Rambling about Fairies - Manga Chapter 174

First of all, I love that Gajeel is the one making this call. I want more Gajeel acting like the oldest of the dragons slayers, as he is.

So, this scene implies a few things that we don't ever go into depth about in the story-- about mixing magics. Unison raids, basically, but we don't explore unison raids much either! Maybe there are consequences to recklessly fusing them, like going out of control, cancelling each other out, self-destructing, etc. And for Dragon Slayers, the most direct way of making a unison raid would be mixing breaths. I've gone down the list of how all their breaths differ, and that's why all of these are so facinating to mix. Gajeel and Natsu mixing makes molten steel shards. I wish we could've seen mixtures like Wendy and Laxus making a thunderstorm, or Wendy and Cobra making a poisonous epidemic. Would Natsu and Rogue mix to make invisible fires, like ethanol fire?

It would be a fun way to explore the limitations of this. For example, we never see the implications of opposing elements mixing. What if Sting and Rogue's unison raid would be revolutionary in magic history?

Just then, within the darkness of the hall, there seemed to be a touch of white flashing by. It was a curious appearance, and Xie Lian turned to look, but when he saw clearly what that touch of white was, the pupils underneath the mask shrank.

He snatched that thing and demanded, “What…What is this flower doing here?”

It was a fresh, tender, and weak little white flower, placed upon the left hand of that burnt black divine statue with missing limbs. The contrast made it appear particularly pure like snow, but also particularly bleak. It looked as if this divine statue had landed all those injuries in order to protect this little flower.

Xie Lian didn’t know why seeing this picture enraged him, and he shouted, “GHOST! COME OUT!”

Soon after, that black-clad warrior carrying a sabre appeared as expected. He hadn’t yet spoken before Xie Lian demanded, “What’s with this flower? Who did this? You did this?”

Wuming bowed his head slightly, and his gaze stopped for a moment on the flower that seemed to be crushed to suffocation in Xie Lian’s hand before finally, he said quietly, “It wasn’t me.”

“Then who could’ve done it??” Xie Lian exclaimed.

“Why does Your Highness become so irritated when seeing this flower?” Wuming asked.

Xie Lian’s face darkened, and he threw that flower onto the ground. “...A prank like this disgusts me.”

Wuming, however, said, “Why does Your Highness think it’s a prank? Perhaps, there truly are believers here who worship Your Highness.”

Forgive me if this has been asked before but with your ghost!AU how differently did cupheads encounter with the night terror go in CH194? Considering he's technically already dead?

Ok big spoilers for the Labyrinth first

It hasn’t been asked yet but I’ve already thought about it and had something fleshed out, but I’m gonna be honest I completely forgot what I had decided. (I have the bad habit of just talking about my AUs in discord with my friends but never recording anything) But I believe I have three ideas figured out that might work?

1. Night terror surprised him and didn’t give him the chance to phase/turn into a ghost to avoid getting hurt.

2. Like the Night terror can eat shadows I guess the same rule can apply to ghosts? Or maybe the Night Terror can touch ghosts or maybe just Cup’s soul? I dunno??

3. Idk? Salt??

I’m not sure which one is more viable but those are my thoughts. TWT

And yes, while I guess he’s technically dead he CAN get hurt and die. He just can’t really be injured when he’s a ghost because he can phase through objects. Unless if there is somethign magic involved in which case that is an exception. But if he’s injured in his normal form, he could very well die from the wound. But usually if he does get hurt enough to possibly kill him he’ll just turn into a ghost. It stops the bleeding (bc there is no blood) and buys himself some time. It doesn’t work permanently because eventually he’d have to turn back into his normal form at some point.

And yes he could have turned into a ghost AFTER the night terror ate his heart to avoid dying but I’m chalking it up to either, “he died before he could do that” or “shock” XD

favorite thing about them

My favorite quality of Doll is her kindness in spite of her complicity with the kidnapping of children, how she’s the softie of the group and genuinely cared for “Smile” despite barely knowing him. The ambiguity with Doll’s gender is interesting too.

least favorite thing about them

I can’t think of anything I particularly dislike about Doll, but I guess it would be the scene of her trying to rip off Our!Ciel’s shirt to bathe him despite his protests.

favorite line

My favorite line from Doll is when she tells Bravat to stop hesitating.

This line was one of the reasons I expected Doll to be Canopus and I love how it hints at the change in character of the vengeful BD!Doll who would have presumably regretted being soft to Our!Ciel from her kinder human self.

For bROTP, I guess Joker? I wish we could have seen more interactions between them but he really did mean a lot to her. There’s also the what could have been with Our!Ciel were it not for their circumstances.

I don’t ship Doll with anyone.

The only Doll pairing I’ve ever really seen people ship is with Our!Ciel and I wouldn’t really say I’m against it so I guess I don’t have a nOTP for her.

random headcanon

I really only have headcanons for Real!Ciel and maybe a couple other characters but for Doll, I guess that Doll might have gotten involved with kidnapping the children a bit later than the rest of the circus troupe because of her age and softer nature.

unpopular opinion

I don’t really know what the popular and unpopular opinions about Doll are but in regards to Doll’s actions as a bizarre doll in the current arc, I think it would be best to wait and get a better idea of how the bizarre doll state works before judging her (since it’s not entirely clear how much agency she has).

I love how Doll’s ability to walk on the tightrope is used to represent the tense gap between life and death of the bizarre doll state and how this cover parallels Real!Ciel’s chapter cover with Undertaker from Ch64.

anyway on with the show

Officially AU from 184, and of course, some events have been shuffled around so I could shoehorn them in (detailed notes at the bottom).

Mostly Tanjirō-centric with some Muzan sprinkled in every so often. Occasional Demon Slayer(s) POV; I’mma be real with you, they can probably be skipped if you don’t give a shit about the DS goons.

First arc’s song: Valky — Any Time

Astral projection: I am a very literal/gullible reader and I accept everything I read at face value, so there might be other people like me, heh. When Muzan talks about tethers, paths, lines, astral projection, etc, he is not literally doing any of that. It’s just visuals to help him (and readers) logic his way around as he uses his telepathy to bad-touch Tanjirō’s brain.

Notes regarding going AU from CH. 184:

Deaths: Nearly everyone should have survived, albeit with varying amounts of serious and non-serious injuries. I just can’t handle the death(s) of major characters ;w; Shinobu does NOT live (I wish I could have her live, ‘cos I hecking love her, but her death was a little too hard to come back from haha. I could think of a few scenarios where she manages to scrape by, but she ultimately doesn’t add anything to the plot so I have chosen to let her death have meaning). Oh, yeah, and Tamayo is officially dead but I mean… she died this chapter.

Sequence of events (in canon): I believe Yushirō’s cat delivering the remaining Tamayo drugs, her explanation of them, and Muzan searching through her cells to find the answer, all happen around CH. 191-ish. Since I couldn’t quite clearly tell if Muzan had drugs 1-3 inside of him already and needed 4, or if he only had 1-2 inside of him and needed 3-4 from the demon cat, I decided to have him be afflicted by all four when he was first initially poisoned, and then he learns everything about them from searching Tamayo’s cells while in the forest. While some side effects do remain from a plot standpoint, I don’t think the nuances of this particular scenario will affect my plot overall. Muzan will still definitely suffer side effects as a result of these poisons, but not to their full extent. [FUTURE HILDA HERE: pretty sure I misremembered and the cat actually injected healy-boopies into the good kids, but it still doesn't matter XD]

[Humanification] Well, he obviously doesn’t become human, and he canonically neutralizes it on his own so that’s out. Added bonus: he now knows how to reverse-reverse engineer what Tamayo did, meaning he could probably humanify anyone he wants? Because that’s something Muzan would do?

[Rapid Ageing] Yep, Muzan is now a 10,000 year old vampire loli daddy. The explanation takes place later after CH184, so therefore he wouldn’t have been 10,000 until that point, but that nuance is too much for my poor brain to figure out. Sure, I could use cues from the time announcements to figure out his proper age but…

[Cannot split apart] Well, he better not get caught like that ever again in the future kek

[Cell destruction at weak points inflicted by Yoriichi] This should still affect Muzan as well, but there isn’t really anyone available with the knowledge to take advantage of this weakness. Yushirō would know and would have told the other Slayers, but Tanjirō wouldn’t know, as this knowledge becomes known in like CH194-ish. Since Muzan knows about the drugs’ effects and/or is more careful, he will likely synthesize a ‘cure’ for the drugs in due time. As of now, his body is simply regenerating the damage. So I suppose he would treat them as permanent handicaps to his ‘energy reservoirs.’ In essence, his battle power has decreased (as he has stated in the manga). For the purpose of the fic, I would say his body has ‘naturally’ fought off the second stage of the drug and is attempting to autonomously decompose the third and then fourth stage. Muzan even considered dedicating his mental capacities to dealing with it, but obviously didn’t because he judged it to not be worth his effort and is fully confident his superior god-like body will take care of it—and if it doesn’t, I mean, he has all the time in the world (again) to deal with it later. Plus, like, he needs a lab and he’s currently shacking up with Tanjirō in a hole he dug up.

THE FOREST AND CAVE: I had to flip back and forth through so many chapters to make sure I wasn’t having a fever dream. (In the manga). There is a scene where Nezuko runs through a field of rice paddies towards the city, and in the distance are some spare forests and mountains. So… [roughly applies artistic license juice into your eyes] for my nefarious purposes, it is now a dense forest with a lot of random caves.

This scene is even cooler when we get told the dragons were inside them the whole time.

Honestly, I feel Fairy Tail is really damn strong among shounen for the true 'working together to defeat the enemy' type fights. Most shounen leave it all up to the main character-- yeah, even Fairy Tail does that a lot-- but when Fairy Tail has everyone work together, everyone is truly working together. Everyone is essential in the battle to earn our victory, no matter how big or small the contribution is.

It truly makes some fights feel like an intensive group effort, and that's so satisfying.

Ch194 (p5), Disappearance of Noah's Ark Circus

Well, Doll seems to be more staff than student, but it doesn't particularly matter, since she's the bizarre doll that the Corgis have been selected for. She has full run of the place and seems to help keep the kids focused on their expected tasks. (Poor Nick 😢)

Finny is more uncomfortable seeing this room that Doll has taken them to for tea. I just know Finny and Snake have either been here before, or this place is modeled after a place they've both been to....

But now it's time to get down to Finny and Snake's business... and Snake's personal quest.

As Finny gets more and more unsettled by the place and their conversation regarding Noah's Ark Circus, Snake seems to be putting two and two together. Having worked at Phantomhive Manor for a while, and having travelled with/for our earl on a few assignments, he's probably starting to realize that our earl and Sebastian likely got rid of those circus troupe members.

It seems she was never told by Undertaker (or anyone else) what actually happened to them. So far, she hasn't even said that "Smile" was really the Phantomhive kid they were supposed to capture and take to "Father". Then again, that would require her to admit they had been kidnapping kids and had been ordered to target "Ciel" Phantomhive. So, she might not know that Joker and Baron Kelvin died inside Kelvin's manor or that the others were killed by Finny, Mey-Rin, Baldo, and Tanaka. As far as she can tell, she was being left behind by the others.

They simply "disappeared", and she lost everything she had known and essentially everyone she had loved.

I want to see if she remembers what our earl said at the end and what Sebastian did to her... or did Undertaker snip that part out of her cinematic records? If so, that would explain why she recalls "Finnian" who became "Smile"... but doesn't seem to mind being in league with real Ciel.
