EXO "Obsession" theory part 1

Part 2 | Lucky One Theory

• Let's first dive into the main theme before exploring other details. Obsession makes us wonder whether X-EXO are evil clones. On the contrary Baek mentioned something similar in their behind the scenes video (pls click on individual screencaps to read):

The boys are involved in this good v. evil fight as we know. Now that we have the theme of alter egos confirmed I wanted to mention there is a song on the album called Jekyll (지킬) the idea is borrowed from R. L. Stevenson's book and makes it easy to connect the dots. The lyrics of the song make it clear about the main plot of this era so we move on...

• Chen plays a game of chess with his evil counterpart. At the end there are certain pieces that remain - knight, knight, 4 pawns idk how this is valid since if a king is in checkmate the game ends conventionally.

I believe Chen and his counterpart are the knights. Now knights + pawns = 6 members in comeback. This might mean that Chen is in control and knows things which the other 5 don't since they are just "pawns" for the time being. He is also the only good guy remaining or smth out of these 6 and others might have been corrupted or defeated??!

I believe Chën won.

There are multiple footages of their chess board too: it might mean each of their actions is being watched by the RF. But I'm still not sure why they have the screens in their room (since Chen has the power of Thunder which could roughly go with electricity?). Is Chen keeping an eye on Chën?

• Moving on.. Chanyeøl is the one in center when the song begins. He is also the only member with eye-catching continuous patterns on his outfit. Something about Chanyeol seems a little off. I have started thinking of reasons for his behavior and vulnerability which I'll surely discuss another time :)

Clearly they emphasize how Chanyeøl is the leader of X-EXO or smth, like the most destructive force. In the mv all of X-EXO (except Sehůn) glow red but we see that only Chanyeol (special emphasis on red eyes) looks like that. This makes me think he is consumed by his evil ego:

Chanyeol and his X-EXO counterpart engage in a physical battle using fire:

At one point Chanyeøl is engulfed by fire as they fight and later we see Chanyeol radiating flames. He is also seen on the red side of the ground, encircled by the fire - hence it is clear he loses the fight. More explained about the fate of doubles in part 2

• Kai is a biker and his scenes with Kāi reminds us of bullfighting. In the first gif below, we see how Kai tries to dodge his matador counterpart:

There are negative versions of Kai and his evil counterpart (maybe they fight in two different worlds since we know Kai teleports like in MAMA). I'm unsure who wins the fight since both appear with subdued expressions in inverted colors.

I'll also mention that in the performance video of EXO AND X-EXO, Kāi and Kai interact:

• In this picture we see there are 12 rooms → for the original 12 "legends". Only 6 members took part in this comeback so the other rooms are empty (Luhan Tao and 🥴 belong to the rooms below but were trapped in the maze). Notice how Kai is in the center of the OT9 rooms — he is the key to something. From Japanese, Kai translates to Recovery in English: it could mean protection and restoration of the tree of life to its prosperous state since "tree of life and the heart slowly grew dry" in MAMA intro. This is something very important to revert to as we unravel their clues to the story.

•We see exo playing video games/reading comics in some teaser photos of other releases, the vcr from their EXplOration Dot (Day 1, Seoul) and even Power mv and merch reflects this vibe - which makes sense that the battle at such a physical level is fictitious (and being endured mentally). These might be dreams the boys have after the RF drugged them or possibly influenced them in some way.

Music Monday #215: Xiumin - Brand New release: September 2022 genre: Kpop

Now that I'm back to doing these, got so much catching up to do it's hard to know where to start. But whatever else I may or may not be, I can't entirely escape being an EXO-L and really, who can resist mochi cheeks? ;)

Over the years, Xiumin has made a handful of appearances as a soloist in connection with various K-drama OSTs, perhaps most notably Moonlovers - Scarlet Heart Ryeo, plus a Station collaboration with Mark of NCT. As a part of EXO, he's both a skilled vocalist and dancer, but not necessarily a stand out in either - which, when your teammates include Baekhyun, D.O, and Chen and your comfort zone is also ballads, then what are you going to do? Keep going steadily forward ... and take a two year break to do your military service. ;)

When we got Kai's solo debut at the end of 2020 and the ending scene was basically an announcement that D.O and Xiumin would be back soon (which was true, since they were ending their military service periods within a couple months of "KAI"'s release), the speculation started almost immediately. Was it going to be solo projects to continue the trend? Another full(ish) EXO comeback, like Obsession? Another special subunit like EXO-CBX and EXO-SC? What we eventually got - a special anniversary comeback and promises for solo activities from both, led to a lot of (im)patient waiting for another Xiumin solo single, somewhat tempered by knowing he was finding personal and professional fulfilment as a cast member of a Korean production of Hadestown. If you had asked me before Brand New's release what I was expecting from Xiumin's solo "debut," I'm not sure what I would have said ... but title track "Brand New" wasn't it and I mean that in the best way possible. Given his previous singles were largely OST tracks, I suppose I was expecting a ballad, so to instead have a happy, pop-y EDM song as the lead track was a bold choice. "Brand New" is a statement track, all about making a new start and showing a new side of one's self, and Xiumin gives great energy throughout. Perhaps unsurprisingly, given who we're talking about here, the video is packed full of lore references that I'm still unpacking myself. We've been so starved for EXOplanet content in this post-Obsession world, so like always it's nice to see those callbacks, from the use of Xiumin's power (ice) to the EXO hand sign in the dance routine at the end of the choruses. That said, the story of the Legends remains rather stuck and theories are all over the place while we continue to wait for someone, somewhere in SM to officially un-fuck the 12 Legends storyline. This doesn't put a single toe towards doing that and in fact if I were pressed to give an answer, I would probably file this under "Ice Legend in The Dream" as far as how it connects, but even that is entirely based on my trying to work out some answers for why we have some limited confirmation that X-EXO has/had a clone of Xiumin but no canonical explanation for why the clash between EXO and X-EXO has so far only been demonstrated via "Obsession," so only 6 forces - Fire (Chanyeol/Chanyeøl), Light (Baekhyun/Baëkhyun), Teleportation (Kai/Kāi), Water (Suho/Suhø), Storm (Chen/Chën), and Wind (Sehun/Sehůn). For story purposes, having Xiumin injured and dreaming is a reasonable cover for his absence and could help explain the implication at the end of Obsession that our heroes have lost. Brand New has been out for awhile now and it's the shorted eighteen minutes of the late summer, but what can you do? ".. I haven't heard much of anything about them. No one will say anything. They all look at me with a terrified face before fucking off. It's starting to piss me the fuck off." Suho snaps, his fingers pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration.

The men of EXO had heard countless rumors about a new group who had supposedly taken over a large part of the district but hadn't heard much more than that. No matter which contact Suho went to, none of them would say anything but instead act terrified.

They were all planning on taking EXO out, he just knew it. They had the most land in the district, the most clients, drugs, weapons, and even girls. They were unbeatable but yet others tried to take what they had worked so hard for. Nothing ever came of it, but they never stopped.

Greedy fucks.

This time would likely be no different. Some groups would either try to raid the house, a decoy warehouse or a club and be completely dumbfounded when there was only 1 or 2 of them left standing within seconds.

EXO was not one to be fucked with. Despite their smaller size, with three of their members down, they were still the most feared. Why anyone would continue to try and take from them was astonishing.

"I have a contact that I'll try to get some information out of." Sehun voices before standing up to exit the room. Suho knew of Sehun's accomplice, and he was usually relatively good at telling him information that no one else wanted to share, which was why Suho had no issues compensating him accordingly for his help.

"What else can we do?" Baekhyun asks.

"Take them all out." Kai smiles, placing his knife on the table in front of him.

"One by one." Chanyeol smirks, his mind going to all the different ways he could end someone's life.

These men had absolutely no morals, no remorse, no regard for human life. And they loved every second of it.

Sehun pulls out his phone as he walks towards the front door. His contact is usually home, but he calls anyways as a type of curtsey since he has become more of a friend than an acquaintance.

The number you have dialed is no longer in service.

"Weird." Sehun murmurs before sliding into the driver's seat of his car, heading out the opposite side of town.

Once Sehun reaches the slum of their city, he walks up the broken down stairs of the almost condemned building. He will never understand why Q insisted on living in this run down shit hole.

Sehun bangs on the door with his fist, the knock that the two of them came up so Q would know it was him. But instead of someone opening the door, it slowly creaked open without anyone on the other side. Sehun walks in slowly, his hand placed securely on the handle of his gun tucked in the back of the waist of his jeans.

"Q?" He yells out.

No answer.

Walking into the living room, Sehun is met with a sight he really never thought he'd see. A lifeless Q laying on the floor, with a man who looks identical to him crouching over the body.

"Not Q. Sehůn." The man smirks before Sehun's world goes dark.

"Don't give yourself away Sehůn." Suhø smirks, looking at Sehun still passed out in the backseat of the car.

"Any word?" Suho asks, as Sehun walks back into the conference room. He hadn't been gone long but he looked different and Suho wasn't the only one to notice.

"He was not alive when I arrived." The man sitting In Sehun's spot murmured, attempting to look the same.

"That's it? No more emotion for a friend you lost?" Chen asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh." Sehůn says, adjusting in his seat. "I'm sad." He finishes, looking around for hopefully satisfied looks.

Before any of the men could say anything, the door burst open revealing another Sehun behind held at gunpoint by men who looked exactly like EXO.

"Sehůn. You tried." The man who looked like Suho said before signaling him back to the group.

EXO quickly stands up, guns drawn, Kai twirling his knife in his hands with a smile on his face, ready to fight.

"Who are you?" Suho asks.

"We are you." Suhø laughs. "The better version." He finishes, cocking his head to the side.

"What do you want with Sehun?" Chanyeol asks. 

"It's not this one we want." Baëkhyun smiles. 

"It's him." Kāi answers, pointing to Chen. 

"Why me?" Chen yells, thrusting his gun slightly, letting them know he wouldn't stay still. 

"We lost our Chën. We need a new one. Here you are." Chanyeøl says, cocking his head to the side. 

"He's not going anywhere." Suho spits. "Get the fuck out of our house, unless you all want to die." 

"We leave when we have what we came for." Suhø says. 

No one moves. No one says anything. Chen looks slightly panicked as if his brothers could be possibly considering giving him up. 

"Or you'll end up leaving in a body bag." Sehun snaps, throwing the man holding onto him over his shoulder, allowing a fight to break out. 

Each one of the doppelgangers went for their double, leaving EXO with the upper hand of having someone extra, Chen. 

Chen watched on as his brothers engaged in the brawl, each one taking more and more hits. As the fight continued to go on, it became harder for Chen to tell who was who, his brothers and the intruders began to all mesh together. They were too similar.

Was Chanyeol the one laying on the floor while Chanyeøl beat him to a pulp or the other way around? 

Was it Kāi who was dragging the knife against his brother's skin, or not? 

He wanted to help Sehun, but he couldn't tell if it was his Sehun who needed help. 

He couldn't risk hurting one of his family instead of the others. Chen panicked. He was only one person, how was he supposed to help his brothers, when they were all struggling to protect him too.

He pulled out his gun, firing a warning shot into the air for everyone to stop. He wasn't sure exactly what his plan was, but he needed to help somehow. 

"I'll go with you." Chen yells, causing everyone to turn to look at him. 

"No!" Suho yells, as the monstrous versions of themselves smiled a horrifying smile. 

Yixing rushes through the door with his twin standing beside him, holding a gun to his head. 

"He will go. If he wants his brothers to live." Ýixinģ cackles. 

Yixing is pushed towards his group as the others all take a hold of Chen, dragging him from the room as his brothers look on horrified, unablen to do anything for him. 

As the van peeled out of the driveway, Suho yelled for his men to follow it, but unfortunately for them it was out of sight before they even got out the front door.

Chen wasn't one to cry, really but in this situation he felt like it was alright. He didn't want to die, but he was willing to risk his life to save his brother's. 

After what felt like forever, the van came to a harsh stop and Chen was dragged out, thrown onto the hard concrete. 

"Get him on the bed." Someone snaps before he's picked up and tossed onto a hard mattress. 

The bag is ripped from his head, letting a bright light shine directly on his face, along with multiple faces leaning over him. 

"This will only hurt a little.." Suhø smiles as he sinks a needle into Chen's eye, while Chanyeøl covers his mouth with a rag to muffle his screaming.

EXO 'Obsession' theory part 2

• Let's analyze the EXODEUX Trailer (I'll point out clues and try to decipher them!)

We see the phases of the moon. In some way this represents how half side is bright and the other dark (that could mean that EXO has to endure the fight since both parts are their own):

Crudely we are given to understand that they have to remain in a state of balance to be the legends but RF has somehow disturbed this balance.

The trailer was released on 8 Nov '19. What if X-EXO came alive on the blood moon (total lunar eclipse)? The phenomenon had been observed sometime in Nov 1909, 1928, 2022. A solar eclipse is shown and then we see destruction. I'm confident that EXO regain powers from this as seen in Power, What is Love. And since X-EXO are their halves or smth they get powers too.

Exo Planet #4 - The EℓyXiOn vcr shows us how the exos were being chased by some unknown beings who had the same powers as them. Kai opened the portal doors and rescued them just in time. Now we know these beings were X-EXO.

Okay so first they show us what is the result of X-EXO's actions. We find that from 0:11 some member's dna turns black (at first I thought it faded and crumbled) and then Kāi is shown — it could be a hint that it's him who is corrupted as he also fades.

Then appears THE TREE OF LIFE?!! And a fire which renders it dry 😦(the mv seems to be set on exoplanet). We can see how the eye of the RF coveted the heart of the tree as was prophesied in MAMA intro.

Since we see Chanyeol's power directly harming it, I'm convinced what I discussed about him here might be true... Next we see a sandstorm and then booming thunder (Respective x-exo members shown in reverse order then)

I'm sure u must have noticed all this but from 0:32, something very interesting happens: a red drop is shown to separate from a source of water and it shines as it ascends. Suhø's shot is briefly interrupted by Baëkhyun - hmm.

Even in the photobooks, they have pics next to each other. This could mean that they're together in on smth. (Notice Suhø's hand on his throat, I'll discuss about this later in this post)

In the EXplOration Dot vcr, we find Baëkhyun looking at a screen. I'm pretty sure he is monitoring the other members. This leads to another theory of a binary between him and Suhø.

Back to EXODEUX, exo's powers prove to be very destructive since they've fallen into wrong hands. At 0:56 we see them facing a red celestial ball very much like our sun but creepy. Is this the eye of the RF? Another possibility is that it could be one of the two suns created as shown in Power intro because the legends separated into M & K. Once again we see Suhø and Baëkhyun facing each other:

We get a closer look at their eyes and all seem to have blue eyes:

Hold it! Chën has one blue eye and one dark brown!!! (he has red and white lashes too)

The conclusion I make from these clues is that jongdae has learnt how to regain that balance we talked about. So my earlier assumption as discussed in part i might not be correct and it is Chen who has won the fight. At first Chën looks confident but slowly as the game progresses, it is Chen who becomes more confident - he put his feet on the table.

• Let's analyze the mv now. The first fight shown is of Baek and his evil counterpart in a match of fencing. We see that the audience is dark hooded figures with red eyes:

One thing I noticed is that when Baekhyun is shown alone, there are white lights turned on and the stands for the audience are empty. But when Baëkhyun is alone, the lights are off and some red lights glow overhead (cctv cams?).

Baëkhyun looked like he hurt himself in the fight (some people theorize he wears a face-chain to cover his wound):

I would safely assume that nobody won or lost the match. This is because both are seen facing each other even in the final shot of this set.

• Moving on to Sehun; he tries to aim arrows at his evil double Sehůn. We see how many times he has tried but missed his target. There is a similar blue target behind Sehun too:

In EXODEUX we look closely at the aesthetic of X-EXO's eyes and all of them have dark makeup or scars - all but Sehůn! His eyes are clean and pure from the influence of the RF.

In the teaser poster below, Sehůn (case 94) is the only one on whom the target is not locked!

He is never seen with his double and is trying to fake it and trick the RF!! While the other X-EXO mems look sinister/appear expressive, Sehůn seems unbothered.

He is the only member who has concept pics with a blue background. Furthermore, his nails are almost clean and not like the other X-EXO ppl.

Sehun is also the only Exo member to appear in the EXODEUX Trailer at the end. All of this is too much of a coincidence and I believe he already fought his counterpart, won and has come to save EXO as we see in his mv remake (2014):

• Now let's talk about Suho's scenes. Suho is looking around in an art gallery full of pictures based on water and waves. He is suspended mid-air in the place but a new shot shows it is much more deeper than that both literally and figuratively: he is trapped underwater and his evil counterpart is the one trying to drown him.

Suhø is standing in water with 7 unknown hands reaching out to him - this could be a biblical reference to the seven deadly sins. Since the album was released in 2019, this is a nod to my fav group's 7th anniversary. Come to think of it he has red hair styled as devil's horns (junmyeon looks so perfect oml):

A lot of us noticed that in the beginning, he is shown trying to control the members as if they are puppets (yeah well I've watched this mv in slow-mo many times)

At 1:55 we notice a choking Suhø (junmyeon confirmed this) - the imagery is very creepy. This is because if Suho drowns, his double would choke too.

Sehun shoots arrows at his evil counterpart and gets hurt himself.

The recurrent theme is that whichever side - the good or the evil one tries to harm the other, both suffer the same fate. Why? because they are halves of each other as we discussed in the beginning of this post.

Getting back to the mv, the planets start to align as this happens.

This is just like the narration in MAMA intro: ...The day the grounds beget a singe file before one sky...

The teaser posters have this "Warning" on them:

Moving on, we find out how the X-EXO are nothing but agents and creation of the RF. Notice how the screen inside Suhø's head is very similar to the ones in and outside Chen's room.

•I'd like to talk about the red glowing marks on some of X-EXO ppl. Only Sehun's and Chanyeol's evil doubles do not glow. This could be another clue that Sehůn is good. The other X-EXO mems are corrupted. Instead Yeøl appears in inverted and oversaturated colors looking demonic.

• Another thing I noticed at around 3:06 of mv Jongdae and Suho sing this for the first time:

"The turned-on exit light" instead of "The turned-off exit light" as in chorus.

The ending shows a burning planet (initially I thought it was Earth but then I noticed it looked a bit different). SM confirmed it is "half of" exo Planet. Additionally it has a deep red glow ofc hinting this is because of the RF. There is still hope for exo to recover and defeat their enemies.

Jongdae's cold lip chain dragging against your skin - while Dae's kissing you - sending shivers all over your body and immensely adding to your arousal. His plump lips and wet tongue are already enough to get you panting, but with this lip chain he can get you tip over the edge very soon.

The chain is dragging along your neck and chest, tickling and teasing your nipples. His open mouthed kisses leave wet spots behind. He's going lower, kissing your stomach now, the chain is not so cold anymore but still cold enough to make you shiver out of pleasure. He dives lower and the chain slips between your legs. You spread them quickly and eagerly. It makes Jongdae leave a dark chuckle.

He puts his arms under your legs and is about to position his face infront of your heat. He goes down torturously slow so the chain drags over your clit.

You're already out of breath, about to go crazy. His face is finally in place and Dae blows a hot air against your wet folds. He's taking his time, he knows you're beyond frustrated by now. He slightly lifts his head up to look straight into your eyes with a smirk, before finally diving in.
