It is raining in Val Royeaux.
Zarya'th looks out into the center of her panopticon, her strange eyes studying all that the Lord of Extinction has provided for her. The smell of petrichor permeates through the strange environment within this house.
She is without her left arm, a rarity. It has been sent to the chambers deep within her domain for diagnostic maintenance. From the stump that remains are thick black tentacles, writhing as they are exposed to the irradiated air of her quarters.
It is a bad time to be an Agent of Fen'Harel assigned to infiltrate the Inquisition. The rains in Val Royeaux have changed. They are heavy and corrosive, they eat away at the faces of the lions and saints that decorate the city's core. Yet the Chantry's buildings remain. The White Spire remains, unblemished by the fallout-rain that has traveled from the elven ruins or the Valley of Sacred Ashes.
The rains trap everyone within the White Spire.
Zarya'th's tentacles stop writhing as she rising to her full height. Her slightly damn white hair slips between her back appendage-vents, over the structure of her shoulders. She unfurls her tail as she disappears into the dark of her domain to go hunting.

Ameridan is the first realized that two of the new recruits were infiltrators. He recognized the code they wrote in, pulled from the same cryptic stanzas from poetry during the days of Halamshiral.
Zarya'th told him that they had to wait. They will want to get more information. They want what we know, they want what I know. They will learn what I am and think it is a revelation. They will stay here for too long.
The First Inquisitor looks out from the one of the windows of the tower within the panopticon. The smell of ptrichor fills his lungs whenever he breathes. Abelas is eerily still as his neck is connected to the one of the giant metal boxes within the tower. He sits with his eyes closed, his breathing steady as he begins to feel the building. The rain releases petrichor from the stone, blooming beneath strange black metal.
He feels it in his skin, what little remains of it. The rains and the change in pressure are felt in his bones, in the connectors and servos that are now his joints.
At times the distance is a challenge. Abelas has found one way to bridge the gap, to interface directly into the building itself. It allows him to. Ameridan looks out from the sweeping windows of the tower. It is hard to see Zarya'th behind the walls of rock and metal, the little grated portholes in the walls all one can glimpse of her. Boredom threatens the vigilance of the seekers assigned to this watch shift. Most days, nothing happens. Most days, they are staring at black rock and black metal.
"She is hunting," Abelas says, his machine-split voice breaking the silence.
Ameridan felt the change in the air and saw that Zarya'th was not sitting where she was a moment ago.

The hunt is enriching as it is nourishing.
She sees so well in the dark now, able to see exactly how the agent goes deeper in the panopticon, deeper into her domain.
They are trapped in more ways than one. They are trapped in the protective suits everyone except Abelas is forced to wear when they go inside. The only door leading out will not open for them. They will be stuck in a decontamination chamber, tightly locked to prevent the radiation from leaking out.
Zarya'th stalks her prey in the dark. She waits until they are deep enough to strike.
The bladed end of her tail punctures through the chest of one of the agents, her long fingers unfurl to drag them into the deepest dark by their head. There is the sound of crunching, the protective body suit ripped open, a body being broken apart for the Herald to devour its insides. Tentacles hold the body still as her good arm sinks deep into the agent's body to pull out the most vital organs. Blood gushes onto her face, it soaks her two mouths and her teeth become a slick red-black, it sprays into her hair.
She eats and she eats. The other agent retraces their steps, back up the levels, where the veilfire lamps are brighter, where it looks like someone actually lives and works in this space.
The body drops as Zarya'th resumes her hunt, ascending through the dark. Veilfire flickers.
As expected, the agent is unable to escape. There are still no alarms despite their unwelcomed presence.
Zarya'th crosses the threshold into her own living space, the lamps flickering as her presence magnifies the pressure she exudes. The agent's death is near instant as she crushes them against the door, her tail tearing through the suit, through bone, through flesh. Tentacles squeeze the agents body, breaking their insides, holding them still as she eats, and eats, and eats. Red sprays onto the door, it pours onto her floor. Her space is humid from the added moisture of blood and fluids from the agent's body.
She notices the sending crystal amongst the gore and rips it off the agent's neck, letting the remains collapse onto the floor.
The leather of the chez-lounge creaks as she sits down, looking out the grated windows facing the central tower. Her tentalces writhe softly again. Her stomach is full and satisfied from the violence.
Zarya'th's hand crushes the crystal when she hears Solas's voice on the other end.
It is raining in Val Royeux. The smell of blood and petrichor permeate through the Herald's panopticon.

'Supergiant' Gold Deposit May Be Worth Over US$80 Billion

A "Supergiant" deposit of high-quality gold ore containing an estimated 1,000 Metric Tons (1,100 US Tons) of the precious metal was discovered in Central China in late 2024, according to Chinese State Media.
Valued at up to approximately 600 Billion Yuan or US$83 Billion, the discovery could be one of the largest and most lucrative reservoirs of gold ever uncovered, surpassing the 900 Metric Tons Estimated to Lie Within the Mother of All Gold Reserves, South Deep Mine in South Africa.

Some commentators are not yet convinced of the deposit's scale and feasability, but if the discovery becomes verified, it will represent a major find for China.
The Geological Bureau of Hunan Province announced the detection of 40 Gold Veins within a depth of 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) in the Northeast Hunan County of Pingjiang.
These alone were thought to contain 300 metric tons of gold, with 3D modeling suggesting additional reserves may be found to a depth of 3 kilometers.

"Many drilled rock cores showed visible gold," said bureau prospector Chen Rulin at the time of the discovery.
Core samples suggest every metric ton of ore could contain as much as 138 grams (nearly 5 ounces) of gold – an extraordinary level of quality considering ore excavated from underground mines is considered high grade if it contains more than 8 grams.

China Already Dominates the World's Gold Market with reserves considered to be in excess of 2,000 tons earlier in 2024, its mining industry contributing around 10 percent of the global output.
Announcements of the findings initially contributed to a further increase in the already skyrocketing gold price, with demands for the resource generally rising strongly in time of global economic uncertainty.
Just how many bonanzas of the valuable ore remain yet to be discovered around the world is unclear, with experts divided on whether we've reached peak gold.

Based on these findings, we might be far from exhausting economically viable reserves.
Core samples taken around the periphery of the Hunan site hint that the deposit may extend even further than initial predictions, making the reservoir beneath its soil a true dragon's haul.
The discovery in late 2024 capped off what was a notable year for gold discoveries.

And just months later, research by scientists in Australia discovered a new mechanism that may lead to the formation of gold, suggesting the seismic activity of earthquakes actually plays a role in the creation of large nuggets.
But that's not all. In addition to learning more about how gold naturally forms, scientists are also investigating new things that can be done to manipulate the precious resource.
A study published in April 2024 reported the creation of a new kind of two-dimensional gold called 'goldene', measuring only a single layer of atoms in height, which has some interesting properties not seen in the three-dimensional form of gold.
