“Rippon Vineyard “Central Otago in New Zealand 

2023年５月１日、ニュージーランドの南島南部セントラル・オタゴにある”リッポン・ヴィンヤード“を訪問しました。セントラル・オタゴは、近年フランスのブルゴーニュ、アメリカのオレゴンと並び、「ピノ・ノワールワインの主要生産地」と言われています。 

リッポンに到着してその敷地内に入ると、息をのむような美しい風景、湖につづくブドウ畑を見下ろすそのパノラマに圧倒されます。訪問時は、収穫後のブドウの葉が黄金色に紅葉。

テイスティングルームはその丘にあり、ワイナリーの方が丁寧に説明をしてくださいました。

南緯45°に位置するセントラル・オタゴは世界最南端のワイン生産地で、南島西部にそびえるサザンアルプス山脈に守られて、山脈西側の年間降水量が5000mmに対してセントラル・オタゴがある東側は、わずか600mm。そこに位置するリッポン・ヴィンヤードは標高330ｍ、ワナカ湖の湖畔にあり、世界でも数少ないフィロキセラの被害を受けていない多様なシスト(片岩)土壌の畑で、3年前からバイオダイナミクス農法を採用。大陸性気候で真夏の気温は3０度を超えますが夜は10度以下になる大きな昼夜差が、ゆっくりと成熟する豊富な酸を保った高品質なブドウを育て、果実味豊かで引き締まった酸味のエレガントなワインを造りだしています。 

この日の試飲アイテムは

１）Osteiner (Riesling とSylvanerから作られたドイツのブドウ品種)

２）Sauvignon Blanc 2021(40%を古樽で発酵。すっきりした中にもコクがある味わい）

３）Rose 2021(Gamey40%、Pinot Noir 60%。爽やかで気軽な飲み心地)

4)  Pinot Noir 2019（10カ月樽熟成、自社畑数か所のブドウを使用した正にRipponを語るワイン）

5)  Riesling 2020（華やかな香り、果実と酸味のバランスが絶妙で、洗練された味わい）

6)  Gewurztraminer 2021（自生酵母による発酵。優雅で透明感のある味わい）

 帰りがけ、ワイナリーの丘に椅子等を設置して結婚式の準備をしているのを見かけました。純白のウェディングドレスを着た花嫁がこの景色の一部になるのを想像して幸せな気持ちになってリッポン・ヴィンヤードを後にしました。

Felton Road, Chardonnay Block 2, 2017 Issu de vignes composées de sols de graveleux de schistes, ce Chardonnay reflète bien la nature de son terroir avec des nuances minérales et le côté variétal du cépage (pommes, abricots). Son caractère salin en attaque souligne la fraîcheur qui se propage jusqu'en fin de bouche. Notes de graphite en finale. On se surprend à réclamer un peu plus de pep, mais cela serait faire injustice à ce vin de le lui reprocher, tout au plus on le signale. Quelle belle réussite. W’ve circled and crisscrossed the South Island now for many times and Moonlight was another of those great finds! W’re so happy to have our Campervan 🚐as there’s nowhere else to go..
