As you might be aware, there is a gigantic list of categories for The Emmys, which has made the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences split up the ceremony into two separate weekends, the first of which is deemed the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. That covers the technical and smaller categories including short form, cinematography, and production design.
This year, Hannah Gadsby rightfully garners an Emmy for her writing on Nanette, Russian Doll and Marvelous Ms. Maisel nabbed many technical awards for their beautifully imagined universes, Fleabag was honored for its spot on casting, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend appropriately got honors for original music and choreography, The Simpsons still has staying power after all these years, and James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke has won the hearts and minds of America.
Also, Megan Amram is still without an Emmy for her An Emmy for Megan web series, which is a huge snub. Also, perhaps, it might be a way to force her to renew her own digital short form series, but she needs to, when all is said and done, win one for her genius satire that points an absurdist mirror at the entertainment biz.

MOD Pizza Appoints Mark Shambura as Chief Marketing Officer
Industry veteran brings experience growing brand awareness and building customer loyalty
Mark Shambura
Seattle, WA (RestaurantNews.com) MOD Super Fast Pizza Holdings, LLC (“MOD Pizza”, “MOD” or the “Company”), today announced the appointment of Mark Shambura as its chief marketing officer (“CMO”). Shambura will lead the Company’s overall brand and marketing strategy for its 400+ system-wide* locations across the US and UK, with a focus on building awareness of the MOD brand while deepening MOD’s relationship with its customers.
Shambura joins MOD after five years with Chipotle Mexican Grill, where he was executive director of marketing, overseeing most of the key marketing functions supporting Chipotle’s 2,400+ restaurants. Originally hired to create and manage Chipotle’s first brand team, his responsibilities expanded to include overall brand strategy, advertising, digital, social, events/sponsorships, promotions and field marketing. In 2016, Shambura served as interim head of marketing for Chipotle, overseeing global efforts for the organization’s full portfolio of concepts.
Prior to Chipotle, Shambura spent eight years at Creative Artists Agency where he helped launch Chipotle’s award-winning “Back to the Start” campaign, hailed by Advertising Age as one of the “Top Campaigns of the Century” as well as developing marketing strategies for Starbucks, Coca-Cola and eBay. Shambura also served as head of brand marketing, senior director at One Kings Lane, the home décor e-commerce platform.
“Mark is an intuitive and collaborative leader with deep expertise in complex national and local marketing operations. He will add tremendous value to MOD’s executive team at a critical stage in our growth as we extend our leadership in the fast casual pizza category and double-down on our commitment to making a positive social impact. During his time with Chipotle – one of the most iconic brands in the fast casual space – Mark helped shepherd their marketing function through periods of both sustained growth and transition,” said Scott Svenson, co-founder and CEO of MOD. “His experience and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to build our brand, deepen our connections in the markets we serve, and drive awareness of MOD’s purpose beyond pizza.”
Added Shambura, “MOD’s special culture and purpose is truly unique in our industry. I’m thrilled to join a team that is not only dedicated to growing a world class brand, but that is also deeply committed to being a force for good. It’s rare to find a company where these values complement each other, and I look forward to contributing to MOD’s continued success as a leading people-first brand.”
Shambura has relocated from New York City to the Greater Seattle area with his family and is based at MOD’s Bellevue, Washington Support Center.

Botanica
Tentoonstelling - Botanica
Drawing Centre Diepenheim
19 maart - 4 juni 2017
Curator: Nanette Kraaikamp

24in48 Winter 2017 Readathon Recap
It's not 12:30am and the 24in48 Readathon is finished. I fell half an hour short of the 24 hours, but had a blast, won a prize, and read four great books in the process (well, two great, one pretty good and one okay). Book 1: The Corpse in Oozak's Pond by Charlotte MacLeod -- Not my favorite in the Peter Shandy series (likely because there wasn't enough Svenson for me), but not a bad read. This installment revolves heavily around the Buggins family, murder, and a lawsuit over the pond that the college uses for their utilities. Shandy is his same ol' snarky brilliant self and Chief Ottermole is along for a great deal of the investigation. Of course, he is the police chief so that makes sense ... but he's just not nearly as much fun as some of the other sidekicks have been. Lots of twists and turns and old family secrets kept things interesting, but I still missed my viking President. *also fits in with my Cloak & Dagger Challenge Book 2: The Vintage Cinema Club by Jane Linfoot -- This was a light UK-based chick lit which I almost always love, but not at all what I was expecting. I guess it's my own fault for picking it up because of the adorable cover and Linfoot being an author that I've previously enjoyed. I enjoyed this, as well, but not as much as I had hoped. Silly me, I was expecting the Vintage Cinema Club to be based around old movies in some way! I also hoped to have the three "main" characters (Izzy, Luce and Dida) to have actually all been main characters rather than one main character and two afterthoughts. I kept reading through hoping for more on the other two and got very little. *The "V" for Alphabet Soup Book 3: If Fried Chicken Could Fly by Paige Shelton -- I originally grabbed this because I needed an "I" for the Alphabet Soup challenge and thought "Hmmm ... a cozy about a cooking school? Sounds okay. Sure!" It's so much better than okay, though -- there are GHOSTS!!! Of course, in my mind this instantly takes it from "okay" to "fantabulous." The only thing better would have been if they had been pirate ghosts instead of cowboys, but this is set in Missouri so pirates wouldn't be too prevalent. (There is, however, a funny bit about dubloons between the main character and her best friend so that sort of makes up for it!) Absolutely loved this book and I look forward to visiting Broken Rope again soon. (I've already checked and my library has the whole series!) *The "I" for Alphabet Soup and fits the Cloak & Dagger Challenge Book 4: Sorcery & Cecelia or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot by Patricia C Wrede and Caroline Stevermer -- I had wanted to read this when I was in middle school and it was first released but my father heard someone say something about it that made it forbidden. I had completely forgotten about it until OpenRoad was doing a giveaway on Twitter and it was one of the options. Nothing (and no one) to hold me back now! Such an interesting read! Heavily inspired by Jane Austen (therefore fitting into my Year of Jane) and magic, each chapter is a letter written from one cousin (Cecelia) to the other (Kate), with the authors each taking one of the cousins to write as. There's magic, mystery, humor, romance ... and I highly recommend it. *The "W" for my A to Z Authors, also fits The Year of Jane in a roundabout "inspired" way http://dlvr.it/N9y0H2

MOD Pizza Debuts Winter Menu Offerings
Aretha Pizza, Roasted Brussels Sprouts Salad, and Oreo® Cookie Milkshake Launches in All Locations
Seattle, WA (RestaurantNews.com) MOD Super Fast Pizza Holdings, LLC (“MOD Pizza”, “MOD” or the “Company”) today announced the rollout of its new seasonal menu items – the Aretha Pizza, the Roasted Brussels Sprouts Salad, and the Oreo® Cookie Milkshake. The new items will be available at all MOD locations across the U.S. through April 22, 2019.
The Aretha Pizza packs a powerful punch, mixing together a blend of sweet and spice. The red sauce base is topped with spicy pepperoni, fresh arugula, jalapenos, shredded mozzarella and grated parmesan. Once cooked, the pizza is finished with a drizzle of Mike’s Hot Honey® – a chili pepper-infused wildflower honey – adding just the right amount of sweet heat. Back by popular demand, Mike’s Hot Honey, which can be added as a finishing sauce on any pizza, is now a permanent menu item at all MOD locations.
The Roasted Brussels Sprouts Salad perfectly balances the rustic flavors of winter. House-roasted Brussels sprouts and mixed greens are combined with roasted garlic, grated parmesan and croutons – tossed with MOD’s zingy and seasonal lemon herb vinaigrette dressing.
The crowd pleasing, Oreo® Cookie Milkshake rounds out the winter offerings – a creamy vanilla shake blended with real Oreo® pieces.

MOD Pizza and Franchisees Raise over $400,000 to Feed Hungry Kids
Company aims to help create one million meals across the US in 2019
Seattle, WA (RestaurantNews.com) MOD Super Fast Pizza Holdings, LLC (“MOD Pizza”, “MOD” or the “Company”) and its franchisees today announced that its annual Spreading MODness Week raised over $400,000 to help feed hungry kids. MOD will donate $1 from every pizza it sold from November 20-24, with the ambitious goal of creating one million meals over the next 12 months that will be distributed in local communities.
Generosity Feeds, a non-profit committed to ending childhood hunger, will receive approximately $380,000 of the donation to help fund more than 30 meal-packing events across the country. Generosity Feeds and MOD will bring together communities to pack nutritious and compact meals which are designed to be distributed by school backpack programs and food banks. To date, MOD’s collaboration with Generosity Feeds has already provided nearly half a million meals across the US. See a MOD Generosity Feeds event in action: Meal Packing Event
The remaining donation will be provided to community food banks and feeding programs who will also support MOD’s mission to change the startling statistics around childhood hunger – as 1 in 5 children in the US struggle with food insecurity.
“Our annual Spreading MODness Week is a time to shine a light on MOD’s purpose – we exist to serve people and we work to positively impact as many as possible. Once again, we’re filled with gratitude for our customers and amazing MOD Squads who came together to help tackle food insecurity in a meaningful way,” said Ally Svenson, MOD’s co-founder and Chief Purpose Officer. “It is so heartwarming and encouraging to see MOD’s purpose come to life using our platform of pizza to make a positive social impact – this is Spreading MODness in action.”

As MOD’s new COO, Maguire will lead the company’s store operations across 380+ locations, with a strong focus on all phases of expansion and growth. He will be based in MOD’s headquarters outside of Seattle, reporting directly to Paul Twohig, MOD’s President (Twohig was previously President and COO). Twohig will continue to lead store development (domestic and international real estate, design and construction), culinary, supply chain, and international and franchise operations.
Maguire was previously President and Chief Executive Officer of FIC Restaurants Inc. (Friendly’s restaurants), a position he held since 2012. In 2016, he subsequently took on the role of President and Chief Executive Officer of Johnny Rockets Group in addition to his position with FIC. Across both private-equity-owned companies, Maguire led global operations, franchising and store development for a combined 625 locations with total annual sales exceeding $800M.
Prior to his time with Friendly’s and Johnny Rockets, Maguire spent 20 years at Panera Bread, in numerous retail operations roles, the last six of which were spent as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. At Panera, Maguire operated over 1,500 bakery cafes, producing in excess of $3.5B in annual systemwide sales. He also built over 700 new locations during his time as Panera’s COO.
“As a leader at Panera during their formative years of growth combined with his experience leading two loved brands, John brings the perfect mix of deep operating expertise combined with experience sustaining the culture required to build an iconic brand,” said Scott Svenson, co-founder and CEO of MOD. “Most importantly, though, John lives the values and beliefs at the heart of MOD. The thing which most attracted him was our commitment to using our business as a platform to make a positive impact on our people and the communities we serve. We could not be more thrilled to welcome him, and are confident that his track record of leading operations across large, multi-unit brands will allow us to further strengthen the MOD experience.”
Added Maguire, “I’m excited to join MOD at such a pivotal time in the company’s history and to be a part of a team that is committed to developing a best-in-class brand by staying true to its purpose-led culture that is truly unique in the fast casual dining industry.
