hey y'all! thank you so much for 300 followers! i really appreciate each and every one of you--i was super worried that my blog would not survive the shadow ban of 2023, and while some pieces that i love are being totally ignored by the algorithm, I'm happy to know that my stuff is finally getting out to people who enjoy it.
as a celebration of both these momentous occasions, i present to you a genshin match-up event!

inform me if there are characters you simply can't stand to be paired with

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, WANNABE!
It’s nearing the end of October! You know what that means? The Comet Halloween Party is almost here. Comet reps have confirmed that the annual event is indeed happening once more, and we cannot wait to see what spooky get-ups the attendees cook up this year. What costume would you choose to attend in?
The Comet Entertainment Halloween Party is an annual event put on, of course, by Comet Entertainment. Hosted by the company’s eccentric CEO, Oh Dongwon, the party is attended by Comet’s own idol acts, but also extends invites to Hongdo and Blackout acts, as well. The event is something of a fixture for idol fans hoping to see rare interactions between their biases, and favourite groups.
Less advertised, however, is the fact that Comet also brings along specially chosen trainees, and invites Blackout and Hongdo to do the same. The event is fun and games on its surface, of course; the idols arrive in costume, and walk a red carpet to enter the venue, enjoy live performances by comedians and seniors, and participate in the yearly costume contest (which there is a special ‘trainee’ category for), but it’s also an important networking event for a number of industry insiders, and executives, who attend. Trainees enter the event through rear doors, and although a few...especially devoted fans often sneak their way around to have a look at the future faces of Kpop, their presence is kept quiet. They are likely warned by managers and trainers in preparation for the event that they are expected to be on their best behaviour, and that their attendance is more of a test of their professionalism than anything else. So have a bit of fun, if you dare, but be certain to dabble only in TREATS and not in TRICKS, lest you land yourself in hot water with your betters.
You can find out more about the event beneath the cut!
BEHIND THE SCENES
Though the main focus of the event is the idols, they are not the only ones invited to the event. As previously stated trainees will also be invited (you can assume that your muse was one of those chosen to attend), however all creatives and staff will be invited as well. Managers will be expected to keep an eye on the trainees they manage, though not as closely as they would usually–they are also expected to have fun!
Creatives and Staff will enter through the back with the trainees. Trainees will be driven to the event by Managers, and Creatives will be expected to make their own way to the venue, which is being held in a closed off part of a fancy hotel.
PARTY ITINERARY
To start the night off, DW himself will be performing his latest hit single ‘Still Alive’, followed by performances from Noh Sunhwa and Chae Seongsoo, Hongdo and Blackout’s CEOs. Once the CEOs have performed the idol stages will commence, starting with Comet’s Celeste, followed by Hongdo’s NEXGN, and lastly Blackout’s N:BT. While the performances are going on party attendees are expected to behave respectfully, but are encouraged to have fun and enjoy the music as long as they do not draw any negative attention to themselves.
Following the performances a band will be playing instrumental versions of songs from all three companies throughout the night. Attendees may request specific songs if they desire. Shortly following the performances a spooky supper will be held. A crew of ‘zombies’ will deliver an enormous buffet to each table, included in which are ‘bloody burgers’, which are simply regular burgers dyed a deep, blood-red colour, ‘eyeball soup’, which is a soup with specially carved vegetables in that look like eyeballs, and ‘finger ice cream’, which is ice cream containing chocolate’s moulded into the shape of severed fingers. That isn’t all though–there’s an abundance of food to suit everyone’s tastes, from vampires, to minions.
Once dinner is eaten and everyone is about to explode, then the fun truly begins! These are all the activities available at the party:
DANCE FLOOR - There will be a dance floor, kitted out with your signature light-up floor, open all night. The band will be playing anything from hip-hop to slow ballads, so if you’re intending to dance with a special someone, make sure you watch out for managers–though rules will be slightly more lax for the party–just don’t go locking lips with someone in plain view of everyone! The dance floor will be where a fun little dance battle will be held. Feel free to hop in a show off your moves–winner is the person receiving the loudest cheers!
PHOTO BOOTH - There will be multiple photo booths around the venue, where you can take group pictures with your friends, drag your reluctant manager in for a funny photo, or even take a cute set of pictures with a special someone. It’s free, and comes with a box of props, such as fake funny noses, feather boas, and masquerade masks in a box just outside the booth.
KARAOKE ROOMS - Off the main hall where dinner is held, and the dance floor is situated, you’ll find multiple small rooms with karaoke machines. Though not large enough to fit more than about four people inside, theses are great places to have a little sing song with your friends!
TWISTER COMPETITION - On the main stage, once vacated by the senior acts, two twister mats will be set up with volunteer staff as the wheel spinners. Competitors will be split by gender and rounds will happen when groups reach a maximum of 4 people.  The winners get random prizes that can be anything from some fancy sheet masks, to an iPad or coupon for a day at a luxurious spa.
APPLE BOBBING - You can’t have a halloween party without a bit of good ole apple bobbing! Lined out across the back of the main hall are big tubs of water with apples floating in them. If you manage to pick one up out of the water, you’ll get a ticket to redeem a day off of training for whenever you choose (as long as it doesn’t clash with a company event)!
COSTUME COMPETITION - Throughout the night attendees will be able to cast a vote in a box by the stage for who they think has the best costume this year. At the end of the night a group of impartial people will count the votes, and DW will call out the winner who will get to come up on stage and have a fun karaoke session with DW himself. They’ll also be given 3 days off of training that they can redeem at any time (again, the same rules apply–no clashing with company events). The winner of the costume party will be chosen at the end of the event (IC time) by a random generator.
TO PARTICIPATE
To participate in the Halloween Party event, please write a 300+ word solo, or a four-post thread with another member, detailing the time you had! You can write about any of the listed activities, the dinner, watching the performances from the seniors, or even about your muses arrival, or departure from the event. The event will happen IC on October 31st from 6pm until 2am, and attendees will be given the following day off of training. OOC this event will run from October 24th until November 14th. Threads may be continued after this point, but no new ones should be started. Please tag all posts related to this event with wb:halloween20 .
For participating in this event you will be able to redeem 1 medal fragment. To redeem your fragment please send the form below to the rewards blog submit before November 21st. After this date any fragments earned will not be able to be redeemed.

3 Principles of Economics that Tether with my Daily Life during COVID-19
Tumblr media
Name: Yusef Mohammed Angar
ID #: 17458780
A concept map (a text-heavy one!) that is meant to be informative while introducing essential economic principles in relation to my quotidian life. NOTE: These are merely examples of transactions that I have encountered in recent memory, and there are certainly a plethora of other instances that correlate to the 3 economic principles of People facing trade-offs, Trade can make everyone better off, and The cost of something is what you give up to get it. Because there are legibility issues, I will transcribe whatever text is included on each of these individual pages.
Tumblr media
While there are impertinent concepts mentioned near the title, including Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), Supply/Demand and Equilibrium, and productivity’s relation to standard of living, it is intended to function as a Segway toward Economics. However, Consumer and Producer Surplus play minor roles in what will be discussed shortly. The hills are representative of Standard Deviation curves, and the “Toll” sign implicitly mentions the opportunity cost of following the “Principle 2 : The Cost of something is what you give up to get it″ route relative to the other route that is primarily about “Principles 1 : People face trade-offs and 5 : Trade can make everyone better.” The individual at the bottom (an animated version of myself) states that “Man, now I want to barter the item that I originally strived to purchase!” This is indicative of the business cycle, and its never-ending existence within the realm of economics; the arrows in between the routes illustrate this trend. In other words, I won’t be satisfied in the long-run, as the likelihood of using whatever I purchase might eventually fade, and would therefore want to trade with somebody else.
Tumblr media
Transcription: (Top Left): “START: Once the eve of the pandemic ensued, I was contemplating on how to reorient my free time; thus, I decided to pull off a beneficial transaction among myself and my sister. The Nintendo Switch, a revolutionary handheld/hybrid console that has been engineered and endearingly crafted by Nintendo’s illustrious team, appealed to my desperate disposition...
Image description: “STOP” sign includes a Nintendo logo on top of it, which also accompanies a Nintendo Switch to the right of it. There are two flags, each attached to the left and right of the STOP sign, and they both indicate that the date is “March 2020.”
(Top center/Blue Stripes): “It was then that I tempted my sister into a deal regarding her console; however, due to the Switch’s market price being sold at $300 (with used variants selling at slightly lower prices), I certainly casted doubts on resonating alongside conventional wisdom. What I did, however, required an iota of guile...”
Image Description: Green arrow pointing along a pathway that mentions how “THE ROAD STARTS HERE!”, and a sign that states how there is “ONE WAY ONLY! DECIDE!” This therefore demonstrates a sentiment that I must be assured of; that I did want to purchase the Switch, and it was a definitive decision that I made over the course of a few months. Some supplemental additions include Mario, Legend of Zelda, and Pokémon insignias across the road, and then an arrow pointing directly to the next section.
(Center/Brown): “PLAN: Because my willingness to pay was ~ $110 (for a 2-year old Switch), it did not appear to be probable. There is a caveat; because employment opportunities were scant in the economic workspace, making money by means of toil was narrowed down to a shadow of its past self....”
Image Description: This sector was intentionally set within an area of construction, which reciprocates with building my way toward a successful barter with my sister. A blue arrow then points directly into the blue section, which is what will be transcribed in the bottom left. A sign above the blue portion of text echoes apportionment from self-elation, and how the “SPEED LIMIT = 15 mph. DON’T GET TOO EXCITED!” If I were to exceed this imaginary speed limit, then my assurance of safety would be tarnished, much like how the deal would get steamrolled!
(Bottom Left/Blue): “My sister was not too dilatory per se, but mused on having to deposit her Switch in return for an opportunity that was of a paucity. Because she originally received it as a gift, there was no “cost of production” to consider.”
(Bottom right/Pink): “Per contra, there was a trade-off, one of the Ten Principles of Economics; because of the miniscule time she invested into her Switch, she eventually accepted $100! A casualty of this deal was a consumer surplus of $10 for me (alongside the Switch of course) and my sister receiving $100.”
Image Description: On the middle of the road, there is a “SIDE NOTE” that conspicuously conveys the following: “A positive externality for Nintendo, the pandemic caused a surge in sales experienced since March 2020.” Even though Nintendo’s flagship console was successful prior, it convincingly prolonged its success, and therefore led to stores having low stocks available. There is also font directly above the Pink section, which iterates as follows: “FROM then ON, I was able to utilize my... (traverses toward the right) FREE TIME fruitfully.” The ellipsis mirrors the conservative approach that is tacitly required during this trade-off, and how my composure has to prevail over internal apprehension (that is, whether or not the deal would triumph).
(Purple section): (font near “CONCLUSION” sign) “Because the Switch’s stock would continuously plummet, my incentive on purchasing a Switch from my sister became grander. (Speech bubble above CONCLUSION): “This mutually forged bridge between me and my sister’s economic wavelength permitted this trade to transpire, and thus left everyone better off.”
Image Description: There is an “OPPORTUNITY COST: REDUCED TOLL + TIME” sign to issue how there was time used in reading this section, alongside a more diminutive toll relative to the “TOLL” sign on the first/front page. There is also a blue-striped arrow attached to the pole of this sign, which essays to make clear that there is a “LONG WAY AHEAD! JUST 10 MONTHS LATER...” This is mentioning the date set for the following example concerning opportunity cost, and how that event occurred in January of 2021. Within the vicinity of the arrow, a “CONCLUSION” sign is slotted, which mimics the “everyone better off” conjecture (both me and my sister smiling, hence Principle 5′s significance in this interchange of commodities and money).
Next Page:
Tumblr media
(Top left/Orange Stripes): “JANUARY 2021: As my assortment of Switch titles implacably amplified, I faced a difficult transaction that I was willing to take. Should I get Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, or CELESTE!?!?”
Image Description: The arrows moving counterclockwise (the small black arrows moving in the orange-striped locus) function as an extrapolation of the business cycle, which was already mentioned beforehand. The animated version of myself surfaces an imperative query regarding this juxtaposition, and rose the “COSTS & BENEFITS” paradigm into full prominence.
(COMPARISON): “Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove: PROS: Contains a multitude of titles that grace the timeless tropes of Shovel Knight, which includes:
1) Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope *The only multiplayer game in this bundle*
2) Plague of Shadows
3) Showdown
4) Specter of Torment
5) King of Cards
CONS: COSTS $40, which fails to match my willingness to pay of ~$20 (that might be setting a relatively quixotic bar when it comes to spending, but the Nintendo eShop intermittently includes surprising deals!).
“CELESTE: PROS: A platforming title that integrates storytelling alongside interstellar game mechanics and charming visuals --> received a 92/100 on Metacritic, and is only $20!
CONS: Unfamiliarity with developers’ previous works and only supports Single-Player Mode.
(RED-STRIPED SPEECH BUBBLE next to Shovel Knight’s enumeration): :HAS RECEIVED A 91/100 on Metacritic, hence classifying its “universal acclaim” tag.
(Bottom Left/Purple Section): “VERDICT: While both titles certainly garner captivating qualities, the opportunity cost definitely binds my decision even more! Whichever game I choose, it will likely itch my excitement and would startle it with authentic thrills; however, my cross-examination led to an intermediary decision that exploits both sets of pros simultaneously. It turns out that Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope is sold separately (move toward bottom right) and costs $15. The opportunity cost of not getting Celeste... (move to the right of the street, but below Shovel Knight’s list) and the other games bundled with Treasure Trove is still intact, but my salience instantly shifted toward Shovel of Hope.”
Image Description: Toward the bottom left and above the “VERDICT/purple section”, the “FINAL DECISION ERODED opportunity cost from my perspective” was engraved on the street heading toward the other page. The severity of one’s opportunity cost is highly dependent on one’s salience, and because I donned a negligent disposition on Celeste and the other titles listed in Treasure Trove (for now at least), my opportunity cost did not prove to be too costly. Additionally, a byproduct of this road map on purchasing Shovel of Hope meant that I wielded a consumer surplus of $5.
Image Description: The red-striped bubble next to the Shovel Knight title meanders within the circumference of ulterior considerations, and how “I initially thought that Yacht Club Games, the developer of this title, attempted on tying Shovel of Hope with the other games.” This postulation was effectively debunked once I realized that 1) Yacht Club Games is an Indie developer, meaning their stronghold in the video game industry is miniscule; this therefore means that oligopolistic/monopolistic practices are truly improbable. As was previously stated, this was an ulterior thought, and was an economic observation that I deciphered.
Stylistic Choice: Why did I construct a concept map that anyone can get easily lost in once they indulge themselves into reading it? This is due to the parochial vision that one asserts when committing economically-oriented decisions, and how there are implicit corollaries to account for when taking such risks. It is easy to get lost in excitement and foreseeing a favorable resultant, yet it is tumultuous to maintain a realistic perception of what might transpire. My sister could have easily rejected my offer if the climate was wholly distinctive, as she would have recouped $100 following the acceptance toward job opportunities. Had I not been explorative enough, I may have been compelled into shelling out a whopping $40 compared to $15, and would likely cogitate on purchasing Celeste instead. Economics suffers from the scourge of inconsistencies, and applying such parables into the experiences I mentioned assisted in the construction of a bridge between Economics and everyday life.

Papaya Salad Contest Party
On January 2018, a Portland-based Cambodian-Lao restaurant, Mekong Bistro, hosted a contest for the best papaya salad. During the event, Southeast Asian community members served papaya salad, or tum mak hoong, which is a traditional dish found in Cambodia, Vietnam, Lao, and Thailand.
The event organizers expected 50 people but had nearly 300 guests. Each person received five pounds of papaya salad. In this mini-documentary, May interviewed organizers including Lucy Vang (Hmong community), Jai Wang (Lao community; co-owner at Mekong), Lorelei Hosmillo (Filipino community), and Saron Krut (Cambodian community; co-owner at Mekong).

RTP #107 – 1st WarmShowers & party logistics
just made my official WarmShowers booking. pretty cool how this works. I called Wade & Deborah W. (located in Dallas Oregon) to ask if I could stay with them on my 2nd night of the trip. (I’ll be staying with Claire Celeste & Michael’s friends in Newberg on my 1st night – my birthday night). looked up their home number on WarmShowers.org she answered the call first and from the sound of it, they get this sort of phone call a lot. she seemed receptive to me spending the night but handed me off to her husband Wade so he could check their calendar. he told me that he rode across the USA back in 2015 and they are regular hosts to cyclists, “in fact we have a guy coming in tonight who’s on a training run from here down to San Luis Obispo, CA…he’s doing the distance in 10 days…he’s average a Century each day (100 miles) as he preps for a Springtime ride across the US. oh, and yes, we’d be glad to host you for a night.” here’s what a typical WarmShowers profile looks like: Deborah and I (Wade) are retired school teachers who love to travel. (We may be traveling when you call or message.) - I ride my bicycle frequently and have toured along the Pacific coast and most recently toured from Lincoln City, OR to Rehoboth Beach, DE. -So ... I understand the needs and mentality of a touring cyclist. We have an extra bedroom available, a family room with futon and plenty of floor space. We also have plenty of camping space out doors on grass or a large deck. -The only thing we ask of you is that you be grateful for your stay and act accordingly. We do want you to feel at home. -The bad news--- is that we live at the end of a half mile gravel driveway that includes a steep climb (9% -14%) over 100 yards. I do not ride this except on a mountain bike. -James Howe Rd. is paved at each end but is gravel where our driveway meets it. It is a climb and the ride from the north end is particularly treacherous and dusty. From the south end, it's about a half mile of gravel with a 14% climb for the first 300 yds. -We would be happy to pick you up if you give us some advance notice of arrival. so, now I need to work the phones a little in the next day or so to line up more WarmShowers overnights – I’m planning the ride down the Oregon & California coasts with a fair degree of certainty where I’ll be each night, but am leaving it open once I turn the corner in San Diego, headed towards Milwaukee. by the way, anyone can be a WS host – you don’t have to be a cyclist – consider joining the network to meet some cool people with cool stories to share from their cycling experiences. it is free to join. traveled for the past 12 days straight to New Hampshire, Colorado, Connecticut and New York City for a variety of reasons and only got to work out on training cycles a few times, but I made significant head-way on my To Do list that needs to be completed before I fly West. details in the next post. the RTP send-off party is now more certain as Brian, the owner of a cool local bike shop (Bicycle South), has graciously agreed to host the event on Saturday March 4th from 7-11pm in Decatur. add to that a very tasty keg of beer from the Atlanta Brewing Company (courtesy of Dave Peterson, who I worked with at North Highland and he’s now a part-owner of the brewery) and we will add some music, food and have a low-key, but cool evening to thank all of you who have been following along on this journey for the past 14 months. let me know if you haven’t received an invite… t-minus 19 days… rick

AEG Community Foundation Awards Playworks $25,000
AEG, the world’s leading sports and live entertainment company, today announced that Playworks, a national nonprofit that supports learning and physical health by providing safe and inclusive play to low-income students in urban schools, has been awarded $25,000 from the AEG Community Foundation as the winner of the 2019 #SpreadCheer Challenge.
The AEG Community Foundation launched the 2019 #SpreadCheer Challenge on November 18, 2019, which allowed three participating non-profit organizations -- Boys & Girls Clubs of America,  Playworks and Special Olympics USA – to engage their communities to complete a digital puzzle which generated points that users then awarded to one of the three charities; the winner being the organization with the most points.
Playworks previously won the 2018 #SpreadCheer Challenge to receive an additional $25,000 grant from the AEG Community Foundation, in addition to its initial $25,000 grant from the Foundation’s first grant cycle.
“We are thrilled to be the winners of this year’s #SpreadCheer Challenge and to receive $25,000 from our invaluable partner and community collaborator, the AEG Community Foundation,” said Celeste Soto, Director of Development, Playworks. “AEG’s #SpreadCheer Challenge enabled us to engage Playworkers throughout the country and our local school communities to celebrate this special time of year through the power of play, just as our organization leverages play to develop safe, inclusive and meaningful play environments at more than 200 schools every day.”
“The AEG Community Foundation's contribution and continued support of Playworks will allow our organization to continue to develop a place for every child on the playground to feel included, be active, and build valuable social and emotional skills throughout Southern California," said Soto.
Over the past three years, AEG has partnered with Playworks in schools in the Los Angeles area through activations with the LA Galaxy and Dignity Health Sports Park as well as serving as the official partner for AEG’s annual Service Day for the past two years, during which AEG brought more than 300 employees to two elementary schools in the greater Los Angeles area to beautify the campus and engage with students during recess.
“Playworks has been a fantastic community partner and we’ve enjoyed growing our relationship with them over the years to advance the important work they do for children and communities throughout the country,” said Martha Saucedo, Executive Vice President, External Affairs, AEG. “AEG is committed to giving back to the communities where we do business and we are proud to partner with all three participating #SpreadCheer Challenge organizations.”
Over the past 10 years, AEG has contributed more than $120 million in direct financial and in-kind support to community and civic programs with a focus on children and youth in the areas of education, the arts and health and wellness.  To find out more about AEG 1Community and the AEG Community Foundation, click here.

Klaus Benedek - forTunea Label mix (8DPromo)
Vienna’s rising forTunea label has released a cluster of quality tunes over the past year, and 2018 is filled with big plans and amazing new music. Label don Klaus Benedek has crafted an excellent DJ mix showcasing some of the label’s sounds from 2017 as well as output from artists in forTunea’s orbit. It’s a pleasurable dive into upfront deep house sure to get your seat swiveling. Have a listen:
We asked Klaus Benedek a few questions about forTunea, the house scene in Vienna, and this mix.
What inspired you to start the label, and when did it begin?
Klaus: I was tired of waiting for my tracks to get released. After signing contracts with various digital labels, it took about a year until my tracks finally came out. That's why I started my own label in 2014. And of course, I always wanted to release vinyl, too. At first I worked alone and there were only songs released by myself. But after a while I received demos from fellow local DJs/producers and so I signed them. The vinyl is always limited to 300 copies (except the first release "Still Daydreaming", 350 copies). If they are sold out, then they are gone. There will be no repress.
Tell us about the Vienna scene, specifically the underground house scene. How are you a part of it? Who are the standout artists? Who's making moves? Anything to let us know about what's happening in Vienna (or Austria as a whole) that makes it special right now.
Klaus: Clubbing in general got its boom since the Pratersauna opened in 2009. However you can't compare the nightlife with other metropolises like Berlin or Amsterdam. Venue owners have to follow regulations and they are strict. So do not expect massive sound systems in every location. They are mostly locked on a certain db limitation. Afterhours parties exist, but they only take place for a few hours. Other than that there is a closing time for bars till 4 AM and clubs till 6 AM.
Before the Pratersauna, electronic music was always more a niche market in Austria. In Vienna, we had only a couple of venues where techno, house, and, at that time, the minimal sound was played. Those were Flex, the Camera Club, the Fluc Wanne, and occasionally some huge, more commercial events in the Volksgarten and the Gasometer. Other than that, drum n’ bass, downtempo, and indie rock were more popular in the Austrian capitol. But since the beginning of the 2010s and the popularity of certain individuals and movies that became a pop culture phenomenon (such as Berlin Calling) that all changed. Techno parties are well attended now. Especially since more locations opened (Grelle Forelle, which has the best sound system in the city) or relocated (Werk) on the Danube channel.
The house scene in Vienna is relatively small compared to the techno/tech house crews. If you really wanna hear Chicago style, deep, garage, lo-fi house, or even disco you need to visit smaller locations like Celeste, Spark, Elektro Gönner, or Sass. Many fellow DJs have their home bases now. For example, Roman Rauch organises the event series Manifest - Spritzwein Session with Nico Nesta and Maaki for more than two years. It’s where you’re most likely to hear DJs that don’t come to Vienna regularly like Move D, Red Rack'em, Hunee, Fouk, and Terrence Parker. Besides forTunea there are a handful labels that have been established or had a breakthrough during this decade. You should check them out, regardless the genre: Luv Shack Records, Secret Crunch, Life Is For Living, Schenkelspreizer, Affine, Step Back Trax, Sama Recordings, Luv Lite Recordings, Morbid, Yoshi, Driving Forces Recordings, Footwork Frenzy.
What is on deck for 2018 for forTunea?
Klaus: In January my Consequences EP will be re-released digitally. After that we will expand our artist roster. In March we will finally release an EP by my good old friend Alex Kolodziej. I think it took almost two years for him to finish the tracks. That’s because he had almost no time. He works in catering and has a 60+ hour a week schedule. Appropriately the record will be called Workaholic. Peletronic and myself will deliver remixes too. In May/June Munich/Bavarian-raised Anatol, who has lived in Vienna for quite a while, will release a 12" vinyl single. And in summer we plan, for our 10th issue, an eight track compilation.
How does the philosophy of the label tie in with your DJ’ing and production?
Klaus: On forTunea not every release sounds the same, and we want to stick to this philosophy. The tenor is always house music. But it shouldn't be monotonous. We’ll release a deep house record, then the next one will have a disco vibe to it, and others will be more techy, broken beat, or with Chicago or Detroit influences. My DJ’ing is similar. I never liked to just play one (sub)genre the whole night. I upload a promo mix on my Soundcloud page bi-monthly to introduce new tracks/vinyl that I picked up and present them in a way that makes sense.
I am making music on Ableton Live, combined with Reason as a master/slave combination. Most of the time I use VST Plugins. But I also work with hardware pieces like a Waldorf Pulse, Microkorg, or my newest baby in the studio, a Korg M1R.
Tell us about this DJ mix.
Klaus: All tracks that I feature in this mix came out this year. Of course, you will hear some tracks that have been released previously on forTunea amongst other artists like Nick Höppner, Ponty Mython, Space Echo, and Demuja. I’d like to highlight Demuja! This guy comes from Salzburg and 2017 was definitely his year. He even released an EP on Jimpster's label Freerange Recordings. In this mix you will hear a track from his current EP on Life Is For Living. Enjoy!

Early life
Edward McKendree Bounds was born on August 15, 1835, in Shelbyville, Missouri. He is the son of Thomas Jefferson and Hester A. (née Purnell) Bounds.[1] In the preface to E.M. Bounds on Prayer, published by Hendrickson Christian Classics Series over 90 years after Bounds’ death, it is surmised that young Edward was named after the evangelist, William McKendree, who planted churches in western Missouri and served as the fourth bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church.[1] He was the fifth child, in a family of three sons and three daughters.[1]
Thomas Jefferson Bounds was one of the original settlers of Shelby County. Prior to organizing the County, Thomas Bounds served as the first Justice of the Peace.[2] In April 1835, he was named County Clerk, followed by an appointment to serve as the County Commissioner in December 1835.[2] In 1836, he began holding circuit court in his home, during the third term each year.[2] In his capacity as County Commissioner, he platted the town into blocks and lots for new settlers.[2] In 1840, he advanced the building of the First Methodist Church. In 1849, Thomas contracted tuberculosis and died.[3][4]
After his father’s death, 14-year-old Bounds joined several other relatives in a trek to Mesquite Canyon in California, following the discovery of gold in the area. After four unsuccessful years, they returned to Missouri. Bounds studied law in Hannibal, Missouri, after which, at age 19, he became the youngest practicing lawyer in the state of Missouri.[4] Although apprenticed as an attorney, Bounds felt called to Christian ministry in his early twenties during the Third Great Awakening. Following a brush arbor revival meeting led by Evangelist Smith Thomas, he closed his law office and moved to Palmyra, Missouri to enroll in the Centenary Seminary. Two years later, in 1859 at the age of 24, he was ordained by his denomination and was named pastor of the nearby Monticello, Missouri Methodist Church.[4]
Marriage and children
Bounds’ first marriage was to Emma (Emmie) Elizabeth Barnett from Washington, Georgia on September 19, 1876. They had two daughters, Celeste and Corneille, and a son, Edward. Emmie died on February 18, 1886.
Twenty months later, Edward married Emmie’s cousin, Harriet (Hattie) Elizabeth Barnett in 1887. To them were born three sons (Samuel, Charles, and Osborne) and three daughters (Elizabeth, Mary, and Emmie). His son Edward, by his first wife, died at the age of six, and his son Charles, by his second wife, died eight days after his first birthday.[3]
Military service
E.M. Bounds did not support slavery. But, because he was a pastor at a congregation in the recently formed Methodist Episcopal Church South, his name was included in a list of 250 names who were to take an oath of allegiance and post a $500 bond. Edward saw no reason for a U.S. Citizen to take such an oath, he was morally opposed to the Union raising funds in this way, and he didn’t have the $500.[4] Bounds and the others on the list were arrested in 1861 by Union troops, and Bounds was charged as a Confederate sympathizer. He was held with other non-combatants in a Federal prison in St. Louis for a year and a half. He was then transferred to Memphis and released in a prisoner exchange between the Union and the Confederacy.[3]
He became a chaplain in the Confederate States Army (3rd Missouri Infantry CSA).[5] During the Second Battle of Franklin, Bounds suffered a severe forehead injury from a Union saber, and he was taken prisoner. On June 28, 1865, Bounds was among Confederate prisoners who were released upon the taking of an oath of loyalty to the United States.
Pastoral service
Upon his release as a prisoner of the Union Army, he felt compelled to return to war-torn Franklin and help rebuild it spiritually, and he became the pastor of the Franklin Methodist Episcopal Church, South. His primary method was to establish weekly prayer sessions that sometimes lasted several hours. Bounds was regionally celebrated for leading spiritual revival in Franklin and eventually began an itinerant preaching ministry throughout the country.
After serving several important churches in St. Louis and other places, south, he became Editor of the St. Louis Christian Advocate for eight years and, later, Associate Editor of The Nashville Christian Advocate for four years. The trial of his faith came to him while in Nashville, and he quietly retired to his home without asking even a pension. His principal work in Washington, Georgia (his home) was rising at 4 am and praying until 7 am. He filled a few engagements as an evangelist during the eighteen years of his lifework. “While on speaking engagements, he would not neglect his early morning time in prayer, and cared nothing for the protests of the other occupants of his room at being awakened so early. No man could have made more melting appeals for lost souls and backslidden ministers than did Bounds. Tears ran down his face as he pleaded for us all in that room.”[6]
According to people who were constantly with him, in prayer and preaching, for eight years “Not a foolish word did we ever hear him utter. He was one of the most intense eagles of God that ever penetrated the spiritual ether. He could not brook delay in rising, or being late for dinner. He would go with me to street meetings often in Brooklyn and listen to the preaching and sing with us those beautiful songs of Wesley and Watts. He often reprimanded me for asking the unconverted to sing of Heaven. Said he: ‘They have no heart to sing, they do not know God, and God does not hear them. Quit asking sinners to sing the songs of Zion and the Lamb.'”
Writing background
Only two of Bounds’ books were published before he died. After his death, Rev. Claudius (Claude) Lysias Chilton, Jr., grandson of William Parish Chilton and admirer of Bounds, worked on preserving and preparing Bounds’ collection of manuscripts for publication. By 1921, more editorial work was being done by Rev. Homer W. Hodge.
Chilton said of Bounds’ books, “These books are unfailing wells for a lifetime of spiritual water-drawing. They are hidden treasures, wrought in the darkness of dawn and the heat of the noon, on the anvil of experience, and beaten into wondrous form by the mighty stroke of the divine. They are living voices whereby he, being dead, yet speaketh!”[7]

10 of the UK’s best boutique festivals
When it comes to festivals, size matters – though often small is best, as we found in our roundup of dance and DJ-driven events around the UK
Kelburn Garden Party, North Ayrshire
Just outside Glasgow, Kelburn Garden Party is a colourful event held in the grounds of an appropriately colourful castle: a 13th-century stately home daubed with the work of Brazilian street artist OSGEMEOS. Among the hidden corners of the garden will be art, performances and the intimate stages that make up the festival. There’s also the “Neverending Glen”, a trail that leads through the forest to find multimedia art installations, sculptures and secret events. This year headliners include poet and rapper Akala, Mr Scruff and The Hot 8 Brass Band, while Scottish dance music stalwarts Optimo will be collaborating with Canadian producer Jayda G for a takeover with the Numbers crew, bringing a bit of Glasgow party flavour to the proceedings. The festival also goes all out for families, with many events and entertainments for kids throughout the weekend, on top of the Kelburn estate’s existing attractions. • 30 June-3 July, adults from £104, children from £21, under-fives, free, kelburngardenparty.com
Houghton, Norfolk
Photograph: A Moore
With a licence that permits music at dawn and dusk, this event at Houghton means twice as many of those magic, euphoric moments that only come when dance music coincides with the arrival or departure of the sun. Add location to the mix: a dense woodland beside a lake, an abandoned warehouse and a subterranean bowl to explore and you have a recipe for an enticing new festival. Curated by DJ Craig Richards, the debut event has a bill of the best electronic acts; Ricardo Villalobos, Nicholas Jaar and Floating Points headline, along with notable live acts, Hercules and Love Affair, Tony Allen, Yussef Kamaal and Cobbleston Jazz. The rest of the lineup is a list of underground DJs well versed in generating the kind of emotional sets suited to a festival like this; Midland, Horse Meat Disco, and Joy Orbison to name a few. • 11-13 August, from £140, houghtonfestival.co.uk
Brainchild, East Sussex
Photograph: Hollie Fernando
Brainchild promotes a DIY philosophy and, as such, is a festival born out of the desire of one student to create a platform for the talent she saw in her friends. Marina Blake’s project has grown into a festival that pulls together the work of more than 300 young creatives, from visual artists to DJs; a rare event that’s focused on supporting new talent. Don’t expect a huge, high-production affair – instead, it’s all about small stages, interactive installations to play with and probably a lot of people getting ideas for their own projects. This year’s bill features DJs such as Anu from south London’s Rhythm Section and the Touching Bass crew, London’s young people’s laureate, Caleb Femi, and performance work from the likes of actor/activist Joana Nastari, who is presenting work deconstructing London stripclub culture. • 7-9 July, from £70, brainchildfestival.co.uk
Field Maneuvers, south-east England
Photograph: Jonny Pénzes-Underhill
Field Maneuvers is a club-sized festival made by clubbers for clubbers. That means around 700 people decamping to a secret rural spot just outside London for a weekend filled with underground DJs and an easy-going, respectful party atmosphere. Staging is simple and the focus is on the music, but everyone still manages to get lost inside the Sputnik Dome: a tiny smoke-filled sphere that seems to send dancing bodies into another dimension. Outside the dome, however, everything is chilled; by the end of the weekend expect to know pretty much everyone on site. This year’s lineup features a live show from Octo Octa, Bristol house producer Shanti Celeste and Panorama Bar resident Ryan Elliott. • 1-3 September, £119 plus booking fee, fieldmaneuvers.com
Festival No 6, Portmeirion
Photograph: Andrew Benge/Redferns
The toy-town-like Italianate village of Portmeirion, in Wales, is something really special. This means that as well as concerts in Castell park, festivalgoers can catch intimate performances in smaller venues in the village, such as the Town Hall: a Jacobean venue that hosts a programme of free workshops and lectures; the Gatehouse (home to film screenings and live re-scores); and the Dome Gallery, where you’ll find acoustic gigs, talks and DJ sets. As well as major headliners (the Flaming Lips, Bloc Party and Mogwai), Festival No 6 goes to great efforts to curate a broad arts and culture selection: expect comedy from the likes of Adam Buxton, spoken word from the Tongue Fu crew, and experiences such as hot tub sessions and paddle boarding (not together, possibly). • 7-10 September, from £180, festivalnumber6.com
Gottwood, Angelsey
Photograph: Jenna Foxton/Fanatic
Amid the rugged idyll of Angelsey, North Wales, Gottwood is a boutique electronic music festival that pulls together the work of some of the UKs best underground club brands: from Leeds’ classic Back to Basics to south London label of the moment Rhythm Section. The intimate stages are set around a forest clearing, with a lake and campsite with a view over the coastline. The fairytale surroundings and tastefully illuminated woodland make for a mesmerising atmosphere, at a festival soundtracked by headliners including Antal, The Black Madonna, Helena Hauff and Matthew Herbert. • 8-11 June, day tickets £55, weekend ticket £176.50, gottwood.co.uk
Secret Garden Party, Cambridgeshire
Photograph: Alamy
Launched by Fred Fellowes in 2004, Secret Garden Party immediately sent ripples through the UK festival scene; it shifted the focus away from getting the biggest bookings towards investing in arts and performance, immersive environments and intimate hangouts, quickly leading to the explosion of boutique weekenders. This year, however, Secret Garden Party bids farewell to its loyal followers, with a final blow-out before the team moves on to a new project. Peaches, Wild Beasts and Ray BLK headline at a festival that creates a seemingly endless playground of installations, costume, humour and surreal surprises. • 20-23 June, £190, secretgardenparty.com
End of the Road, Wiltshire

Born a year after Secret Garden Party, End of the Road is another labour of love: a much-respected festival that always pulls together a strong folk, indie and Americana-leaning bill. This time it will feature indie darlings Father John Misty and Bill Callahan, alt-country singer Lucinda Williams and slurry garage rockers Parquet Courts. One treat on the bill is outstanding Malian musician duo Amadou and Mariam, while the festival also has a programme of films, comedy, literature and workshops. With a capacity of around 11,000, it’s a festival that’s perfect for those who are eager to avoid the exhausting scale of some of the biggest events in the calender, a festival you can enjoy at your leisure, taking the time to stumble across the little details, like free books on a shelf around a tree stump. • 31 August-3 September, £189, endoftheroadfestival.com
The Beat-herder, Lancashire
Cut La Roc perform in The Fortress at the Beat-herder Festival. Photograph: Andrew Benge/Redferns
An independent festival known for its creative, handmade site and eccentric atmosphere (there’s even a heated swimming pool), Beat-herder is an enviable party with a mixed music policy held in the Ribble valley. Among the stages are a giant steel castle, a parish church (don’t miss the Sunday service) and a working men’s club, but the real treat is the Toil Trees stage, a beautiful venue among pine trees, magical during the day, mystical at night. Headlining are shouty Notts duo Sleaford Mods, Trentemøller (Danish producer of atmospheric electronic music) and old-school dub star Lee “Scratch” Perry. DJ sets from Faithless, Jackmaster and Jon Hopkins will have people dancing at all hours. • 14-16 July, from £144.70, beatherder.co.uk
Farr Festival, Hertfordshire
Photograph: Jake Davis/Here & Now
With its woodland setting, Farr Festival is another boutique event with a focus on creating curious spaces and environments to explore. The 2,000-capacity festival spreads its acts across six stages, which this year includes Brilliant Corners – the east London audiophile bar now bringing the finest hi-fi quality sound on tour. Big names in underground clubbing are also involved: NYC party Mister Saturday Night, London club series The Hydra and Amsterdam’s Red Light Radio; while artists range from Todd Terje to Red Axes, Omar S to Tama Sumo. • 13-15 July, day tickets £40, weekend ticket £99, farrfestival.co.uk
