CHEMTRAILS FOR THE WICKED

the working title for the ✨ helium throat novel adaptation ✨. so far:

i’m reverting back to the first person referral pov that i used in the og draft of helium throat [which was removed in the current version for plot reasons]. very excited to have another novel in referral because it's my favourite pov [unhealthy obsession tbh]

emily gets to be the most unhinged version of herself here

revival of a character from the older drafts called julia, who used to be emily’s roommate / best friend / girlfriend [they were very much lesbians but i was 13 and a coward and did not yet understand that lmaooo]. julia remains one of my favourite characters and i am so excited for her to be back, and considering emily’s 180 degree character change in this version, it will be very interesting to explore their new dynamic.

probably going to delve into internalised racism [something i try to stay away from in my writing because it gets real personal real fast] in a more intense way than my other wips, because this doesn't have an all poc main cast unlike most of my other wips so there's going to be a lot of!! intense emotions.

this novel’s going to have things that are now basically my writing brand: complex queer relationships, motherhood, an extremely personal and intricate relationship between the mc and someone who’s dead [*eyes a thunderstorm of a crime and finding orion and technically house plants*]. it’s kind of weird that this is my most recent “novel idea” even though it's one of my oldest stories; it’s wild to me that i’ve never thought of how well it works as a novel.

Referring to my negative preconceived notions - it was nothing bad ksjsks. I just thought he’d give our British man some southern accent and do all thing cringy stuff. I’m being stereotypical but I’ve seen some old John Wayne movies and I’m like oh no… but I was bored and read it and I’m so glad I did!! Such a unique concept that I’m sure hasn’t been done before. Or at least at much as other concepts lol

Honestly, all I wanted with CFTW was to tell a story that encapsulated that folkloric feeling of a forbidden romance, whilst keeping everything cute and light BUT whimsically uncertain.

Also Evermore came out right when I started working on the story, and the general vibe of the songs, especially Ivy and Willow gave me lots of inspiration!
