I like to make connections between the universes that are on my radar at the moment and evaluate how similar or different certain characters are within their own contexts. It helps me not to focus on just one thing for too long and I like to see how much I can understand a character using other templates for comparison.
Lately I've been thinking a lot about the narrative comparison between Wato and Wakamiya regarding the loss of their respective Sherlocks, especially considering that Wato would be the Watson whose Holmes never came back and how that affects her character as a whole.
Or how I can draw a comparison of melancholy between Wato and Mishima with both sharing the loss of someone loved through their own fault, but on opposite poles. Wato was used and manipulated to carry out the actions that caused her to lose Sherlock while Mishima used and manipulated others in furtherance of the actions that caused him to lose Ryuzaki. How can two people with such similar pains, but with such different developments relate? And considering that neither Sherlock nor Ryuzaki will return in the end, is the development prior to tragedy really worth anything other than haunting them? Would the dichotomy be even worse if Sherlock and Ryuzaki somehow ended up getting back from death?
Or how Joowon didn't technically lose anyone, Dongsik is alive and well as is possible for people who have gone through the trials they've faced, but somehow he still feels like he's lost the man. As if a Dongsik well would be the same as a dead Dongsik to him, because outside of the chaos of their partnership, Joowon feels that there is no room for him in Dongsik's life. That he shouldn't claim that space. Very close to how I imagine Mishima would feel if Ryuzaki ultimately survived. Or Wato, depending on how Sherlock managed to elude death. Or Wakamiya, stuck with the idea that he is replaceable for Shishio and unable to forgive him for being left behind again, for allowing himself to hope only to mean nothing.
I can also draw parallels to how no matter what happens, affection drives both Dongsik and Ryuzaki to find a way to make their respective partners understand that they don't have to claim anything, that whatever they want is theirs without the need for a request. That both Ryuzaki and Sherlock would be able to die as many times as necessary to save the ones they love. How Sherlock and Shishio share that basic feature of the Holmes-Watson relationship of always doing everything possible to keep their Watson safe, even if sometimes things don't go as well as planned.
I can stay here forever and add more relationships if you let me.

Pandora no Kajitsu: Kagaku Hanzai Sousa File
Tumblr media
Kohiruimaki Yuichi is a police officer who established the "Science Crime Countermeasures Office", a department that specializes in issues related to cutting-edge science and technology. He welcomes the genius scientist Mogami Yukiko as an advisor and she is in charge of investigating cases related to cutting-edge science. The crimes entrusted to the Science Crime Countermeasures Office are crimes that the legal system and police organization cannot keep up with. The two will unravel the science itself hidden behind the cases and not just the so-called forensic investigation. Hasebe Tsutomu is a detective who is not familiar with science but has a long experience in the field in the former Investigation Division.
___________________________________________________________
Dean Fujioka plays the character Kohiruimaki Yuichi in this show.
If you’re a fan of all Sherlock Holmes movies, TV shows, comics like me then you’ll recognize this actor instantly. If not let me tell you who he has portrayed before. You guessed it : Homare Shishio in Sherlock: The untold stories from 2019. Homare Shishio is basically Sherlock Holmes and Iwata Takanori plays Wakamiya Junichi a version of John Watson.

What I’m getting at here?
Pandora no Kajitsu: Kagaku Hanzai Sousa File has so far 2 episodes, third is on the way, there’s a Pandora no Kajitsu: Kagaku Hanzai Sousa File part II in the making or is finished filming.
The show has basically Sherlock Holmes vibes. The moment you see it you can’t shake it. Trust me Pandora no Kajitsu: Kagaku Hanzai Sousa File is worth your time. Oh and if you haven’t watched Sherlock: The Untold Stories - watch it, also worth your time.

You know what's interesting? That Iwata Takanori (Cobra) & Kubota Masataka (Smoky) starred together in the High & Low drama - and then they both got cast as Watsons. Iwata in Sherlock: The Untold Stories and Kubota in Clinical Criminologist Hideo Himura's Inference. And their Watsons couldn't be more different.
Kubota's Arisugawa Arisu was the sane one, the grounded one, he was the one keeping Himura from going bonkers and offing people because, let's face it, Himura was definitely not sane.
Iwata's Wakamiya Junichi, on the other hand, was the one with the issues in his drama and his Sherlock, Homare Shishio, was the one with all his faculties and a very healthy sense of self, which in itself was an interesting characterization of Holmes.
Arisu was taking care of Himura whereas Shishio was watching over Wakamiya-chan. Arisu and Himura were classmates whereas Shishio was almost 10 years older than Wakamiya and those facts influenced the characters majorly. So fascinating!

I'm really loving Sherlock: The Untold Stories because of "Holmes'" and "Watson's" personalities.
Sure, Homare Shishio still does have a flair for the dramatic but he's simply a little eccentric, is all. No temper tantrums, no disrespect for people in general, he's just amused by their stupidity. Wakamiya Junichi, on the other hand, strongly reminds me of a cat, hissing at everyone in the vicinity, preemptively.
These two have a rather interesting dynamic. I think it's because Dean Fujioka who plays Shishio is 8 years older than Iwata Takanori who plays Junichi? And it shows in the portrayal of their characters? Because Holmes seems much more patient and calm here whereas Watson feels like the tsundere of this drama.
Also, it's interesting that, being on ep 3, all the bad guys so far were women. In every ep the killer turned out to be a woman.
Another interesting thing? Before Shishio forcefully moved into Junichi's flat - quite a funny scene! - he made sure that there was no trace of a woman there and Inspector Eto mentioned that Shishio hated women. He doesn't disrespect them, he just... doesn't give a damn about them, is all. The whole thing is a bit... head-tilting.
Tiny things that I love? That Junichi seems to be a very good cook. And how angry he is that the inspector keeps waltzing into his flat - and eating his food. And also - his diary, the one that he dictates. I wonder if that will play some part in the future...
