I hereby christen the Luminis account with the announcement for my upcoming collection, Balance and Ruin, inspired by Final Fantasy VI!

This collection has 5 new scents inspired by the game's characters:

Balance's Hope: Terra Branford A sweet, floral blend opening with light cucumber, clover fern, and a hint of pink peppercorn. Heart notes of freesia, rose, jasmine, hydrangea, and green vines lead into a soft base of violet, sandalwood, cashmere, and musk.

Dancing Mad: Kefka Palazzo This slightly chaotic and nearly aggressively sweet blend begins with rice powder, beeswax, and coconut. Candy apple, raspberry, currant, tulip, heliotrope, and rose follow, atop a base of vanilla bourbon, amber, cashmere, and tonka.

Treasure Hunter: Locke Cole Masculine with a sentimental streak, this scent starts with top notes of petitgrain and grapefruit, opening into a heart of clove, tobacco, golden amber, and gardenia. A smoky base of myrrh, smoked firewood, and musk finish the blend.

King of Figaro: Edgar Roni Figaro A dashing and charismatic aroma, with top notes of lemon zest and orange blossom leading into middle tones of cream, jasmine petals, and sandalwood. The base notes of leather amber woods, cashmere, and patchouli linger gently.

Suplex: Sabin Rene Figaro This deep, earthy scent starts with green tea, sweet basil, and peppermint at the top, followed by cinnamon, suede, whiskey barrel, thyme, and palm leaves-- all atop a base of amber, violet, marigold, and oakmoss.

Knight Gallant: Celes Chere Fresh and clean, this blend opens with ozone, bergamot, lemon, dewy greens, and mint, leading into heart notes of lavender, eucalyptus, green tea, and rose. A gentle base of amber, moss, violet, woods, and steel complete the blend.

All scents will be available in a 6 oz size, as well as in wax melt form for a flameless alternative.

Everything will be live on the Luminis website on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 12 pm Pacific time!

Opera Omnia Burst Themes 1/?

With Opera Omnia shutting down, I decided to make a few posts about one of my favorite parts of the game: The Burst Weapons. Not because they were a powerful, much sought after weapon tier that gave big numbers with massive benefits, but because I have a love for Final Fantasy music, and what BTs I wanted was strongly dependent on what song would play when used.

These posts are meant to be more for the sake of archiving what there had been more than anything else, but at the very least I am going to list a large number of great FF songs.

We know that the Magitek Research Facility incident is what's left of old material for Celes before she was elevated to prominent character status. So now in the game, it seems to come out of left field. What do you headcanon Kefka's basis for openly accusing Celes of being a spy being? (ie: is it fake, is it based off of an actual event, or something he knows of her past?).

I take it as kefka and his penchant for chaos and as a way of destabilising the team. I never really thought it came off left field because I do think it makes sense to plant the seed of doubt. kefka has a vested interest in destabilising a team that has come so far and in making them not trust celes. celes knows too much about the empire, even if she's not rushing to share it because her former loyalties are hard to shake off and kefka would rather they don't trust her, he'd rather that when/if she started spouting empire secrets everyone is a bit unsure and wondering if it's a trap cause it'll waste time for the returners and kefka needs as much borrowed time as he needs when he's so close to achieving his goals. also, having them trust celes would make it easier for them to put the pieces together and figure out what kefka himself wants, that is different from what the empire wants.

I also do think it adds to celes' character because her behaviour, her reluctance to let go of her former titles and allegiances is what makes kefka be able to plant the doubt. mind you though that if she was actually a spy it would be more useful to not accuse her of anything and just let her stay with the returners until they can kill the entire operation but kefka lives for the drama.

Things I have completed and posted:  SWTOR (AO3), DC Animated (Bruce Timm/Paul Dini productions from the 90s and early 2000s) (AO3 and FF.Net),  FF7 (FF.net), Doctor Who (FF.NET), House (frigging forgot about that one until I saw it in my files, yikes)

Things I have completed but not posted:  Star Trek

Things I have not completed nor posted:  Law and Order: SVU, West Wing, FF6, Highlander, Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes (ACD), the Mandalorian (now totally out of canon, thanks Luke), Tombstone, and Sin Takes a Holiday (a random Basil Rathbone 1930s film I latched onto like a leech for a few weeks and this mangled file is all that remains)

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Parthenos, In Theory, and The Slow Road from DCAU (Wonderbat ship), then The Grand Reveal (Rishi fic, my latest complete multi-chapter), A Shan Family Tradition (possibly canon Baby!Shan fic), and Who She is In the Dark (the first fic in the SWTOR series I have running.

Do you respond to comments; why or why not?

I don’t when I feel guilty because nothing is in the chute. (Hi, Slow Road people.  I know. That whole kerfuffle about Batman earlier this summer took the wind out of my sails because I didn’t want it to come off as a Bat Stan... because if you read the series, you know what’s happening soonish and now I’m waiting for that to die off.)

I absolutely do when I’m still writing and creating content (Hi, SWTOR people)

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I don’t like ending my fics on an angsty note.  I like hope at the end, if there is nothing else left. 

Do you write crossovers? If so, what’s the craziest one you’ve written?

When I was a young teenager, I plotted out an extensive FF6/FF7 crossover that paired Celes Chere and Vincent Valentine.  It never got written, but it was elaborately planned.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

No.  I have received.... comments?  Statements? that could have been constructive and could have started a dialogue, but then the commenter’s follow-up behavior indicated they were not being sincere; they weren’t actually worried about the issues they presented, but rather, they were trying to get a reaction out of me. (They went on another platform and made snide remarks.)

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I do write smut but it’s unpublished at the moment.  I fail utterly at writing PWP (so far), so I can’t just have them do the thing and leave it at that.  I think (hope?) I’ll be more comfortable publishing smut once I get to that point in my plotted Yavin fic. 

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I have had someone take my FF7 fic premise and poorly recycle it.  When I messaged them about it, I was then accused of stealing THEIR fic (somehow, in a time machine).

Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but I would be open to a collab with someone on a translation.

What’s your all time favorite ship?

In terms of what I write, there’s an ongoing thing of Relatively Orderly Guy/Relatively Chaotic Gal recurring.  

What are your writing strengths?

I can come up with an original plotline.  I do the research and I try to get things ‘right’ within a universe, so there are lots of details.  I have been told I can strike to the heart of a character’s dynamic with other people. 

What are your writing weaknesses?

I sometimes worry the details can be too overwhelming for people and they tune out.  I think I sometimes have too many ‘talking heads’ chapters where there’s lots of exposition -- too much tell, and not enough show.  Per spouse, I also get reaaaaally defensive about my writing (particularly professionally, but even in fan fic ), so I have to have a policy of letting the comment sit for a certain period of time before I attend to it.  The interim time is spent woe’ing and beating myself up.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Minus a few words that are sprinkled in (like how Mandalorian is used), I tend to just say they’re speaking in that language.  I do read a few languages, but dialogue is so much more informal and less stiff than the written word.  Also, it’s easier on the reader.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Star Trek.

What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?

I have affection for the pieces on the cutting room floor; things I cut out or have never published that sort of stay on the hard drive as a monument to the effort and also a little bit of a cheat when I need a scene for something else.  For example, parts of the casino scenes from The Cosmic Deck were cannibalized from the unfinished, now totally AU Mandalorian fic I have.  I’ve taken a bar scene from one fic and redone it as another universe’s party.

Frozen:  The Best Present

Okay, I typed out a little something for today.  There’s some angst and some fluff--which, I’m starting to figure out, is a good combination in the right proportions.

Why today?  Well, in my head, today is Daniel’s birthday.  So...without further ado:

    Elsa awoke to the dim light of her bedroom. That was odd, because it had been close to noon before—

    Her hands flew to her belly.  She could barely feel the lump, but it was there; her child.  At three months, there wasn’t much to show, but her pregnancy was definitely taking a toll.

    She smiled almost giddily.  She and Daniel had been married for a little over six months. Their baby would come along in another six months.  

    Truth be told, she wasn’t the only one in that situation.  Thanks to a delightful celebration on Anna’s birthday, Daniel’s parents had broken out a bottle of the most exquisite wine she’d ever tasted.  Anna and Rapunzel had enjoyed some as well.  It was a pity that they only had the single bottle of "Fruits D'Amour."

    The subsequent night had been gentle and natural, like breathing.  There was no pressure, just an easy playfulness.  The next morning had been free of any hangovers, but not, as they learned later, free of repercussions.

    A month later, the doctor had confirmed that both she and Anna were pregnant.  A week after that and Rapunzel announced her pregnancy as well.

    A quiet sigh caught her attention.  Looking up, she saw Daniel sitting in a chair by the bed.  The top of his head was somewhat spiky, a sure sign that he was stressed.  His expression, usually one of thoughtful amusement, was bleak.

    “Don’t do this to me,” he muttered under his breath. “Just don’t do this.  Enough is enough.”

    Elsa's face fell.  Today was supposed to be Daniel's big day.  It was his first birthday as her husband.  But for many years, his birthday was marred by sorrow.

    "Don't leave me," 13 year-old Daniel implored.  "You and me, remember?  What are big brothers for?"

    "S'okay," little Arthur slurred.  "You'll be okay, Danny.  You--you're gonna meet an--a nice queen.  Help her.  Promise me."

    "I promise," Daniel choked out.

    "Love you, Danny." Arthur breathed out.  Those were his last words.

    "Maddie, no," Daniel pleaded.  He was 19 now, almost a man--and right now, helpless as a child. "Please, don't."

    Madeleine managed a weak smile.  "Ah, ma chere," she breathed.  "I wish I could stay.  Promise me that someday, you will let yourself live again.  Let yourself live, love, and laugh again.  Promise me."

    "I promise, Maddie," he choked, holding her weak hand.  "I promise."

    "Bien," she nodded faintly.  "I love you."

    "I love you, too."

    She smiled and breathed her last.

    Of course, Daniel had looked bleak.  This was what he always feared.  This was why he had guarded his heart for years after that--especially on this day.

    It was time to move on.  It was time to start celebrating again.

    "Hey," she whispered, getting his attention. "I'm okay."

    That brought him out of his stupor.  He blinked and released a breath he hadn't realized he was holding.  He leaned over and hugged her.

    "Blimey, you gave everyone a fright," he said, worry etching his features.  "One moment, you're practically dancing in the square.  The next--"

    "I'm fine," she insisted.  "I just overdid it a little."

    He released his hug and looked her over. Then he arched an eyebrow.

    "You?  Overdoing it a little?  I can't imagine that at all," he deadpanned.

    SPLAT!  A conjured snowball smacked him from above.  With a grunt, he shook off the snow.

    "Now do you believe that I'm fine?" she asked mischievously.

    "I'm quite convinced."  His mood shifted as he sighed.  "I'm sorry, it's my fault."

    "No, it's my fault," she insisted. "I shouldn't have reminded you of...the past."

    "It's my baggage to bear," he reminded her.

    "Not alone," she corrected him, gently stroking her belly.  "Not anymore."

    He gently placed one hand on hers.  He was close to tears, but not sad ones.

    "You know that I don't need fancy presents," he told her.  "This--all of this--is more than I'd ever hoped for."

    "Same here," she returned quietly.

    They basked in the rare moment of peace.  Then he turned his attention to the door.

    "How long do you think we have before Olaf pops in?"

    "Olaf?" she asked.  "I'm betting on Anna."

    "I do not barge in!" Anna exclaimed from the other side of the door.  "Uh, I mean--"

    Knock knock-a-knock knock.

    Elsa rolled her eyes and sighed.  "Come in, Anna."

    Anna came in like a storm, rambling about how worried she was and how Elsa NEVER knew her limits and they should both be taking it easy.  She was followed by a very sheepish Kristoff and rounded off with Olaf carrying a tray of soup.

    He watched the scene grow wonderfully chaotic as Anna tried to boss Elsa around.  Olaf carefully balanced the tray and handed it off to Daniel--who then balanced it on the bed.  He smiled as Kristoff unsuccessfully tried to rein in Anna before their children would join the scene.

    Later on, when things settled down, they gave Daniel his presents.  He accepted them gratefully, but it was unnecessary.  He already had the best present of all.

The relationship between these two would be the most chaotic, insane fun. Cid would be constantly yelling at Jecht to hold the flashlight still while working under the hood of whatever creation he's fixing up in the garage while Jecht keeps a blitzball up in the air with his head, knees, feet, chest, etc. like a football player.

Alphinaud would be a calm, steadying influence on Noct, while Noct would teach Alphinaud the value of laying in bed playing games on their phones every now and again.

Raubahn would never let it show, but he'd be a right mess anytime Sania left on a research mission.

Elena <-> Dino Ghiranze

I picture Dino meeting Elena on the beach to show her his newest jeweled creation -- created just for her.

NC School Bus Crashes into Townhouse

A school bus driver in North Carolina has been cited for crashing into a townhouse, WSOCTV News reports (https://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/emergency-crews-respond-to-school-bus-crash-in-north-charlotte/926142185).

The accident happened in the early hours of February 28 in the City of Charlotte, North Carolina. 35-year-old Lashandra Chere Williams, the bus driver, has been cited for failing to maintain lane control. Surveillance camera footage shows that the bus driver sideswiped another car shortly before the accident, and then it ran right off of the road and hit the residential building. Debris from the building could be seen scattered along the road immediately following the collision.

After the accident, several schoolchildren who were on the bus at the time of the crash could be seen walking around. The scene was chaotic as frantic parents arrived to find their children and make sure they were okay.

Witnesses say the bus was going north on Statesville Avenue in the city when it looked like the driver lost control, veered into a car and then swerved right into the townhouse. Several people saw the emergency door to the rear of the bus open following the accident, and several children began coming out.

At this point, the police are not sure what caused this crash. Luckily, there were no major injuries as a result, according to the paramedics on site. Two students were evaluated at an area hospital at the request of the family.

Students on the bus at the time spoke with local journalists. They said that something happened with the other car involved, with both the car and bus striking each other and then the bus ending up hitting the building. The students panicked at first, fearing the bus would tip over, but they did evacuate safely. It happened so fast that the children are not entirely sure what caused the accident.

The area was closed off to traffic as police investigated, and the local fire department said the building was able to be stabilized to prevent collapse and further damage. Two residents and a pet were displaced from the townhouse as a result of the damage to it.

Officials with the school said that at the time, the bus had 15 children on it who were heading to Ransom Middle School. The students’ families were notified immediately after the crash, and arrangements were made to provide safe transport of those students to school or back home.

At this time, police say speed does not seem to be a factor in this crash. There is also no evidence that the bus or car driver were impaired at the time of the incident.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has since suspended the bus driver, but she will receive pay, which is standard procedure in cases such as this one. As the investigation continues, the bus driver may face more repercussions.

i havent written in a few days and feel very bad about it but im going to try again now.

our morning walk took us to danforth and logan so that i could visit moss and buy a card and a gift for lynda. in the pavillion with the fountain there were a lot of toys and candles left in memory of those affected by the shooting and i hadnt seen it before so it was pretty striking. when i went to moss, the plants in planters that i would have planned to get as a gift werent what i expected so i elected to get her a planter and put my own plant in it. i also decided to get this planter ive been eyeing a while that looks like a statue’s head. the cashier told me he liked my shirt and it caught me offguard but was v nice and i like the store a lot. 

we walked back home and passed this house w the most beautiful garden and dragos took pictures with it because they complemented his shirt. when we got home we hung out a little and then left to go to bulk barn and home depot. at bulk barn i had brought a few containers to fill and felt good about it, and one of the containers was just a tupperware and there werent any qualms about it so i think i wanna bring containers to bulk barn always.

at home depot, i was completely taken by the prayer plants they had and copped some variegated ones, for myself and jennifer, and also a red-veined maranta because i miss having one. it took me a while to choose my plants and i ended up spending over 40$ which i wasnt expecting at all. i met dragos at winners where he needed help deliberating over clothes and then we went home. at home we were abuzz w energy for putting things away and dragos asked what i was planning to wear to dani’s party tomorrow so i tried it on and dragos started trying on outfits for a while. eventually it was time for me to go to meet chere and calyssa but dragos brought up that i hadnt helped walk avon or helped with laundry and i felt really bad so i agreed to go w them to the park and then after the park i agreed to go to food basics and i ended up being like 30 late and i felt awful because im always late.

when i was cashing out at food basics though i had two packages of dragos’ tofurky deli meats and the cashier was this older black woman and she looked at the deli meats a while like she was really interested in them and she asked me “you veggie?” and i was like “oh, no, my partner is!” and she was like “ohh but not you?” and i was like “no!” and it was a sweet encounter. i realize now that i had two good encounters with cashiers and im big into that.

this games cafe struck me wrong at first maybe because it was such a sensory overload -- it was really loud and kind of chaotic compared to snakes and lattes -- but in hindsight it might be better than snakes and lattes in the way that weird incels who work there aren’t theatrically explaining games. and also because snakes and lattes have a history of racist treatment. 

after we played some games, we got hungry and decided to get some okonomiyaki from a place nearby but by the time we went, they were getting ready to close the kitchen and only accepted take out orders so we did that and we took our food to the food court in bloor yonge. 

when i got home, i ate a piece of salmon and we watched mad men.
