Kinda mad about the fact that despite allllll the stories that have gone into Tsumugi moving on from Eichi, the second he shows up it’s immediately undone and Tsumugi is whipped and viewing him with rose tinted glasses and everything again. And I’m glad that Eichi *is* getting better at being around Tsumugi without all the self-hatred that he’s previously had, but the way it’s SUDDENLY switched from still being a tsundere in the Mugi Switch event to being all overly friendly in this story feels weird? Idk, I really enjoy eimugi content, but as exes and toxically because the whole point was that they were NOT right for each other y’know? YSEALI Seeds: Dassatek – Awakening Young Farmer

About the Project

Dassatek empowers rural Cambodian youths to have decent work and sustained economic growth through three programs:

Youth Develop Youth Program (YDYP) provides capacity building training for personal development, agribusiness, and money management.

Agroecology Youth Program (AYP) provides a vegetable garden apprenticeship and seed grants for garden projects.

Young Agripreneur Program (YAP) assists small-scale vegetable farmers to transform themselves into small-scale vegetable farming businesses.

Dassatek's programs aim to help rural Cambodian youths reach their full potential, regenerate natural ecosystems, and contribute to the country's economic development.

Why do you care about this specific topic/issue?

Food is our most basic need, yet we lack youth participation in agriculture. This is because agriculture does not meet the needs of young people for personal development and sustained economic growth. Additionally, agriculture is a major driver of environmental degradation, including deforestation, biodiversity loss, topsoil loss, water pollution, and climate change.

However, farmers are modern-day earth warriors. With the right farming practices and food system, we can regenerate our natural resources, restore balance to our natural ecosystem and tackle climate change. Together, we can awaken to the importance of farming and living in harmony with nature.

Why did you decide to start this project?

I applied for YSEALI Seeds twice in 2021 and 2022. I was not selected back in 2021. Having worked directly with youths and farmers in an agricultural cooperative in Kampong Cham province, Cambodia, for a whole year, I got more experience and understanding of the needs and problems of youths and farmers. It gave me more confidence and allowed me to improve my application to apply again.

What are your goals for this project?

Overall Goal: To create a sustainable business that provides safe and organic vegetables to households and restaurants in Cambodia, while also providing training and support to rural youths and small-scale vegetable farmers.

Specific Objectives:

In 2023, recruit 6 core youths from 4 provinces, support them to create 5 vegetable gardens and coordinate them to form a youth hub.

In 2024, transform the project into a business startup that collectively produces and supplies safe or organic vegetables directly to households and restaurants in the capital city and locally.

In 2027, evolve the business to provide incubation and acceleration services to assist small-scale vegetable farmers and agricultural cooperatives in Cambodia to start-up and operate vegetable farming businesses.

How will YSEALI Seeds help you achieve your goals?

YSEALI Seeds has given us the resources to implement the idea I proposed. Through this grant, I got to spread our mission and action plan to broader audiences which has allowed our project to attract potential youths with the same mission. With this funding, we have been able to implement our mission-driven activities and make a prototype business model to launch the second phase of our project next year, transforming our project into a business startup that collectively produces and supplies safe or organic vegetables directly to households and restaurants in the capital city and locally.

What have you accomplished and implemented so far?

We have:

Recruited 7 core youths from diverse backgrounds in 4 provinces with 5 sites for them to turn into diversified vegetable gardens.

Officially launched our project with representatives from the government, the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, private and public sector, and a news agency.

Finished our 3-day training on personal development, “agripreneurship”, and basic money management in Phnom Penh.

Been featured by two different news agencies.

Established 9 key partnerships.

Been selected to present our project in the Young Challenger Experience in Berlin, Germany, in November 2023.

What are the most significant lessons learned you've experienced so far?

Putting together a solid team is a great challenge especially in the beginning of the project. Don’t lose faith. Adhere to the vision, mission cause, and value. You will then attract the right team members. When that happens, it doesn’t mean they are going to be in with the project 100% and forever. Give them time, space, and freedom to explore, and to understand the project deeper, and decide for themselves.

What are the success stories you can share with others who would like to do the same type of activity and/or project like yours?

It’s a success for us when we helped some of the core youths to travel out of their village to the capital city for the first time. It’s a success for us when we see our core youths from rural areas get excited to meet other youths from other provinces or the capital city. It’s a success for us when they still want to join our program with the intention to grow despite some apprehension from some of their families. It’s a success for us when some of our youths told us that they have entrusted their children’s future and development to us despite the fact that they have just met each other. It’s a success for us to discover farmers who genuinely see the value of their work and truly support their children to work in agribusiness.

Interview with Cham

We had the pleasure of interviewing Cham over Zoom video!  Having amassed success spanning over three decades for his pioneering milestones and culturally-shaping achievements in the space of Dancehall, Reggae, Hip Hop, and more, Cham (p.k.a Baby Cham) has crafted an undisputable legacy that remains peerless to the greatest in class. Today the multi Grammy Award-nominated, internationally acclaimed artist unleashes the highly anticipated visual to his fiery single “Lock Down.” Lock Down takes on its masterful flare from the Clockwork Riddim, which is produced by eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt. Bolt, in a few short years, has shown that there is nothing off the table for him, and that success follows in every endeavor as long as passion is upheld.   WATCH “LOCK DOWN” HERE   “Lock Down” find the dancehall legend in his element, spitting fiery, conscious-rooted lyrics over iconic bass-knocking beats made to uplift and rejoice. ABOUT CHAM   The rich, bass-laced, fast-paced world of dancehall music means only the best of the best survive. Not many can go through a name change and still remain relevant. Many would say that even less can manage to take a break, tour the world and return to the scene to command an audience like never before.   Clearly, you’ve never met the Grammy-nominated dancehall-superstar that is Cham.   Having started in the music business by watching artists like John Wayne and Super Cat rehearse on his uncle’s Waterhouse-based sound system, Studio Mix, Cham doesn’t look at his musical career as a ‘job’. He has all right to, though. With his unmistakable voice and remarkable stage presence, Cham has made his name in dancehall all over the world.    He first emerged on the dancehall kaleidoscope in the mid-1990s, making tracks on various juggling riddims including the immortal Showtime Riddim which spawned his hit Galang Gal. Then, in 2000, under the moniker Baby Cham, gave the world his debut album Wow: The Story, and hits such as Many Many, Boom Tune, Man & Man and more. The formula of Cham’s deep baritone voice and rustic, lyrically lethal tracks made sure that he would stake his claim in the annals of music history.   While musical naysayers continued yapping about the limited potential of dancehall, Cham’s crossover hit Vitamin Sstruck a nerve… with the world. The song was perfect. Vitamin S racked up uncountable hours on disc jock turntables around the world, and led the artiste, whose real name is Damian Beckett, to a deal with Atlantic Records, where he joined fellow Jamaican Sean Paul and American rap stars like Lil’ Kim and Fat Joe.    His loyalty to Jamaica and Jamaica’s culture never faded, and his goal was always to bring dancehall music to international ears. In fact, Cham can be quoted as saying, many years ago, that he wants Madhouse Productions to be an international household name.   It came as no surprise when Cham and Madhouse worked together to produce Ghetto Story, his biggest hit to date. The song hit at the end of 2005, and again, Cham took over the world. The song was a narrative of the rough and rugged life Cham overcame to become the man he is today, through the thick and thin of some of Jamaica’s toughest garrison communities and streets.    Having put the song into perspective and silencing all naysayers yet again, Cham went a step further and attracted none other than Alicia Keys to remix the now worldwide hit single. The world waited on bated breath for the release of Ghetto Story’s official video, and again the world watched in awe as Cham sent dancehall music to new heights, shattering glass ceilings on the way to the top.   But that wasn’t the first time Cham’s unmistakable style and voice ended up on a track with an international artist. His list of collaborations includes Foxy Brown, M.I.A., Nina Sky, Mario and more. But for Cham, it’s not about the accolades and the egos.    Having amassed many more international smash singles over the year such as the high-tempo, club-rocking hits Wine, That Way and Tun Up, Back Way and more places Cham’s versatility as an artist on display for the world to see across an array of generations.  We want to hear from you! BANGI, 15 Zulkaedah 1438H, Selasa – Persatuan Cina Muslim (MACMA) Kelantan berharap mereka yang baharu memeluk Islam tidak dipaksa menggunakan ‘bin’ atau ‘binti’ Abdullah.

Pengerusinya, Johari Yap berkata, selain untuk memelihara nasab, pengekalan nama asal Cina Muslim penting kerana ia melambangkan nama generasi dan diri sendiri.

Namun, katanya, Cina Muslim boleh menggunakan nama Arab yang mempunyai makna baik, sambil mengekalkan nama asal sepenuhnya.

“Bagi mereka yang bukan Cina, mereka juga sebenarnya boleh di’bin’ atau di’binti’kan dengan bapa mereka sendiri. Sebagai contoh, Husna binti Balasundram, Muhammad bin Cham Roen, atau Mimi binti Edmond.

“Tidak perlu menggunakan bin/binti Abdullah. Kenapa harus dinasabkan kepada Abdullah sedangkan masing-masing tahu nama bapa sendiri?,” katanya.

Johari turut menceritakan beberapa rakannya yang mana seluruh keluarga memeluk Islam.

“Pada mulanya hanya suami yang memeluk Islam. Beliau menggunakan nama Ah Chong bin Abdullah. Selepas beberapa bulan memujuk isterinya, akhirnya isteri beliau juga turut memeluk Islam dan menggunakan nama Amoi binti Abdullah.

“Oleh kerana mereka menunjukkan akhlak yang sangat baik selepas memeluk Islam, akhirnya ibu Ah Chong turut mengucap dua kalimah syahadah dan menggunakan nama Ah Ma binti Abdullah dan diikuti suami beliau, Ah Kong bin Abdullah. Anak saudara Ah Chong juga tertarik dengan Islam dan nama beliau kini Ah Tan bin Abdullah.

“Sekarang Ah Chong mempunyai keluarga anak Abdullah yang cukup besar. Tidakkah ini juga akan mengelirukan?,” katanya menulis dalam Sinar Harian, hari ini.

Beliau yang turut menyentuh mengenai penggunaan istilah ‘mencinakan’ Islam berkata, salah satu faktor yang menyebabkan persepsi masuk Islam sebagai masuk Melayu masih tebal dalam kalangan bukan Islam, adalah kerana kebanyakan mereka yang memeluk Islam terus meninggalkan budaya lama, walaupun tidak bercanggah dengan syariat.

“Seolah-olah budaya asal tidak Islamik langsung. Atas sebab inilah gerakan Cina Muslim menggalakkan masyarakat Cina yang memeluk Islam untuk mengekalkan identiti kecinaan mereka bagi membetulkan tanggapan ini. Mereka disarankan mengekalkan identiti, jadi tidak timbul atau wujud istilah ‘mencinakan’ mereka kerana mereka sememangnya Cina.

“Sesungguhnya memeluk agama Islam tidak sedikit pun mengurangkan ‘kecinaan’ seseorang sebagaimana mengekalkan ‘kecinaan’ tidak mengurangkan keislamannya,” katanya.
