Agere Dead Sea Siblings headcanons
Their brains do age regression as a coping and defense mechanism from trauma
Technically all flips but only Percy calls themself a caregiver since Nico and Hazel only take care of him when he's a Little while he does it in general for anybody who needs it due to him being an adult while they're only kids
Hazel's ages are 2-3,Nico's are 3-5 and Percy's are 7-8 with the occasional 2
As a cg,Percy does babytalk sometimes, carries them around, gives them extra kisses and takes them on safe adventures like gardening and playing hide and seek. He's learned how to spot when they're tiny when they try to hide it and eventually it gets to the point where they stop trying because of all his reassurances and how safe she makes them feel so now instead they make a b-line for him when it happens
Percy was actually able to repress his regression out of sheer spite and anger when it started(Poseidon genes)but after his self-eestem improved he told Sally about it and she did research so they could find out what was up with him and by then she'd adopted Nico so they knew he's one too and same goes for Hazel when him and Percy ressurected her at Persephone's request so she'd be a part of the Second Great Prophecy
They're all animal regressors too-Nico's a baby bat,Hazel's a pony/fillie and Percy's a kitty
Little!Nico and Hazel call Percy 'Papa/Mama' as opposed to their usual sibling terms for her since while she's normally already a parental figure to them, their age amps it up big time and they call Little!Percy 'Princess'
And Little!Percy calls them 'Coco' and 'Azie' while Cg!Percy calls them his 'Little Rockstars' and 'Precious'(as in pearls)
Nico likes halloween costumes,card games,chewy tender food,being thrown around and storybased songs,Hazel likes tutus,Monster High,black louisiana food sweet or heavy kinds,playfighting,hyperpop and Percy likes coloring,tickles,bubble baths,fairy tales,themed food(Cookie Monster especially)and Lo-Fi Chiptunes
Nico's a pretty quiet kid and takes naps a lot but still energetic,Hazel's even more of a little shit and gets even girlier and Percy's a handful but not in a bad way
Sally saved up to buy them an easy bake oven, toy phones that match their tastes(A box of fries for Nico,a ghost with a bow for Hazel and a pink cat for Percy)and even made them pacis with the diy skills Percy taught her
The cat themed communication cards Nico and Hazel made Percy as a thank you for all he's done for them come into use her for both Percy themself and them borrowing them since she's cool with it
Hazel plays witch often and Percy's more than happy to be her familiar wether he's big or tiny
Nico likes feeling independent so his siblings don't overdue it so he dosen't cry or throw tantrums. However,he's also extra sensitive to his chronic pain in this state so he also understands he needs help with certain things
Hazel's hair is often filled with colorful butterfly hairclips by Percy's doing at her request,Nico's hair gets put into protective styles for safety by Sally or one of his siblings and Percy perfers having his styles changed throught his regressions
Their favorite shows are Max and Ruby,Kiya and the Kimoja Heroes,Bluey,Blues Clues,Dragon Tales,Adventure Time and Spidey and his Amazing Friends with Percy having a huge (platonic obvs) thing for Gwen Stacy thanks to it and the Spiderverse movies so she has secondhand merch of her and made her Atsv suit for herself so she could wear it
And she also made a Miles Morales one for Nico since they're literally Siblings!Ghost Flower and a Peni Parker one for Hazel based off the Across concept art since Hazel has a huge crush on Peni
Nico also loves Tiny Titans and Hazel is the number one Koriand'r fan and Percy models his drawing style after the DC Superhero Girls 2019 one
Percy started collecting stim gifs for them and they did the same for him but with Sonic the Hedgehog memes and cute fanart
Nico also calls Percy and Hazel 'Squish/Squishy' as nicknames since they're both fat/plus-sized and have expressed that it makes them feel insecure
They have matching Aquapets and Percy's even more into legos in tiny mode than he is normally
They have a big children's makeup kit they all share because it has sections with different kinds and that's why Sally bought it for them(i.e One's goth makeup, another's pink and purple and yellow and the last one's ocean themed along with all of them having glitter options)
Percy's obssessed with Rainbow Dash all the time but copies her speech as a Little and can't play his scary games like Undertale and Deltarune in that state so he plays Nickjr games instead
Hazel's a no impulse control kid but knows what she's doing, perfers figurines over plushies because she likes the texture better and same goes for sneakers over slippers and adores clowns!!
Percy earns the nickname 'Wonder Woman' because of the greek demigoddess and expert at being good with kids combo
Sally made the Familia Jackson Beach Shack 100% child-safe because of them

Comparing the SCM gods to the ones of greek mythology
Tumblr media
(before you start reading, please admire this beautiful gif........ Okay, thank you:D)
Warning: Cursing, spoilers for some main stories, at least one dirty joke, if you see any typos I cannot be hold accountable even though it is all my fault, also if you like Aphrodite... Well, I'm sorry for the offense...
Leon—Helios
Helios was known for being a beautiful god and always dressed in the finest garments, while riding his chariot across the sky. And he was also very powerful—like Leon🙃. Also, Helios is one of the deities of fire (because sun + fire?? You know how it goes) and leo is a fire sign. (I was close to assigning Zeus for him, due to how horny they both are, but Leon has limits. For example, if a bunch women were surrounding Leon, he'd try to escape them, while Zeus would try to multiply his dick in order to fuck all of them at once.)
Scorpio—Ares
(Scorpio is my favourite SCM god and Ares my favourite greek god, so that comparison makes me really happy 😭💘) They're both misunderstood and seen as harsh and cruel, but that's actually not the case. Just like Ares was a great father for his children, because he wanted them to have the father he never did, Scorpio also has that side to him with Antaresia. And in general, they both show a menacing façade at first, but if you search deeper, you'll know what brave, fair and respectful men they actually are.
Teorus—Apollo
Apollo's a bright god, hence being the ruler of the sun—among many other things, lol. And Teorus also owns a bright personality with how friendly and cheerful he is. Also, he is in charge of the shifts between days and nights later in his stories and that also reminds me of Apollo.
Dui—Hestia
Both sweeties and cutie pies to a fault and peacemakers. Hestia is protector of the household and that takes me back to Dui and how much he values the concept of friendship and happy relationships in general, given his experience with the loss of his friend.
Huedhaut—Hades
They both get the short end of the stick, yet none of them complains. Also, Hades, the gloomy and isolated god of the underworld is wedded to Persephone, the sweet, bright goddess of spring, who everyone seems to love. Doesn't that remind you of Hue and Clotho??? Here. *Passes you a tissue box* We can cry together.
Ichthys—Hermes
Hermes represents the concept of communication and that is a connection that came to be made between him and Ichthys, due to how extraverted and friendly Ichthys is with everyone. Also, Hermes comes and goes between the world of the living and the underworld, so I compared it to the department of punishments.
(Also, Apollo and Hermes are besties and that can give us Teorus and Ichthys soooo)
Karno—Demeter
The moms of the group. Sweet, nice and tender, but both can surely kick your ass if needed. Also, Demeter's love and protection towards Persephone makes me remember Karno and how he cared for the MC when she was still a little kid.
Zyglavis—Dike
The goddess of justice with her symbol being the scales is something that brings Zyglavis to mind and I won't accept objections.
Aigonorus—Hypnos
No explanations needed. No objections accepted.
Krioff—Hephaestus
They both have fire as their element and Hera Y E E T I N G Hephaestus off Olympus is a connection between their family issues. Also, they're both rumoured negatively among the gods. Hephaestus for being ugly and Krioff for being the god of destruction.
Tauxolouve—Dionysus
They're both pretty chill and they're both very artistic, given Tauxolouve's love for painting and Dionysus representing the concept of theater. Also, don't you freaking dare to look me in the eyes and tell me that this cg of him pressing the grapes to his lips isn't very Dionysus of him. Don't! Don't even dare lie to my face!
Partheno—Aphrodite
They're both known as deities of love and beauty even though they have a pretty revengeful side to them.
(No offense to anyone liking Aphrodite, but I'd gladly add my signature to wipe out Aphrodite and replace her with Partheno. Aphrodite and Zeus are the two things I hate most—after math and snails.)
Bonus:
The king—Eris
Now, for this one, I was between Eris and Zeus, but I ended up with Eris, due to the lack of hormonic chaos from the king's side. Eris is the reason the Trojan war occured (*wipes tears at the flashbacks*) and what does that remind you of???? 😄 The king's mania to fuck with everyone's peace and quiet!! 😃 Also, Eris has taken and a liking to Ares, because he represents the negative side of war and that means more food for her AND THAT REMINDS ME OF THE PLOT OF SCORPIO'S SEQUEL AND THE KING'S OBSESSION WITH HIM!!😃😃😃
Now, I know there are plenty of other greek gods that could he compared to the SCM gods, but I had to pick one this time soooo yeah. :D (I can probably do more parts though, where I'm comparing more greek gods to the scm ones)

olympia soiree review after 100%-ing the game... general consensus of my brain worms is that the premise, its themes, the japanese cultural context, and the lore are its biggest strengths. but it needed a heavy editing hand. writers gotta trust their audience more bc we really do not need flashbacks to a thing that happened three minutes ago. it just felt like some great solid bits that were bundled up way too much w superfluous padding. as such the pace suffered and what should have been devoted to developing further why byakuya and her li would fall in love is spent on filler and revisiting info we already know
the spiciness and the sheer romance of the cg scenes are so good but sometimes it was whiplash when byakuya and her li were suddenly in soulmates mode. the individual scenes were chefs kiss but the relationship development overall felt less earned which made those scenes less impactful than it should have been. i know it's just the two weeks but cmon ive been sold less believable absurdity in less that time
anyway in terms of each route:
himuka - tbh he really didn't leave a lasting impression besides his place in the lore. my fave thing is his character design and i spent most of the route pretending this was a yuri game lmao i think his was the one where i rly questioned why byakuya fell so hard and fast (and she does that in every route but his especially i was like.... but why are you suddenly so ride or die??)
tokisada - cute! but im not typically a fan of the little bro type. when he talks about walking into the ocean tho i did cry 😢 his bad ending main menu speech is so good. i love it when men break down despondently 😌
yosuga - loved him up to That Scene. i love possessive dubcon stuff in otome but this was a character who was established to be someone who prioritizes consent and safety for the female citizens of yomu so it just seemed so out of left field and uncharacteristic. did enjoy the hades and persephone analogue vibes tho
riku - such a fan of this nerd. for some reason i felt his angst more than i did the others perhaps bc his biggest obstacle in returning byakuya's love was his own self. rly related to his desire and anxiety to live up to other people's standards and his general ineptness in romantic situations. bc it often ends w byakuya being the most forward one which i always enjoy whenever the mcs take the lead in otome. had fun w him but he and byakuya felt the most whiplash along w himuka
kuroba - enjoyed his personality for most of the game and was honestly thrown off that he ended up being the most yandere of the bunch. which is interesting considering the reveal of who his birth father actually is. was not a huge fan of how they treated sexual assault in this route. like i intellectually understand why the good ending is like that but they rly should have let that motherfucker choke. handkerchief callback was adorable tho
akaza - BIG FAN of bbq dad. his was the one i was looking forward to the most bc he was the one byakuya was the most resistant in giving a chance. and im just a sucker for decent men who give off a bad first impression bc they take things too seriously. i love his insistence of asserting himself and byakuya as singular entities and not bound by the fate of their roles which is a deft way of tying the relationship with the game's overall themes. his route felt the most believable in selling why they're compatible and why they fell in love because they went to intentional multiple dates where it truly felt like they were learning about each other. i would have liked some room to explore his faults and fears outside of byakuya but i enjoyed his route the most so i can't complain too much
other scattered thoughts
the short stories are great esp the memoirs by the supporting cast. made me appreciate them more bc it gave them nuance and complexity
SHURA 🥰 complicated women my loves. wish tho that her bitterness against byakuya wasn't also rooted in her infertility. not that the motivation is inherently bad but as one of the few female dynamics byakuya has it isn't great
hairi devolving to villainy was understandable but disappointing. wish tho that there was one character based in yomu who wasn't on byakuya's side but wasn't also a villain either.
douma reveal just doesn't sit right in the end like they're trying to establish this grumpy dad vibe when douma spent the majority of the games not just being grumpy and stoic but actively being an asshole and almost resentful
kanan i was generally annoyed with until i got through the bad endings and read his memoir and i did a complete 180 on him. earnestly really enjoy this asshole now and i find him fascinating as a villain
tsukuyomi's memoir is my absolute fave "now i water the cherry tree" just the existential resignation of it all....
don't have much thoughts on the obvious allegory and how it explores oppression as a theme namely bc im missing the cultural and historical framework w my largely western lens and i think context here is absolutely imperative to do this justice

Hello! 🏰 30+F looking for a mythology/fantasy/medieval based thread!
I am specifically looking for a m/m ship and have a few different muses (dom and subs) that i can use for this. I am not looking to write a switch but i am willing to write more than one thread/character for variety. The threads can even coincide or exist in the same universe for fun world building! My preference is real life fc's (i tend to use athletes) but i do not mind if yours is animated/cg/real life, they just need to be more humanoid than not!
I prefer to brainstorm for a plot, but please know i love cliché tropes and default to them (omegaverse, soulmates, hades/persephone styled verse, reincarnated lovers, etc).
I only write on discord, present tense 3rd person and no tupperbox. I lean towards novella for writing and am advanced lit. My preference is slow burn emotions with lots of spicy fun tossed in, so a balanced of 60%plot 40%smut. I tend to mainly reply on weekends but i love ooc conversations and sharing of art, visuals, fanfics (if we share fandoms) etc etc
Please leave a like and I'll come message you!! 💝
give a like and anon will get back to you

I haven’t started watching love between fairy and devil yet, but I’m already faving/rebloging (and fangirling) with all those beautiful gif sets *aawwww*. it’s just that everything about the cdrama seems so GREAT (btw, the cg looks AMAZING) and made for me (villain romance; hades/persephone vibes; dark/grumpy male leader x sunshine female leader...). I should control my hype, at least a bit xD, but it’s so hard.
tell me, are you already watching it? do you like it?

☆ Little Goddess ☆
I wanna be like Persephone. She's the goddess of spring and daughter of Demeter, goddess of earth and nature. But she's also the queen of hell, and her husband is hopelessly in love with her. So she must me like the ultimate pastel goth, adorable and sweet and yet fierce and majestic. I will be a little Persephone.

🐶. Who are your fictional caregivers? Do you have a 'main' one?
🐇. Talk about your relationship! Is it platonic, romantic, ect, what is your dynamic like?
🐙. Do they have any nicknames for you? Is there meaning behind them?
thank you so much for the ask!! i hope i was able to give you a proper response ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
🐶 Who are your fictional caregivers? Do you have a 'main' one?
i have so many fictional caregivers, but to highlight there's donna, harley & ivy, joel, yor, and quanxi! my "main" ones that i think about the most often taking care of me are donna, harley, and ivy.
🐇 Talk about your relationship! Is it platonic, romantic, ect, what is your dynamic like?
i would say that the majority of my relationships to them are platonic/familial. to be completely honest i haven't ever considered having a romantic relationship with any of my other fictional caregivers besides donna and quanxi but i could definitely see something like that now for some of them. ( /pos /lh)
🐙 Do they have any nicknames for you? Is there meaning behind them?
absolutely!! i have many, so i'll do my best to list most of them out. most of them are just sweet petnames that make me melt thinking about them calling me that.
donna: little one, love, owlet, bambolotta, coniglietta, but my favorites would be fiore mio, dolcezza and tesoro
pammy: sweetheart, tulip, kid, flower, angel (nickname based off of my self insert oc)
harley: kiddo, birdie, chickadee, pumpkin, sunshine, munchkin, short stuff, tater tot
quanxi: kiddo, twinkle toes (sarcastically but lovingly), squish
joel: kiddo, honey, baby girl, peanut
yor: (insert name(s)) ~chan / ~tan (since most of the time that i'm personally aware of is what i was called by family/friends)
bonus! (because my heart couldn't take not talking about some of my other beloved cgs /j /lh)
nobara: baby, nugget, potato
maki: little bird
persephone (hadestown) : sweet pea, berry
hades (hadestown) : songbird, moonlight, treasure, sweetheart, little one
vanessa : bugs
freya : love, sweetness, otter (again, from a self insert oc /lh)

This is a good question! Hmm...if I had to say Side characters? Persephone, most definitely. I adore her ;~; She's just a ray of sunshine. I don't like Hades' route, but I LOVE that girl to death. (Lowkey I would date her and I honestly wish she had a route). I think I cried the most in Medusa's route though .-.; (Is a weakling)
thats incredibly valid, i LOVE persephone so so so much <3333 ill never get over that scene in hades’ route where mc thinks persephone is coming onto her LMAO gods i wish she’d gotten a route too.... honestly there are a lot of characters that i wish received routes but efreedfedf
oh man really? i mean i totally understand why, her route is Tough (esp season 1, with that cg???? wow.) but i think i cried the most reading astraeus’ with hydra’s a close second

*•.¸☾―《 barbara palvin, cisfemale, pansexual 》persephone kingsley is a 23 year old who works at the club as a dancer. she is described as vivacious but also reticent. it is known that they enjoy cg/l & tpe, but they do not enjoy vore & scat.
welcome this angel, persephone, or seph.
tw: child neglect and abuse
✵ have you ever heard of shreveport, louisiana? neither has anyone outside of shreveport, louisiana, but that’s where persephone was born.
✵ her parents divorced when she was very young, her father remarrying but her mother staying single (minus a few dates here and there). neither of her parents were very wealthy.
✵ in fact, seph grew up pretty poor. she saw the worst of the worst of poverty and knows what it’s like to eat different kinds of rice every night for a month because rent needs to be paid and there are few other options to cut costs.
✵ their power and water has been cut more times than she’s willing to remember.
✵ seph struggled with her parents’ separation and subsequent divorce given that neither parent really seemed to step up to take care of the girl. eventually, after she started school and they saw that she was seemingly malnourished and wearing clothing that was in shambles, dcfs got involved.
✵ seph was taken from the home. she later confessed to the abuse she suffered at the hands of her father and his new wife, mainly when she tried to get affection or attention. but her mother wasn’t a better option as she lived in squalor. persephone was put into the foster care system.
✵ at that point, she was seven years old and no one wanted to adopt her. she bounced around from foster home to foster home, keeping mainly to herself, doing her best in school, making a name for herself outside of the neglect.
✵ when persephone aged out of the foster care system, she struggled to make it on her own.
✵ she tried escorting for a while, but she hated it. she didn’t want sex to be anything except for meaningful. one of her clients, the only one she’d ever gotten remotely close to, recommended she try exotic dance. she could move well enough and with a little practice, she might even be good.
✵ so she tried it. she got good at it. seph used the money to put herself through undergrad, with the plan to be a social worker and help kids like she’d been. grad school, however, to earn her masters is a different story.
✵ it’s hard, and she already spent all of her money on undergrad. she found an opening at aftershock and auditioned, thrilled and somewhat surprised when she got the job. her plan is to work as long as it takes to be able to afford grad school and go from there.
✵ 10/10 smol lil thing who enjoys love and affection. but she’s always a little wary of people’s motives and, as much as she doesn’t want to, tends to keep people at arm’s length. She’ll get there.
✵ for connections, i definitely want clients. friends that she wants to trust but just can’t bring herself to do so. maybe a mentor or two who can help her navigate this place. maybe someone she knew from the foster system. more, if you’ve got the ideas! i’m excited to get started officially and answer some starters!

Can you explain more about Kyoukai no Shirayuki? I'm a huge fan of Kinako's art so the stuff you've been reblogging has me really intrigued :3
Oh, gosh, I wish I could... I cant read japanese, so the game is unfortunately inaccessible to me, but the game’s art style and the character design is so pretty that I’ve done as much digging as I can.
The game is loosely themed after snow white (the protagonist is called such, though she eats a pomegrante instead of a poison apple, so it’s also possibly referencing Persephone?) The heroine falls asleep and is whisked away to a dream “mirror” world.
This video has the game’s opening theme, which I love, as well as some voice samples and character CGs
youtube
This video contains a short scene, where you can hear more of the voices as well as the pretty sprites and sprite animations.
youtube
I’ve seen some talk here and there in the otome community about an english translation. Every now and then, someone in the english community will email one of the localization companies that frequently work with otome games like aksys (who’ve done recently done Code: Realize, Collar x Malice, and Bad Apple Wars - that last one you should also check out if you like Kinako’s style!) and will get back response along the lines of “we’ll take it into account, if there’s enough interest” etc. The game is on the PSVita, which has seen a whole slew of localization in the past few years but is no longer being supported, so it’s unlikely that we’ll see any more localizations for that system, and Otome developers (including idea factory, the publisher of KnS) have announced that they’re switching their focus to the Switch. Otome games are frequently re-released and ported, so if KnS gets that treatment a localization is possible, but it’s not in the cards at the moment.
This answer is both rambly and unsubstantial, but this is something I’m very interested in ^^

retellings of myths and fairy tales
As a voracious reader, I have read many, many, MANY books through my time here on this planet. And naturally, although I read all sorts of books, there are certain genres, and sub-genres that I prefer. Among them are novels based on fairy tales, fables, and/or mythology. This is a popular genre on its own, and within this fandom/readership you'll find readers who absolutely love this or that one tale - i.e. Beauty and the Beast, and so they gravitate towards retellings of that story.
I enjoy various fairy tales/myths and their retellings, and have come across some amazing novels/graphic novels/TV shows/movies, et. al. Some are retellings of just one myth/tale, while others are a mashup of various stories - for example the TV show 'Once Upon A Time', or the graphic novel series 'Fables', or the Elemental Mages novel series by Mercedes Lackey. And naturally, I am going to see the same character presented in some wildly different images/personalities.
I also like reading reviews, both of books I love and books I hate, and sometimes gain valuable insights, even from people who hated a book I loved, or vice versa. However, one complaint that I find to be absolutely unnecessary in the genre of retellings of myths/fairy tales is 'the (character) in this story is not MY (same character)
When I read about people complaining that (character) would never act this way, this is not my (character), that's not how (character) is supposed to be, this is not how I imagine (character), I can't help but think, yeah, no fucking shit, Sherlock! Different authors/writers/artists are going to envision the same character in different ways, and that's one thing I like about retellings. I don't wanna read the same thing over and over and read about Beauty or Cinderella or Persephone or whoever being the same personality type and having the same experiences (or reactions) every time I read a story based on that character or myth/tale. Sure, there are some retellings I've enjoyed more than others, but I try my best to judge them to the same standard that I would judge a book of any genre. There are plenty enough issues that can harm a book, regardless of what it is about, without slamming someone for their interpretation of a character.
So if a character - whether they be female or male or the main character or a side character - doesn't match my own personal conception of that character, I'm not going to trash the author and give their work a 1-star rating/F/thumbs down or whatever.
It is useless and trite to attack a retelling (or its author) for not turning out the exact way you want it to because it's not YOUR retelling. There's a reason why mythology, folklore, and fairy tales are so beloved across the world, and why the subgenre of retellings of these stories is also a popular one in the world of literature. It's honestly fun for me to read different stories about much-loved characters, and this has caused me to come across, and truly enjoy other people's retellings even if what they decided for this or that character wasn't something that I would have chosen for the same character in my own imagination.
P.S. I'd like to add a list of personal recommendations here. I've done my best to recommend stuff I think that most if not all of my readers/fans would enjoy, but naturally, reading/media preferences are not entirely objective :)
Movies
Shrek. I know it's probably a bit dated now, but it's still an overall solid fun CG-animated film that mashes together various fairy tales. Secret Magic Control Agency (also known as Hansel and Gretel) Another CGI movie, this one is much more recent and I recently watched it on Netflix. It's goofy but fun, and like Shrek, mashes up various fairy tales. The 10th Kingdom. TV/movie miniseries, it's a bit old, but it's still hella lot of fun and mixes different fairy tales along with creating some new ones. Disney. Some people love it, some people hate it. I'm not pro- or anti- Disney (except for specific things or whatever) but some of their movies have been solid. I like most of the cartoon movies even though some of them are quite dated. For the live-action remakes, I've really liked Beauty and the Beast, and The Jungle Book. For the animated ones, my favorites are Hercules, Brave, and Princess and the Frog (though when I was a little kid, the Little Mermaid was my absolute favorite!)
TV Shows
Once Upon A Time (at least, the first 4 seasons. After that it just jumped the shark) Various fairy tales mixed up into an urban fantasy setting, had an original premise and the first few seasons were solid storytelling with intriguing characters. Ever-After High (based on the YA novel series of the same name) I'm not a huge fan of the ultra-skinny bodies they use for the majority of the characters, but I like the stories themselves, this is another mix-up of various classic fairy tales. Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess (starring Kevin Sorbo and Lucy Lawless respectively) Some of the episodes could be really out there or anachronistic, but it's a fun romp through mythology, and not just Greek or Roman.
Novels
Monsters of Greek Mythology by Bernard Evslin. When I was a kid, the library had a bunch of books in this series in individual hardback format. The collection is now available in e-book version, sans the illustrations that came with the hard copies, which is a shame as the various pictures depicted could be spot-on at times (they were photos of various works of art, from modern to classical, with some recognizable works by recognized masters of art) Elemental Masters series by Mercedes Lackey. I have not read the few most recent titles (as of 2022) but most of the early books are solid, being a mix of fairy tale retelling and urban fantasy settings (Victorian and Edwardian eras) Personal faves being Phoenix and Ashes (Cinderella) and Reserved for the Cat (Puss in Boots) Daughters of Zeus series by Kaitlin Bevis. A refreshing modern-day YA take on various myths, particularly those of Persephone and Aphrodite, with some surprising (but fantastic) twists on the old stories. Receiver of Many/Destroyer of Light-Unlike the previous recommendation, this is Hades and Persephone that is not safe for the kiddies. But it's well-researched and well-told, with a sexy Hades. Rawr. Beauty by Sheri S. Tepper. A mix of medieval, modern fantasy, and science fiction, Beauty is one of the most original takes I've ever seen in fairy tale retellings, and overall this is one of my favorite authors for sci-fi. Several fairy tales are mixed in here but the main character/story is based on Sleeping Beauty. American Gods by Neil Gaiman. How the fuck can I NOT put that here? :) Beauty by Robin McKinley. Based on Beauty and the Beast, and really made an impression on me back when I read it in high school. Beauty's smart and good-hearted, a winning combination. And the Beast? Hmm, read and find out for yourself. Songs on Bronze by Nigel Spivey. The author takes on various Greek myths and retells them, adding interesting detail. Not a full-on novel but a collection of various myths the author chose to retell. Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. Based on Cinderella, this was one of the most unique and memorable novels I've ever read. Highly recommended.
Graphic Novels
Fables series by Bill Willingham, including various spinoffs such as Jack of Fables and Fairest. Heavily based on fairy tales including many popular ones such as Snow White, Cinderella, or the Big Bad Wolf, but it does have mythology and folklore as well, with many sources and references. Hades, Lord of the Dead by George O'Connor. This is the fourth installment in the Olympian series by the author, but I chose this because I love the myth of Hades and Persephone, and this is a really fun graphic retelling of the myth. The Sandman by Neil Gaiman, including spinoffs such as The Thessaliad or Destiny: A Chronicle of Deaths Foretold. This includes a lot of mythology from around the world, including Christian mythology.
This is just a partial list, I've read/seen PLENTY of stories within this genre, but didn't want the list to become too long :P For more book recommendations (or to share your own recommendations with me) check out my book reviews/blog at M.M. What is the point or purpose of your project?
Beginning my project, I wanted to explore my own experiences with being a woman, and how other people, both women and non-women's experiences compared to mine. Through my art work I want to influence how people view their own and others' lives. I hoped to make use of the skills I had brought from A Level, and developed through the start of the foundation course, to create art that showed my own views, and those based on those by artists that I researched. I also hoped to improve my painting skills, both traditionally and digitally, and develop my own style that can run throughout my work.
What have you found out about yourself by doing this work?
Working on this project has allowed me to turn my experiences into art, and give an element of beauty to otherwise negative experiences. I also feel that I have brought out and celebrated aspects of myself, such as my own femininity, which I enjoyed being able to present within my art. The project was also an opportunity for me to blend my traditional art and painting skills, with more contemporary and abstract art that I had developed during the start of the course.
What is your project’s benefit to the wider world?
My art's purpose is to make people look internally and reflect on their own character. I like to make art that people can reflect on, and see aspects of themselves in, since that is the kind of art that I enjoy. Some of my pieces tell a story, which may be open to interpretation, and can change the way people think about certain topics or people. It can allow people from different backgrounds and times to communicate with each other indirectly.
Sum up your FMP in just 10 words (choose well!)
Fruitful, Feminine, Raw, Uncensored, Layered, Intimate, Silken, Confident, Dramatic, Passionate
If you had 1 year and an unlimited budget, what would you want to create art-wise?
If I had to work on my own project for a year, I would like to create an animated television show based on the plot of a graphic novel I have been working on. I am particularly inspired by series such as Adventure Time and Steven Universe, which I watched during my early teens, and would like to create something that can have the same impact on other people as those did on me. I would enjoy working with a team of like-minded people to create something that can bring my own characters and story. I hope to pursue animation as I find animated shows have a charm that cannot be recreated in live action. Some recent animated shows make use of 3D CG, making characters more lifelike, but retaining an older style, which I think would suit my work well.
How does your work make you feel?
My own work gives me mixed emotions - I am generally proud of the work I produce, especially the parts that I consider myself good at. However, I am constantly looking to improve on my previous work, so I look at it with great scrutiny. This means that work that I was not entirely confident with, I sometimes see negatively, as I pick out things that I know went wrong or I could have done better, which helps me to improve in future projects. I find that looking back on work that I wasn't happy with but managed to improve, very satisfying. This unit, most of the work I have completed has had a whimsical sort of feel to it, which makes me, as an observer, feel calm and at peace.
What have you been watching and reading over the FMP period?
Over the FMP period I started by watching Killing Eve, as I knew I wanted to analyse the plot and imagery within it. The show itself explores the relationship between two women, which tied into my project, as did the biblical imagery, and portrayal of different female characters. I continued reading the Lore Olympus webtoon, which was related to my project as well. I had been reading it before the project began, so it worked well as a stepping stone for ideas, especially regarding my research into the Hades and Persephone myth. Outside of the project, I re-watched my favourite animated show, Steven Universe, which follows a young boy who lives with the Crystal Gems - magical, humanoid aliens - in the fictional town of Beach City. Steven, who is half-Gem, has adventures with his friends and helps the Gems protect the world from their own kind. This was one of my main inspirations for wanting to pursue a career in animation.
What do you personally and particularly connect with?
Following on from the media I have consumed over this period, I feel that I particularly connect with stories that feel like the writers enjoyed making them. Often children's television shows have a more joyful element that I particularly enjoy. I also look for media with strong female leads, and good LGBT representation, both of which are important to me. I enjoy listening to people discussing the things that they are passionate about, as well as characters or worlds that they have created for their own work or enjoyment. Stories told through art; television, drawing, painting etc, are important to me as they have influenced the direction of my life and career, and I hope that my work can one day have the same influence on others.

I love the MacTaggart brothers. In this, the third book of the series, we follow the eldest brother Coll as he tries to buck his mothers dictates to find a wife among the English. Running from another of his mothers setup attempts he stumbles across Persephone, a highly regarded actress. As they become friends Coll offers his protection from unruly fans in return for her help with his quest. As they get to know each other things take a dramatic turn that forces them to acknowledge their feelings. In a race against time and an unknown foe they come to realize just where they want to be and with whom. Family closes ranks and everything comes to a head in the end. A fast paced read with an amazing happily ever after for the ending Coll finally finds the lady for him. I love this series so much and I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as I did. #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookreviewer #bookrecommendations #bookrecommendation #bookinfluencer #netgalley #suzanneenoch #hitmewithyourbestscot #historicalromance #historicalromancenovel #bookdragon #bookwitch #booklr #bookcommunity #bookaddict #bookish #prettycover https://www.instagram.com/p/CG-sVRlgjPx/?igshid=10l8zfdabv0n0
