HERMANO FALTZ, PEDRO FAÇANHA e CHAMBER JAZZ. . 18h30 - Abrindo o Letras & Músicas de 2019, neste sábado 12/01, Hermano Faltz, Pedro Façanha e Chamber Jazz, apresentam a proposta experimental que visa unir o colorido especial de um quarteto de cordas que se caracteriza pela sonoridade camerística da música erudita com o inusitado duo jazzístico de contrabaixo e guitarra eu priorizam elementos de composições simultâneas, swing, dobramentos e flexões das linhas de melodia e solo. . O objetivo é fazer experiências ricas em influências da música erudita europeia e do jazz do norte americano através da junção desses universos musicais distintos, resultando numa sonoridade que apresenta melodias, ritmos e timbres que se desvinculam de suas condições naturais pré-existentes e conversam com o imaginário do público. . Os arranjos foram desenvolvidos pelo contrabaixista Pedro Façanha com o intuito de fundir as sonoridades do quarteto de cordas da música de câmara com o jazz, se utilizando desses elementos primordiais, adicionando ainda o contrabaixo acústico e a guitarra. O repertório foi selecionado pelos dois músicos buscando contemplar os grandes nomes do jazz, tanto os mais destacados quanto aqueles de menor repercussão e não menos importantes, mostrando os diferentes meios de expressão musical como: melodia, polifonia e harmonia existentes no estilo. A while ago trumpeter Noel Langley gave me his album ‘Edentide’. This album has lived in my car for weeks now - I must add - my car is my listening sanctuary (for right or wrong). I want to encourage you to listen to his album as I think it is a master’s work, hence master piece. It is beautiful, imaginative, hugely creative and probably a whole bunch more of positives adjectives that a seasoned album review person would naturally shy away from, perhaps deemed to be to clichéd, buy I do mean them sincerely. Forgive my crude reference points - however I often find references a good source of measuring and calibration tool - listening to it I hear composers like Philip Glass, Richard Strauss, Michael Nyman, Lalo Schifrin, the sound of ECM and Kenny Wheeler - both as composer and performer and ‘European Jazz’ as a whole. Even more specifically, for example, in the tune ‘For the Uncommon Man’ - my mind temporarily establishes a link to Deodato’s version of Richard Strauss’ ‘Also sprach Zarathustrah’ - however, like all tunes on the album it takes on its own character rather than being a derivative of any kind. The same with ‘Sven’s Island’ - one of the piano figures take me to ‘Ice Pick Mike’ by Lalo Schifrin, ‘Glass’ (the 3/4 section) takes me to Terry Gilliam’s ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’ and so it goes on, all whilst being fascinated by Noel’s lush and soulful sounds as well as his stellar ensemble’s creations. Noel’s album has been a trusty companion on my actual car journeys as well as the journey’s of mind fueled by the prowess of Noel’s stellar musicianship and imagination.
