#SinfoniaToronto #practicechallenge continues... #Repost @marylovesclassical • • • • • • Day 2 of working on Wieniawski’s Scherzo Tarentelle. Usually I will record an excerpt of a piece multiple times and chose the one I like most to post. This time, I’m posting the first recording I made so I can identify any problems in my playing and fix them for the next time. My teacher isn’t the biggest fan of slow practice. She encourages me to practice the piece at its normal tempo. That way, I’ll be able to identify any problems and fix them right away. After watching the video, I can already say that my shifts in section B are very lazy. I was not engaging my whole arm. If I were to have practiced that slowly, I probably wouldn’t have noticed that. I also noticed some intonation issues at the beginning. Each triplet can be played as double stops so I’m first going to play them like that so I have the right hand frame and know where my fingers need to be. When I feel I’m ready, then I will play it how the piece calls for it to be played. I’ll probably post how I practice it on my stories later tonight. Also my upbow spiccato notes are not as powerful as the downbow so I’m going to spend some time on that. Day 161 of #100daysofpractice! This is definitely a contender for the #chloesprogresschallenge since this has always been a tricky spot for me and I'd really like to track its improvement over time. I'm also trying to continue with my plan to practice parts of old concertos each day to keep the repertoire more fresh in my hands and mind. I know I won't be able to keep up with it each and every day, but I'm going to try to do it as often as possible! ❤️ 🎻Brahms Violin Concerto: III. Today I am starting my #100daysofpractice journey! I’ve been wanting to do this challenge since Hilary Hahn began promoting it to the musical community on Instagram, however it wasn’t the right time for me to start back in May. But I knew I would get to it eventually! Here’s the beginning of Philip Glass’ Violin Concerto No. 2 - subtitled “American Four Seasons”. I’ve been playing around with different fingerings for this opening trying to figure out which ones best sound like the emotions I’m trying to convey. Also getting these grace notes to speak clearly is a challenge - and there are a lot of uncomfortably written double stops in this movement, so I’m trying to get them clear and in tune as well. I hope you’ll join me on the 100 days of practice journey as well as #chloesprogresschallenge which actually ties in very nicely with the 100 days. Remember the progress challenge is just about picking a particular section of your piece that you want to work on and recording and posting it regularly to hear your progress!
