel’s first Civil War and Ewing has stated that she was a fan of the team.
And I wouldn’t want any other writer of this plot. Ewing, if you follow her on Twitter, is a sociology assistant professor at the university of Chicago who has a bit of a consciousness and awareness of what implications mean. No character is going to die unnecessarily here.
And this is a chance for Nova to shine.
Tumblr media
It’s no secret that Sam Alexander has been eclipsed by Miles Morales and Kamala Khan. Shit, I would say that Riri Williams and Amadeus outshone him. But what made Sam standout in Champions was his dumb brash attitude of being the personification of “he may be not completely right but he got spirit.” In the preview, Sam has already shown us why he was the voice of the Champions without taking away from others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I trust Eve and am looking forward to this event. It should be really good and live up to our hopes of not exceed them.

Simplesmente porque desistira no meio do caminho. Averiguando as pobres almas amorosas dentro destes quartos, suponho?”

First of all, thank you for being a constant source of material, I'm never lacking a book thanks to you
Could you name books with really good groveling? Like the hero really has to earn forgiveness from the heroine
And also book recs with the heroine writing/drawing/talking about naughty things she actually doesn't have much idea about, the hero doing things to her and she's like oh well I wasn't expecting this
Haha you're welcome! I try my best.
For groveling, I'd recommend:
Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Contemporary. I'd say that this one actually has a hero who does some really horrible stuff (nothing physically abusive, but he is just an asshole about a big deal thing, though he has his reasons) and has to truly debase himself to get her forgiveness. I really feel like a grovel doesn't necessarily have to be words--sometimes the best thing is the hero doing something that is specific to HIM.
Untamed by Elizabeth Lowell. A 90s medieval, so check your triggers, but this is another one where the hero is such a dick and when the heroine is kidnapped his spy guys come back and are like "dude, she doesn't even think you're going to come get her. And he's like "WHAT. THE. FUCK." and is so horrified by his own behavior that he does... some insane stuff lol.
Mafia Madman by Mila Finelli. All of the Kings of Italy series have grovels (probably my second favorite in the series is in Mafia Target, where there's like a thwarted rejected grovel and then a better grovel). Enzo really needs to grovel, and he does the whole "baby I'm sorry come back I can't breathe with you" thing, but he also does a thing that is so shocking to the heroine because it's a true lowering of his dignity, a true facing his most intense fear moment. And that--hits. He also like. Buys her stuff. He really hits all the key components.
The Master by Kresley Cole. Another mafia book, in this one the grovel is this very pathetic grovel from a very powerful, very alpha man. At one point he's just standing outside the rain watching her through a window forlornly texting her and I find it hilarious.
Lothaire by Kresley Cole. Paranormal. This is another "face your fears, do the thing you're terrified of" grovel, and I appreciate it so much. It's also preceded by this babbling wacky love confession where he's so emotional that he lapses into Russian and the heroine is like ".... I don't get what you're saying but I think I catch your drift".
Give Me More by Sara Cate. A contemporary MMF where one hero has to grovel to both parties, and he does that by actually doing the work and confronting some really problematic shit about himself. It's so good.
Preferential Treatment by Heather Guerre. Contemporary femdom book, and I love that it is femdom but the book also acknowledges that he has a lot of emotional power in the relationship and really hurts her, and it's thwarted at first so he has to come back (literally one of my favorite things is the hero trying for a grovel and the heroine going "no").
The Bride Goes Rogue by Joanna Shupe. SPEAKING OF THWARTED GROVEL, this one has such a great one where it seems to work at first but then he reeeally messes up again and the he's all "WE SHOULD HAVE A SEX MARRIAGE" and she's like ".... no" and his world collapses and he has to try again.
The Prince of Broadway by Joanna Shupe. Another great great grovel where he has to do something that is at total odds against his goals for the entiiiire book. I think of it as a "bend the knee" grovel, but it's honestly better than a lot of on his knees grovels because it's not just a perfunctory thing the writer includes, it's a thoughtful, serious grovel.
Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean. However lol, here Ralston does get on his knees and it's super emotional... and thwarted. MacLean writes a great grovel.
The Day of the Duchess by Sarah MacLean. Speaking of, the hero in this one is groveling because he legit cheated, and it's been two years since and she comes back wanting a divorce, and he spends the entire book groveling. It's GREAT.
Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage by Jennifer Ashley. Another marriage in trouble booklong grovel, but in this case he's groveling for like, a lot of things? Not cheating, but very realistic marital issues imo. They've been separated for three years at that point and he wants her BACK.
The Hawk by Monica McCarty. Lol, this is one where the hero does more of a grand gesture than a grovel, but it's so absolutely bonkers that I just have to include it. RIDICULOUS.
"Heroine writing/drawing sex things" recs:
Matilda Halifax Learns the Value of Restraint by Alexandra Vasti. This novella is exactly that lol. Matilda doesn't know much about sex, but she knows she has some very specific tastes, so she draws this duke doing things to her. The drawings end up (not her fault) in the news, basically, and he tracks her down and is like "WE HAVEN'T EVEN DONE STUFF WTF". They do end up doing stuff, lol.
The Notorious Lord Knightly by Lorraine Heath. This one is a variation, because the heroine is actually describing stuff they did before he left her at the altar, in this anonymous revenge driven tell-all where everyone knows it's him lol. And he confronts her like "WTF" and it's all on from there. The thing is, she only slept with him and it was years ago and they didn't do a lot, so she's still pretty inexperienced and he is... not.
I will say lol... Tiffany Reisz's Original Sinners series does have this (specifically in The Saint, which is easier to read on its own as it's about the beginning of this ongoing relationship in the series) but the series is unfinished so I don't know how an HEA will pan out (right now it's in a "HFN" place) and it is very much erotic and dark. The heroine is underage at the time, and she's writing fantasies about her priest who does read them and is like "honestly.... this is pretty well-written". They don't do stuff while she's underage (well. except for that one time.) but they do have a deal where he gets her out of going to juvie and he's like "deal is, if I get you out of this you'll do everything I say" and she's like "if you get me out of this you'll have sex with me" and he's like "..... fine". This man straight up shows up at her school when she gets in trouble for writing Bible erotica and is like "tbh this erotica is pretty Biblically accurate so I think y'all should chill out" and he's so intimidating it WORKS. Again, very dark and taboo and it has some pretty problematic elements, some of which I'm okay with as a reader and some of which I'm not, and it's DEFINITELY not for everyone, buuuut I do love many books in this series.
The Professor by Charlotte Stein has a heroine who's definitely not a virgin but isn't on her professor's level. She accidentally turns her erotica about him in as an assignment lol.
The Earl I Ruined by Scarlett Peckham has a variation in which the heroine writes a dirty poem basically slandering the hero lol because it implies he likes to submit, and he's like "girl, I am on the other side of that dynamic" and she's all "D:" because she thought he was very stodgy and cold, but soon she's all "... :)" because she DOES like to submit.

Tyler Baltierra has no shame in showing some skin to make money on OnlyFans. The Teen Mom star defended his use of the platform while clapping back at critics of his decision.
The reality star’s response came after his wife, Catelynn Baltierra (née Lowell), promoted his OnlyFans on X and received an influx of comments from haters.
“Cate buys me what the people on OF are requesting to see lmao!” Tyler, 32, wrote. “I’m not shy or shameful about my body whatsoever! She’s having a lot of fun with it, which makes it fun for me [and] we’ve been having a blast doing this together tbh! It’s making well over 6 figures already [and] has stayed in the top 1 [percent]! So everyone who chooses to hate can keep on hatin [and] we’ll just keep on rollin I guess.”
When someone responded to Tyler’s tweet and said that OnlyFans was “degrading,” he added, “Your opinion is totally valid from your perception. But I’m choosing to raise my daughters with the understanding that body’s [sic] are nothing to be shameful about. They’re meant to be embraced [and] loved in all their various forms, especially through the freedom of expression.”
Someone else also told the MTV personality that Brandon Davis and Teresa Davis, the adoptive parents of his first daughter, Carly, would not approve of his OnlyFans venture. “As far as B [and] T go, I couldn’t please them or get their approval if I was damn Mother Teresa [sic] herself lol,” Tyler replied. “Besides, I refuse to live my life trying to live up to anyone’s expectations besides my own!”
Tyler and Catelynn, 31, were in high school when Carly, 14, was born. They placed her up for adoption on their episode of 16 & Pregnant in 2009. The couple has been able to maintain a relationship with Carly, Brandon and Teresa, but the dynamic has been strained at times.
In 2015, there was tension between the families after Brandon and Teresa told the Baltierras that they couldn’t post photos of Carly on social media. However, Tyler and Catelynn were able to reunite with the teenager in June 2023.
“It was absolutely amazing,” Carly gushed exclusively to In Touch in August 2023. “Carly’s getting older, so it’s just fun talking to her about, like, what stuff she’s into. Does she like any boys at school?”
After Carly’s adoption, Catelynn and Tyler went on to have three more daughters, Novalee, Vaeda and Rya, born in 2015, 2019 and 2021, respectively. The girls got to spend time with Carly during the 2023 visit, which Catelynn said she “loved seeing.”
“As long as the girls have a connection, that’s what’s important to me,” she added.
